    Vaseline works great! It helps restore the flexibility of the gasket, until you can order one for a replacement 😉

    Steve that’s the only toilet on planet you can modify to have a 3 gal flush
    The black slide gets a slightly different white one good supply houses offer and bye bye 1.6 gallon loser flush
    Keep the main line with more of a flush

    It's got to be a bit more difficult explaining and showing elderly people what works and how it works. I know, I work amongst them in an elderly 122 unit facility. God bless them but there are times they can't comprehend what you intent to do, and it seems you can never work alone, they are right there next to you seeing what you are doing, lol. Good patience you showed there Steve. Keep the video's coming.....

    Two toilets that were in our house had this flush valve. They always were hard to flush or leaked, sometimes both. I changed them out to the flapper style after screwing with those for a couple of years.

    Good morning Steve, nice fix, what I try doing on those pesky leaking bonnet nuts is first loosen it up a tad before tightening it backup ,it seems to make it tighten up and stop the dripping a bit easier.

    I've been replacing these flush valves in my house and shop about every 2 or 3 years. This latest bout the toilet continues to run no matter what. So I'm thinking I'll just convert to a flapper style. The black rubber seal beneath the red seal I'm beginning to think may be causing the issue.

    I couldn`t figure out what she was talking about with the water not going down. Maybe she just closed the drain while showering and the water built-up, and then interfered with the vent pipe, forming a temporary vacuum when she tried to drain it?

    • @dock_yard1149
      @dock_yard1149 3 роки тому +1

      Seems to me the 2 of you weren’t really listening to each other.
      I’d have drawn a shallow tub-full 3-4” of HOT water to pre-test whatever she was complaining about.
      Personally just running shower water down for 3 minutes isn’t gonna test drainage capacity much.
      Gotta empty a small tub full of standing warm-hot water and see what customer actually means.
      She wasn’t clear, but she gets a pass being elderly, not hearing well, fumbling for best words. My 92 yo Mom is same way.
      Steve also explains things in terms that non-toolie customers don’t really grasp.
      I’ll give him a pass too, it’s the way he is, but I hear how he explains things to customers in most vids, and it’s too much plumber jargon and spoken too quickly to them.
      Just my reactions to what I saw and heard here.

      @@throttlebottle5906 My home is so old that the tub STILL requires a stopper. But I am so old that I now shower, only. Last time I tried to get in the tub, I could barely get OUT!

      @craigharding475 3 роки тому

      @@dock_yard1149 I don`t doubt what you say, here, but I don`t grasp what the major difference is between 3/4" of standing water and a running shower other than an air-lock potential. I am probably not nearly as experienced as you--is likely why.

    I have a Mansfield downstairs. Have to change that gasket about every two years. The fill valve every 3 to 4 years. Last weekend had to change the angle stop also because it wouldn't stop dripping even after tightening the packing. Pretty easy work, but draining down the water system for the whole house is a bit of a pain.
