I respect the work this young family put in to correct the wrongs in their relationship. It's a mistake because he was drunk and not in full control of his faculties. It keeps being left out that she spit in his face before getting on the elevator and she was the aggressor. In the heat of the moment it's not easy to turn instincts off she rushed him and he hit her. The whole situation should have never happened but don't leave her part out. If he is so abusive why did she try to hit him first? Wouldn't she know an abuser would beat her for what she did? She attacked him because she didn't think he was going to hit her back.

    FlemLo's explanation of what happened on the elevator left out a very important part, which is that when Ray walked on the elevator, he SPIT in her face and that is why she rushed toward him. That was actually the second time he spit on her with the first time being as she walked past him to get on the elevator. Also, literally NOBODY I know believed their media press run trying to explain the incident. It all felt fake and contrived. They did a horrible job trying to convince everyone that this was their first physical altercation. They literally wanted everyone to believe that they argued incessantly behind closed doors, but no punches were thrown, but yet this behavior happens after some drinks in public.

      I’ve never understood the appeal of S.V.U., to be honest; their episodes have always struck me as watered-down, more exploitative variations of the original (superior) show’s procedural formula, with most of its faults and precious few of its strengths-up to and including its unfortunate tendency to play on people’s ignorance and prejudices towards major stories/incidents outside of what they hear or read in passing, often for the sake of cheap drama, ratings, and seasonal renewals to keep Dick Wolf solvent. :P
      If something like this WAS gonna be adapted for television in a police format, I feel like something more morally gray and complicated like “Hill Street Blues,” “Homicide: Life On The Street,” or “The Shield” would have been better suited to handle something like this. :/

    • @clevelandbci9562
      @clevelandbci9562 3 роки тому +5

      @@christmashake8968 I still watch it cuz I'm 22 years in, but I could not agree MORE with that analysis. As mentioned above, the writers (Especially the last few years) have become too reliant on sensationalism. As my late dad told me as a kid, saying something is based on a true story/actual events is usually "a lie in disguise." People have been killed in the woods, but that doesn't make the Friday the 13th movies true stories. The Ray Rice episode did have a similar storyline (Football player KO'd wife on elevator camera), but the writers made the guy a monster to fit the narrative.
      A great Hollywood example is the "true story" boxing movie Cinderella Man. It's a GREAT movie about a former boxer who rose from extreme poverty during the Great Depression to the heavyweight title. The movie showed his opponent (Max Baer) as a heartless guy who cracked jokes about a guy he'd previously killed in the ring. The real-life Max was devastated after the fight, and even went on to help his family and pay for his childrens' educations. That didn't fit the narrative of good vs evil, though.
      I wish SVU would stop with the headline crap, or at least get it right if they continue. And I watched Hill Street Blues with my dad. THAT was a great show.

The only way you can possibly be like that is if you see no positive in anyone.

    Excellent piece on Ray Rice. As a Ravens fan, I was devastated when this happened. I'm glad that he got help, and they stayed together. It's good to hear him on local Baltimore sports talk radio shows. Glad I found your channel. Just subscribed. I know this story well, and you got it right.

    His reaction 2 her being knocked out is what made ppl want 2 see what happened before that. I respect that you try to see another perspective on situations like this. However, I don’t believe this is a equatable to a “dark time in any young couples life “. If my wife and I are going through a hard time, we might have a separation or a verbal altercation but I will not strike her to the point of unconsciousness.
