- Welcome to Wonderhussy Adventure #514
Date of Adventure: 3/1/21
A strange guy wanted to show me something out in the desert...and it turned out to be this super cool home-built truck camper made entirely of wood! Even crazier, he used cedar fence posts for most of it! The craftsmanship of this camper is amazing -- it's super cozy, well-insulated, and relatively lightweight. Check it out!

I like this Dude. The world needs more like him. Thanks Wonderhussy
Definitely a cool guy
Rad dad for sure.
I know him, he is one of a kind, oustanding.
He could have one hellof a business. I'll bet he gets alot of inquiries after this.
This Certainly is The absolute best “End Game” for incentives to move forward.
I know and work with Dave. He is a genuine person and a true friend. What you see is what you get. No gimmicks. He is also great at making stuff from leather. ENDGAME
#1 The basic value for time spent = ineffective
#2 The blue print value = very effective
#3 The thought = priceless
I hope his kids know what a great father they have.
This was not just another video, but an epic document depicting a man’s love for his family, our planet, and the time honored craft of wood working 😀
Kolo has the same problem as 55t ti
It takes me a motivational supernova to mow the freaking lawn. This guy builds a cathedral out of wood and acts like, ..no big deal........
What a solid guy! Thanks WH! You are uplifting to many.
If this video were any more wholesome it would be a 35min zoomed in shot of Quaker Oatmeal.
The design and details are amazing. As an old woodworker I really appreciated this guy
A good father is the best thing in the world👨👧👦
Nice rig Dave, that's a very cool camper and built way better than any rv manufacturer out there
He is a very nice man who is very proud of his homemade RV.
Dave did a fantastic job on this truck camper and Dave is also an awesome dad !
Hooray Wonderhussy :)
Endgame is the bomb. We are
building a flatbed camper based on his camper builds
I feel like a bum now. This guy spent the lockdown building an amazing camper.
All I did was watch Sarah explore the West.
Now that I think about it, I didn’t waste my time. I just invested it in another pleasant hobby!
Yeah and I watched way too much Netflix.
This dude is a genius....Look ..the truck bed is not even sagging...this awesome man .....THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO WONDER HUSSY
Dude’s got mad skills. Impressive craftsmanship.✊
What incredible Craftsmanship!!! WOW.........cool. Those walls are like the recording studio down the street has all over in it except a lot thicker sound foam then fabric stretched over it and it looks cool too boot like this camper does! A real cool dude with a vintage soul he is
Interesting that you say craftsmanship, perhaps he’s a mason, if the door is an indication.
@@mirelleinisrael Yeah I caught the design on the door also.. Could be a Mason, could just be structural support for the door also..
@@mirelleinisrael I seen that too and thought wow!!!! I pray not but one never knows really. I LOVE Israel ! But, that is very good craftsmanship tho!
I guess I am dense. What’s the issue of being a Mason?
A mason....is ajar? (When the door is open?) (hahaha) (let us know when you find out about the deal w mason.)
What a great pickup camper and a beautiful example of cabinetmaking. I used to own a company building slide-in campers for pickups back in the 1970s and he did some great design work. Thanks for sending me on a trip back in time. You're such a doll anyway.
WOW, that brings back old memories. When I was a little kid my dad built a camper and I remember helping him. I was probably about 5 or 6 years old, he would put some glue on a piece of wood and hand it to me and guide me to where it would go. I thought I was a big help at the time but probably more of a nuisance to deal with! But we got that father and son time together. I have done some really nice van conversions to go camping over the years, which all came from the skills learned when building that camper. His kids will remember building the campers all their lives. Thanks for sharing and bringing back great memories from about 60 years ago. Take care and God bless! David
Huell Howser would have been so proud of you!
That was an awsome build by Dave. It showed true craftsmanship. And a love of the build.
Such an incredible build! Simplicity combined with everything serving multiple purposes. I bet he could sell those for $40k.
Dave's build was awesome, way nicer than you could buy. Glad you went to visit with him. You are definitely living your best life Sarah!!!! 🤘😎
Girl, you meet some of the most interesting people. Another great Wonder hussy video in a direction we never saw coming. You are a most interesting lady. Keep on keeping on !!
Awesome interview and final product this smart guy built! He should be so proud of his craftsmanship.
Just watched this. So impressed with how much thought he put into this.
That dude Dave is a top man and carries the news!-let’s have some more off roading stuff Sarah.....🇬🇧👠
I like the engineering aspect and design he employed to achieve a quality and ergonomic yet affordable camper.
He’s a finisher. I’ve known a few carpenters, but this is above and beyond.
More often than not, wood truck campers have been either heavy or top-heavy, making them a real handful
on twisty, mountain roads. This one is a rare exception; well thought out and constructed!
Great interview and storyline, hussy; neat to have the family involved......
This guy is really smart and he has excellent verbal skills. He explains everything so you can understsnd.
Last scene, i spy, amongst all the amazing creativity of design gems, the Square and compass , cleverly hidden in plane sight on front door. Loved his description of the layers of meaning , bonding with his children...Thank you wonderhussey and thank you dave.
What a good guy. He should be incredibly proud!
That was a masterpiece!
You did well to interact with a self-directed individual who uses his skills to accomplish personal goals which included his children in the process. There are women out there who do the same as well.
Thanks Sarah! Dave is what we need more of. Spend time with your family and make memories instead of high scores on a game. Great job Bro!! 👍🇺🇲
What a wonderful interview/visit with clearly a smart dude dedicated to his kids and the building process nice job oh Wonderhussy!
Dads are important 💪😎👍
This man is on to something..low cost, easy traveling for two. Very clever..
Everything about this guy is solid >< down to the wristband of his watch
I would bet he made it too
Saud he did leather work
@@jamesclark9347 Even more amazing ! >< Thanks
One of the reasons I follow YT “Truck House Life” is that homebuilt Alaskan Wood Camper 👍🏽
Dave gets it......he gets the little part of life most people just rush right by and miss completely.........good on ya Dave.
Dave sure built a nice rig. Great video showing one man's ingenuity to solve the issues surrounding the design and construction of a compact camper. Great workmanship Dave!
Thanks for this Sarah. What a camper!! What a craftsman...
"Who knows, maybe in 10 years, they might have an electric truck." The 2021 Hybrid F-150 with the Pro Power 7.2 KW system is exactly what he's talking about. This is what I want so I can do these types of adventures the right way. Until then, I'm throwing a cot in the back of my current truck with a bunch of bins and carrying a portable battery to power what I need to.
So much love in this build. It's very inspirational.
Very cool!! Oh I bet he’s a mason too hehe. No conspiracy to the door I’m sure. I wish I had his skills what a nice project 😎
I honestly held off on watching this, but I ended up watching the entire video. Love home-built ingenuity.
Dave created an amazing truck camper, thanks for sharing your find. One other thought Wonderhussy, you finally found someone that can outtalk you, you were kind of quiet during the video. 😄😄
Taking over where Huell Howser left off: Visiting with Wonderhussy! That was very enjoyable!
Yes! Haha you're so right☺ I love it! Awe, rest in peace Huell..
I was just about to make the same comment
Wow! Cool Huell Howser reference.
When the truck wears out or replaced, the camper gets moved. Build out a van and when it wears out you have to build out the new one. Solid PRO for having a truck camper. Plus it can be removed and doesn't require a tag... at least in FL. This is so cool seeing this and sharing this. I too am still enamored with the CasualTurtle builds. I like the wood, who wouldn't, but I like the shape of the roof. I am going to build one of these.
I watched this dude's walk through on his channel a week or so ago. I am happy to see other cool youtubers showing off his stuff, as he really did make something remarkable with this. The 800 lb dry weight is exceptional, and the 2-4 inches of foam insulation along with the window shutters is so good it's well beyond normal utility. That it only cost 2 grand, when the battery and solar system alone probably cost 1500+ is really amazing.
If there is ever a societal collapse or zombie apocalypse, anyone around this guy will probably make it through it, as he is beyond just merely resourceful and innovative.
Great build. Cool father. Informative interview. Thank you for this presentation.
Dave's got skills, nice camper. Excellent interview.
This guy did a great job on his camper.
Very well done. American ingenuity at its best. He’s created an heirloom for sure.
That camper is fantastic! Love watching people building things from scratch.
My father being a woodworker. I know the amount of time, skill and patience that went into this build. Absolutely beautiful. I can't wait to show my Dad. He has 2 trucks.. My mom better watch out.. might be a future project! Great build Dave. Thanks for sharing it with us WH.
This man is a wise and special person. I found myself wishing that WonderHussy would just let him talk and Share without feeling the need to add her opinions and interjections. She interrupted him rather consistently. He’s a gem.
I actually like her journalistic inquisitive nature, and think it helped tell his story and added that “woman’s perspective” that not only showcased his great talent , but her abilities as well ….. without her , this story doesn’t get told , or noticed !!!
Really enjoyed the video. The world needs more folks like Wonderhussy and Dave. Thanks so much.
Nice build, well thought out.
Boy, his craftsmanship is outstanding. I can see why it took 500 hours (which is about 10 weeks at 8 hrs. per day). I really learned a lot about what to ask about when I get my rig, which will probably be a 30 foot RV. I didn't know to ask about the floor insulation, but you're right the air could come right up through the floor. I want about a foot of insulation in mine since I want to be warm and toasty in the winter and cool and comfortable in the summer. I think the most insulation I've seen in my shopping is about 5 inches. Great episode.
I am glad she let him really explain the construction of this thing. to many that is probably not that interesting but to me it was super cool to hear about.
Somehow you both are kindred souls
Thank you to Dave & you for making this video of the camper he built. Wishing him & his family many happy trips in it.
Dave is the MAN! What a great camper and father.
Wow. This guy is BRILLIANT!
That guy knows his stuff!!! He is the kind of man to have as your neighbor!!! Take Care and Stay Safe Wonderhussy!!!!
I like how he designed the Masonic Symbol into his build
Another awesome experience with you.Dave rocks.
Dave is top notch and a great guy sharing his ideas openly. The fact that he included his son and daughter, they will remember this all their lives. Imagine as they get older and having to talk about a topic for a classroom project. How many people are going to talk about building a camper. It's a fascinating story. Thanks Sarah! Big Hugs my Dear.
You are a lovely interviewer.
In my mind, this fellow is always what made (and makes) that country great. True spirit, he doesn't wait till someone builds it, he simply does it himself and does it right.
You might want to talk to this guy about some mods for your Pathfinder. He seems really creative and skilled.
I think she has a Toyota 4Runner.
Dang gone it Hussy! stop talking over the guy while he's talking. Awesome build by that guy though. P.S. love the channel.
Yes. Jesus. I has to mute the video. She talk too much.
Yes, annoying as hell
Fine example of passionate craftsmanship Wonderhussy. You meet some very interesting people in your travels.
"Meet me in the Desert and I'll show you my woody"
Nice camper !
Sounds like a title for a porn movie
Oh hell, If your on the phone with that guy for three minutes you'll know it's all cool.
A wonderful "home crafted" camper! Thanks Sarah and Dave!
I don’t comment often but his camper is pretty nice, thanks Wonderhussy.
Dave's a good American man...god bless.
Wow this guy is super talented. Camper looks terrific.
Amazing craftsmanship! I now completely understand the 500 hours of construction.
That was, actually, a pretty darn nice camper for a homemade deal.
ACTUALLY BETTER THAN COMMERCIAL.
He did a fantastic job with this camper 👍👍👍👍👍
Im in building have all the knowledge. However I really admired him, because how could someone not involved as much as we are, has so much knowledge. Research and passion.....
Wonderhussy amazes us once again! She attracts the curious and unique! This guy is truly talented and should patent this design and/or go into production. This little “truck cabin” is beautiful!
Awesome camper. It’s well made and I really love the wood! It’s so unique.👍
He should put out plans so others could built it, even sell them for 20 bucks
I so enjoyed this vlog. Thank you so much for this!
so many very clever ideas in this build. I especially love the faucet, I have had such bad luck with integrated water pumps, they always break , that one he has and how he adapted it to his own specific use is genius
Sweat cheeks - you bring out the BEST in all of us.
I was just also going to mention, the window Door is cool, to close it up,👍
Dave, you did a fantastic job designing and building that camper. It was great the kids got involved.
He’s definitely a professional engineer of some type and if he’s not wow I’m truly IMPRESSED
That was my thought too. A lot of details which were well planned out.
One detail at a time can be very instrumental in designs ,in any one projects ,brings better clarity to engineering, no computer can touch, certain practicalities , as he stated his approach to designing on a different level , truly awesome in simplicities ,🤙✌️👍❄️😊
I could listen to Dave all day long, interesting, and a great build. 👍
Dave’s a good dude!
This was super interesting. I'd love to see more interviews with your creative followers!
Sarah you've brought us another winner of a video. Dave is a very interesting person. What a great camper. He should copyright the plans and sell them.
Dave has a beautiful mind.
Excellent. I wonder if he could license the design to a high-end RV builder -- like Lazy Daze -- and whether they could sell a new 4WD truck plus Dave's camper for $100,000... able to make a normal profit, with royalties for the designer. He makes a VERY good case for a standard-size truck camper that can go from truck to truck, and will last to pass along to a younger generation.
And another fascinating video. Definitely a successor to Huell Howser! What an amazing world, able to watch these shows on my iPad anywhere. Thanks so much, from Jon in Tombstone Arizona!
