What I learned at 1:47 into this video: "We don't swing up this way (motioning through to the target) for the angle of attack to be positive ... so high launch. We swing with the clubhead level up that way (motioning through and up)." In all my years it has never occurred to me to think of it like that. Brilliant!
Took this to the range yesterday. Hit 10 drives Crushed 8 of them and 6 of those in the fairway. Took it to the course this morning and shot 36/43 for an easy 79. My playing partner said send me that video. Thank you Steve!
Hi Steve, Took this to the range today and WOW! All I can say is where has this lesson been all my life. I'm a senior golfer and this just clicked for me, a big Thank You! I'm playing in my weekly league tomorrow so we'll see if I can take this to the course, wish me luck!
Hi Steve! Absolutely brilliant! Was struggling with my driver as of late and came across your video and eureka open stance golf swing...applied what you teach at the range and was smashing drivers 230+ yds. I'm 65 by the way. So I've subscribed and added your playlists to my favorites! Thank you so much...great practice plan too. And I remember the very important rule...ball on tee😄
Steve, I was the random guy that said hi to you at the Braids driving range tonight! Bizarrely I was actually there trying out this 4 point driving routine and while I didn’t quite hit the bombs you did in the video the results were really encouraging! Really enjoying the quality and content of your channel. Thanks John
Steve you’ve changed my game mate. I’m down to 7 now from 11. Crushing my irons. One tip you gave previously was posture/set up. Huge changes for me. It’s incredible how much consistency I’ve got. Amazing
EXCELLENT video!! Thank you!! I worked on these four (4) tips at the driving range last night and hit my driver great! More work to do but really looking forward to my Saturday match.
Do you know what Steve, I reckon that’s the best video I have watched. I really like Alex Elliot but I think you are on a par. Brilliant, keep it going.
Hey Steve I really appreciate everything you teaching with the game you are very intelligent I love the way you teach you help somebody like myself who needs it and leave and turns really that's my main go at the moment is to limit my movements in my swing making it simpler anyhow thank you so much you're the man named John Thompson look forward to hearing from you
Very good instructions. I don’t know what it is but once a year I have a complete driver meltdown. I’m slicing like crazy and by the looks of my driver swing alone you would think it was my first time. Crazy game and Steve is making it a little easier haha
I’ve taken a handful of lessons to learn to drive. This video tied it all together for me. I was hammering them on the range! Can’t wait to get on the course with this. Thank you Steve!
That'll do me for today. I'll put that tip to use on the course this afternoon. I'll let you know how I get on! Also I'm really excited about the new Wilson wedges, need to get hold of one to see if they are for me
Hi Steve tried this drill yesterday wow what a difference especially getting the right shoulder down which I wasn't doing far down enough so now use the hand by the knee drill - fab coaching Steve thanks
Hi Steve, great lesson mate! Loved the simplicity of the 4 steps to a perfect driver set up! I tried this today on the range and could not believe how long high and straight I was hitting it!!!!!!!!!!!! Come to Australia mate I owe you a few beers you're a bloody legend digger hehe :)
Brilliant stuff Steve - thanks. When it's flush 70% of the time lovely baby draw I am sometimes just struggling not to slice though and when that happens it's baaaaad
I suffer from a big slice.. saw this video yesterday and took this to the sim today.. WOW! I’ve never hit it so straight and consistent. I appreciate you! I’m really hoping you have a video for iron setup and wedge setup as well! If not 🙏🏼
Tried this yesterday first time in a winter comp without taking it the range due to a 8am start.. Only missed 2 fairways bombed all the others. Best tip ever 4 steps magic. Do you have a similar drill for Irons? Thanks a million top coach Steve
Thanks Steve, your instructions took me from a consistent 12 handicapper to 8 three years ago. So much so that I keep trying something new. Anyway I have strayed from your true path and now am playing off 11: Jim Venetos has captured my fancy- and fancy it is, but so hard to do in my mind. . Golf is strange! This video has me returning to the fold, got within two of shooting my age a fortnight ago.
Fabulous instructions and I love how you continually reinforce the steps! Great teacher 😊. Can you point me to a video to stop slicing. I am a female Aussie golfer but slice a lot 😢
Hi Steve, thank you for the 4 point set up check list for Driver. Very innovative. Keepinf it simple. The Right hand touching the kneee stance feels abit uncomfortable stance. But I will work on it..:-)
Used this today on the course, not ideal conditions, but had greater consistency with shape, high draw and increase in average distance off the tee of 14 yds. Longest drive 267 yds, very little roll out. Very simple but so effective, thanks
Hi there my name is Paul about 3 months back I bought the MAVRIK SUB ZERO 9° I am a mid handicap but found with this AJUSTABLE driver 9° in summer is great but now its winter 11°works best . paul
Great video. I have for the last 2 weeks struggled with good contact as I am topping everything from wedge to driver. I don't hit the ball very far but usually it's 200 to 210 with driver so I will try this to stop hitting it off the bottom edge of my club.Thank you for this lesson!!
OK Steve. Do a video on hitting drive rut of the toe please. I've started doing this since you cleaned up my irons swing. I think its the right elbow but...I just don't know. This part request, part challenge.
I've been struggling with the driver for a long time (consistency). I tried these tips and they feel really good - create really solid strikes. I'm going to keep at it and see if this can help long term.
I took this to the range amd saw a dramatic improvement in consistency. But…, your shots end up with a nice draw and almost all of my shots end up in a fade. Can you elaborate a little bit more about your grip, the alignment to your target and what you do with your wrists in the takeaway and downswing amd do you snap your wrists before impact? Thanks for the excellent video!!
I understand the concept of a flared lead foot to facilitate opening up at impact. However (based on ground force data) too much flare can significantly reduce the ability to push up vertically (post up) off your lead foot, thereby reducing that force to generate club head speed.
As someone who has lumbar disc and stenosis issues from American football and rugby, I avoid adding extra secondary axis tilt at address. My trail hand being lower on the grip accomplishes some tilt automatically/naturally. If I want to add more positive attack angle, I just widen my stance a little bit more than standard. As I continue to strengthen my core, lower back and legs, I may be able to add some extra tilt again. In the meantime, I've been happy with the 275-290 drives I'm able to produce, depending on environmental conditions and strike!
Well that average driving distance puts you in the top few % of amateurs (average drive for a scratch golfer is just 260 yds according to ShotScope), so I’m not surprised you are happy with it.
Steve - are you 50/50 weight at set up or are you favoring a little more weight on your lead side? I know you favor more weight on that side for your irons/eureka swing so didn't know if you were doing it here.
We can remember 6 things if you want to add things from previous videos. It really was helpful setting up with ball on toe of club and having the club starting 18 inches behind ball
Been using this this week since watching the video. Got my confidence back with the driver and actually hit a 307 yard drive today at our Thursday night league. Not bad for a guy @ 50 yrs of age.
Maybe a third of my drives hit the fairway, so I am going to take your lesson and tips to see if I can hit more fairways. Good day to you Steve. By the way, you are one of my favorite instructors.
I am a lefty too. I feel like this tip dropped me a bit too much. But, putting my left hand on the side of my leg (but above the knee) and then come in from the side like he demonstrates (keeping my lead shoulder more in compared to my trail shoulder) seemed to do the trick.
Great setup. I would add a midsize or jumbo grip, tackiest you can tolerate, the stiffest, lightest shaft that doesn't get you wild misses and the lowest spin head that doesn't get hurt your total distance. Recipe for bombs. 😎
Great lesson. Love the way you repeat the moves! 👏👏😍Thank you!
What I learned at 1:47 into this video: "We don't swing up this way (motioning through to the target) for the angle of attack to be positive ... so high launch. Nice👍👍

Hit 10 drives

Thank you Steve!
Brilliantly clear Steve - As Always! Thanks.
I tried this on the course today, it’s the best I’ve been with my driver in years, thank you so much 👍
Glad you enjoy it!
I tried this yesterday and picked up another 20yards haven't swung the driver that well in ages. Thanks 👍👍
Well done Craig👏🏻👏🏻
Love the simplicity of your tips 👍
These lessens are brilliant!
Hi Steve, Took this to the range today and WOW! All I can say is where has this lesson been all my life. I'm a senior golfer and this just clicked for me, a big Thank You! I'm playing in my weekly league tomorrow so we'll see if I can take this to the course, wish me luck!
Thank you Steve my Driver worked really we'll today using the 4 moves straightest I've ever hit it

I now watch this video every time on my way to the course !! Thank you.
🙏🏻 thanks Cam

Great job!
I discovered you recently, I like your repetitive style and casual attitude, thanks! You are valuable to the training world!
Another great lesson !I love the way you repeat the steps it sinks in much quicker! 😍👏
First class instructor and funny 🇮🇪👍
Do you know what Steve, I reckon that’s the best video I have watched. I really like Alex Elliot but I think you are on a par. Brilliant, keep it going.
Thanks👍👍
Steve! This was one of your best as far as instruction and illustration! Good Job!! Keep up the good work!!
Hey Steve I really appreciate everything you teaching with the game you are very intelligent I love the way you teach you help somebody like myself who needs it and leave and turns really that's my main go at the moment is to limit my movements in my swing making it simpler anyhow thank you so much you're the man named John Thompson look forward to hearing from you
Great video, Tried this today and couldn't believe how well it worked for me. Keep up the great work.
Very good instructions. I don’t know what it is but once a year I have a complete driver meltdown. I’m slicing like crazy and by the looks of my driver swing alone you would think it was my first time. Crazy game and Steve is making it a little easier haha
You can do it!
I love this. Excellent checklist! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
I’ve taken a handful of lessons to learn to drive. This video tied it all together for me. I was hammering them on the range! Can’t wait to get on the course with this. Thank you Steve!
Awesome driver video - 1 2 3 4 and let it go. Thanks Steve.
That'll do me for today. I'll put that tip to use on the course this afternoon. I'll let you know how I get on! Also I'm really excited about the new Wilson wedges, need to get hold of one to see if they are for me

Great video Steve , just what I need . Have you any past videos on how to square the club face ?
I suffer from a big slice.. saw this video yesterday and took this to the sim today.. WOW!
I’ve never hit it so straight and consistent. I appreciate you!
I’m really hoping you have a video for iron setup and wedge setup as well! If not 🙏🏼
We’ll done👍👍

Nice work!

Just been to the driving range to try this, excellent results. so excited to put it in place on the course.
Shakes head in appreciation of how Steve makes it look so simple . .
Great set up lesson. That course looks incredible 👍
Excellent vid. Thanks Steve!
Steve, great video. What’s your weight distribution with your feet during your Driver setup? 60%-40% on front?
Love the vids brother
Fabulous instructions and I love how you continually reinforce the steps! Great teacher 😊. Can you point me to a video to stop slicing. I am a female Aussie golfer but slice a lot 😢
Hi Steve, thank you for the 4 point set up check list for Driver. Very innovative. Keepinf it simple.
The Right hand touching the kneee stance feels abit uncomfortable stance.
But I will work on it..:-)
Thank you Steve for your explanation it's working for me.

Great instruction, as usual. Could you tell me What is your weight distribution at address?
Head behind club head. Gold! Really helped in my round yesterday. 💯
Driver journey, I will try this, thank you
Thanks for sharing. In this video, it appears that you follow closed stance. So, not a Eureka set-up?
great instruction video stevie, will try it out tomorrow.
Excellent lesson kept super simple.👍👍
Simple and effective Steve.
gem of a video. excellent.
Sir you are a genius!
I’m not really
Definitely will be trying this setup. Thanks.
Belt loop is new to me, thanks!
Brilliant stevie 👏
Cheers

Wouldn’t it be beneficial to just lowering the loft on driver? Pros and Cons to that idea?
Can't wait to try this....looks like a steady setup and a great way to be consistent 🙌 👌
I've been struggling with the driver for a long time (consistency). I tried these tips and they feel really good - create really solid strikes. I'm going to keep at it and see if this can help long term.
What happened to the Eureka setup? Feet amid left, shoulders square and swing right?
I took this to the range amd saw a dramatic improvement in consistency. But…, your shots end up with a nice draw and almost all of my shots end up in a fade. Can you elaborate a little bit more about your grip, the alignment to your target and what you do with your wrists in the takeaway and downswing amd do you snap your wrists before impact? Like legendary player Bow Normam drives same brilliant method for driver thank you
Splay loop step Knee boom got it
Excellent
When you go onto the course to feel out these 4 things and the many thoughts running through your head include "troosers". Lol. Good video.
Mr SJ, which hand do you hit the ball with? I’ve watched a few golf coaches and no one ever talked about this point!
Pull with the left and push with the right. I’ll do a video on that soon!!
Simple superb advice , thanks
I understand the concept of a flared lead foot to facilitate opening up at impact. However (based on ground force data) too much flare can significantly reduce the ability to push up vertically (post up) off your lead foot, thereby reducing that force to generate club head speed.
Great lesson Steve, tried this on the range this morning. I normally slice a lot of my drives but every hit today was a baby draw with distance.
Is this the eureka stance?
As someone who has lumbar disc and stenosis issues from American football and rugby, I avoid adding extra secondary axis tilt at address. My trail hand being lower on the grip accomplishes some tilt automatically/naturally. If I want to add more positive attack angle, I just widen my stance a little bit more than standard. Fabulous 👌 tip! Thanks Pro
Mind blown!!🤯
Are you using eureka setup
Will try this tomorrow 💣
Tried these 4 moves and certainly worked , launching the ball higher so may take the loft on the driver down a wee bit 👏👏👏
Steve - are you 50/50 weight at set up or are you favoring a little more weight on your lead side? I know you favor more weight on that side for your irons/eureka swing so didn't know if you were doing it here.
It would be helpful to see the distance, ball speed, Aoa, etc. to have a sense of how effective the technique is.
Thanks Steve!
SHMOKE IT, BUST IT awesome 👍👍😎
We can remember 6 things if you want to add things from previous videos. It really was helpful setting up with ball on toe of club and having the club starting 18 inches behind ball

i've seen other videos saying to flare the left foot out like this, but that isn't working for me as much
Flare both feet
@@stevejohnstongolf ah ok, i'll give that a shot
I am on Eureka, but I can't see here your eureka open stand - why?
Yes eureka although camera angle is not directly down the line so it distorts it🤷♂️
Thanks Steve When I drop my Left shoulder (left Handed) I seem to hit a low hook ?
I am a lefty too. I feel like this tip dropped me a bit too much. But, putting my left hand on the side of my leg (but above the knee) and then come in from the side like he demonstrates (keeping my lead shoulder more in compared to my trail shoulder) seemed to do the trick.

People… don’t be fooled by the “ let’s talk “ reply to your comments. It’s not Steve !
I am not sure I understand the path of club .please show the path of driver in slow motion after the impact.
So you’re still keeping your weight starting at 50/50, not shifting to your right foot on backswing, and ending 5/95 on left side, correct?
How long the carry, Steve?
Good Stuff.
Steve, you had advised a technique of moving hands back early to start backswing. This tip doesn’t suggest the early movement
People don't realise that this information is what your golf pro will teach you if you go for a lesson
turn your hand over down the line at impact
Most miss the back foot, it’s a huge help
So the head could be said to be rising rather than hit up
Carlos if you ever over there buy a lesson - he can’t buy his ain pint😅
