I like how they managed to beat the uncanny valley feeling by making it clear that it's an animation but also exploiting that to its fullest extent by the realism
I’m surprised that literally no one is mentioning how they managed to de-age Idris Elba so shockingly well. Watch any of his earliest films or look up pictures of him from ten, twenty years ago and this is EXACTLY what he looked like. A SHOCKINGLY effective way for the devs to imply that this takes place in the past even without explicitly saying anything.
I don't know if you know already, but they did a 'behind the scenes' video for this trailer, shows off concept art, mocap footage, and some of the untextured renders! Really cool.
From someone that's followed Idris acting career, yeah the expressions are on point! I'm an actor ant the anims are straight up on point with all of his regular facial expressions. I was like goddam when i first saw this lol.
Just finished the DLC last night , was incredible easily one of my favorite DLCs of all time. Im very happy Cyberpunk bounced back from that disastrous launch and although we are atleast 5 years away from a sequel im still looking forward to it.
Before this trailer, i thought the Diablo IV cinematics were the best in the market. Now, this single trailer is hands down the best CGI short film I've ever seen. Not only is the CGI itself probably the best I've ever seen from the Mo-Cap to the texturing to the animations, but even the freaking storytelling was immaculate. Half the story was told by their eyes alone, and its CGI! And man, re-using that line for "I wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for you" at the end sends chills, man. I wish they did a movie like this
with the quality of this trailer, It's amazing to me we haven't had more all CGI movies instead of animated movies...they could do a cyberpunk movie with this quality of CGI
I don't know that there's a market for this type of animation. Twenty years ago there was a Final Fantasy feature movie ("the spirits within", IIRC) which had amazing CGI for the time, especially humans, and it still holds up today. But it wasn't really well-received and it sure cost a lot, I mean the end credits were one hundred thousand CGI artists, with ridiculous stuff like a hundred guys just for hair animation. It looks amazing but it's probably too much, and movie studios are all about "return on investment".
Yeah remember that Final Fantasy the spirits within was such a major flop that not even the massive success of Final Fantasy X and Kingdom Hearts could save Squaresoft from bankruptcy and a merger.
I’m very impressed by your channel. I love learning from experts, like yourself. And I’ve got to say, your production on your videos is outstanding. It sounds great in my headphones and the lighting/video quality is top notch. Excellent stuff, my man. I subscribed!
Im sure your channel is gonna go up in numbers quick. Really like the react contact, cause your professional eyes sees more than mine lol. Also id recommend Diablo 4 cinematics!
Eyes and lips seem to be the hardest for animators to nail. This trailer nailed the eyes, lips are arent quite as good. Its the same way in game, the eyes are near perfect, the lips leave a little to be desired. However, i wouldnt be judging the lips so hard if everything else in the facial animation didnt look so good. But it is unfortunate that theres a slight imperfection in the second most important part of the face for storytelling, especially next to everything else being so good. But of course, im nitpicking here. It all looks great, both in game and in trailers.
@@ChompStudio Even with the lips issue I mentioned, in game the characters show so much emotion through their bodies, faces and most impressively the eyes. It's honestly some of the best facial animation I've seen from a non-linear game. (Linear games have a huge advantage for these kinds of things, since they don't have to account for variables)
Hi there, I've just started to immerse myself into this world of graphic design and game design. I'm loving the adventure! Are there any tips/advice you can give a beginner in this field? I've started learning Unreal Engine 5.3 and Blender so far but just beginner basics. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you.
Yeah, a lot of the time you can tell something is CG by looking at the eyes and how they move, but you don't really get that reveal in this trailer: it's too well done for that. IMO the only thing that gives away Idris Elba's rendering as CG is the movements of his lips.
@@ChompStudio Yup, Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. There's also 2 DLC's that went out later - Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. Each with it's own cinematic. Each is so bloody brilliant. I wholeheartedly endorse seeing them :)
@@ChompStudio I've forgot to mention a recommendation. Please watch diablo 4s announcement trailer. That is also bonkers good. Many call it the best animation from Blizzard. Have fun! :)
I literally only watched a 10min video from this channel and youtube is floowding me with suggestions but no,this man just talks a hell of a lot and i cant stand it... How tf do you disable suggestions?
Hey there! I've definitely been having fun looking at these cinematics from the lens of Motion Design, animation, and storytelling. We can learn a lot of great animators for our own projects...but I understand where you are coming from. What other video production or motion design content would you like to see?
What do you guys think of the Phantom Liberty Cinematic? Are you going to get the DLC? What should we check out next?
Its not DLC. Its an expansion - Idris Elba
I like how they managed to beat the uncanny valley feeling by making it clear that it's an animation but also exploiting that to its fullest extent by the realism
Totally agree with this. There are some good bts from the studio online. They did such a great job all throughout this cinematic!
I recall the first ones to attempt such a feat is Square Enix with Spirts Within which for the time was a major leap in that direction

So well done! They obviously did their research! Love seeing that level of commitment!
Is that why his eyes were freaking me the fuck out
Despite knowing it was "in the past" i was like why tf his eyes look so big and young
I am a Cyberpunk fanboy I am so in lore with this lore!
Its so good. Rumors are there is a live action Movie being talked about...we will see!
They so need to make a movie in this style telling of Idris' mission in Night City.
Oh man....I totally agree! Imagine a feature length 3d Cyberpunk Film!
@@ChompStudio they are making Cyberpunk live-action series or movie in future, as that been recently announced
Whhhaaatttt....Im going to have to look into this! Thanks!
@@tomsvfxeven more cyberpunk media I’m all in
Cyberpunk 2077 is the kind of game that makes it hard to get back to older games. The level of immersion is off the charts.
I totally agree. I was deep into Baldurs Gate 3, then I made the mistake of checking out Cyberpunk and Phantom Liberty....I have touched BG3 since ha.
Its funny how we're a month later and now WoW War Within has taken the crown for CGI fidelity which is crazy since this trailer was fantastic.
Dang ok....Ive been going through the comments today and I keep see this from people. Ill check this video out this week!
For those sharp-eye, lore-centric fans, the plane is pointing towards a stadium. It's in Pacifica - Dogtown where the expansion takes place.
Started a new playthrough...still working my way to the Phantom Liberty expansion. So far everything is looking and playing really well!
So Mi wasn't answering the president because she was talking to V at that moment, playing the expansion makes you see the other side from the ground.

Whoa nice! I just watched it! Pretty amazing MoCap and texturing!
I just started my first play through of the whole game last week. I’m a bit obsessed with it right now. So fun
First playthrough! Nice! The game is at such a better place than at launch! Enjoy!
Have you now also officially gone through the 5 stages of grief and depression this game instills? XD
