This was fantastic! Thank you for sharing!! Do you think you can do A Night To Remember - Witcher 3 trailer cinematic? It’s soo good and I would love to hear your take on it!
One of my favorite ever trailers is "Final Fantasy XIV - A Realm Reborn". (Slightly better version, that would include some 8-year-old spoilers for people who've never played is the "Final Fantasy XIV - Flames of Truth" version. Largely identical, but more detail and more amazing ending.)
@ChompStudio awesome. I was wandering if you were into games or if this encouraged a purchase from you. It is such an awesome experience. Best rpg in a long time. Not without its flaws for sure, but amazing and full of passion none the less.
I like especially that the camera shake during the dragon attack is synced to the wing flaps, as if the air dispacement by the wings is so massive that it shakes the viewer too.
As a long time D&D player. I love this game. It really brought Forgotten Realms to life. The cinematics don't stop there. They are throughout the game :)
@@ChompStudioYep, it's really damn good. The cinematics after this are mostly if not all in game rendered to be able to show your custom character but it still looks really good and the creativity in the cinematics is exceptionally good
@@ChompStudio Don't remember where I read this, but I read that they used 250 unique voice actors in this game. With the amount of variety, I do believe it though and that is quite incredible
I don't know if it's intentional but the way it cuts back and forth between the githyanki knights and the mind flayer is reminiscent of the turn-based nature of D&D and BG3.
Apparently there's 174 hours of cinematics in Baldur's Gate 3. 😮 Larian went all out for this and they're insanely talented. I knew nothing about DnD, but I bought the game anyway based on the trailer and clips I had seen. I've been playing it non stop ever since and I'm simply blown away. It's probably one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had.
The subtle detail that made me fall in love with the game is the end scene in the frosted canyon. The dragon roars and you can see that the cold and speed actually caused the mouth and teeth to frost over.
One brilliant detail I have only just noticed, the first person shots at the end when the ship is on fire, you can see the subsurface scattering through your characters eye lids!
really like these cinematic reactions, hope you do more breakdowns like this. Helps me appreciate them more having someone point out "why" they feel good to watch, besides "cool stuff happened"
The camera shake is a good detail that's easy to forget about if you're not aware of the intricacies of camera work in animation. I hadn't even considered it, but it does feel better because it makes you feel like you're in that place. Each rumble of the ship, each battering of the wind on your metaphorical wings shaking the camera out of place as you descend, etc. On an unrelated note, they seem to be traveling through different planes. The Nautiloid starts off in what I used to assume was Baldur's Gate (but looked it up since there's no sign of that damage or conflict in the city when you get there later on in the game) but is actually a city called "Yartar" which is near Baldur's Gate, then he plane shifts the ship to some icy location in the Shadowfell (which explains why it's night all around; apparently the Shadowfell is just like the material world, but trapped in endless dark) and finally, Avernus (one of the nine hells in the Forgotten Realms setting of DnD), the location we start the game off in. I thought maybe the Shadowfell section was Cania because of the cold and depressing atmosphere, and since he jumps to another hellish plane right after, but considering the themes of the game (Shar, the dark goddess is an important character and Act 2 involves an entire region tainted and corrupted by shadows), it makes sense that it's the Shadowfell. I really hope we get expansion content for this game and I sincerely hope it has a great cinematic like the base game. They're very fun to watch and reveal a lot about the story without you even realizing it. Such as the mindflayer infecting you.
i loved the look of the snow on the dragon when it roars. their dragons look great and i love the look of them flying. the first time i watched this i got so caught up in it that i forgot i was watching a game intro. got sucked in and forgot it wasnt a full movie.
In the scene where the dragons are chasing the ship over the city the detail of the skin on the dragon's wings fluttering with the wind is so satisfying. It just seems very realistic. And yes, the teleport effect is awesome.
The curse of having to watch it everytime you wanna create a new character! Yes you can skip it with ESC but it looks so nice! you can't! You have to watch it, even if it's gross
That was a really fun video, I thought it would have more views to be honest. You seem to know your craft very, very well and the insights you bring were interesting. I appreciate the techniques you explain during the breakdown, I would even personally take more nerdiness on that front, your knowledge is precious. Take my subscribe, I want to learn more about the world of motion design!
Hey thanks! This video actually convinced me to purchase the game. Not only are the cinematics top notch, the voice acting the amount if dialog is really top tier!
I have made probably 50 characters in BG3 and seen this cinematic probably more times than that, and I just noticed the rippling of the Dragon's leathery wings in the wind. Such a small detail but so freakin cool!
Definately one of the coolest cinematic game intros ever, goosepumps guaranteed😲! This game will be an instant classic and hopefully a one that will change the direction of the industry for more gamer friendly content instead of sucking customers money for a lackluster content.
Been following this game since the start of Early Access (even before to be honest) and I'm always jealous of anyone seeing these cinematics for the first time. Such awesome, atmospheric and detailed work. Love it.
The amazing attention to detail in this cinematic is present in every aspect of the game as far as I have played it. Choices you can make, reactivity of the world, music and sound design, voice acting, character design.
Also, when they cut to the inside after the arm is ripped off, the red dragon lines up with the red of the mind flayer's high collar. So the focus of the viewers' vision only changes minimally, avoiding jarring them. Then, after the cut, the mind flayer takes a moment to act, giving us time to take in the scene change and reorient ourselves. The first cut from the ship to the city is also very deliberate with light. First, we get bright light slowly lighting the mind flayer's face, then the opening window exposing the brightly lit outside and only then does the POV change to the bright outside fully. While this also is nice from a storytelling aspect, what impresses me more is how this masks the extreme change in light conditions and saves the viewers' eyes from being blinded.
I'm subscribing because I want to see more professional interest in game cinematics. Too often, people look down on games as trashy or childish - they don't realise that there are some seriously good cinematics out there. Plus there is a MASSIVE gaming audience, if you can tap into it.
I agree....I think there is a lot of that...which is funny...cause I have always loved game cinematics going all the way back to division and Star Wars Old Republic....definitely a lot of cinematic feel and story telling than what most of Hollywood is doing for sure! If people like these videos, Im definitely down to keep making them cause they are a lot of fun and I love the viewer interaction! See you tomorrow!
It's a great cinematic. It's interesting watching it after playing through the game a few times and noticing all the things you missed that turn out to be really important in the story.
Not sure if it was mentioned somewhere in the comments, but the tadpoles that crawled into the your and the woman's eyes are how Mind Flayers reproduce. Eventually, the host transforms into a new mind flayer. If you watch the Baldur's Gate 3 announcement trailer, you can see the transformation in action.
Fun fact: the break in the intro is where the CharGen happens. That intro has not changed AT ALL since Early Access began. The tutorial, however, changed at the point you meet up with the female character after the second room.
@@ChompStudio Due to RL taking me away from the game for lengthy periods (Work schedule + Public transportation times) I only had up to 3 hours each day to play the game. s such, it took me a month and a half to finish one playthrough with a total playtime of 140 hours. The game has 170 hour of cinematics. You heard that right ... This is one game where an "all cinematics" compilation on youtube is probably not feasible.
Blizzard are usually the masters of game cinematography, this is however just as good. The only thing Blizzard does better in almost every single trailer is the production of human relatability, we as humans relate better to what is recognizable and digestible even in sci fi / fantasy scenarios, that includes the emotional consequences. Perhaps to clarify, I showed my mother the scene where Kerrigan gets left alone on Tarsonis (Starcraft), she was absolutely into the whole script and furious about the outcome. I showed her this and she thought it was pretty but she couldn´t understand the whole "tentacle business" as she called it, the only time she actually showed some emotions was during the tadpole/eye scene.
Watched the entire video, waiting to hear comments on motion and animation. Said zilch. Everything you said could've been said by literally anyone with basic knowledge of lighting and photography. Maybe not even that. Jesus, give me back my time!
