Long story short: Inarius (Agnel) and Lilith (Demon) were tired of the eternal conflict of Heaven & Hell, they both rebelled, got together, and birthed a world full of humans. Many years later, Inarius is in denial, trying to buy his way back into heaven by killing her.

There's more to it than that.....essentially he banished her to the Void, for the 1st time, after she killed the Angels that murder the Nephalem (1st Humans) during the Purge. He then used the World Stone, the object they used to create Sanctuary, to weaken the Nephalem so they would become the Humans they are today. After some Humans summoned Demons into Sanctuary the Burning Hells became aware of Sanctuary & began the Sin Wars. Inarius, the Prophet to humanity, helped Humanity fight back against the Burning Hells as he feared what would happen if the High Heavens became aware of Sanctuary as the Burning Hells did. During this time Lilith returned & Inarius vowed to fight her & the Burning Hells after declaring that Sanctuary belonged to him. Inarius would eventually banish her for a 2nd time. He then faced Uldyssian one of Lilith Generals & an awaked Nephalem. during their fight the Heavenly Host entered Sanctuary for the 1st time, eventually Uldyssian would win the fight & imprison Inarius, he then banished the Angels & Demons alike from Sanctuary. In a pact between the High Heavens & the Burning Hells the Heavenly Host gave Inarius to the Lord of Hatred Mephisto, Lilith's father & Grandpappy of Sanctuary, to be tortured for all of Eternity.
Now somehow in D4 Inarius is magically freed from the Realm of Hatred.....and is trying to return to the High Heavens, even though they do not want him. All he's done since being freed is try to make the Heaven Host happy so they will welcome him back. Also just as an FYI, Inarius isn't even a member of the Angiris Council (The Heavenly Host)....he's just the former councilor for the Heavenly Host....there are angels more powerful than him.

The diablo lore is very much a shades of grey sort of thing. There is no good or bad. you got the angels and demons fighting an eternal war, Inarius and Lilith wanted out, and formed a world hidden from the war. Sanctuary. Shacked up, had kids (Nephilim). Nephilim were stronger than both angels or demons, being born of both. And both sides got scared. Angels tried to exterminate the nephilim, Lilith, being the mother, killed the angels. Inarius banished her. Many years pass, nephilim devolve into humans. Now she's back, setting the stage for this game.
Angels hate humans for their demon blood. Demons hate humans because, well, demons. Humans are just trying to survive. There are no good sides here. Inarius is no hero, and Lilith is no villain. They are the abusive mother and father of humanity.

It’s possible that that it’s for storytelling
Emotional distress also played a factor.
It also felt like they retconned a lot of the scaling in 4 too. We casually destroy lesser evils and we are just a nobody. In 3 it made sense. 1/2 it made less sense.
Seeing as how a archangel is still a good a lot less powerful than the 3 main evils and are generally around the level of lesser evils.
For argument purposes we can say Lilith is like 40-50% of mephisto. Seeing as she is direct offspring
malthael and imperious are different beasts entirely. Obviously. (Especially RoS malthael) you could bring up tyrael who actually kept up with imperious but I do not think a long term fight was in tyraels favor.
If I had to scale. Yes. Inarius is the weakest of the archangels but I wouldn’t say “by far the weakest” he still scales to lesser evils. If he wasn’t emotionally distressed it would have been a good fight with Lilith.

    • @Quankhi1
      @Quankhi1 6 місяців тому +6

Inarius was a warrior angel under Tyrael, he wasnt part of the Angiris Council, thus probably less powerfull than the 5 top dogs...but...when he and Lilith stole the Worldstone and created Sanctuary, he attuned himself to the stone, become more powerfull than any other being in that Universe, with Godlike powers and even then, he got scared when he saw the power of the first Nephilims (his and Lilith's first children), since they had both the power of Heaven and Hell in them. After the Sin War ended, Heaven and Hell made a pact to keep relative "peace", but Mephisto asked for Inarius to be brought to Hell as a war prisoner and he was tormented there up until the events of D2 and D3 when the Worldstone was destroyed and the Evils destroyed and captured in the Black Soulstone. Inarius got free and was back in Sanctuary, reestablishing his Church of the Light and seeking to get back in the Heavens, without knowing that after the events of Diablo 3 (Heaven was almost destroyed by Diablo invading it as a reincarnation of the 7 headed beast Thatamet), closed their gates so they can rebuild and recover, thus he got no answer from them. This leads to the events of D4, where he tries to "right the wrongs" he did, like killing his son, Rathma, since in his eyes was an abomination and trying to kill Lilith and charge into Hell, hoping that by his war deeds he will be deemed worthy to go back in to Heaven

    • @fadeddragon123

@@Quankhi1 I genuinely wonder wtf the council was doing in 4.
Tyrael is probably dead seeing as how he had a mortal body.
The archangel of fate (I always forget her name) was likely responsible for our victories in 4. Seeing as how our character is a nobody
Imperious… he just shows up to battle the big evils.
Malthael is probably dead. We defeated him but it skeptical he is fully dead.
I’m missing one but I don’t know which.

One thing the Blizzards cinematics team always nails is their source of lighting. It really helps to draw you into the scene to always know exactly where the light is coming from and see how it changes. Forget all the amazing textures and designs, if you just animated the light on generic thumbnails, it would still tell you so much about the scene. No amount of detail-work can make up for weak fundamentals and the fundamentals here are SOLID!

Hell and Heaven are opposites and repel each other, Inarius has to use his wings to tether himself to the ground, so he can land. The ground ruptures before his boots even touch it, showcasing the forces involved. Why he can move unhindered after that, no idea.
Also, Inarius is an arrogant douche who basically wants to exterminate the humans and destroy their world (Sanctuary), so the deaths of 'his' soldiers do not bother him, they are simply a distraction. He had a son with Lilith (who he murdered) and they created Sanctuary together, but for that they were cast out from their respective factions. Inarius thinks he can just 'undo' everything and ascend back into the High Heavens.

Inarius doesnt want to exterminate the humans and destroy their world, you are mistaking him with Malthael. Inarius doesnt give too much of a though about humans, he just wants to go back home (aka the heavens) and hes jaded as heck after being tortured by Mephisto (Greater evil and father of Lilith) during milennia. He is using humans to reach his purpose but that doesnt mean he wants them extinct, at worst he will cast aside them

    • @user-nx1uv1xy8y
      @user-nx1uv1xy8y 8 місяців тому +2

      @@masterblaster5186
It is known that Inarius created Sanctuary (with help of others).
It is known that his and Lilith's offspring was the first nephalem.
It is known that he feared the nephalem's power and potential and used violence to curb the first generation and the worldstone to 'devolve' further generations, until they became human.
In Diablo 4's story it is mentioned that he wishes to return to the high heavens, at any cost, by undoing his actions.
This implies getting rid of Sanctuary and everything in it. And even if I misinterpreted this, turning Sanctuary's inhabitants into humans (basically defenceless cattle) is already a form of genocide, just slower.
      So in summary:
Yes, you are correct, he most likely didn't want to exterminate humanity at the point of his death. But what do you think would have been his next step, had he succeeded in killing Lilith, after killing their son? He would have started to undo everything else that led to his 'fall', starting by turning on humanity.
At least I think so, I am no expert, nor am I actively immersing myself in the Diablo lore.

  • @ravenhavengaming

Because you asked about their son: His name was Rathma, the first Necromancer and he foresaw the fight between his father and mother. Inarius thought that he was meant to kill her and hoped to get back into the heavens by doing so. And since Rathma had the key to hell, Inarius confronted him. But Rathma did refuse to give him the Key, so he killed him (which btw didn't even get him the key, since that was hidden in his staff, which Inarius used to kil him). You can hear the sorrow in Liliths voice when she asked about their son. She really did care about him, its also sad when she finds his body. In my opinion, Inarius did indeed belong into hell like Lilith said.

The story is Innarius and Lilith are an Archangel and Demon. The heavens and hells have been locked in an endless battle called the eternal conflict. Tired of it, Innarius abandoned the heavens and Lilith fleed from hell, with an artifact. They used it to create a world called sanctuary, hidden from the dark and divine forces. They fell in love, and beared a child, who would start a new race nephili, and over thousands of years would eventually become humans. Innarius wanted to get away from the Eternal Conflict, but Lilith wanted to end it, and it turns out the Nephili were extremely powerful, so Lilith decieved him into creating an army to overthrow the heavens and hells but the truth is Lilith really did love him. After finding out Liliths true plans, he killed their son in order to get in havens good graces again, but heaven would not accept someone who was willing to cast it aside for a demon.

But Inarius doesn´t care about humans at all. Prava is just a tool and humans are just cannon fodder (Cathedral of Light is acting like the Inquisition) He hates them because they are so weak and useless. But back in the days it was him that altered the World Stone (because Angels were so scared of what Nephalem are capable of. Way stronger than any Angel or Demon) and with every generation the Nephalem getting weaker and weaker and no powers were left. The only thing he cares about now is returning to the High Heavens whatever it cost, even kil ling his firstborn son. But long loong ago the High Heavens already banished him bc he was cooperating with a Demon and this is simply a sacriledge that cannot ever be forgiven. Thats why Lilith said and it´s my absolute favourite line ❤ "Silence is their Judgement". Even he was hold captive for a long time in the Burning Hells (however he could escape-it´s unknown) and whatever he did he never had the chance of going back again. That´s why he is so desperate and disillusioned. Usually dead Angels are being reborn in the Heavens after a long time, but i don´t know if his spirit is able to be reborn if once banished. Definitely not as an Arch Angel but..perhaps. So both of them are just very manipulative selfish characters in their own way. They had a very ugly divoce and you are the poor child that sits between the chairs. Lilith loves their children like a mother but only if they "obey" and/or decide to follow her call. if not...you´re screwed anyway🤷‍♀

In Diablo, mankind is actually the descendants of the angels and demons who were tired of the Great Conflict and abandoned their sides to live together on the world called Sanctuary.

Inarius is a pathetic idiot in the end, perhaps time in hell has twisted his will. But I love how despite that he portrayed as a god in the eyes of his cult.

This game for me was 10/10 graphics, 10/10 sound, 10/10 storyline, but the perfect score stops right there. Gameplay 3/10, Character/items/skills 2/10, and I didn't even want to make it to the end game since items were boring and skills were impractical. Not to mention trying to determine which piece of gear is better. Compared to D2R, their own game, D4 is a mixed bag, and I don't like the mix enough to warrant more than the one playthrough. I do watch the cinematics and reactions, because that was the best part of the game.

I've said this for years: if Blizzard was half as good at making games, as they are at making cinematics, they would be at their original glory where they once were.

Always disappointed the initial reaction is a mom who watches 5 minutes of the movie an hour in, then does nothing but ask questions. Was hoping to hear commentary on the motion mechanics. And not, oh dude, he's an angel or something.

But my top ones are from warcraft maybe from Warlords of draenor till the Shadowlands cinematics and I really say check them you are not gona be dissapointed

the only reason i feel a little sorry for Inarius is because for a time he was alone at Mephesto's...."mercy"
Be alone tortured by your ex-wife's psycho father and see if you come out sane.
But he seems to forget that it was his kin that gave him over to Mephesto in the first place and just blames everything on Lilith,Sanctuary and his children....

2:50 Feels like they couldn't choose if they wanted impactful landing, or graceful and powerful landing so they combined them both and didn't get either.
They could have had slow, floating landing where the ground crumbles, or fast and strong impact that crushes the ground. But now the angel awkwardly floats to show ground crumbling and then snaps to the ground like someone turned on a huge magnet.
Secondly I don't like if cinematics have combat just because. They already have so little time and every second should be used to convey a message/set something up. Easy to say, hard to do. But ie 3:03 he fights weak enemies to show that he is very powerful (and to show some gore), but his establishing shot already did that very well. I know he is powerful just from that. Alternative solution would have been him ignoring all the small guys, just moving past them as they pose absolutely no threat to him, picking up his spear from inside the monster, leaving it to bleed and going after the girl.
Could have used that 30s to better show the relationship between the demon girl and angel (unless I should already know it from the game), or just cut it.
As example, vanilla WOW cinematic has good combat, showing how the state of the world progresses.
Additionally the conversation between the angel and demon girl is very unconvincing. She speaks on behalf of her enemy and he believes him without hesitation? He has come all that way and all that was required to break his will is his enemy telling him that what he is doing is not good enough?
Should have laid more heavily into the "silence is their judgment", because that time she is not telling him what others are thinking but seeding doubts in him (something a devil might do). But it needs more time, she doesn't press the issue and he flips immediately.
Overall very good cinematic. Bit of good storytelling, bit of poor storytelling but visually excellent all around.
    6.5/10

Hey thanks for stopping by...love it when other get involved! Another viewer commented saying this about the Anarius needing to be tethered to the ground....its pretty cool lore:
"Hell and Heaven are opposites and repel each other, Inarius has to use his wings to tether himself to the ground, so he can land. The ground ruptures before his boots even touch it, showcasing the forces involved."

Because as Motion Designers and Animators we appreciate the talent and story-telling of great looking cinematics. Just because someone hasn't played diablo, doesn't mean that they cant enjoy the cinematic and learn from it. Baldur's Gate is a great personal example. A few fellow motion designer told me to check it out and react to it, and I actually purchased the game right after that video. Hope that helps.
