    Okay, if you listen closely, the whole song is actually a flashback. The first line "It was long ago and it was far away and it was so much better than it is today". Basically, it's an old, married couple, flashing back to their first time, after the high school dance, parked by the lake, and not another car in sight. And he can see "Paradise" by the dashboard lights, but just as he is about to slide into home, she pulls the emergency brake. No ding-ding without a wedding ring. Finally, he caves in and swears his undying love. Flash forward, back to the present, and here's that same couple after who knows how many years of marriage, suffering "buyers remorse", but neither one willing to break the vows they made that night. And, yes, if you watch, she wants out as bad as he does. Watch it again and pay close attention to the words. FYI The whole baseball game in the background, in the 50s, 60, 70s (maybe 80s too) guy code for how your date went was baseball - 1st base, kissing, maybe some outside the clothes groping, 2nd base everything above the waist, 3rd base everything except . . ., Home Run rather self-explanatory. Most people under 40 don't get that reference.

      @PoppyFlux 8 місяців тому +13

      Baseball terms were used in the same way in the UK too, in the 80's - I'm assuming you're referencing the US, so I apologise if you're not.
      I was born in '74 and Meatloaf was one of my fave singers during my teen years, along with Queen, Guns 'n Roses, Cher, and Aerosmith.
      I used to dress up to look older so I could attend a local pub's weekly heavy metal nights to "head bang" to rock music.
      I usually left with a headache and a mess of tangled hair, but it was so much fun! ❤

      never heard a Baseball term used here mate lol......in seemingly every film/TV show imported from the U.S yes. hence we're all familiar with them but i've NEVER heard anyone use them. B 1970 @@PoppyFlux

    When his daughter was in high school in Redding, Connecticut, she was a softball player. One year, the JV team couldn’t come up with a coach; he agreed to do the job. His focus was totally on the team and the girls. He would never sign autographs until games were over and was known to extend practices if reporters showed up, just to make them wait.
    He only did it one year, but how many other performers would have even thought about doing that.

I totally understood. But I believe Phil was proud of that song and his participation.”

    I’m 67 so I musta been a teenager when this video aired. No MTV or other full time music station in those days. Our hometown had 2 radio stations and one was a country and western the other station played the rest, pop, rock, r&b, top 10 stuff. Being a teen starving for musical input anything live on TV was appreciated. And funny thing the whole family usually teens, moms, dads, grandparents, gran kids all watched shows together. Well you can bet, living in a catholic household, the entire family was stunned. Music and video were such luxuries back then. I couldn’t understand the entire song it was a lot to take in and I only had a tiny confused teenage brain to digest what I was watching. Those days 1 song could change culture since the musical pipelines where so small entire families like I said watched entertainment together. Today I know hardly 1 new artist or top 10 anything song. Music united and brought everyone together. Today music seems to be the divider of peoples. Sorry about the rant. I enjoy your content and I just wanted you to know how it was. Oh and the video left the whole household speechless. Those days were the musical turning points of us and our country and the world. Out!

    Karla Devito is the name you're searching for. Meatloaf got his start on Broadway as did Karla. Think of the song as a mini Broadway production. Most of the kissing scenes in his songs over the decades were acting. Jim Steinman wrote this song as well as the entire Bat out of Hell album. He also wrote i would do Anything. Steinman also hot his start on Broadway. When you saw a Meatloaf show you saw about 20 mini Broadway musicals. You really didn't need to see his duets with Patricia Russo.

    Jim Steinman wrote the songs for the album. Meat Loaf was an actor who sang and that's why his videos are so fun to watch. and why his concerts were so much fun to see. Steinman wrote for Meat Loaf's big voice. Steinman also wrote "Total Eclipse of the Heart" but didn't offer it to Meat Loaf which caused a rift between them when Bonnie Tyler had such a big hit with the song. Ellen Foley sang on the album but didn't want to tour because she was working on her own career. Ellen was also an actor who sang. That is Ellen Foley's voice heard in the video, but Karla DeVito is seen in the video. She sang the part on tour, but the live recording didn't work out so they dubbed the studio recording over it. Later Patti Russo toured with Meat Loaf and sang the part.
