He was A DRUMMER FIRST, one of the most underrated drummers you'll ever watch! Go back and listen to him doing solos with Genesis. He started playing drums from the time he was super young!
This was one of the most epic performances of this song. He can not only sing but his drum playing is on point and damn if he can’t do both at the same time !! TALENT!!!
Thank you so much for bringing the music of my childhood and teenage years to a new generation of listeners. Seriously the best type of music ever - IMHO.
He plays lots of instruments! I believe he wrote this while going through his divorce. She initiated it because She was in an affair! He was on the road getting his career started & she Thought he was fooling around but in the bio I heard that he didn't have time for it with trying to make it big. & Make It, He Did!❤
@@marshawargo7238 id read that his first wife was having an affair with a local decorator, and had been overheard in a pub talking to her friends about how this decorator earnt a decent income while Phil Collins and the others in Genesis were doing the pub/club rounds not earning much. Followed PC from the 80s and love your expression. For us back then it was normal but not to take anything away from him, he's one of a kind and pretty intense.
That's why he had a headset on. He was the original drummer for Genesis and not the lead singer until Peter Gabriel left, he's also quite the comedian during his concerts. I was lucky enough to get to see him years ago wonderful.
I was puzzled at first about your reaction to the headset, cuz I knew Phil Collins first as Genesis' drummer/lead singer. Then as I understood you didn't know what was coming, I was anticipating both his drumming & your reaction. LOL. I'm still grinning over it. Phil Collins was a great performer. I saw him in 1984 (Genesis, Mama tour) and it was FANTASTIC. Ya know... my dad always said you should learn at least one new thing every day. I enjoyed watching you learn. :)

Probably one of the most iconic drum sequences in any song. This song was also featured in the original Miami Vice TV show. Nonpoint redid the song for the Miami Vice movie and it's an awesome remake.
The look on your face when you realised the legend that is Phil Collins plays the drums is priceless! Phil could put his shoes under my bed anytime. Love him.❤🦘🇦🇺
Every aspect of this performance is perfect. The timing, the lighting effects, the camera work, his voice and his drumming all blend together perfectly in the best performance I have ever seen by any artist. And I’m 77 and have a lot to compare him to.
Life goes full circle, if you live long enough, as I saw Phil and his original Group: GENESIS play their first ever Top Of The Bill performance with 3,000 others in Croydon, South East London,England in 1972 and now 52 years have passed since...
The look on your face when you heard his voice was Great! I cracked a smile from ear to ear. But when he walked upstairs to his drums and you realized he played that cracked me up... as a 65yr old I grew up with this Classic rock and Country music. Keep investigating because there is way More songs out there for you to learn about. 😅
The night before Super Bowl XL, Bill Cowher turned the lights down low and had the Steelers lie on the floor. He told them to relax and envision the next day, pre-game warm-up, playing, winning, and celebrating. Then he play "In The Air Tonight." Many of the players say it was a spiritual experience that propelled them to the victory.
The first time I saw it I was stressed he wasn’t going to make it to the drum kit in time because he was so nonchalant about it lol! So glad you got to experience it. Great reaction!
It brings me such great joy to watch you appreciate this track... When Peter Gabriel left Genesis, Phil Collins doubted he had the vocal chops to take the lead vocal spot. Phil, and in particular with this song, is widely credited with the iconic gated reverb drum sound. Bassist Lee Sklar (on that trippy Dingwall with fanned frets) is a serious session and touring first call guy. Man, you made me smile with this one...
This video shows why its important to watch live performances, so you can become acquainted with the musicians and what they contribute to making a song. Without watching this, you had no idea Phil Collins was a drunmer. Great reaction
This was from yeeeeeears ago; he's 71 now! (just retired last year due to health) Gives me chills every time I hear this Live version. Phil Collins started out as the fantastic drummer for Genesis; he wasn't actually a singer until later, and not "trained". You should really be saying, "HE SINGS TOO?!" I'm from his time (I'm 60 now) and it gives me joy that someone your age enjoy and appreciate this.
That performance shows exactly why I'm so happy to be 70 years old and have lived through some, if not all, of the most important and best music from Buddy Holly to Elvis, the Beatles, Rolling Stones all the way through to today's somewhat different styles of music like Rap and Ren. I like to think that somehow there is more great music to come, but I find it difficult to imagine what that might sound like. I mean, I've heard it all, haven't I!?!?
Actually there is someone new to hear. His name is Dimash Kudaibergen and he is acknowledged by voice experts the world over as having the best voice today if not ever, then in generations. He has a seven octave range, multiple genres, and can literally sing anything. He’s highly educated, does world tours, tall, dark, and handsome, and known for his kindness and humanity and he’s still only 29 years old. There so much to know about him and he has an extensive catalog of music.
Me too! I am 65 and I loved the musical journey of my life. The talent we have witnessed! I feel sorry for ppl who weren't exposed to it all like we were.
This song and this performance has got to be one of THE most viewed songs to watch somebody react to, lol. We're all just sitting here waiting... waiting..... waiting..... BAM! Laughing as our hosts are confused to the buildup; lost as to why this song is requested so many times. And we're all grinning...... BAM..... NOW you know why everybody wanted you to watch this one. You've now entered another era of your life. Back when concerts were raw. Just a man, his band, a killer hook and passion. He's got this crowd from the second the song starts, strolling along, taking his time to connect with everyone who's there and then knocking it out of the park. You're welcome
@@TenCapQuesada I know right? When I go to a concert now I'm always wondering why people bothered spending so much money to be there when they're not actually watching the show. So sad.

Dude pioneered a whole ass decade defining production technique that is still used to this day and one of the core components of the sound of the 1980's
You miss the point, you forget he was the lead singer and drummer in Genesis. I only know one more more band with the lead singer to be a drummer, its a Finnish band called the hurryganes, good band by the way, look it up.
Levin Helm from The Band, he sang and played drums and Don Henley, The Eagles
@@Mr_Seppo Don Henley of The Eagles and Kelly Keagy both shared lead singing duties while drumming.
@@sharona256 also many forget
Karen Carpenter also sang and played the drums
both exceptionally well

Not only does he play the drums, but he’s unequivocally one of the top drummers in the world… The GOAT!
Wait till he finds out how many other artists he played drums for. And how many drum machines he programmed for other artists.
It's a tie for me. Phil Collins and the drummer for Rush
KAREN CARPENTER was FIRST!!
Period!
One of the best live performances EVER! What a story teller. Gives me goosebumps every time! We love you Phil. Great review!
❤ from Vegas
"Different layers to music" love that. Phil Collins is a legend here in the uk, has been for decades.. Peace & Love from Liverpool Uk ✌🏼
Try legend worldwide... U just being modest lol
🇬🇧 Phil was a drummer before he was a singer! Now in his 70s and unfortunately can no longer play the drums due to a bad fall a number of years ago. Please try "Mama" by Genesis, it really shows off his vocal ability. 🥁🩵🇬🇧
He's been suffering with a spinal injury since 2007 so can hardly walk very sad .
Also folow you follow me genesis
Mama! my favourite track 😃
I remember that song. It's great!
@@janolafulI heard. Maybe the goal is to admire what he did accomplish.
Just watching your reaction was priceless. Phil is a very gifted man. He's wrote many many songs for himself and others. There's only one Phil Collins.
Amen to that!!!
Yep this song was about him witnessing his friend drawn and the man who did go to jail.
OMG! Seeing Phil Collins live was the treat of a lifetime!! I am almost 72 years old now, and have followed him ever since he was in the band Genesis! He was A DRUMMER FIRST, one of the most underrated drummers you'll ever watch! Go back and listen to him doing solos with Genesis. He started playing drums from the time he was super young!
Your reaction to Phil sitting down, priceless, knew it was coming, you will never unhear that.
If you’re at a light and someone’s playing the drums, you know it’s Collin’s doing ITAT.
You just watched one of the best live performances in musical history. Every time I watch it I find myself forgetting to breathe.
😂😂😅😊 Me too!
I agree %1000!!!!
Yes!
100% agree Whole concert is an absolute joy
Yes!!!
I find myself holding my breath every time I watch a new reaction to this!!
He IS a drummer...who became a singer!!🎶🥁🎶🎵💙
Sounds like Karen Carpenter story as well eehh!!
And that being the reason he often sat a paint pot on the stage at the start of any concerts, ie just to stick up two fingers at them lol
OMG! You had the best reaction to this video. YOU were speechless. Phil Collins made you speechless. Mark this day down in history!😆🤣🥳😱🫣
Most people have no clue how incredibly difficult it is to sing (and at THIS level) and drum at the same time. Special, special talent.
Yep, just ask Don Henley.
I've tried and I failed. 🤣 I now know my limits as a musician!
I can drum but not both
Check out Karen Carpenter, she could sing and play drums too at highest level!
Apparently Phil's a left handed drummer...apparently makes a difference when playing and singing
Followed PC from the 80s and love your expression. For us back then it was normal but not to take anything away from him, he's one of a kind and pretty intense.
'He plays the drums?!' Oh wow bro that is brilliant. Mr Collins IS a drummer!
Phil on the drums is THE moment of the entire song haha. Great reaction, loved how it took you by surprise
That's why he had a headset on. He was the original drummer for Genesis and not the lead singer until Peter Gabriel left, he's also quite the comedian during his concerts. I was lucky enough to get to see him years ago wonderful.
He was actually the 3rd drummer for Genesis. He joined them for their 3rd album Nursery Cryme.
This is SICK!!! What an incredible performance from none other than Phil Collins!!
I love how the audience gets hyped up as he approaches the drums, they know whats coming.
YES!!
HE PLAYS THE DRUMS!!
that's what we all were waiting for ...
His "DRUM SOLO!"
Love Phil Collins..one of the most talented musician and drummer of our time !! Brilliant drummer and sad now that he is unable to drum anymore due to his illnesses..pure icon and part of music history forever ❤ 🎶 🎵 🥁
I have been waiting to see your reaction to THIS performance. It was fire!!! Have watched it a 1,000 times and NEVER tire of seeing young people's reactions to his raw talent.😊
Probably one of the most iconic drum sequences in any song. This song was also featured in the original Miami Vice TV show. Nonpoint redid the song for the Miami Vice movie and it's an awesome remake.
Yeah, he was a world-class drummer before he was a singer-songwriter. This guy oozes music. Thanks for a great reaction!
I’ve been a PC/Geneis fan for years. LOVE how much you enjoyed the performance. Great way for the younger gen’s to hear great musicians
The man is a legend and a national treasure here in UK... this performance is phenomenal.. Thank you for making my evening great
One of the best drummer singers we have in my opinion 🎉
The look on your face when you realised the legend that is Phil Collins plays the drums is priceless! Phil could put his shoes under my bed anytime. Love him.❤🦘🇦🇺
Every aspect of this performance is perfect. The timing, the lighting effects, the camera work, his voice and his drumming all blend together perfectly in the best performance I have ever seen by any artist. And I’m 77 and have a lot to compare him to.
How blessed we were in the 70's and 80's. Amazing music was all around us. Phil was there.
I'm so grateful to the time I grew up in. The music and musicians were incredible. No autotune. Sheer talent.
That is what 50 plus years of professional live musical performance experience looks like. Phil has been star of the show for a LONG time.
Life goes full circle, if you live long enough, as I saw Phil and his original Group: GENESIS play their first ever Top Of The Bill performance with 3,000 others in Croydon, South East London,England in 1972 and now 52 years have passed since...
@@Isleofskye It has been 60 since he first stared in the West End.
@@Michael_Biggs_ He was more of a Dodger than "Artful" in those days.:)
Never forget staying up late on Friday nights to catch Phil Collins on MTV singing and playing the drums. Legend!!!!
That was freaking hilarious that you didn't know he was a drummer. Made my night smiling ear to ear. Thanks so much!
His son is fantastic on drums now in his place
Phil Collins is a musical genius. ❤
YESSSS... He plays drum, piano and saxophone. He is a very talented guy...🥰🥰🥰
He is one of the most talented musicians ever. Acting, singer, drummer, keyboard and many more. Endless talent.
I get chills every time I see this !! 🔥🔥🔥
Loved your reaction. The best live performance ever!!!!
You just watched the performance of a lifetime. My favorite Collins song. He wears loose stuff because its cool and loose. They wear battery packs.
Phil Collins is an outstanding Drummer!
Phil Collins is one of the best drummers of his generations IMO. So funny to see your reaction to him playing the drums!
And a time when the crowd could clap, wave their arms and participate without having to hold up smartphones!
@@TenCapQuesada I know right? When I go to a concert now I'm always wondering why people bothered spending so much money to be there when they're not actually watching the show. So sad.
Was lucky to see him a few times in my youth many many years ago brilliant live performer , never let his audience down . Love his music x
Your not foolish sir Your Young! I'm 63 and grew up with phil collins ❤
