Definitely need to check out the other songs/videos that go with it… in order Don’t Cry, November Rain, and Estranged. And they are an eighties hair band they just started in the 80’s and kept in good into the nineties.. but so good!

I have grown to wish music videos didn't exist sometimes... The beauty of music is the connection and the story is the same but different for every person depending on how they experience it... Videos take away the last part of the creation and TELL you how to see and feel the song rather than let you find your own

Totally agree! The video just doesn't compare to how incredible the music is. The arrangement, the guitar solo, the vocals. Watching them play this live would have been amazing, I'm guessing.

This video trilogy is based on the short story Without You (worth reading if you get a chance). The story is about a rockstar who cheats on his girlfriend. She forgives him and they get married. She is never able to get over the betrayal and ends up committing suicide by shooting herself in the head. He then goes on to rebuild his life as a better person. It's been a long time since I've read it, but that's pretty much the storyline. Great reaction!! 😊

Slash is way overrated by people that don't play guitar, and way underrated by people that do play guitar.

    • @fredriknilsson6042
      @fredriknilsson6042 2 місяці тому +9

@@srdgranti really dont know what you base that on. He is a great guitar player regardless if you play yourself or not. And there are professional guitar players today that are heavily influenced by him.

    • @srdgrant
      @srdgrant 2 місяці тому +3

@@fredriknilsson6042 because people that play at an intermediate or higher level have a realistic understanding of what is actually really difficult or original from a technical standpoint.
If you don't play, there is a ton of music that sounds really impressive that isn't, and a ton that sounds really easy that isn't.
None of Slash's songs are that hard, relative to his peers.
He also didn't do very much outside the box of what had already been done.
Your comment made me genuinely curious which modern guitar players were influenced by him. I did a Google search and couldn't find any. (I'd actually like to know)🤓
Where I think he's underrated, is in his ability to write commercially successful riffs and solos. A lot of players tend to undervalue that skill and focus solely on the technical ability, despite the fact that they can't write like that.
Although very different and way more original, David Gilmore and Kurt Cobain get the same criticism.
Most of Kurts riffs are so easy to play it's beginner level, but try to write that many instantly memorable and identifiable songs. There are few that have.
In terms of Rock Star image, Slash might be the goat. It's Angus for me, but they're neck and neck in my opinion.

They're all over the place. It just isn't dished out to us over MTV anymore and we have to do a little hunting. Them Crooked Vultures, GHOST, Gojira, etc. Just nothing as "universal" as it used to be, because there's so much of everything out there these days and we're all fragmented into our pockets. Same reason we all could gather around the water cooler and talk about the latest episode of Dallas the next morning or in the 00's, gather around and talk about Lost the next morning. But today, there's so much good content out there -- and on top of that, we can consume at our own pace and when it fits into our lives -- that there's no longer that zeitgeist. Half of people may not even get around to watching the thing you love today, for another decade.

I love this song but never read the book it's based on, and I was always puzzled if he had anything to do with her death, cause they show a scene with him passing by a gun store and him having nightmares, I guess I need to read the book. Great reaction as always, love your channel.

The ads at the end of the video are covering up "Based on the short story 'Without You' by Del James" .
And yes, they did play this song on the radio --- every minute of it. I don't listen to the radio anymore, but I am sure the rock stations still play it, the entire song.
'November Rain' is part of a GnR trilogy....the other two songs are 'Don't Cry' and 'Estranged' (my absolute favorite GnR song). Hope you react to those one day!

    Guns is still that band.
Rumor has it that the wedding was real, as Axl was dating the model (Stephanie Seymour, who was one of the biggest Victoria's Secret models ever) playing the bride at the time (a surprise wedding for the bride) . She threw a fit and they played it off as "just a video".

Yes, they are an 80s band. This is from a trilogy. Don’t Cry, November Rain and Estranged. I love all 3 songs and videos. Back in the day, when the video Estranged was made, it was THE MOST EXPENSIVE video ever. It was like $1 million just to make it with all the technology and all. Back then, the video was really just so ground breaking and amazing to watch. I’d have to say of the 3, it’s my favorite song. Again, all 3 songs are just AWESOME! And YES 🙌🏽 they played these songs on the radio. There are some long songs they always play on the radio, like Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, Lynard Skynard’s Free Bird, etc.
Definitely check out the other 2 songs. There’s sooo many GNR songs- You Could be mine, Sweet Child O Mine, Civil War, I used to love her, etc.
Actually, their album Appetite for Destruction is probably one of the best album.
That was a great reaction ❤

*The meaning of the video is this:*
It's a recurring nightmare Axl is having that he'll be the 'death' of any quality woman he brings into his life. He knows he's a toxic trainwreck who's out of control. He fears exposing a respectable lady to his chaotic lifestyle. That's why it doesn't show what killed her. It's still a dream, remember? You turn around one second later and something catastrophic has happened. Things are rarely explained in dreams. You just have to go with it.
All that really matters here is that Axl is convinced he will be her ruin no matter what. His ultimate moment of happiness (marriage) can only be the beginning of her end because she's hitching herself to him, and his endless insanity. It's his ultimate fear come to fruition.

Since we're talking about hits you've heard of from Guns 'n Roses, there were 7, MAJOR, amazing albums that came out within 44 days of each other in 1991:
Metallica, Metallica (the whole d*mn thing is worth a listen)
Pearl Jam, Ten (again... the whole album is worth a listen)
Guns N’ Roses, Use Your Illusion I (Live and Let Die / November Rain)
Guns N’ Roses, Use Your Illusion II (Knockin' on Heaven's Door / Civil War / You Could Be Mine from Terminator 2... so many more)
Red Hot Chili Peppers, Blood Sugar Sex Magik (Give it Away / Suck My Kiss / Under the Bridge... great album)
Soundgarden, Badmotorfinger (the whole album is amazing... the top track is probably Outshined)
Nirvana, Nevermind (need I say anything?)
It was a great time to be alive for music.

Guns & Roses 🌹 was the biggest Rock band when this song came out. This video was in heavy rotation on MTV & radio in spite of the length. I think it was the 1 st really rock opera since Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody when it came out. I don't think radio would play a song this long these days but this song is still epic. Oh & you were right that 💋 was very much real. Axel was dating the then top Victoria Secret model Stephanie Seymour which just added to the over the top epic feel of the video for me.

I saw them in concert at BC Place in Vancouver, and yes the orchestra was with them as well as the same conductor… it was incredible - there were guys in the audience that were crying. i’ve seen many bands over my 58 years - the best ever live is Guns and Roses, U2, AC/DC, RUSH… as well as a handful of others. There will NEVER be this kind of talent again… EVER - the 70s/80s/90s bands… the crap that comes out nowadays will never match the talent from those years… I was very blessed to have grown up though those years… music from those decades will be forever timeless ❤️🎶

Back in the day when Rock was rock.!! GnR are like the Rollling Stones over here in the UK. They're a simble of the old day's when there wasn't much good guitar music floating around. But they were shining the light.!!
I was a fan from the start, late 80s, onwards, aged late teens early twenties, I was learning guitar at the time, and getting inspired by all this talent that was out that at the time.!
Still play now'ish.! Been in a few bands ,played live in front of 500 people way back in the early 2000s. And I still love music today.
As we know, The Ren Ren is my current favourite on the block.!! But I love my roots in music, including the beats and tweaks of acid house, hip hop, and full on hardcore 4/4 techno.!! Lost a few brain cells in some English fields in the 90's at many new age travellers raves.!! Omg they were the best times.!!!
I could name a shit load of places and venues, but hey, you all get the drift. And I've taken up enough space in chat.!! Lol.😂😂😂🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧

Man, G&R was the biggest thing on the fucking planet, when I was like twelve. It is hard to put into words just how huge they were. It wasn't until I was an adult that I really appreciated the whole band and their musical talent. One of those cases where things ultimately went to shit, but there was a brief glorious moment where everything and everyone clicked and they were dishing out raw magic to the planet. Use Your Illusion I&II still absolutely hold up.

The bride in the video is Axl's then-girlfriend, supermodel Stephanie Seymour. Michael Kamen (writer/composer/conductor) is driving the orchestra. He passed away many years ago, but was one of the greatest composers for music and film scores back in the day. G&R is an experience, every album.
