This is a quick course on the basic rhythmic cells. Master them if you are thinking on learning a musical instrument with the traditional music notation.
Take a drum, a box, a sauce pan and a stick and start drumming these rhythms until you master them.

I love this rhythm song!!
I know they are trynna make it more interesting, but it bothers me that the pitches are changing when the notes are just on E the whole time...
Sharps or flats would be the same line but, it’s for simplicity I would imagine.
I agree... For the purpose of displaying rhythm, they should’ve just placed notes on a single line and not within a staff... If this wasn’t a beginner tutorial it wouldn’t matter as an experienced player would understand what was being displayed here.
The one line in E is the percussion, if you pay attention you’ll be able to hear it
Lampcap I know!!
Same
has studied music for 10 years
UA-cam at 3am *but can you sight read triplets*
Yup!
Yes
How can you tell a musician from a layman? The layman pronounces the word triplets as “trip-lets”. The musician says “trip-o-lets”.
@@csueconner9711 yes, trip-o-let is like that shit you'd do in middle school for sixteenths, wa-ter-mel-on
No
Ive been playing the piano for 12 years, but just now started reading sheet music and I’m having immense difficulty figuring out the most basic rhythms. This helps A LOT! Thanks so much!
Try learning Kodaly instead of counting…..
I loved it..I am 73 my arm hurts but I got everyone correct.. Thank u very much for this... I am going to practice everyday now.
Marlene Greco you can do it, Marlene. I believe in you
Thank you so very much... I have my niece doing this one as she is taking piano lessons. I have helped her along the way. We read music together..Her music teacher is wonderful..My niece and I have so much fun..The memory will live on. She is so kind and just loves coming over. All my music will go to her one day.
Marlene Greco awww
your ears will tell you if its a good rhythm. I don't understand why this is usefull. The rhythm is in my head it's been there since before i was in first grade.
Never stop practicing! ❤️
I’ve been playing the saxophone for 5 years, why am I here.

Lol same
Hey fellow 2-D!

Hehe yeh I’ve played clarinet for 6 years I don’t now why I clicked either
Video title: "Basic rhytms you should master before learning an instrument"
Me, been playing the violin for 12 years "YEAH let's just click on this AND WATCH THE WHOLE THING"
why did it change pitch but stay at the same place in the staff
Because most saucepans come mono-pitched. Whatever percussion instrument you are using is expected to only have one fixed pitch.
That explains it.
Ok, that answer is hysterical! That said, it seems fair to say that, by temporarily taking pitch out of the equation, this lesson helps beginners concentrate exclusively on rhythm. For those new to reading music, focusing on one concept at a time can help remove distraction and thus increase retention of fundamental concepts. Thanks for creating this rhythmic overview!
It was because the note was E, but the key gets higher just in the same key. Or lower.
+StayMused> Indeed, I wanted to concentrate JUST on the rhythm, and not pitch. Here's what I did after listening several times. I muted my sound and re-played the exercise and just followed the dancing bar. I sang "da" out loud for each note, (1) da-da-da-da/ (2) daaa (half note)-daaa (half note)/ (3)daaaaaaa /. That third "measure" is supposed to be a whole note! Like in the audio version I was still a little early when going to the next measure in some cases. I do have a problem with my mute method. I'm a music reading novice so I'm probably wrong when I say this, BUT I wish the video would pause the moving bar ON THE REST, and not stay on the prior note for the rest. Audibly it makes no difference, but visually it looks like the prior note is getting an extra beat. Of course this may be the conventional way, and I shouldn't be muting anyway.
I think this one takes the cake for most helpful vid I’ve watched about music thus far today! Congrats, man, and thank you very much!
The best method to learn music with no pain is yours BRAVO !!!👏👏👏
Next on: offbeat triplets
And after that, duplets in fun times like 12:8
defgecd
Right after that: Jacob Collier
Please play this simple piece is 18:18 time
So at first I didn’t realize what I was looking at and once it clicked I WAS BLOWN AWAY. Thanks for the examples man this is literally what I was looking for. This is so helpful
I like the fact that it's quite long gives you a reasonable amount of practice time. We would do well to listen to it several times.
damn I just realize how bad I am counting lmao

you guys play any instruments?
As a beginning piano student at age 78, I have been having lots of trouble keeping the beat or rhythm. This video is fantastic! The best way to teach rhythm. Thank you.
Jam Bassist here, new subscriber! This is great, many other videos show the notes, but not how the notes are actually played. Great job and keep up the great work!
This should be taught before any instrument is engaged, excellent.
Thank you for taking the time to up load this for beginners in music. I am learning myself and it is so helpful.
One of the best teaching videos on rhythm! Short concise, not much talking. This is how students learn. Thanks. Subscribed and hope to find more of these concise teaching videos
I adore this rhythnic tutorial. It's a wise thought, in practice, on your part - maybe the first of its kind on the 'Net.
Encore to rhythmic tutorials in practice!
Visually great, pitch changes confusing to beginners without explanation!
Good video, although you don't need to know these before you start playing an instrument, you will learn them while playing the instrument.
exactly, thats why you learn an instrument, so you can read rythem and notes
That is correct! But I guess that is just to show non note reading public the 'rythmn' or the 'beat'.
Omg I've learned a lot while watching this , I advise you to watch it till the end , thank you for making such a helpful video
Thank you very much for posting these exercices. It really helps.
Why so many complaints about the notes all being on the same line and not reflecting the music- it's _obvious_ why from the title "basic rhythms" . To me it made perfect sense _not_ to show the melody, since then a beginner like me would be trying to follow the melody and the rhythm at the same time and end up doing neither.
Thanks for your comment
Exactly :)
why do you need to learn rhythms is it not automatic? i've had rhythms stuck in my head since i was a child. I don't need to learn them.
@@TheDeepening718 You're awesome 🤗

You do need to learn musical notation and musical rhythm as pertaining to this notation- something that is not innate but a way of communicating the concept of rhythm.
For all those complaining of the changing pitch here are the notes you can with every page and it will fits with a few exceptions. The notes are taken from a traditional song I know as the Caribbean Sea Splash? (it may have a different name) which is based on this major chord progression: I, IV, I, V, I. If you play a concert flute or a recorder flute or bells or xylophone or any C concert key instrument you can use these pitches for every note in each measure (please note there's an exception in the 7th measure you will have to play 2 pitches divided evenly 2 beats for each) M1=E, M2=F, M3=D, M4=E, M5=G, M6=A M7=G+F, M8=E. If you play a Bb transposing instrument such as a clarinet or trumpet you can use these notes M1=F#, M2=G, M3=E, M4=F#, M5=A, M6=B M7=A+G, M8=F#. If you play a Eb transposing instrument such as alto saxophone you can use these notes M1=C#, M2=D, M3=B, M4=C# (don't touch any keys for that one - just blow), M5=E, M6=F# M7=E+D, M8=C#. if you play drums I would suggest to assign each pitch to one of your drums while kicking the bass drum on every 1st beat and hi-hat on every 3rd beat and hit the cymbal whenever you see a rest. Hope it helps!
oh, so complicated.. I play guitar, and need to feel a rhythm from sheet, but there's E , while it's C. Why??
Very relevant question! Most teachers and tutorials forget to mention that " for the sake of practice " of rhythms any note can be played ! Seems trivial for professionals but big confusion for beginners though
OMG this is very very good.. i learnt more here than i have learned all about rhythm just in a few minuites
Amazing Video!! Great way of showing the concept.
I can learn by figuring things out on my own, and the repetitive practice really helps a lot as well. Thank you!!!
You have made this so easy to understand! You are a savior! Thank You
I dont if im it right but im glad i found this video it was very helpful even though i only know a little about notes. I just bought an aerophone go and im starting from scratch.
Very helpful for people learning music, but let's not forget, some of the worlds best musicians couldn't read a note. It reminds me of those who say, 'Because of the design of a bee's wing in relation to its body size, shape and weight, it shouldn't be able to fly'. Well, thank God nobody ever told the bees. I'm posting TIC of course - Thank you for your posts.
It's been 50 years since I read sheet music, Going to start playing bass guitar so thanks and I subscribed so see you later.
I've been playing for many years too, but these exercises really help improve rhythm
Excellent system to start learning music, you can see, can hear and follow notes which makes the system a great support. Where could I get a complete course ???
I sent this to my music students. I told them to execute the beat pattern and follow the beat of the rhythm. Notice the duration of each note. Very useful in my teaching about rhythm.
Thank you for this. I’m getting my saxophone tomorrow and I’m so excited to play.
Thank you for putting all the notes on the same line. It helped my beginner brain focus just on the timing. It was easy to sing along with the correct notes. Very intuitive.
Today i came to know how to play the notes with bars. Thank you so much for this video. God bless you.
This was a really fun exercise. Thanks!!
Really should have a 'click track' noise or visual i.e. something showing the quarter note beat throughout the whole piece of music
I wish I had paid more attention earlier to this.
I’m a HS junior preparing for college and my tempo skills don’t reflect where I should be
I kept moving my head inline with the rhythms and I nearly had a cramp when the 1/8 note was played.
duntss dun tss kmpptss
I was looking for such video. Thank you so much. Appreciate it 🙏
Is it just me or does that drum behind the notes get a little off sometimes?
It's way behind.
It sounds like reggae because of it
Beckett Martin piano is behind
I have the note flight software which I paid a bundle for. and I found that sometimes it seem like the beats would speed up and slow down I figured out is was kind of an optical illusion. because when a bar line came up right before a note it appeared that the moving score would move faster than when it was just going from note to note.
that drum is dragging
Boy am I rusty lol... Made some mistakes! Haven't played in ages. Really appreciate this video. Thank you.
Thanks so much for this! I can understand now why I am so slow at sight-reading!
Merci beaucoup. These are the best videos for learning rhythm.
Yes. I was going to say. Those notes are different but they appear on the same line.
Been playing my instrument for four years and boy am I bad at counting
Same here but I was able to count most of it
Me toooooo
If you are bad on counting, the only thing that helps is counting.
This has cleared so many questions up in one shoet video! Thanks
Wow I’m better at counting than I thought. I really just have to work on playing the correct pitches
Xllnt lesson not seen such a wonderful lessons great going
Perfect! I can use this in my Music Class. Thank you!
This a great teacher stay focus!!!
musicwithnopain Here is a project for you: take a world-famous rock song and take the music theory apart so we can finally learn it in context.
This will definitely help me at solo and ensemble
great recommendation!...spreading musical literacy is key!
Exactly my type of lesson, definitely will practice with my virtual piano 😍💜
This lesson was quiet interesting.
I was introduced to more things
Wow this is wonderful! Thanks a lot for share this excellent exercises 👌🏼💖

Hello.
NOVAMENTE HOJE 20/2 QUERO PARABENIZAR ESTE PROFESSOR DE PARTITURA, GOSTEIMUITO VEJAM QUE ETE É O MELHOR MÉTODO PARA ENSINR O PAREDNIZ A DEFINIR E BATER NO TEMPO CERTO AS NOTAS MUSICAIS, ESTOU APRENDENDO MUITO - ESTE É DEDICADO E TEM DIDÁTICA DA PRÁTICA.
Excellent! Thank you so much for this great work, I know this will definitely help me to improve. More grease to your elbow. Once again thank you.
Easy to understand. Great
That was just plain fun! I ti ti'd and ta ta'd my way thru it all with a great deal of pleasure. I did the last couple two or three times to get a few of the more bizarre bars just right. My utterly non-musical wife came in while I was waving my arms which was kind of funny, but she now gets what conductors actually do, a thing she has always wondered. It was a blast!
Por qué cambia la nota si en la partitura siempre es la misma?
Me gusta mucho y muchísimo la cancion😀😃
Makes me love music again...thanks
I REALLY REALLY NEED THIS!!THANK YOUUUUU SOOOO MUCHHHH😍
Formidable vidéo. J'aime ça. Maintenant expliquer comment lire les accords sur les ligne et interligne
I learn so much better this way. THANK YOU!!!!🙏🏻

This is so helpful! Are there more complex ones available once I've mastered these...?
this was so much of fun
and I learnt an immense lot
very intuitive
easy to figur out what the symbols stood for.
even the 1 beat followed by
3 beat rest symbol was easy to figur.
Very nice All the videos it is very helpfull for me thanks for the update ..may God bless you and your family
finally i understand some basic symbols
Really helpful to someone just starting to read music in his 60s! Thanks.
I liked this sight reading exercise a lot. I would use it with my piano students. I think the chord changes make the exercise much more interesting and obviously make the rhythm the focus and not the note itself which is the second difficulty of sight reading
I should be practicing my spring concert music yet I'm here
I have been playing violin and piano since I was four why was this recommended to me lol
I just learned the rythm!! Thank you 🥰🥰🥰
Exactly what I was looking for, thank you!
ABSOLUTELY PERFECT FOR EDUCATION TO BEGINNNERS!!!!
I'm getting back into the game 20+ years later, and I needed this in my life...LOL! Thank you. I didn't do too bad either.
Thank you for the exercise. I am rhythmically challenged and any help I can get is appreciated.
Great basic video, its very difficult to find basic basic videos
Just starting out... After a while I was humming at the right time ♥
C’est une méthode efficace pour apprendre le rythme....excellent 👍🏻😊
Wow I love this video. I have never seen and learned so easy like this.
Thanks for sharing 👍.
Please make more videos!
Thanks, it's really suitable for practice
Merci bouceaup c est gentille . Exelent . Cours.
Very useful & informative, thank you. Will practice these
meu amigo professor divinamente é esta a melhor forma de entender os tempos e o rítimo para conseguir destravar a chave da musica, ESTOU APRENDENDO MUITO MIL PRA BENS PARA ESTE PROFESSOR ALTAMENTE DIDÁTICO NÃO PARA MEU AMIGO QUE NÃO CONHEÇO FISICAMENTE, FIQUEI CONHECENDO A SUA ÍNDOLE DE BENIGNITUDE PALMAS PALMAS PALMAS PARABENS OBRIGADO NÃO DEIXA DE POSTAR SEUS VÍDEOS. AGORA APRENDO.
It feels like it struggles with keeping a steady tempo, idk if it's just me
Oh my gosh this helped me so much with understanding how long each note lasts in a rhythm!!! Thank you!!! As I kept watching I was able to predict how it was timed before it played. Thank youuu!!!!
5:26
Why did I laugh here? lol so silly... I love you for this practice by the way. Thank you so very much.
Only E is better for beginner like me I ํdon t care the differance note or not. I just follow my finger follow the line to recognize the rhythms. Great job Bro !
Nice content! Keep it up!
Brilliant! Teach a man to fish, comes to mind. Thank you.
this is a wonderful resource. Helps me with the ukulele strumming as well.
