    This is a quick course on the basic rhythmic cells. Master them if you are thinking on learning a musical instrument with the traditional music notation.
    Take a drum, a box, a sauce pan and a stick and start drumming these rhythms until you master them.

    I know they are trynna make it more interesting, but it bothers me that the pitches are changing when the notes are just on E the whole time...

      Sharps or flats would be the same line but, it’s for simplicity I would imagine.

      I agree... For the purpose of displaying rhythm, they should’ve just placed notes on a single line and not within a staff... If this wasn’t a beginner tutorial it wouldn’t matter as an experienced player would understand what was being displayed here.

      Because most saucepans come mono-pitched. Whatever percussion instrument you are using is expected to only have one fixed pitch.

      Ok, that answer is hysterical! That said, it seems fair to say that, by temporarily taking pitch out of the equation, this lesson helps beginners concentrate exclusively on rhythm. For those new to reading music, focusing on one concept at a time can help remove distraction and thus increase retention of fundamental concepts. Thanks for creating this rhythmic overview!

      It was because the note was E, but the key gets higher just in the same key. Or lower.

    • @delstanley1349
      @delstanley1349 6 років тому +8

      +StayMused> Indeed, I wanted to concentrate JUST on the rhythm, and not pitch. Here's what I did after listening several times. I muted my sound and re-played the exercise and just followed the dancing bar. I sang "da" out loud for each note, (1) da-da-da-da/ (2) daaa (half note)-daaa (half note)/ (3)daaaaaaa /. That third "measure" is supposed to be a whole note! Like in the audio version I was still a little early when going to the next measure in some cases. I do have a problem with my mute method. I'm a music reading novice so I'm probably wrong when I say this, BUT I wish the video would pause the moving bar ON THE REST, and not stay on the prior note for the rest. Audibly it makes no difference, but visually it looks like the prior note is getting an extra beat. Of course this may be the conventional way, and I shouldn't be muting anyway.

    Why so many complaints about the notes all being on the same line and not reflecting the music- it's _obvious_ why from the title "basic rhythms" . To me it made perfect sense _not_ to show the melody, since then a beginner like me would be trying to follow the melody and the rhythm at the same time and end up doing neither.

      You do need to learn musical notation and musical rhythm as pertaining to this notation- something that is not innate but a way of communicating the concept of rhythm.

    For all those complaining of the changing pitch here are the notes you can with every page and it will fits with a few exceptions. The notes are taken from a traditional song I know as the Caribbean Sea Splash? (it may have a different name) which is based on this major chord progression: I, IV, I, V, I. If you play a concert flute or a recorder flute or bells or xylophone or any C concert key instrument you can use these pitches for every note in each measure (please note there's an exception in the 7th measure you will have to play 2 pitches divided evenly 2 beats for each) M1=E, M2=F, M3=D, M4=E, M5=G, M6=A M7=G+F, M8=E. If you play a Bb transposing instrument such as a clarinet or trumpet you can use these notes M1=F#, M2=G, M3=E, M4=F#, M5=A, M6=B M7=A+G, M8=F#. If you play a Eb transposing instrument such as alto saxophone you can use these notes M1=C#, M2=D, M3=B, M4=C# (don't touch any keys for that one - just blow), M5=E, M6=F# M7=E+D, M8=C#. if you play drums I would suggest to assign each pitch to one of your drums while kicking the bass drum on every 1st beat and hi-hat on every 3rd beat and hit the cymbal whenever you see a rest. Hope it helps!
