Mr. Mento!!! this video helped me so much🥹 I've been playing piano for a while now (self-taught) but never really learned how to read sheet music, and I tried learning with multiple youtube videos and I sometimes got confused. but watching this video made me not only truly know the basics but I also had fun learning them + in a memorable way. thank you so much! you helped me and so many others🫶🏽
I’m so happy this was helpful, thank you so much and good luck on your musical journey!!
@@thementozone So helpful for me too... Just like Danielle above, im a self taught as well, I did practice a lot through by myself through youtube videos and all, and never really know how to read sheet music, and alas!! I can do all the drills in the video in my first try(yess bassically after learning from the first part of the video)
Very true. It's really helped me too.
@@thementozoneWow!

This is what happens when you meet someone who not only knows what he is talking about, but can also convey to others is a very simple and intuitive way something that, taught incorrectly, can become a nightmare! I started learning keyboard this week and this video dropped my jaw to the ground! Awesome.
Someone said if you cant explain something to a 10 year old, you havent understood it yet
Thank you so much! I’m so happy this was a useful resource to you
It’s truly helpful 😊
@@thementozone ive watched many vids on counting music i was left with more question, but your video is so amazing youve simplfied precise enough to ingest everything in i love th eactive exercises too
Thank you so much for saying what I wanted to convey! ❤ This is the best basic rhythm course I've found so far. Best 8 minutes of my life. :)
From a person who never understood how to count rhythms like this, thank you so much!
Hi all! Thank you so much for finding this video. As a small town music teacher who made these for fun during the pandemic, I’m blown away by how helpful this one in particular seems to be for people, and I am so grateful for your support. I don’t have a lot of time to make videos being a teacher and all, but please let me know what else you’d like to see on this channel, and I’ll try to get to it when I can :) mahalo!
PLEASE DO MORE OF THESE!!! I have been trying to learn to read music for more years than I care to admit! (Flute/tin whistle - I can play when I hear someone else play a piece)This was the first little piece that I really understood!!! There as SO MANY MORE notes just DYING to be explained in this way!!! You're so clear and fun to listen to!!! Please consider doing more of these! THANK YOU! Bree

I love this video very much. for so many years, I never understood this thing right from my primary days till today. But now i think I'm heading somewhere. I can boldly say I've found the right thing. My only problem was i think the video was too fast. but its okay. may be your next videos should be slower than this. Can you help with reading these things on the bass clef?
Hi Mr. Mento, I play guitar, drum and piano but I don't know how to read notes. It is alway difficult for me. Now I can see it is easy to learn from you because you know how to teach people. Thank you so much. Wonderful video

The way I've struggled to understand sheet music since I was 7 but learned how to read it in a matter of 8 minutes with this video is insane to me. Thank you sooo much
My recorder class LOVED this video!! You helped get them keep a beat in no time. So clear, concise and fun!
I am 32 years old and thought I was completely without rhythm. This video taught me there might be some hope yet!
Well it was quite hard fir a 72 year old but still interested with music. Thanks.
The world needs more teachers like you. Please continue to make more of your good teaching videos! The world needs you. Thank you!
My child (8yrs) is learning to read notes and rest in school during music class and she enjoyed your video. She especially loved the “drill time”
Thank you
After watching this, I've come to the conclusion that I'm stupid.
You're not stupid, you just have to push yourself. 24 hours of pushing myself. I now understand please don't underestimate yourself. I have more faith in you then you do yourself
You and me bro
Your not stupid, this is just highly complex knowledge that's it, if you keep going to understand you will understand some people process faster I promised then once you do understand you will realize what im saying. Nothing Is to difficult for us our perception shows us difficulties, what does our perception know Nothing half the time it gets us in trouble forget your perception. Listen to yourself deep inside that's your conscience it's knows best
Bro same
Attention all people. This is a public person service announcement. None of you are stupid, you're not. Please quit calling yourself that This field is quite cumbersome to comprehend. Not everybody will pick it up like that. Everybody please don't call yourself stupid please You just have to stand app more time with it. Everybody has their own intake process please don't stop calling yourselves stupid please
i’m joining band as a junior and know JACK about anything. usually youtube videos i watch i tend to get bored with but this keeps me really engaged.
I knew absolutely nothing about rhythim but needed to know this time signature of 4/4 as it is the focus of most of the class. Thanks for the helpful, easy introduction into this.
I am a super skeptic, who never accepts anything easily. But this video man, this is the standard that everyone should follow. Such an amazing lesson, in a very interactive way, no nonsense just pure mentoring. Kudos to your effort. You got one more subscriber. ❤️
I’m a little rusty and this was a great refresher for rhythms and counting! I’m playing in an ensemble again and learning to count rhythms in music after years of not playing is a challenge.
Wow! Great editing job and I really appreciate your humor. The world needs more teachers like you.
this guy teaches better than my music teacher fr
I'm sure this is very helpful for someone like me who is keen on learning the language of music. Thank you sir
I have been relearning music after over 20 years of not playing, and getting the hang of counting beats and rhythm has been a struggle. This was an immensely helpful breakdown and exercise! Thank you!
Wow! At last, someone who can actually teach …and make brilliant videos. Rare indeed.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED this video! It was actually fun to practice with the the background music that match the pulses. I was moving my head to the beat without realizing, which helped me count.
Keep the great job!
Please dont stop making videos. I truly believe you are the only person who can teach me music
I am Thrilled that you are doing this! I know how to read. But, too many now don't. I wish you much success! 🕯️
Im pursuing Theological studies and by next year I'll start learning music but i don't even have any basic knowledge about music, yet i learned today through this channel ,some basic notes♥️.. Thank you so much
Could you please make more videos explaining rhythm? I think this is the best video I’ve come across, thank you!
This video was ungodly amounts of fun. Pure joy
I’ve been in bands and I’ve been in music on and off since I was a child, and somehow you made this more simple for my neurodivergent ass to understand more than anyone ever did. Thank you.
Very basic elementary tutor for beginners like me. Excellent delivery on the subject of Time signature. Now I have an idea how it works. 👍

Tysm for this video! Just started learning guitar and figured I ought to try and read sheet music as well. This is super helpful and way more digestible than most other music videos I've seen. Thank you!
As a beginner piano player this is very helpful. Now to understand the timing of faster notes like eighths and sixteenths.
very fun and covers alot quickly! ive just finished my GCSE music exam and going onto donut for a level since I know I got a 9 but I need to step up and finally learn how to sight read and sight sing, so thank you for your very digestible video, it gives me the confidence that I will be able to sight read well by the end of the holiday ❤
Brilliant tutorial! I just can’t do it. But nothing comes naturally without practice. Thanks so much for this.
Love it first time playing drums!
Thank you!!!! Now I finally know how to count the beats.
as someone who struggles rhythm , this actually helped me.. thank you so much
I loved it, I'll save this video and practice every day. I hope you'll make some more like this.

His a good teacher. I Understand so quickly....I will subscribe and write down those rhythms.
It was really helpful for me specifically, because this is the second month of my college going on, and I'm getting difficulty with vocal theory a lot.
This was very helpful👍😊 The way you present it makes easier to understand. Thank you👍
Excellent! Got tongue-tied several times but unraveled it and carried on. Great teaching!
There are thousands of thousands of UA-cam videos about this and this one was the only one I understood! Thanks for training us in the best way ❤❤
You did a GREAT job! Your presentation was clearly explained with really good examples. I just subbed, I look forward to more great examples like this one!

Very nice review for Music Theory Class. Thanks!
I have been reading music for years as an amateur choral singer but NEVER got a true grip on timings. This video is a REVELATION! Thank you, thank you.
I have been looking for this long ago, I finally met this today. Thanks you are a good teacher
I am a beginner, so the tutorisl came in very handy. Brilliant snd super explanation. Keep it up. Thank u Sir.
This is such an amazing video! Makes me sad there's no advanced rhythms version of this
Regardless the extending the counting exercise is a life saver
Been playing by ear for 40 years, I can play most things after one listen, but only this week have decided to finally learn reading music, this video was really helpful. Thank you.
A terrific learning tool. Thank you so much. This tool will help me do a better job at signing hymns at church services.
Thanks for these. Please do the other time signatures and odd times. Thanks
Waitt, I laughed when brett popped out 😂
Your comment appeared when Brett popped out 😂😂😂
You’re an A1 music teacher.
Love the way you are explained everything.
Please keep your videos this your way of teaching music.
Blessings.
Never learned music but played it for 30+ years - sheet music itself remained a mystery as I play from chord charts instead. Great start thanks. Need to rest my geriatric brain now.
How about all eighth notes with a few sixteenth notes tied with them 😈 (nah that rhythm is hard)
Working on it! Though it will probably take 20 or so of these videos until the rhythms are challenging to you!
Very good video! Well explained... Background 🎵🎶🎵🎶 music annoying! Best without it! Just do the lessons!!!
The background music is good because it actually teaches you how to maintain focus while an alternative rhythm is going on around you. You’ll almost never get a piece where everyone is playing the exact same rhythm for the whole piece. Even if you’re playing a solo, accompaniment will play a different rhythm. I know it’s hard but you’ll get it with practice! -I’m a musician who’s been playing for 20 years btw
This has been a good reminder for me. I knew the notes for quite a while but had forgotten the rests. Thank!
Im so proud of myself omg 😭 thanks for teaching me the basics dude!
Thanks for sharing, so very helpful to me cause I'm 1year in choir/Cantor but I don't know how to read notes .I'm so grateful while I'm scrolling in youtube i found this video now I can practice all by myself following this video.
excellent video, you know its good when 2 years later people are still being helped by it. You're doing good work, buddy!
Hello, just stumbled upon your video and it helps a LOOOT! Thank you!

this was so helpful!! i havent even gotten a drum kit yet but i was reviewing how to do it to determine whether i should buy one. I stumbled across this and you made it look so easy. I've now decided i'm going to buy a drumkit. thank you so much :))

Simply brilliant, knowing and conveying.
Great lesson. Brilliant way to explain it. I just subscribed, I wish you had more videos, especially one on 8th and 16th note rhythms.
this should be awarded as the best video on youtube 👏
Your explanation makes
it simple. Thanks a lot.

Best teacher ever!!!❤🎉 God bless you!
dude this is the BEST video on notation. THANK YOU!
Bravo. Outstanding job. Thank you.
You sir, are the definition of a good teacher.
I had a hard time with rhythmic dictation in school. I managed to pass, however. Our instructor had *a little mercy* on us. As long as we got the values correct, the *names* of tempos weren't factored in as high. (Whew) Guitar, trombone, trumpet, singing the FIRST thing I learned is how to friggin *Count.*
This was really fun! It was great to refresh the basics. Thank you bro!
Now I need to slap bass!
Thanks for the lucid explanation!! Very helpful.
This is so good
I've never got around to understanding notes counting well. This helped me so much!
Thanks!!!
This was SO helpful, well explained and good learning sections. Thank you so much!
Istg if I could hug u rn for how much you've taught I legit would!! Thankyou so much for this!!!
