Personally prefer Fiio devices, SD expandable up to 2TB, they can play far more types of audio files. But, all said, it ends at the reasons are the same, having portable offline music with nice high quality and as little else as possible, it's based on a smart phone in so many ways yet is the polar opposite. Only have the M3K so far but having a taste of hifi for so cheap (70 bucks), I'm going to get an M9 which is amusingly comparable in some ways to that iPod... go figure having seperate devices is cool again
@@MarHTy pure-audio devices use higher quality parts to make the audio, while sure you could just use a cheap android phone if you got a chance to compair both threw decent headphones you'd probably hear a lot more detail in some music that had been hidden behind the limitations of whatever you were using before. But that really depends on your hearing, if your ears arn't sensitive enough to pick out and enjoy the difference it probably doesn't matter then.
This episode is extra special right now, since they discontinued it. You literally gave me a lot to think about. No incoming messages or calls are actually amazing. Looking on a refurbished website right now.
I've been wanting an iPhone for a while, but never actually got through with getting one because it's a few hundred bucks and I got zero use for it. I use my phone for music in my car and that's all I need, I stream all my music so ipod touch being offline is kinda more of a negative thing than positive in my case, unless I download all my favorite music to put on it which wouldn't be so bad I guess.

Uncollapsible Australians really speak the same language as Southerners from the US. Our nah is just naw. It’s scary how language can jump oceans like that.
The iphone was AT&T exclusive in the states for awhile so I think originally the ipod touch was a great way to have the iphone experience disconnected from a phone plan. It was also a way to give kids/young teens an iphone-like device without actually going all inbon the cellphone (now tablets/ipads are more a thing). It was quite awhile into the cellphone era that ‘getting first cellphone’ became a milestone event.
8bit phoenix actually it doesn’t break that much on falls ( I own two gen 6 ) but the battery will probably destroy it before wear and tear. And the battery busted means the device is done for.
You have to give credit to apple for pushing the tech industry forward. Apple invented: A colour monitor, A (home) computer with a GUI And mouse support, Easily buying music and stopping piracy for sometime, The click wheel which made scrolling through thousands of songs incredible fast and easy and also making a device which can browse the internet and take phone calls at the same time.
I still remember when the first iPod Touch was called The iTouch. Digging through my junk drawer, I found my "old" iPod Touch 5th gen and booted it up after.... 8 years of stasis. Little goober still holds a charge and had all my old games and videos. I found myself happily passing time with it, not realizing how much less stressed I was vs using my phone lol.
the ipod touch is amazing for even more than you said here, "its the iphone without the phone" part was perfectly describing it, i think most people choose the classic over the touch for that reason however, the charm, nostalgia (and of course the PRICE) makes people want to go to the classic and save the games and streaming services for their phone instead.
What is it about Apple that you hate? I don’t get why people trash on stuff for no reason. When people say it’s overpriced garbage, I don’t see any other devices from the mid 2000s that are still usable. If you just prefer Android fair enough. I prefer much prefer windows but use a Mac because I was sick of having to maintain or upgrade a PC
Andrew Sine fair enough, people just get so aggro for either side. Yeah it’s only small maintenance every so often unless you let it build up, but tbh I much prefer a computer that I don’t need to think about until I get a new one. It’s all personal pref no need for war
@@ryleypalmer that's what I'm saying I like android and windows some people like iphones and mac's but theres such an unneeded war honestly I only like android for customization that's really it
I heard a story that when Steve Jobs was handed the original "Ipod" he threw it in his office fish tank and then pointed out to the designers all the air was escaping and that the design could be more compact. Honestly don't know if this is true or not.
You had me break out my old Ipod Touch (5th Gen) from the bottom of the bag after seeing this video. Ever since quarantine started, I haven't used it -- and it was my babysitter (well, babysitting ME hahaha) for the past six years. :)
I saved up and had an actual iPhone, and lots of ppl in my school with iTouches would tell me "well mine is just as good as long as I'm in wifi and have Skype, cos Skype calls real numbers" and it was like,, well so can my laptop, but my laptop isn't a phone, lol
AKA child's first phone. I actually got one of these for my like 9th birthday, it was one of the later generations (it got iOS 7 and more). I called it my "phone" pretty much until I got an actual phone like 2-3 years later. To be fair, I was fairly justified in that description, since I pretty much exclusively used it to FaceTime my friends (I'd use FaceTime audio only so that I could really sell the "phone" aspect), watch UA-cam, and play games.
It's because of the personality that he gives. It's funny and its goofy and silly, but he adds real personality to the seriousness and the facts. He explains the actual information in an easy and understanding way, but one that is interesting and fun to watch.
32GB is too low for the cheapest, 64 would be perfect but the 128GB model is a nice modern private content player 👍 256GB one is pretty friggin expensive
Maybe from Apple, but many other DAPs are being made by various companies, and sound much better and have support for more music file types like DSD and MQA and higher audio resolutions. Plus they tend to have dedicated play/pause/skip/back buttons in addition to the touch screen.
Oleg I don't really think audiophile grade audio is important for portable players, considering I can't hear the difference between crusty lowest quality music on Spotify and FLACs over all the background noise that comes from having to use headphones that let through noise so I don't get run over by a car I didn't notice.
@@Robbity Yea that's about as long as mine lasts... I took it in to the apple store for a diagnostic and they said it's running at 100% optimization/capacity or whatever... so I will probably buy a small battery pack with a pouch and keep it all together! it does charge SUPER fast which is nice :-)

@@illford because they can do just as much as the new ones. Like the Galaxy S7 and the Edge are still popular to this day, still just as functional and useful to this day. Pixel 2, not that old, but if you ask me, probably the best one other than the 3a. Here's hoping the 5 isn't as disappointing as the 4. Basically all OnePlus phones are still great to this day. The 5t will officially get Android 10, and the 6 and 6t are still the bomb. The 7, 7t, and their pro versions are all awesome and will continue to be for years to come. The 8 and the 8 pro were a disappointment if you ask me... But most anyone can only get incremental upgrades right now with the slower rate tech is moving at.

I get that you're happy where you are, but it's not that hard to find a great upgrade these days. The Note 9 is still $300 I think, and that was the perfect phone of that year, minus the price at the time. The pixel 4a and 3a are still smooth, and plenty fast, and cheap. Sometimes you just have to move on.
Pour one out for the nugget with the touch screen, boys. Apple announced it's getting discontinued today, leaving a bittersweet taste in the mouths of many who were hoping for one more refresh!

My mom bought one of these for herself! I was SHOCKED at how thin it was. I thought it was a great little thing! Fit all her music on there flawlessly. I'm big into protection, so I bought her a clear-back case (she's rocking gold too and wanted to make sure she can still see it), a screen protector, and a cute little pouch. I'm big into this idea!

Your personality is electrifying, it's like I'm sitting down with a friend I haven't gotten to see for a year, I always feel refreshed. Thank you Mr. DankPods, (if that's even your real name).
Same! I want an iPod Classic or video now lmao and if my new pixel 4a runs out of storage (unlikely though, 128 gb) I might just get a 2019 iPod touch. Btw I like how you say "if that's even your real name", when clearly it's not really a viable last name xD
I come back to this video every now and then, but this video is an excellent example of: 'People don't know what they want'. Dank going over what everyone wanted in a 'classic' music player for the modern-day, the iPod Touch meets all those requirements, and there's still going to be people out their snubbing their noses at it, even though it's everything you asked for.
The thing i love about the classic 'iPod' it's the magic when you're listening you're music. I take my 3rd gen ipod and it's just amazing, and i really enjoy the old games to be honest. I 100% recommend this channel, and it's the one i'm most aware of not losing any video. Good luck, and thanks for the experience.
A musician… an artist… telling us what is proper from his perspective on everything from musical storage devices to audiophile setups to headphones is definitely proper… m8 does us proud and I swear most people shove listening to his input on common ground things we all like including him
This honestly is awesome. Making me want this setup so bad. I’d be interested to see how inbuilt DAC compares to the iPod Classic or even something like a Dragonfly Black.
Eletronics enthusiast here! From the tehnical side of things the DAC's in almost all devices perform the same. They have the same characteristics and the differences between them if any are too minor to notice. Now if we talk about output amps I can say that they perform differently and sound differently according to what the manufacturer wants. But often they use a flat output that again just doesn't sound that different. The biggest difference in sound that I find is with different speakers or iems that I might use, makes sense because these are made to sound differently. Looking at this from a audiophile perspective I can say that I find differences in different devices only if I know that I am listening to a particular device. If it is a blind test I can't hear a difference. Makes me question my mind when comparing a Shanling to a Ipod. Both sound amazing.
Same here die hard android user (favorite is the pixels I have a 3 now) but now I'm just looking for a good financing plan for it selecting dingus etching and ordering it
The only issue with the new "ipod classic" touch... I would imagine the battery will die alot quicker than the original classic. At least my ipod touch did... after about 6 months of use it was dying really quick.

600mb for spirited away which is 2h long, how? what resolution? I remmember having 30min anime episode at 720p being 300mb, it's clean though even if I fullscreen it on a 1080p monitor.
I love and still use my 160 GB iPod classic 7th generation mp3 player (as well as my 120 GB iPod classic) and I transferred hundreds of CD albums onto it (and bought the odd album or song on iTunes too several years ago). :)
I remember my first iPod touch I got back in 2011. It was the perfect device for middle schoolers who didn't have an iPhone/smartphone and had to carry around both an iPod Touch and a regular cell phone. Crazy how things have changed in the years for this to essentially be "classic" now, I wonder how long until these start being collectors items.
I absolutely loved my 5c. It was by far my favorite divine I’ve ever owned. That also might be because of the wow factor of my first phone and the nostalgia factor. Then it shattered and the camera popped out and then it eventually broke in like 5 pieces. (Long story)
IT looks like and old ass iphone which is exactly what it literally is.If you wanna an offline device just get a second phone and don't put a sim card in it *rolls eyes*
Dark For what it’s worth, I got one recently and I love it. I wanted to try iOS on a phone sized device, and I wanted to replace my 7th gen iPod Nano. It’s quite speedy, and I like the design. Tbh I think I’ll get an iPhone when my Samsung goes, this iPod blows my Samsung out of the water even though my Samsung has 3 times the RAM, and a newer processor. Now, my Samsung has been reduced to pretty much calling and texting only. I really like how the touch looks, I like the colour and the size. I wish I could just throw a SIM card in here, but oh well. So imo, the iPod does have a reason to exist, but I think it should stay in the “music” section of Apple’s website, as I’m aware it’s kind of a niche device.
@@Andrew982_ the slowdowns are likely due to you installing all kings of crap on that samsuck device. An oldass iphone 6 (what your ipod is) should not be faster than any new device, even if it's a samsuck, which is actually a pretty bad android device. Only a custom unofficial rom could maybe save that one. I have nothing against niche devices.. I mean I wish they would still make the pocket pc, make the screen bigger, make device thinner, but keep it a pocket pc, keep the stylus, keep windows mobile the pc style, don't try to make it smartphone style, with big ui elements. keep the dpad and the four buttons on the bottom because these are used to play the games.. I really loved these device.. but the problem here with ipod touch is that it looks exactly like iphone and works like one too, this in my opinion isn't ipod, it's an old iPhone without the phone, sold as new.
Dark I actually like the design and size of the Touch, if apple rereleased the same Touch but with an A12 and a little more RAM and SIM support for like $250 I’d buy it in a heartbeat. I love the design and size of this thing.

Sorry for not getting it. But why not just a cheap android phone, without a simcard in it?

@@MarHTy pure-audio devices use higher quality parts to make the audio, while sure you could just use a cheap android phone if you got a chance to compair both threw decent headphones you'd probably hear a lot more detail in some music that had been hidden behind the limitations of whatever you were using before.

6:43 basically dankpods saying “engravings gives you no tactical advantages whatsoever. But that was some fancy iPod. You’re pretty good”
Rip iPod touch you will be missed
“Shoot noise out of its hole” is now how I will describe music coming out of headphone jacks.
Anybody making those videos like “why does the iPod touch still exist?” Need to watch this dude. Hell, I WANT TO UPGRADE FROM MY 5th gen touch now!
IT looks like and old ass iphone which is exactly what it literally is.If you wanna an offline device just get a second phone and don't put a sim card in it *rolls eyes*
Dark don’t be bad for iPod touch
I got diagnosed with Covid-19 so during my quarantine I’m gonna binge all your videos again🙌🏻🙌🏻
Get better soon :)
