Tony Stark to Scott Lang: "Please tell me your plan to save the universe is not based on Back to the Future..."
Cut to Tony wearing a disguise and stalking his past self during an iconic adventure from a previous movie, trying to steal an important object only for the plan to go wrong and he has to go even further back in time to fix it and accidentally befriends his father at his own age.

Yes... The Frisbee did infact originate from the Frisbie Pie Company in 1871, people would throw the empty pie tins to eachother for fun after finishing a pie, and then over the years it got rebranded and renamed several times before the Wham-O toy company landed on what we know to be a Frisbee today 👍

Due to the events in all three films, a total of four DeLoreans existed at the same time in 1955: the first in 1955 Doc's lab (taking place during the events of the first film), the second hidden somewhere by 2015 Biff after stealing the DeLorean in 2015, the third used by Doc and Marty to travel to 1955 and undo the changes caused by 2015 Biff, and the fourth hidden in the mine after Doc is transported to 1885.

Which then makes one ask why they didn't just syphon the gas out of the one Doc came back in, and leave it in the mine shaft with an empty tank. Then when Marty gets it out in 1955, there will be plenty of gas stations around.

Technically the one in the mine doesn’t manifest until after doc gets hit by lighting. So, the max total at one time would be 3, as old Biff leaves 1955 before Doc gets sent to 1985.

By allowing its character to change the past, Back to the Future distances itself from the predestination paradox, which is what the Terminator films are based on. So, for example, 1955 originally passed without Marty arriving from the future. The altered 1955 originally passed without Biff arriving from 2015, and even that originally passed without Doc and Marty coming back to fix it. Marty was even told not to interfere with the handoff of the Almanac, just to make sure that Biff would go back to 2015. Therefore, it is highly likely that Biff had already gone back to 2015 by the time Doc and the DeLorean were stuck by lightning, and it wasn't until that moment that the 1885 DeLorean would have been left in the cave. So we can only be sure of 3 DeLoreans being in 1955 simultaneously.

    • @NZBigfoot
      @NZBigfoot Рік тому +3

I was thinking the same, and I hadnt really thought of it in the 30 years prior... thing is, the photo was attached to Marty, who was unfixed in time due to the fact he could time travel, while the subject of the photo, the tombstone wasnt and could change... if that makes sense. You could also say that like with the other films and the first one with the photo of his siblings the changes where catching up in real time and would have to go backwards to catch up with Marty once they reach their future points, so the Tombstone vanishes first since the changes to it eventually arrived in 1955, but the photo itself was still in 1885 so it would take a while for the change in the 'reason' of the photo to arrive from 55 back to 1885, BUT considering Marty then went quickly back to 1985 the changes for the Photo would have to do a u turn again and head back to the future/present where Marty finally stopped...
So id say at some point after Marty arrives back in 1985 the Photo simply disappears entirely... i mean the changes are all ripples and ripples take a while to get places. its all very complicated, but when you think about it hard enough its amazing how good the movies are at the temporal stuff.

    • @michaelklaus
      @michaelklaus Рік тому

@Latest Obssesion I think you mean a closed loop. Any time travel (EDIT: into the past, of course) already creates a time loop. Btu you decscribe that the events always play out the same which is a closed temporal loop. Which is in turn an ontological paradox.
What Doc Brow says in part 2 about paradoxes became the most widely accepted misconception I ever came across.
An ontological paradox (seemingly) logical contradiction between the two assumptions that people have free will and that time travel was possible. It is resolved by understanding that Doc could not help but involve Marty in the time travel every time... or in other words deny Doc the ability to freely choose not to become friends with Marty.
But obviously Gale and Zemeckis show little to no understanding to time travel in the writing.
The movies actually discuss the other type of paradoxes: causal paradoxes. These are a (seemingly) contradiction between the assumptions that time was a strict progression of cause to effect, a causal chain of events. Every deduction we make about the world and the universe before man existed is based on this assumption.
In the first movie Marty shoves George off the street which alters the causal chain of events. But instead of the fantastical and existential repercussions Gale and Zemeckis wrote into part 2 the universe is rather fine with a timeline that is inconsistent, in which a nonexistent teenager breaks off George and Lorraine before they met. Because the paradox was immediately resolved with the realization that time can be rewritten and throwing causal determinism out the window... or in front of a car.
Time travel stories that try to mix and match both usually end up rather... stupid. Or rather the better time travel stories only use either concept. Because in an obviously ever changing timeline ontological paradoxes cannot be explained without reverting back to metaphysical fate.
Which seems like the thing you did here.
There are of course two more scientific approaches to solve either of the types of paradoxes: Everett's many worlds (applied to time travel instead of quantum physics) and Novikov's self-consistency principle. Both of which are also often used in time travel stories and usually go especially sideways when mixed. Only a few years back writer Jantje Friese created a piece that allows to apply both - without ever using their names, interestingly.

The question about Doc and Marty's friendship is a temporal paradox called causal loop. Basically, Marty's goes to Doc in the past and tells him about their friendship and the time travel stuff. This in turn means that Doc is now obligated to find Marty and befriend him. Once that happens, he plays it all out the same to continue the loop. He probably was too afraid to change anything including the terrorist group situation for fear that it would change something else. I know he seemed to not care later when he saved his own life and said, "what the hell". I think he knew that if he lived it wouldn't matter. He already lost family fortune, has one friend, and no relatives. He could time travel for the rest of his life and not affect the future at all.

I honestly couldn't help smiling while you watch my favorite movie trilogy. Speaking of movie trilogies, Lord Of The Rings needs to be next (do the extended versions they are VERY long but so worth it). That will cover a lot of weeks of content! Can't wait!

The extended versions are great, but I think its a mistake for anyone to watch them for their first watching of the trilogy. That's a bit of a pet peeve I have with reaction videos. It seems more often than not, when someone reacts to an extended version of an absolutely perfect movie, they usually have small nitpicks that all relate to the added content. LotR is no exception. Like I said, extended/exotic cuts are great, but I feel like the vast majority of the time, they are better kept for subsequent viewings of a movie you already love.

4:00 - When it comes to the Japan comment, keep in mind, this is in 1955, just 10 years after World War II ended.
It took a while for many people's thoughts of the Japan to improve (they did bomb Pearl Harbor and bring us into WWII). My speculation when Doc said "Unbelievable" to Marty's comment that "all the best stuff comes from Japan", Doc probably realized that USA and Japan relations had majorly improved over 30 years by the 1980s. Doc also probably realized that many technological advances might have come with the help of Japan was well.
20:31 - Given the choice with the love of my life, I'd want to go back to my present day at the very least, but I'd ask if she wanted to come live with me in the future. I mean, if somebody lived in the late 1880's and had the chance to go to 2020 or later, live in and see a future they would never able able to live in. Plus, if you had found out about them before you went back and they had normally died a short time later, you'd also be saving their life. If they had no family left, they probably would as there'd be nothing left for them there.
31:10 - It's pretty obvious how Marty and Doc became friends. Doc sought out Marty because he knew he HAD TO as he'd already done it. The fact that the 1955 Doc Brown had encountered not 1 but 2 Marties from the future (both traveled to the same year and day but from different years), Doc would have no choice but to find a way to befriend Marty. If doc failed to do this, it would most likely result in a time paradox.
Alex, you have to think 4th dimentionally. :D

As the creators said for the first movie, Doc Brown would have been this weird guy with a crazy reputation, all sort of gossip going around like Strickland saying he's dangerous, and kids like Marty would get curious and want to know for sure if Doc is that crazy. Marty would go check and they eventually became friends.

I think it's implied that Marty knows a thing or two about electronics himself so I think that may be how he ended up being friends with Doc.

Notice how Sheriff Strickland wasn't in the scene at the end arresting Mad Dog Tannen? That's cuz in a deleted scene, Tannen shot and killed the Sheriff. as he dies he tells his son to uphold the rules and law. This apparently passes on through the family and this is why Principal Strickland in part 1 is the way he is.
There are two variations on how Marty and Doc met. Bob Gale (co-writer) said this about the whole thing: Growing up Marty had heard many stories about Doc. That he was dangerous, a lunatic. So he wanted to find out for himself. Marty sneaked into Doc's garage and became fascinated by all the stuff he had there. Doc caught Marty in the garage but because he noticed Marty was fascinated by what he saw he instead gave Marty a job as his assistant. They eventually discovered they had a lot in common and their friendship grew from there.
The 2nd version of the story is referred to taking place in Timeline 2. the creation of this timeline has something to do with the letter Marty wrote to Doc in part 1. Then Doc somehow trying to send it to the future which caused the Brown mansion to burn down. In this story, Needles forces Marty to steel an interocitor tube from Doc's garage. seems Doc bought out all the interocitors at the store, so Marty has to no choice but to break into Doc's garage. in order to get in, Marty passes through a series of traps Doc has set up. Once inside, he runs into Doc who asks him if he's there for the assistant job. Marty lies and says yes but admits right away the truth. Doc then admits he never put a want ad for an assistant but still hires Marty. Turns out Doc only needed the box the interocitors were in, he threw them in the trash. So marty grabs one and takes it to Needles. Needles gets scared that Doc might come after him if he finds out he has one, especially with all the rumors about him.

Yup, that was ZZ Top. The song that they were playing was an instrumental version of their song, "Doubleback". Their instruments have swivels on them, like they did in their "Legs" video. Another interesting fact is that when Marty's band was trying out, in the first movie, it was Huey Lewis, that was complaining that their band was too loud. Huey Lewis often appeared in his own music videos, so his face was pretty familiar to many at the time. It was his song, that they were performing.
This really is a perfect trilogy. In the first one, a sequel is teased, and though one wasn't planned at that point, we got one. However, by the second one, they truly were one a role, and at the end, you get the promise, "To be concluded", and you also get a trailer for the next one. The whole thing feels like a complete story, and it's fascinating to see how they got from the first one, to the last one. I enjoy all three films, and it's probably the only film series where if I start the first one, I have to see the next two in sequence.
A perfect trilogy Should feel like a complete story, without any of the chapters feeling like after thoughts. That's how I view this trilogy. It's always fun, and there's never a time, when watching these won't improve my mood. The whole thing feels more like Twilight Zone, than Science Fiction Theater, so even though one might get bogged down in the science, everything seems appropriate to the world which the series created. I consider it more fantasy than sci-fi, so it doesn't matter if their future doesn't match ours, Doc is really 13, or when the Cubs won the World Series. It was pretty cool when it happened, though.

I loved those movies (and still do). And it really blew my mind a few years ago, that at one point in 1955, there were 4 DeLoreans present in Hill Valley, at the same time.

7:09 that's quite the coincidence Marty happens to end up on Seamus's farm within the first few minutes in the Old West.
18:42 Marty's named after both of them.
19:21 Steampunk Breakfast machine is awesome and works alot better than the one from the opening of the first movie.

Yella, yellow, yellow-belly: a coward who would faint onto his back in the face of danger & pee himself, leaving his belly….yellow…..chickens are yellow, so, the two terms got mixed in together & synonymous with each other…this has been the linguistic anthropology minute….great series of reactions, thank u, sir.

2:25 Marty met Doc when Doc needed somebody cheap to help, so he hired Marty, about four years ish before BTTF. Marty stole something from Doc’s house when he was first hired, but they ended up becoming good friends.

The Doc's fictional home in the movie is actually the Gamble House located in Pasadena Cali. It was constructed for David Gamble the son of Proctor & Gamble founder James Gamble. The house is now owned by the city of Pasadena.

Honestly, the train engineer gets that one little scene, and he absolutely steals the show.

No idea if you still see these but there is a game that had Chris voicing Doc, Michael making a cameo in episodes 4 and 5 as Willie and the 30th anniversary edition has Tom voicing Biff. And Bob Gale helped with the storyline. It deals with Emmett as a teen. It's Back to the future the game

I'm not sure if anyone has already commented this, if so, my apologies: Robert Zemeckis (writer and director) and Bob Gale (writer) have made it clear that as long as they are alive, there will be no remake, reboot, sequel, prequel, or ANY addition to the existing story. They feel that it is perfect as it is and I agree. The only exception is a stage musical version of the first film.that they fully approved of.

Did you realise that Marty learned that "Bulletproof Vest" trick from the TV show in BTTF2 before he confronted Biff in his hotel?
