I'm glad you enjoyed In N Out. You seem to grasp what it is, a fast food burger but done about as well as a low cost fast food burger can be done. I've noticed that people who are disappointed by it usually had expectations that it would be something more than fast food.

It's simple, done well. No truffle oil. No fancy ingredients. It's a burger like you would have gotten 70 years ago with quality ingredients. Many people dislike the fries because they are used to ultra processed modern fries. In N out fries are simple. Fresh sliced there at the restaurant, fried and salted. Simple. Ask for crispier if that's what you want.

I think people miss the point when they just have an In n Out burger on the left and say, a Shake Shack burger on the right and come away with, “ I don’t get the hype” about In n Out.
Honestly the burger is great but America has a lot of great burgers that are comparable or better to some people’s tastes.
The popularity of In n Out is due to the quality, freshness, value, customer service, consistency, and cleanliness of their locations. I’d say a Shake Shack burger is just as good or even arguably 10-20% better but it’s 2-3x the cost and they don’t have the same level of service. Californians have a special place in their heart for In n Out because they’ve been so consistently good for decades, across nearly all their locations. It’s not because it’s the undisputed #1 burger in the world.
Also, you have to order off the secret menu and get Animal style fries. I can totally see why their standard fries would be underwhelming to some.

The experience of being able to theoretically go skiing and hang out at the beach on the same day is a classic LA vibe. People seriously underestimate the natural features in Southern California. JPL is super cool. For better or worse, it's not a coincidence that the TV show "Big Bang Theory" is set in Pasadena. It's a pretty "nerdy" place. Looking forward to seeing you do California again!

The reason In-n-Out is so popular in California is only because of the quality of the burger for the price you pay. If you ate the same exact burger in a normal sit down restaurant you wouldn’t think much of it (and maybe even consider the taste of the burger just alright), but because it’s coming from technically fast food, the burger is way better than what you would typically expect from a fast food place. It’s the convenience and the great price of the food (and the amount) you get that makes it so popular (and yeah the quality of the meat helps it too). And you’re right, it doesn’t matter the time of day - it can be 10 in the morning or 10 at night, there will always be a big ass line lol

California is like it's own country. It has beaches, mountains, rivers, forests, deserts, ect, and they're all a few hours drive from each other. Places in the future I suggest you visit: Newport Beach/Huntington Beach Pier (this is what tourists imagine California is like all over, "The OC"), Little Siagon in Orange County (many of the Vietnamese still have strong French influence in their restaurents and cuisine), Harwood Lodge (it's a Sierra Club huge cabin in the mountains. It's very affordably priced). The Queen Mary in Long Beach.

    Salut Cosmique fille Marie 👩‍🚀✨
LA welcomes another angel to it's shores.
Setting out , those Pastries looked as yummy as the ones back home. A beautiful little canyon , the streams so crystal clear & tranquil , the first ranger house was built not far from there by judge Benjamin Eaton who also the first to grow grapes along the slopes. You've found a wonderful haven there.
From what you showed , the JP lab exhibits looked amazing ,there doing great work pushing boundaries with robotics & sending out probes to further our understanding of the solar system , Juno sent back some impressive images of Jupiter cloud tops recently while exploring its moons. It's something special having a personal tour from Todd , what a generous guy with the tasty treat 🥧 cool posters & stuff, nevermind about their policy on not filming , we've been checking it out virtually online.
While driving out to Venice , the highways do have a reputation for being hectic with numerous car chases , where's ponch & getraek from chips when you need them , at least you'll weren't stuck in a jam & it didn't look like much smog. The beach's 🏖️ a fun hangout with its free spirited vibe , hopefully it's on its way back since they cleaned it up. Gold gym legendary where Arnie made his name along with huckmania , ultimate warrior & sting , there was a Mr & Mrs bodybuilder contest on muscle beach recently on the 4th. When you go back don't forget to give german in Venice a call he'll show around all the best spots with plenty of famous stories to tell. Glad you got to try a tasty 🍔 that wasn't from the usual chains, that changed your mind, you do have to be careful, good thing your particular 😋 . The beaches along with their sunsets are always so gorgeous , were all pleased that you've made more happy memories out there. Looking forward to you discovering more delights from the golden state & going back to great white north.
Take care & stay safe & watch out for that anti privacy bill 📱if your traveling around Paris , liking the animi poster. Thanks for everything Marie God bless 🤗 💕✌️

In-N-Out burger is an iconic burger joint. I had my first burger there in 1976, they keep the menu simple and the burger's are tasty. My son and I both live in southern California. When he was a little kid we always went to In-N-out. My son and his GF took a 2 week vacation to France in May and loved every minute of it. We were both saddened to see news reports of rioting. America had similar problems in the summer of 2020. We both pray that things settle down and return to normal soon.

Hi Marie!! I'm sorry this comment is late, but I finally am at my desk and was able to watch this entire fabulous and amazing California Marie Video 🥰! The first thing is that I was so excited to see your Super Space Intro for this video - Marie, that was fantastic, and then you mentioned it right away - you're right, it is special ("fantastic Keith and a paw of Harper") 💕❤!!! That was quite a change for you on your Rainy Pasadena day, so I am so glad you got a pretty day to show us here. I loved your pastry and coffee shop beginning, and then you found the lovely green small mountain landscape, and were able to film at Eaton Canyon, which was SO beautiful (& I Love seeing you in your western hat too 🤗🤗)! That was a really cool walking bridge over the canyon, with that pretty and rapid flowing stream you went by (you seemed like you were enjoying this so much - which always makes me so happy for Marie!). I also loved that you found those green hills before your amazing Todd-led JPL Tour - WOW 😲😊😍❗You sure did start with a bang by seeing the Europa Clipper that is planned for its Jupiter trip for October of next year - that was so cool for you to show us 🤗❣ I will next watch the "It's Quieter in the Twilight" movie documentary you so kindly linked us to!! (Marie, you gave us so many cool links, even to the Europa live - wow - Thank You so Much Marie for these extras on top of your wonderful video ❤) I saw the Charles Elachi Mission Control Center (He got his Physics and Engineering degrees from the University of Grenoble, France, and he was the director of the JPL 2001-2016)! Seeing the control room was so cool, with its "deep space network." I loved your JPL pin or medal and your Solar System Trading Card 🤗. We saw the planets from Mercury to Earth, "Our Cosmic Connection," cool Mars rover pictures on its surface, the Asteroid and Comets, and the Universe pictures, along with a Rover itself and the Juno and other Spacecrafts 😵😃!!! You know, you are quite a Colorful Infrared Young Lady, Marie 😍😇! WHAT A TOUR❣ I happen to love In-N-Out burgers (ate them with my sister out in California) and I am so excited you loved their "fast food," which is known to be extremely fresh, top quality beef (NEVER as good as your mom's ❤, but maybe as good as can be otherwise 😃)! Five Guys is a chain just like them (ranked #2), that you can try when you get to Austin 😉. Even their milkshake was really tasty - YAY! - and then Todd baked you that Key Lime Pie (which, by the way, is almost the same as the Lemon Pie Recipe I sent you that my grandmother always made 🥰) - I am SO glad you got to taste that (my second favorite after the lemon pie, lol 😉)! Your drive to and through L.A. showed the big city with big buildings and the Hollywood Sign too, along with that traffic accident (I LOVED your advice: "Life's short! Drive Safely" - YES - I always follow your advice and I'm sure you do too! 😇😃). You showed us the painted building on Pacific Avenue and a Red Marie Mustang - cool!! - and then took us to see beautiful Venice Beach, and even the pretty birds there!! With all that sand, I was happy to see you got the chance to draw with your foot again 💕. You even caught a guy hunting with a metal detector, and what in the world was that pretty dog carrying ?? 😃 The palms were beautiful on the green knoll with the big lamps, and you showed us a great picture of the U.S. and the California flags flying together 🤗. Those cycles were each a different color, and of course, you caught the California skate boarders 🛹. What a beautiful setting this was, and yes, the west coast has some nice, strong ocean waves crashing on those rocks! I thought it was pretty cool to watch that bird swoop down, land on the wet sand, and then proceed to outrun the incoming wave until it was on the dry sand, safe from the wave 🥰🥰. And the man with his dog in the water at sunset was such a nice moment to close with 💕. Wow, you even took in a UCONN vs S.D. STATE NCAA basketball championship matchup! Marie, you do so much wonderful work with these captivating videos of your trip that you gift to us, so thank you so very, very much for this amazing Cali video😇❣ I am looking forward to your Sea World video (and am loving your lenses from up north 😉), and in the meantime, please be safe and pretty please Take Care Marie 🙏❤🥰❣

Yes, In n Out is a fantastic fast food burger. It's not a complex gourmet experience... it is simple fare, done to a high standard, which is why French-trained chefs and Hollywood celebrities and regular people out here all enjoy In n Out.
The meat isn't frozen, and it's actual beef (not extruded whatever). The ingredients are fresh & taste like they are supposed to (which limits their geographic range to places where they can source the quality of ingredients on a daily basis). It's all done by hand when you order it. They put the senior people (the managers) on the grill, not the juniors, so the beef is cooked to a certain standard. The lettuce still has its crisp texture because it's made when you order. Same goes for the tomato, which (thanks to their ability to source quality tomatos) has the taste and texture that you expect from a tomato.
There are more amazing burgers out there, yes, but you have to appreciate the simplicity and the quality of the product. It's all those little things, done to a high standard, that make In n Out a very good experience.

I remember from your previous video how you drove from Sab Diego to Pasadena! I was windering wehy you went to Pasadena at all! So, now I see why, You had met online a guy who works at JPL. Well, I use to work at JPL also, the second half of the 70's and early 80's. I started right at the end of the Viking project, the first land rovers on Mars. The next project was the Voyager one, with two launches that are now both way outside our solar system. I, along with another half a dozen guys maintained the three mainframe computers at JPL.
I worked there for 7 years, and lived in a neighboring town called La Crescenta, 7 miles west of JPL. There was a new freeway that started from my exit to JPL, a 7 mile stretch of freeway that was always empty since it did no go thru yet past my exit. So, it took me about 10 minutes to get to work! Also, they inserted a gold disk in one of the Voyager spacecrafts, and it was built like a vinyl record, with groves, only it was made out of gold! On that they described where the Earth is, a lot about life on Earth, and the names of all the people that were involved with the Voyager project, so my name is floating out there in space!
So, it was great that you met up with Todd and were able to see some of JPL! I see you also went to In-n-Out Burger, which is great almost everywhere! We lived up the hillside at 1,800 feet, and near the bottom, on the main cross street, there was an In-n-Out Burger there. Back then, we saw them cut up the meat into burger, and cut and slice the potatoes for the French fries. I do not think that any of them prepare their own meat anymore. But they are VERY good burgers. My wife eats them like you, as you showed us, full of stuff, but I eat them plain - just the meat and cheese and bun. Also, we always get the Double Double - 2 meat patties and 2 slices of cheese. About 6 years ago I was in San Antonio, Texas, and their In-n-Out was terrible, but all the others I have been to have been outstanding.
My kids kind of grew up in LA, and we went to Disneyland 3-4 times a year on JPL nights, where it cost us just $6 a person for a full night of entertainment at Disneyland. We would leave at 1AM, and the kids would fall asleep immediately in the car on the way home. Also, I think the first Frisbee Golf park is right next to JPL in Pasadena, and we would go there often at lunch time and play 9 or 18 holes, if time permitted. So, I am surprised you when to Canada next. Why didn't you just stay in CA longer? And where in Canada did you go? To Montreal so you could speak French?
I also watched your videos down in San Diego, and we have been to the San Diego Zoo many times, and what you called the Safari Park, which use to be called the Wild Animal Park. It is huge, but too hilly and a bit difficult to get all around. We have taken the tram that goes all around, and that gives a nice perspective of the park. But the Park is in the middle of now where and the drive it not an easy one to get there either. I video taped the Cheetah run when I was there last about 5 years ago. Did you get to see it run? I am also waiting for your Sea World video! In LA they use to have a place called Marineland, right on the ocean, which had a very large tank 4 stories tall that housed to very large Killer whales - Orky & Gorky. But it shut down about 30 years or so ago.
Great short video here! I followed you all thru AZ, where I moved to in 2000 from CA, and I was familiar with a lot of the places you went. In fact, my brother, who now lives in Houston (previously lived in San Antonio), came out with his girl friend for a week visit in early June (on D-Day June 6 - and I have watched your VERY touching video on the US memorial site in Normandy), and we took them to the Grand Canyon, and 2 days later to Sedona. Sound familiar?

I'm glad you enjoyed JPL. I got to work with them on a couple of projects over the years, and it was always nice to see how enthusiastic the JPL engineers are about their work. I was used to all of the "space stuff" :) I saw there, but one of the things that surprised me about the JPL campus was leaving work in the evenings and seeing wild deer grazing on the lawn outside some of the buildings. I didn't expect to see that in Pasadena.

Fun stuff! JPL is amazing. Several years ago when my niece was studying Aerospace Engineering at Cal Poly Pomona, I'd always come up for the JPL Open House every year. It was always amazing to see what sort of new stuff they were working on. If you're ever back in "the valley" where Pasadena is, one thing you might enjoy checking out is Descanso Gardens in La Cañada just down the valley towards LA. It's a beautiful place, especially in the springtime like when you visited this year and all the flowers and trees are in full bloom

Nice video. I wondered what the surprise was going to be in Pasadena, which is also known for the Tournament of Roses Parade on Jan. 1 each year, but I know that couldn't be it in July. By the way, I think that bird you photographed on the beach was a Willet, a kind of sandpiper that usually is more inland, but it is possible. The large black and white pattern on its wings in flight and its huge size eliminate other sandpipers as far as I know. JPL sounds like an amazing place (I've been to the Air and Space Museum, and to Cape Kennedy Space Center in Florida). When you get back to California some day, you should consider going to see the coastal Redwoods at Muir Woods National Park and Redwoods National Park, and the giant sequoias, Yosemite Falls, Half Dome, El Capitan (mountains) and the Going to the Sun Highway. Lot more to see, of course And I do hope you get to Michigan one of these days. I'd be willing to be your tour guide here.

Yeah CA has some of the most variable terrain, and climates, beach, dessert, scrubland, forests, mountains, plains. And various combinations. Probably the biggest attraction to CA IMO.
People complain about the cost, but TX is just as expensive, its just more hidden costs there.
LA isn't about the downtown, though that can be fun, it is some of the different neighborhoods. And each really have their own feel.

I'm actually amazed how clear the Los Angelos sky was during your visit. For me, back in the 80's and 90's, the air was just a "haze" and the sky looked like a light gray/blueish color, and the entire city smelled awful (varnish, car exhaust, and an overall stale, grungy stink). Maybe they recently had some consistent rain to clear it up. That, and the traffic, were the primary reasons I ruled Los Angelos out as a future settlement for me back then.

We had a "40 days and 40 nights" winter tin California his year. From New Years Eve until the end of March, California was hit by 13 atmospheric rivers on succession, sometimes coming 2-3 in a row without a break in between. Massive flooding; levees broke; over ten meters of snowpack in some places. The reservoirs that had almost completely dried out over the last three-year drought all filled up so much that the water managers had to release a fair amount of rainwater to open up room, for fear that the snowmelt would overflow the dams. There were days that I feared the rain would never end :-(
That stream in Marie's video? It was almost certainly bone-dry last year.
