I was born in 1971 and learned to drive manual transmission when I was 12. I even took my driver's test at 16 in a stick shift. It's a good skill to have learned since other countries have them as rental cars. In 2006 I went to Ireland and there was not one car to rent that was automatic. Driving in the passenger side of the car and shifting with my left hand was super challenging and scary, but I survived 10 days of driving around the country. Good job most people in America can’t drive a standard shift anymore, that’s what I learned on in my 1965 VW bug, careful going on corners in that jeep don’t take corners too fast, any vehicle that sits up higher like that be careful. Time for you to rent a Mustang!, preferably a large V-8 manual shift. 😊

If I didn’t know you was from France and I was driving beside you and looked over at you I would have thought you was a country girl here in the south!!!! Have fun and enjoy yourself !!!!!
I've only been in France once, in 2015. It was Paris. On the way to the hotel, the cabbie actually drove his taxi on the *sidewalk.* Not for very long, just enough to sneak past one stop light, but I was in complete shock. I still had a great time, and I keep meaning to plan another trip. But the experience reaffirmed my decision to stick to public transit while in Europe! 😀
outstanding job Marie...... Phoenix is a tough drive anytime.... I have over 4.5 million miles accident free miles in my 40+ years of truck driving... Retired now... You done good younglady!
Glad you got to drive a Jeep! They are interesting animals. I have 2 of the currently and I love them. Though he really should have taken the doors of for you to get the full experience! Just remember, "Jeep hair, Don't Care!"
Either way, the car and the steering wheel reflect your ability to take responsibility and your self-confidence.Congratulation MARIE ,courageous girl you are...🤠🤠🤠
So very proud of you. Driving in a foreign country can be very daunting. You did fantastic! Fortunately, you have been driving on the right side of road already in France. Many foreigners complain about the lack of an extensive passenger train system to get around in the US. Part of the American lifestyle is the freedom to get in your car and explore. To stop anywhere you want anytime you want and enjoy the sites. Much of the US was built around the automotive industry. The cars, the tires, and of course our extensive (wide-laned) roads to enjoy all the beautiful sites. Now you know why we do not have that extensive passenger rail system. 🌵🎵❤
So Proud of you great job driving in the USA Marie 👏🏽 you make me laugh every time you see a Mustang I hope someday you get one and thanks for the music in your videos so Awesome
Mary, All I can tell you is relax and take your time... You drive a standard really well. But I recall you driving them before.. Good job lady!!! I am not shocked at all. You are a talented and intelligent woman. You are wonderful...... Stay curious and safe.....
Hoping the next video is of you driving a Mustang up to the Grand Canyon. You simply can't travel all the way to Arizona from Europe & not see/hike one of the most spectacular locations on the planet; you just can't. -- it's not allowed. The North Rim (of the Canyon) is my favorite spot, & is the most convenient to get to from Utah ( home to Zions, Bryce, Arches, & Canyonlands Nat'l Park's. -- just in case you have some extra time on your hands ).
Hey Marie! 🤗✨ I looooove driving manual transmission cars! It actually feels like "driving" instead of just "pointing" the car where you want to go. And yeah, rush-hour traffic is crazy and stressful pretty much in every large city in the US. You did great! 😃👍 And it's so nice to know you've gotten the chance to drive so much more here that you're now comfortable with it! I've got family in both CA and CO, and I have often driven the 1000+ mile (each way) trip. I love the scenery and spacious roadways too, regardless whether I drive the southern route (through NM and AZ), or the northern route (through UT and NV). Lots of beautiful stuff to see! This was a great video! Thank you!! 🥰 Looking forward to your next one! See you soon! xo 🤗💗
It was a caution with Jeeps to not sharply turn when even at a slow speed as it can trip over the turned front wheels and flip over, rear over front. Seen it happen more than once with a Jeep swerving to avoid a parallel vehicle crossing too close into its lane.
Good to see our Frenchfry having Fun in the Sun 😎 Stay Safe out their & I Am Happy to see you in A Place that is Not having Massive Protests !!! Like Button 🔘 has been Illuminated 😁👍👍🌞
Hi, elderly French here ! I'm blessed with my 2 sons. I would have loved to have a daughter like Marie . Although I do not know her I am very proud of her and the way she represents the enduring friendship of our 2 nations. America and France are friends and family.
You are having so much fun. Of course driving a lifted Jeep in Phoenix during rush out as your first time is tough. So happy you are enjoying your trip to our country. Best of luck and stay well girl. Thank you for another great video. 😄
I know what you mean when you say you were 'stressed'. Forty plus years ago I experienced the same stress driving in Germany for the first time. From Bremerhaven to Stuttgart my eyes never stopped looking for the 'Priority Road' yellow square and about 2o+ new traffic signs.. I learned the rules of the German road and drove in Europe for over 10 with no accidents. I did, however, have my photo taken, more than once. I hope you enjoy your time in the US as much as I did in Europe.
In 1973 my friend and I went in together on an old Audi(I think)while we were stationed in Germany. I was from Los Angeles so my driving skills were good. He was from Montana, and since they had no freeways there, he scared the hell out of me, merging onto the autobahn. He would come to a complete stop, and then merge. 😲😲😲
In the early 90s I was posted to Yokosuka Japan as a US Navy Military Policeman for two years shore duty . I was required to get a Japanese driver's license and pass an Emergency Vehicle Operators Course . Japanese drive on the left side of the road like the British . The road signs are totally different than American signs and written in Kanji characters . I was driving a patrol vehicle off base within two weeks . The Japanese police let us drive as we wished as long as we didn't cause any accidents .
Phoenix and Miami are the 2 best cities to be in during the winter in America. Phoenix is a whole different animal in July but it's totally awesome this time of year.
It's hilarious to see you driving in Arizona! Now you know what I felt like driving in Paris (in a top-down Jeep Wrangler as well)! I loved seeing your comment about everyone driving faster than the "speed limit". The age-old adage of, "The colors of freedom are Red, White, and Blue...until they are flashing behind you." applies here. Most people keep a lookout for police and if there aren't any visibly around, they're going to exceed the speed limit because people have places they need to be and everyone's always in a rush. The only thing he should have done is get you out on some dirt roads for your first Off-Road experience, and it's a LOT slower! If you want incredible views, you have to go beyond the asphalt.
Awesome job Marie! The best kind of vehicle to drive is a stick shift. I find you have more control over the vehicle as opposed to driving with automatic transmission. I wish manual transmission vehicles were still more common here in North America. Been years since I've been able to drive one. Looking forward to the next video! 👍
OK, pretty Marie risked her life to make a video for us! Girl, you are getting fearless. Best keep that attitude until you try some of the Tex-Mex food they have out there. Thank you, And when do you plan to take a Mustang for a test drive ??
WOW - MARIE, you did sooooo well 🤗🥰 !!! I would have been a nervous wreck in your place 😮😮!!! That right turn on red after stop is an interesting rule, and crazy if you are not used to it. AND, there are some intersections it is not allowed, so we always have to read all the signs at every stop light intersection. AND you were driving a lifted jeep - that is simply an amazing job we saw on that video 😍🤗. That is the first time I saw stress in your face 😲😄, but you simply handled it so very well - so proud of you!! And now you've driven hundreds of miles in the US - so cool Marie 😇🤗. Those same speeders fly by me too, even though I drive about the way you do relative to the speed limit on highways, so I say let them get all the tickets 🤣🤣. My cousin, a Texas State Trooper, says he sets his radar 15 mph above the speed limit and is busy all day 😂🤣❗ Yes, Arizona has so very many intriguing views and scenes to enjoy, and it makes my heart jump for joy that you are having such a wonderful and happy visit there ❤🤗1 Please enjoy the rest of your visit, please drive carefully ☺and stay safe, and Take Care Marie 🥰🙏🥰.
Great job, Marie! Yes , we could see how uncomfortable you were when you started on this jaunt. We could also see how, as you progressed, you became more relaxed and began to enjoy the ride. Like with everything, it just takes practice. You can put another curly W in the book. Luv ya
I really loved your the videos of your first visit to the US. But the first two videos of this new trip are even better lol... I really enjoy seeing you have these experiences Marie. I hope you like Arizona. I've been there many times and it is nothing like my home state of Washington. You drive very well Marie. Hope you have fun and feel welcome while you are here. I'm sure that beautiful French accent will garner a lot attention as soon as you speak. Its a very rare accent for us to hear. ♥
You picked a perfect time to be in Arizona. Make sure you get to see the flower blooms in the desert. Along the Bush Highway is beautiful right now. Have fun and be safe.
First time and in Phx! During rush hour! Those camera angles don't do it justice. Multiple lanes with people flying. It would be like picking Los Angeles to drive your first time. She is being incredibly humble.
Well done, Marie! I was trying to identify where you were driving but it was hard. I did recognize "Camelback Mountain" (northern Phoenix) in the far background at one point but the rest was a mystery to me. Anyway, I'm so pleased you're enjoying my home state and I look forward to your next video. Stay safe!
Hi Your going all out embracing the adventure of the open road Marie Pedal to the metal, blazing a trail as a highway 🌟 🚘 Yippee!!! Were all so proud of you, no matter how anxious it was to begin with , you handled a jeep so superbly & dressed the part , I never doubted that your come through with flying colours, all you needed was a little encouragement from buddy riding shotgun. I'm glad he explained all about turning on a red light , it can be a bit confusing for foreigners if to stop or not, it's different if your in NY & there's usually signs at certain intersections which are busy where turning on a red light would be hazardous. There's a lot more signs to familiarize yourself with in the states & Arizona I've noticed has some of the wackiest & most creative place names, maybe you've come across them to, I can't believe you'll really covered a 1000 miles already, have you thought about testing yourself off road, it must be a great feeling having so much freedom driving for the first time with all those scenic views, it will inspire others that they can also follow their dreams & they'll come true. If your traveling through east chandler boulevard, Prescott valley, the el gordo mex grill has a reputation for the best Mexican food in the state, I came across the article today. Thanks again you roadrunner beep beep , it's always appreciated, I wanna add that song to my playlist now ,hope you enjoyed your tequila , pat your 🐕 Johnnie for me & good luck exploring, take care marie sweet desert rose 🤠 🏜️ 💗 ✌️
At 6:48 the dogs tied to the rear of the car reminded me of the 80s movie Vacation when Chevy Chase forgot the dog tied to the bumper of the family truckster. “Poor little guys, probably kept up for a mile or so”
@SamJackson-xu1py Our town still has arguments galore over them . Half the town hates them and would prefer 4 way stops and traffic lights. I consider those people simpletons who dont know how to drive. They are the same people who wave you through a 4 way stop when it's their turn. Because they don't know its their turn. The half that hates traffic congestion loves them. We have to fight for every one of them. And we're winning. We have gotten rid of a lot of traffic lights in the last ten years. Trolling the local roundabout haters on Facebook is a lot of fun, though.
You did a good job, Marie! I wanted to make a comment on how you were wondering why they were passing you. Well, I live just south of Phoenix, in Tucson, but the speed limits are higher on a lot of the freeways up there. First tiime I went up, I couldn't believe how fast everyone was driving, compared to what I'm used to. Oh, and a lot of people don't come to a complete stop; they come to an ALMOST complete stop. That was fun watching you. :)
Watching you drive here with your Yankee cap on was pretty 'exciting' on this end. 😇 It's easy to tell you're a natural and have good driving skills... once you relaxed! Arizona is amazing indeed, one of our go-to states for vacation and retirement. Stunning.
You didn't look too stressed, especially for your first time driving in the states with some different rules in a much different vehicle than you're used to. Now to get you into a Mustang 😏 Speaking of Mustangs, Nice red Boss 302 sitting next to your computer!! Love following your travels!
My wife grew up in northern England. Her brother tried to teach her how to drive at age 20 and took her out on a main road in manual transmission car. She couldn't handle it. Then she immigrated to the US in 2011 and 2 years later I taught her how to drive - yes, automatic transmission. Now she is a road warrior. And on the right side of the road of course. I drove in Germany and didn't have much trouble at tall because it's not too different than the US. Good thing she didn't try to drive in the Washington DC area. Driver usually roll through stop lights, sometimes not even slowing down much. Northern Virginia (just west of Washington DC) seems to have the worst drivers in the US, and I"ve driven all over California, Texas, midwest, upstate NY and its the worst here.
I grew up in Phoenix. Driving there can be stressful. When the speed limit is 65MPH, people drive 80MPH. In some places, the limit is 75MPH, but people drive at 100MPH.
Bonjour sweet Marie. What a great job you did, especially in rush hour. I couldn't tell that you were stressed, but the thumbnail picture had me worried at first 😁 I love driving too. When the weather is nice, I enjoy long drives. It helps clear my mind. Enjoy the rest of your trip sweetie❤
Hi from Loveland. Even though I choose not to drive I can pass a driving test LOL. Just to give you insight when your at a red light just take a look at the other light and when it turns yellow you'll have at least 5 to 6 seconds before your light turns green. Unless it has a left turn lane then you have a bit longer to wait. Here it's all about timing.
Coucou Marie ! Ta première expérience au volant aux USA me rappelle ma premiere expérience au volant en France. J'étais super stressé car les routes sont tellement plus étroites qu'en France. J'ai survécu quand même ! Hugs from the Lone Star State!
Great job! I think I only saw three or four of the other drivers taking evasive action, and no explosions, so that's awesome! 😉
😅
😂😂😂
Lol
Semper Fi, Marine.
You are now a French American, girl!!
OMG LMAO sirens just as soon as you hit the street 🤣😂🤣 could not have been scripted any better 😂

Lol I know you had a great time....way to go! 😂❤
Great job Marie!
You did Wonderful Marie!!😄😄😄
Lol, you're not the only one that as trouble coming to a complete stop. I still do it sometimes.
Stay safe!
Hi Your going all out embracing the adventure of the open road Marie
Pedal to the metal, blazing a trail as a highway 🌟 🚘
Yippee!!!
“Poor little guys, probably kept up for a mile or so”
Welcome to Phoenix where yellow traffic lights are just a suggestion!
El Mirage, Arizona
I love that America is finally embracing the roundabout.
What sucks is half the people don't know how to use it property
Finally? I thought it was popular for decades?
@SamJackson-xu1py Our town still has arguments galore over them . Half the town hates them and would prefer 4 way stops and traffic lights. I consider those people simpletons who dont know how to drive. They are the same people who wave you through a 4 way stop when it's their turn. Because they don't know its their turn. The half that hates traffic congestion loves them. We have to fight for every one of them. And we're winning. We have gotten rid of a lot of traffic lights in the last ten years. Trolling the local roundabout haters on Facebook is a lot of fun, though.
@wmason1961 I'm just saying I remember driving through them decades ago, but I understand if some people still don't like them.
You did fantastic Marie, have fun, keep the videos coming... take care
Thank you for responding to my question. We would love to have you come see Texas😊
Cool video Marie 😀 Glad you got to drive in America and that you enjoyed it so much. I knew that you would do great. Take care and stay safe 🙏❤️
It was fantastic watching your expressions on your travels. Very good job. Enjoy
Watching you drive here with your Yankee cap on was pretty 'exciting' on this end. 😇 It's easy to tell you're a natural and have good driving skills... once you relaxed! Arizona is amazing indeed, one of our go-to states for vacation and retirement. Stunning.
GREAT job!!!
You didn't look too stressed, especially for your first time driving in the states with some different rules in a much different vehicle than you're used to. Now to get you into a Mustang 😏
Speaking of Mustangs, Nice red Boss 302 sitting next to your computer!!
I've traveled all over the country and for some reason the drivers around the mid-atlantic region from virgina to georgia just seem to be the dumbest.
Oh miss Marie be careful!! Omg!! She's ok now!! 👍I'm glad you didn't hit anything driving
I grew up in Phoenix. Driving there can be stressful. When the speed limit is 65MPH, people drive 80MPH. In some places, the limit is 75MPH, but people drive at 100MPH.
You go girl, hit those gears, drive like you stole it!!! Especially if its a rental!!!!
Bonjour sweet Marie. What a great job you did, especially in rush hour. I couldn't tell that you were stressed, but the thumbnail picture had me worried at first 😁
I love driving too. When the weather is nice, I enjoy long drives. It helps clear my mind.
Enjoy the rest of your trip sweetie❤
I wish you had been driving a mustang would love to see that. Great video.
You handled driving like a pro!
