EP. 70) “I CAN'T BE A SUPER HERO ALL OF THE TIME”
As men, we desire to provide. Provide security for our households, physical security, emotional security, financial security and any other way that we can provide that security. Always showing up in these ways is championed and becomes a drug, so much so, that in the times we may not be able to come through like we have in the past or like we want to, we still say “I got it” or “I’m good”. We do this because we are the “Superhero’s” of our households the one that saves the day. But at times it’s necessary to take off the cape!
In this episode we talk in detail on the vulnerability it requires to take that cape off and how to unlock new levels of intimacy in doing so! Fellas, we know it’s not easy! We’ve learned that there is growth in vulnerability and just by simply expressing why you won’t be able to do something rather than shouldering the burden of your own “I got it” knowing that you don’t.

The discussion about vulnerability & being the “ hero” reminds me of Brene Brown. She does research on vulnerability, shame, & guilt. She has many books & Tedtalks as well. Also, it’s okay for meditation to be difficult because you’re learning to center & ground yourself. The thoughts are meant to come, just refocusing on the breath is awesome. Sometimes holding one hand on your chest & one of your stomach can help you pinpoint where you hold tension & breathe from. Amazing talk!! I love this discussion

I really enjoyed this episode so much. My relatability to it was on a 💯 My favorite part was when Jalon said we men should try and be vulnerable with our feelings, try to discuss things out with like minded people, close friends and people we feel comfortable with. He said opening up, gives me a safe space to know I'm not the only one going through something. And also said part of the reason we men don't speak on alot of things is because we feel like we're the only one going through things. Mehn these words are super correct 👌🏽. We should all know that everyone is going through something, and never feel like we're alone. Thanks alot guys, I really really loved this ❤️

Damn fellas, great conversation and thank you for having it. I feel like the way for us to grow through what we go through is to have these conversations on a consistent basis. A weekly meeting with like minded men to hold each other accountable. If I’m down and my cape came off this week, you better know next week when we check in it’s back on and I handled my business. “ I took the coaching” from my brothas and applied it. That natural competitive nature will kick in and force you to tighten up. The space to be vulnerable in the first place has to be created though and that’s one of the toughest parts for us.

Meditation should definitely be self discovered. I had to go through that journey myself. I meditate, but I meditate on things that are good and honest. Duke has a calling on his life, not saying the others don't, but it's always important to look into why you are doing things and for what purpose. Intentions matter and its good to know why you want to do things, love that he's taking that route.

I would argue that you don’t lose your cape with expressing vulnerability. It doesn’t come off, it’s amplified. Nothing more courageous than skinning your heart open for those to see. And what’s a Super Hero without courage?
If anything your Armor/Guard comes off but the cape doesn’t go anywhere. Just my 2 cents anyway!
