It’s even more horrifying knowing I forgot to take the price tag on my shirt off!

If only the other 25% of the game is complete but we won’t be seeing the remake decades from now

I used to be scared of Luigi's mansion too. I still remember how relieved I would be to find a Toad and have the room be lit up. It honestly made the rest of the game playable for me (up until Boolossus at least, I could never beat it as a kid bc I didn't know how to use the ice power to help make it a bit easier) I think something about the Toads reassured me that at least there were other "people" there in the mansion.

This perfectly described my thought process as a kid. It's so cool knowing I wasn't the only one! The Toads were a feeling of sweet relief! In fact, when I felt overwhelmed in the game I would often go to a room with a toad to recompose myself lol

Eternal darkness is a game I have NOT experienced. I wonder if I'd even be able to handle it lol
Mario sunshine actually didn't unsettle me too much, but I do remember the ghost hotel being slightly unsettling... mainly because it reminded me of Luigi's mansion hahaha

My two first GameCube games were Luigi’s Mansion and Metroid Prime 2. I remember the anxiety I had playing both, lol. It wasn’t until I got Animal Crossing and Sunshine that I finally started not being afraid of the cube.

HA! It's funny you mention animal crossing. I would have said the same, but as soon as I saw what your character looked like (having no eyes) when you quit the game without saving... it just amplified my fear of the gamecube hahaha

True the games on GameCube really had a distinct and kind of overall dark and realistic style to them

Something about Poes from Ocarina of Time, threw me off as a kid. I think it was their design, at that time I didn't play OoT, it was my brother who did and everytime he found a Poe in the Kakariko Village's Graveyard it felt uncomfortable inside. I was not generally afraid of ghosts in media but I couldn't stand those things. I also don't like the Redeads and Floor Masters from Wind Waker, it took me many years to beat the later without feeling uncomfortable.

Ocarina of time was VERY unsettling for me when I was a kid! The poes also freaked me out lol The graveyard was the WORST place. Every time I restarted the game I dreaded getting to that part 🤣

Mario has had unsettling things in it since the SNES days. As a kid, the giant Bowser at the end of Yoshi's Island was quite intimidating - and he dark area in the castle at the end of Super Mario World, as well as the ghost houses, made me uneasy - not enough to stop playing, but it did. But then it got downright creepy in Mario 64 with the giant eel underwater. To this day, I, a grown man born in the 80s, HATE underwater sections in games EVERY TIME - because you're always slower and have fewer ways to run or defend yourself underwater, and the fear of ocean depths is a real thing in a lot of people. I felt SO upset by the sections in the Horizon: Zero Dawn games that had me underwater for the same reason. You can't see around you that well, you're slower, you can't defend yourself there - I HATE IT. There's a section in Horizon: Forbidden West where a machine is chasing you through an underwater area and you have to just RUN, and that means if you make a wrong turn underwater - which is VERY easy to do, you can get nailed by it, and it's so upsetting. I'm not a big fan of horror games, though I liked Dino Crisis 1 and 2, Resident Evil 1 and 2 less so but still beat them both - and Luigi's Mansion by 2001 was not so scary to me - I was a teen - but MAN, you put me underwater with a big thing that can kill you in there, and guaranteed I don't EVER want to play that game again once i beat it because I don't want to go though that again.
I wish developers would learn that underwater levels are only fun when you have clear, blue, cheerful water and nothing is trying to eat you. I love Dino Crisis 2, but I don't want to play it again ONLY because of the part where you're underwater and a plesiosaur is after you. Why do devs ALWAYS think that's fun? IT'S NEVER FUN! That and escort missions need to be ejected from video games as a whole.

That's so fascinating! I'm so glad I'm no the only one! It's funny you mentioned Mario 64 since that game REALLY unsettled me. Especially the corridor that leads to the fountain area that had the Boos! That FREAKED me out! I always tried to avoid that area lol
I also am not the biggest fan of water areas, but primarily due to the fact that the controls are often HORRIBLE... but that's scary in itself lol!
Thank you so much for sharing this! This was a wonderful read!

I was quite scared of Luigi's mansion when I first played it, but I was also really intrigued at the same time. I really love old mansions and still do till this day. Now it's my all time favourite game.

I grew playing NES, SNES, and N64. If you had played N64 before GameCube, the transition would have been less jarring when you played Melee. Melee < Original SSB IMO.

I completely agree! I also think age had a big thing to do it since even the 64 and SNES freaked me out with some games in my earlier years lol
      Brawl is actually my favorite!

Oh wow! The Nintendo GameCube. Great underrated console this is 32Bit. But I always felt bad for the unit....It came from a time when Sony was so hot that you thought that how Nintendo could ever catch up to them after the success of the Playstation. Then when the Playstation 2 arrived, they were considered unstoppable at the time. There's a good reason why the PS2 is the best selling home console ever (as of now)
Then when Microsoft entered the video game industry, this multi-billion Dollar a year software giant was going to debut with the Xbox, the competition was going to be to outrageously high, you believe that Nintendo's KiddyCube doesn't have a chance.
But Nintendo managed and offered so many quality classics that the console and games are still worth owning and at reasonable prices. It my not be the most demanding system that Nintendo created, but well worth owning for sure.
Nice work as always 32Bit. Keep up the great work for sure. 8^)
    Anthony..

Even today, I actually have VERY little experience with the PS2. I didn't get involved with Sony until the PS4. It's actually exciting knowing about the VAST library on the PS2 that I've never experienced!
The xbox I have even less experience with! But I remember my neighbor having one and bringing it over. I believe he put in dead or alive, and my 6 year old brain thought that the system seemed WAY too old for me lol
The gamecube really was wonderful! I wish it got the appreciation we have towards it now back in its heyday!
Thank you so much, Anthony! I appreciate you!
