I agree. My favourite. It's not just a song, it's an experience. I really wanted to be there. The studio version is great, but the live experience is just incredible.
Brilliant first reaction to the mighty G. When you get James hetfield in the front row watching you, you know you've made it.. Last band I saw pre COVID, first band I saw post COVID.. Absolutely phenomenal band live. Joe the singer and mario the drummer are brothers. I'm sure it's already been said.. But mario duplantier is one of the best drummers on planet earth right now. Technical wise, he'd give Danny Carey a run for his money. I loved you reaction, as you lads genuinely got them immediately. I'm 55 now, and a few years ago my oldest daughter, talked me into going to see them, at a small venue called the Manchester academy. I love metal and so do all my kids, but I had not heard them really back then.. A random Thursday night like 2016 or something.. Christ...I was absolutely blown away how good they were.. And they had code orange for support.. Shatter by code orange 😢 rip bray/Wyndham Brilliant song.. Flying whales. Prey. Only pain. All great songs my friends.. Keep up the good job lads..😎🤟🏻
Their studio productions are great no doubt, but their live sets are where their talent really shines. Give this a listen. Gojira - The Heaviest Matter of The Universe (Live at Vieilles Charrues Festival 2010)
I already liked Gojira but then I saw a live performance of them on UA-cam and they were absolutely killing it. It sounded as great and huge as in the studio and they were absolutely in sync with each other. Phenomenal!
You guys have scratched the surface of a deep rabbit hole. Vacuity, Flying Whales, Satan is a Lawyer, Oroborus, Gift of Guilt. Every single song of theirs is incredible.
So happy you're going down the Gojira rabbit hole! Here's my go to list of Gojira tracks that I recommend new listeners or reactors should listen to - but trust me when I say you can't go wrong. They're great live but some vids have poor sound quality, so only go on recommendations. Enjoy your Gojira journey! 3rd album: From mars to sirius - Flying whales (Gojira's signature track) - Where Dragons Dwell (youtube: live at hellfest 2013, a MUST see!!, don't miss out on this reaction) - The heaviest matter in the universe (very heavy) - Global warming (youtube: live studio) 4th album: The way of all flesh - The art of dying (legendary track) - Vacuity - Toxic Garbage Island - Wolf down the Earth / or / esoteric surgery (Not something you've done before, but Art of Dying, Esoteric Surgery & Vacuity all roll into each other on the album, with a linked outro, interesting production feature you only get listening to albums - talking to you, kids!) 5th album: L'enfant sauvage - The gift of guilt (live Brixham academy) - L'enfant sauvage - Born in Winter - Explosia 6th album: Magma - Pray (live at red rocks only, phenomenal extended performance) - Stranded - Silvera - The cell /or/ shooting star (live at bbc, about the death of their mother) 7th album: Fortitude - Born for one thing - Amazonia - Sphinx - Another World /or/ New Found /or/ Grind 2nd album: The link - Embrace the world - Indians - Remembrance (live at Link Alive) 1st album: Terra incognita - Space time - Lizard skin / or /clone - Love (from 'link alive' ideally) Special: - Inferno (live studio, my favourite track, reimagined from a rare soundtrack album Gojira did called Maciste All'inferno)
"The Art of Dying" LIVE at vieilles charrues, i was there in public and its also the best representation of Gojira. My favorite version and song of all time. This is pure Wilderness, rage and emotional moment.
Off the same album, Silvera. Even heavier riff. I started my Gojira rabbit hole from the Olympics, can’t believe I hadn’t listened to these guys sooner. Awesome band.
Mario Duplantier on those drums. He is the best drummer I've heard in decades. I'm 62 and a metalhead, so I know really epic drummers. Mario is on the top for me. So interesting to listen to him specifically on each track. He knows how to create interest with those fills. He's a master of his craft.
Welcome to the Gojira rabbit hole. Mario Duplantier is in my Top 5 for active metal drummers. I've seen them live multiple times and they are TIGHT. My favorite song is still L'Enfant Sauvage (from their 2012 album of the same name).
I believe they using some sort of digit Wammy tech pedal like the one that Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine uses to get the high-pitched tones.
The Gift of Guilt, live at Brixton Academy. You will love it. Mario plays those drums like animal from the Muppets and it's so awesome. Another good one is Amazonia. If you like your metal really heavy. Try Lizard Skin live at Vielles Charrues. Just such an epic track.
I love Gojira they are one of my favorite bands excellent musicians and music, must listen to art of dying, heaviest matter of the universe, flying whales is a epic song , wolf down the earth, the cell , remembrance, love , amazonia,Indians , toxic garbage island and etc they have a lot of great music
Gojira do use a lot of harmonics on guitar but here it's a whammy pedal. Standard suggestions: The video of 'Born for One Thing' but for the rest the live versions tend to be better. Like Gift of Guilt/Brixton Academy, Oroborus/Eurokeens, Pray/Red Rock, Silvera/Hellfest or Pol'and Rock, Heaviest Matter of The Universe/Vieilles Charrues
NEVER suggest Heaviest Matter of The Universe live. It's so badly blown out, in every live video. I mean, I guess it sounds fine in the Vielles Charrues video -- if you don't mind extra crust in your sound. But it sounds like it was bitcrushed.
@@Kyljys-pt4up Yeah, that's true. VC is a very main stream festival and I guess the recording engineers had no clue which distortion was intended by the band and which was just their equipment overloading.
Just an FYI more than anything else, the harmonics you're talking about are actually a picked chord that is pitch shifted up with a DigiTech whammy 😊👌🏻
YES!! Fantastic journey coming THE ART OF DYING FLYING WHALES L’ENFANT SAUVAGE Three face melter songs that will blow your mind to get you started fellas 🤘🏻🔥
If you're a fan of double bass or their heavier sounds "This Emptiness", "From the Sky" and anything from the Terra Incognita album will blow you away. Well, most of the of their songs to be honest lol.
You got to listen to their old stuff, don't listen to people on here giving you recommendations.. they just give you casual songs, watch, WHERE DRAGONS DWELL live 2010 hellfest
the harmonics you speak of are just the the opening 4 notes in the chorus with distortion thru a digitech whammy pedal... actually super easy.. i think Dime started it would have to fact check that tho.
If you like heavy driving chugging riffs and heavy rhythms you should check out a UK postpunk industrial metal band called Killing Joke who I believe inspired GOJIRA.
Guys guys guys... What LIVE performance from them, not videos... Give "Pray", Live at Red Rocks a try; or "L'Enfant Sauvage", from the same show. Cheers from France
Gojira "the gift of guilt" live at brixton, Pray (extended) live from Red Rocks, L'enfant Sauvage, The art of Dying at Vieilles Charrues, Flying Whales at Brixton , Heaviest Matter Of The Universe, just to quote a few of their best. The live sound of Gojira is killer as welle as thier performance ... You should try live performance rather than videos
In concert they are even more grandiose! Mario is one of the best drummers in the world, if you do a reaction on them take a song in concert! they tear everything up, thank you for your VOD, I am French yes I am chauvinistic Ah Ah
Guys guys guys... Watch LIVE performances from them, not videos... Give "Pray", Live at Red Rocks a try; or "L'Enfant Sauvage", from the same show. Cheers from France
I'm going to add one thing that most people don't notice on a first listen, so that you can pay attention to it in your next reactions to Gojira: Joe Duplantier screams in pitch. If you know something about harsh vocals, you'll know that it's something not many singers can do. 🙂
this the recent stuff ,it's awesome because Gojira is awesome , but i would suggest to go back in time , and listen their ealier more technical stuff first to have an idea of where they come from , songs here are from the first albums to the last , here is an ultimate playlist so you don't have to search xd Terra incognita /the link From mars to sirius Remembrance from the link alive 2003 The heaviest matter of the universe ( studio or live at brixton ) Clone live vieilles charrues 2010 Flying whales Space time the link alive 2003 where Dragons Dwell live hellfest 2013 Love live garorock 2009 From the sky live bordeaux 2009 Blow me away You niverse live hellfest 2019 Backbone , live at brixton wisdom comes , live brixton 2013 Ocean Planet Fire is everything live hellfest 2013 in the wilderness Death of me live link alive 2003 To sirius The way of all flesh Oroborus ( live eurockenne 2009 ) esoteric surgery ( one of the hardest gojira song ) Toxic garbage island live hellfest 2016 wolf down the earth a sight to behold live eurockeene 2009 Vacuity ( live vieilles charrues 2010 ) The art of dying ( studio or live bordeaux 2009 ) The way of all flesh live garorock 2009 or bordeaux 2009 ) l'enfant sauvage Magma L'enfant sauvage live or studio Silvera ( live hellfest 2016 or studio ) the axe live at brixton Stranded ( live poland 2019 or studio ) Pain is a master Pray ( live at red rocks ) Mouth of khala Low lands ( about the passing of mother duplantier during the album recording explosia live at brixton this emptiness Fortitude born in winter Born for one thing ,sphinks , ,our time is now

Oui oui et oui !!! ❤
I'd love to see you guys circle back to Gojira. Born for one thing is such a great song from an engineering standpoint. Sounds amazing.
Art of dying at vielle charrue festival 2010, the best drum part you've ever seen 🤯🤯🤯

Born For One Thing, it's a song full of dynamics.
You'll love it
Silvera is a must! Amazonia is amazing…about the destruction of the rainforests. Born For One Thing, Our Time Is Now.
Brilliant first reaction to the mighty G.

Red rocks festival 2017 is so good.
Try “Silvera” next. It’s even heavier!!!🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
And this is the lighter, more accessible side of Gojira :)
Their studio productions are great no doubt, but their live sets are where their talent really shines. Give this a listen.
Gojira - The Heaviest Matter of The Universe (Live at Vieilles Charrues Festival 2010)
I love your reactions, so spontaneous! From France.
I loved the Roxbury Guys synchronised head nodding
when you got into the groove with this Gojira song.
I already liked Gojira but then I saw a live performance of them on UA-cam and they were absolutely killing it. It sounded as great and huge as in the studio and they were absolutely in sync with each other. Phenomenal!
They are unbelievable live. Just saw them in west palm beach with Korn and Spiritbox. Mind blowing.
Heaviest Matter Of The Universe. It’s stupid heavy
"Stranded" is their most radio's frendly. you must try songs like "oroborus" , "vacuity", " art of dying or "l'enfant sauvage"
I'll see them on stage on nov. 2025 hello from France! keep on reacting with Gojira! Peace !
Flying whales- dude really any of them are bangers🤘🏻

For the master class in live sound and skill you wont find much better than Gojira - Pray live at Red Rocks.
I believe they using some sort of digit Wammy tech pedal like the one that Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine uses to get the high-pitched tones.
Oroborus, Low Lands and Pray - live at Red Rocks are great Songs
Monsters. Love em
I only kew about Gojira through the epic Olympics opening, but bro, are they dope? Love it.

Flying Whales brothers!
Amazonia, Flying Wales (full version). Hard AF.
Trust me when I say you have NEVER witnessed a more insane live act in your entire life.
Explosia OMV, Vacuity OMV, Ouroboros live at Eurockeennes 2009. All solid trips into their middle years.

There is a good reason why France showed them off in the Olympics.
Flying whales is one of their best tracks!
