That's true, but I think this song refers more to the guilt we inherit from things out of our control. Like the idea of being a sinner from the moment you're born and haven't actually done anything, and what that guilt does to you
Bro we need to shock judson with a Gojira song like clone or wisdom comes, it would be so funny to see him hearing something completely different from Gojira
For a better representation of the sheer power of this tune check out the live version from BRIXTON ACADEMY This tune along with the title track hint of where they were going with their material Imo their next album Magma was GOJIRA's "Black" album Meaning they focused more on groove and melody and shortened the songs although MAGMA had some great songs on it This album is milestone for the band✌️🤘🧐
Ah, the wonderful world of guilt. Great tune and reminded me a bit of early Machinehead. In my drinking days, I almost ordered a pad of headed letters saying sorry so I could save time the morning after. Didn't bother in the end and still carry guilt 20 years later for not apologising for some of my actions. Mostly it's fetid water under a rickety bridge, but still the guilt remains.
I like the fact that both of you are so fuckin prepared about music and have the ability to go deep down with the analysis when it's needed. Classic and metal music are so close. They always have been Keep up the good work
Super interesting concept to write a song about! Imo, guilt makes the world go round. Without ever feeling guilt for anything, we’re just a bunch of sociopaths burning bridges without taking accountability for our wrongdoings. I think you pretty much echoed each other, but the way Richard described it more so emphasizes the gift of guilt. If you feel guilt but don’t rectify your mistakes and thus “come out of it” the guilt can destroy you. Acknowledging and rectifying your mistakes is personal growth… unless of course you don’t learn from said mistakes. Dope song choice!
Y'all gotta check out some Ulcerate, a song like "Dissolved Orders" or "Stare Into Death and Be Still" (also the title of their prior album) would rip, I think J would like it.
I don't leave comments like this often, but I felt compelled to leave one now. I've followed you guys for a long time and your channel has been so therapeutic for me. As a recovering addict and someone with depression and anger issues in the past, as well as a metal fan, your channel speaks to me so much. I love your chemistry together. I love the song Breakdowns, I love the analysis. It's so refreshing to see in a UA-cam channel. I think it touches more people than you can even imagine. Thank you both for such cool content. Continue the powerful journey ❤️🤘 Also, Gojira are frickin amazing. Keep circling back to their music on the channel, as they hardly (if ever) miss
The same thing Devin Townsend said about his songwriting. He just can't not write, he has to let it out of his system. I'm not sure whether it's a curse of a blessing for creators of this type but it's sure a blessing for us. Great reaction. If there's to be more Gojira reactions, I second Wisdom Comes for the next song, or pretty much anything from the first album for really heavy stuff (Clone? Space Time?). Or something really different like Magma or Mouth of Kala
I recommend you both check out Alcest (I am assuming it's not in either of your playlists). Imo they are kinda like the chill part of Gojira condensed.
I’d love to hear Judson’s reaction to “Bloodbath” or “Murmaider III” by Dethklok from their new album. Or really any Dethklok song. Brendon Small’s guitar work and style of musical composition and lyrical choice is unique. He managed to make a parody of metal that is also a love letter to the genre and consistently outperforms big names in the game.
All Hail The Mighty GOJIRA !!! Experiencing them live is somehow even more energetic, intense, and emotional than their album recordings. If you get the opportunity (and I hope you all do) experience them live... I don't think you'll ever regret it
I’d be really curious to hear both of your interpretations of the song, “Esoteric Surgery” off of The Way of All Flesh by Gojira. I’ve read the lyrics to that song countless times, and still don’t fully grasp what they could be talking about in those lyrics, it’s very thought provoking.
Your reaction to The Art of Dying is the reason why i once tried the album where it is from, The Way of All Flesh. Of course i heard Gojira before, but i think my music taste was pretty different and more focused on vocals than on instrumental part of music, so i somehow passed the band by. And this year i kinda discovered a new band. L'enfant Sauvage is my favourite Gojira album now. That would be fine if Judson reacted to Exposia or Mouth of Kala. Those outros are just... OOFFF!!.. However, you've already figured general Gojira style out (though there is something different in their discography), so i'd also like you to check new bands. I don't want to be intrusive but i will remind you of Kardashev. Guys are not as popular as Gojira is, so hardly anyone will support me. Hope you will ever reach them👀
Gojira are one of those love/hate bands for me. Their songs I do like are some of the chunkiest, hardest heavy metal I can think of; a lot of their songs I don't like at all, so I just have albums where I'll skip all but two or three songs haha. Really tight band, though, and a pretty wildly varied composition under their belt from album to album; and even from song to song on each album. It was cool to see them opening at the Olympics. Digging the Exodus shirt; should make him listen to Toxic Waltz or Shovel Headed Kill Machine, you'll have him running around screaming "kill all posers" in no time, haha. Cheers.
Are you guys going to consider listening to Car Bomb? They've opened for Gojira in the past and Joe Duplantier helped produce their album Meta, as well as having done guest vocals on a couple of their songs. I think a great song choice would either be Black Blood or Secrets Within.
Car Bomb is the only band I’ve come across so far where their songs (the way they play with pitch) can sometimes make me feel slightly nauseous. I love it!
I hate how guilt is a corrupted feeling, by people, in most cases, and not GENUINE. Of course guilt is a vital feeling, but I think most people barely ever get to really feel that. PS: this is one of the songs where you can realize Gojira are actually musical geniuses. What a song.
Alright Judson....I'm gonna go back to some Aerosmith- I also had written off Aerosmith, and haven't listened for a LONG time. I'll take your word, and go take a listen. We'll see 😂 Appreciate you coming back around to Gojira. Great band 🖤
Did you see that Great Measures was included in Derek Brooks' newest video? He makes mashup compilations of reaction videos, newest one is about Sleep Token. Judson is included twice briefly and channel is linked in the description. His videos are great, you gotta check them out
thank you guys!! appreciate the work you are putting in this. means a lot. what about continuing Dream Theater with Dance of Eternity? i know you are not a big fan of dream theater but I think this one fits well to the concept of this channel.
guys.. i've been listening to you both since the beginning and i think i got a pretty good grasp of what judson might like... and also what might be intresting to discuss.. I recommend you to review Satyricon - Deep calleth upon deep. I would say is a branch of blackmetal that you haven't visited... pretty interesting evolution of the genre.. i dont even now what to thing about it besides that i love it.
ahh haa...semi-retired ya'll, watching the Olympics' Snoop and Martha Stewart attended the prancing horse competition (whatever it's called). Snoop all dressed up in equestrian attire sipping champagne with Martha. at the end he found it fascinating and is thinking about buying a horse. worth a watch.
This song is about the climate, and how humans keep making mountains of garbage, and we all should feel guilty as humans, but yes also he say he leave behind the gift of guilt, like he was one doing damage, but now he try do it right, how i get it anyway..
Am i wrong or is the progression that Judson pointed out the same as the bass in "Hit the Road Jack" ? Also, i tend to agree that it is about guilt as motivation, maybe also typically for gojira, about destroying the environment.
Gojira is fantastic. Have not really listen to them for 10 years but..... The music is fantastic. What do you mean that they are from france and english is not there language... well what about like 90% of the great music then :-) everything from ABBA to Opeth to what ever.

You do something you regret, you feel guilty, you learn from that mistake and you GROW because of it 🌳
And sometimes you just give up, and dont care anymore what happens xD
Yeah, but in the real world that barely ever happens. Most people choose to hold on to be P.O. $.

Joe says "GO!" amd Mario goes.
The song that absolutely changed me when I saw them at a tiny venue. Complete factory reset.
God, i forgot how insane the drumming was on this song... Always taking you by surprise in the middle part.
I love the Tappin intro to this song. It’s simple but effective.
Until Mario complicates it, incredibly well. Epic "Animal" drumming.
