This helped me a ton :) I don't know how I never noticed riddle of fire granted formless to continue an Opo after a dragon kick, I would just hit it as fast as I could to continue my rotation thinking its fine
95% of my playtime i was mainly Tank and now i try to get into Monk and oh boy it's hard 😅 BUT i love Monk ever since FF11 i wanted to have it as my main DPS. That sayd, thank you for this guide. It really helps getting into the matter.
I am literally in the same boat here. Been playing WAR since I started, mained WAR/PLD for Savage in EW and now I wanted to mix it up, so I chose to main MNK for DT.
As part of leveling every class to 100, yesterday I started with my lvl 90 monk, got Aglaia for Alliance Roulette and I had no idea what I was doing because I hated Endwalker Monk after maining it in past expansions. But with your guide now I have a better understanding on how the job flows and honestly, I think I might enjoy it once again
really like how you show and explain the rotation and how it builds up step by step. honestly couldn't tell if i was playing it right so far because the fury didn't make sense to me until the new update.
I can also confirm I was a single, virgin soyboy, but then I watched the foxicGuide on how to play monk and now I have so many girls I feel like Hugh Heffner.
I'm glad that I seem to have been mostly playing my monk right cause I've been running it in the extremes without truly knowing if what I was doing was optimal... But I am just sad that I feel like I am doing lower damage than other DPS (or compared to other melee dps at the very least) despite being near melded bis gear and I don't know if it's because I am playing wrong or that's just how mnk is
Played monk since forever and not playing during endwalker, DT monk was very weird. Having to look at the job gauge rather than my buff bar has made me mess up so many mechs.
I haven't tried monk yet, but looking at the changes, it seems like it's more braindead now with no demolition dot and serpent strike buff to keep it uptime. Excited to play it later and level.
Great guide, is there a particular skill speed threshold you try to hover around? Decided to main MNK after endwalker and its been fun building the familiarity (the odd celestial because of brain farts while trying to manage mechanics hurt).
Potency is stored in the balls. Also quick aside: Solar Lunar is used as the opener for most ultimates (with the notable exclusion of TOP), mostly due to some nonstandard kill times that let you do some wacky stuff. For example in TEA for Living Liquid you actually get 2 blitzes in your 2nd RoF if you delay using RoF until you almost have 2 stacks of Perfect Balance, as even with delaying RoF this much it will still be up in time for the BJCC reopener meaning you don't lose a use. You'd never ever do this in full uptime fights, but it's one of the wacky things we can do with nonstandard kill times.
Nice info, I'll keep it in mind if I go in there as monk! How does monk even perform in older content? EW/SHB or even SB? I myself really only started playing it properly again this expac since the only other time I enjoyed it was double TK SB monk haha
@@HiImFox Funnily enough, I just got rank 1 Monk/rank 1 Non-Picto in TEA a few hours after writing this. Monk performs extremely well in older content, it's probably the best melee in the game in that regard, with a close 2nd being DRG. DRG technically does more damage overall but lacks the utility and defensives that Monk boasts.
@@HiImFox Thanks! TOP and DSR are very fun on Monk, the only thing to keep in mind is you'll be doing some downtime Blitz prep sometimes to not overcap on PB. Hope you enjoy!
@@Spiritchuckpvp cant speak for TOP or DSR but monk absolutely fucks in ultimates in general, even in the 70 range. It's just so much fun and really rewards optimizing your down time. And also hehehehe thunderclap. ... I will say, I do miss double dotting LL in TEA. That was fun to manage 😭
@@zweinhanderhiruzen9811 If you're just getting started, you won't have to worry about most of this till later. It'll get drip fed to you as you level Pugilist, and later Monk, through MSQ so by the time you're dealing with the lvl 100 rotation you'll have been dealing with stuff like Fury stacks and Riddle of Fire for a while already, a step at a time.
What do you think of Monk when compared to the other dps? Also im disappointed they didn't fix six sided star, pretty sure it's the only lv 80 skill that is straight up unusable lol.
Star actually has it's uses if you know where to look. About to take a ton of forced downtime? Star. Boss about to disappear for a mechanic (way more common in ultimate)? Star. About to lose control of your character because of a knockback (like EX2)? Star. At the end of your Riddle of Fire + Brotherhood window and your last GCD isn't a blitz and you have more than 5 chakra? Star (small gain).
What uses would you want to see for SSS? The reason I mention it being trash is because I see a lot of people saying how you should use it in your burst as last gcd or similiar while that is something the average player shouldnt do, and should only be done if you are absolutely aware of why you are doing it. Overall it does have its uses for any form of downtime you encounter in fights or where you are forced to disengange which I believe is totally fine
@HiImFox yeah I have normally used it after or right before using forbidden chakra so it's not such a big dps loss if used in between, imo unless im dumb, and I just love the animation for SSS so i try to fit it in the rotation, but idk maybe they should make it an OGCD every minute or make it a follow up after something.
Since your better at the jobs history and been playing mnk longer than I have, is there any reason why they changed the function of six sided star cuz at least for me I was able to actually weave into my rotations (mostly when I was using tornado kick but moreover when executing masterful blitz) but in endwalker they changed the function of it and it stills feel clunky to execute , was there a reason why or has it always been the res headed stepchild of the abilities...rip anatman
If you mean the looks of it, that is FROST UI - a quick google search should help with that :) If you mean just in general my hotbar setup i have 2 videos on my channel covering how I go on about setting up my hotbars
The explanation on why you do Double Lunar is mostly correct. However, you will still want to do Solar + Lunar opener if your party doesn't have party buffs and if your kill time is 7 minutes or more. If your party is filled with mostly greedy jobs, you will want to do Solar + Lunar for maximum DPS instead.
I dont think so tbh? Double Lunar is also a gain for yourself in your own buffs, unless things have changed in 7.05 with the buffs to PR? I also dont believe it depends on being a 7 or more minute killtime but what you end it on. Simply put: if you lose a PR, you should start with SOL/LUN opener, as long as you get a PR at the end even outside of ROF Lunar was correct
@@xL0stKIlahweaker? no, the recent potency buffs made up for whatever amount of potency the dot and buff added give or take. harder? old monk had my eyes glued to the hotbar just as much but with the added expectations of a dot and buff. they also fixed the rotations with the ball/fury update in 7.01 to fit prior muscle memory.
@@tyhjyys weaker absolutely. Being able to gave a constant buff on all your moves including aoe will always be better. Takong away a dot for a dps could never be a godd thing. Managing a dot and buff was easy. It's literally a part of the standard rotation and you just alternate every combo. Now you literally have no idea where you are for max dmg unless your eyes are glued to the balls. Playing monk for awhile has helped because things are generally the same but the changes are undoubtedly worse in everyway.
I disagree but I also played hundreds of hours of Endwalker monk so I'm definitely not the target audience for these changes. The rotation is *MUCH* more shallow compared to what it used to be, and for me that's been a bummer as someone who likes to optimize.

what would u say is simpler to play now monk or viper ?
viper probably, at least in my opinion

you need to fill the balls if the balls are inert
when the balls are filled, do we get a damage boost? i dont understand the balls
ball filled = use ball spender cause you get more dmg on the skill

removing +10% damage buff from twin snakes makes the class so much nicer to play lol
You mean harder and weaker. Now you have to stare at the gauge instead of just refreshing twin snakes back and forth in between rotations
