Best guide on the viper I've seen yet. No one has pointed out the color coated rear and flank positionals which makes it a lot easier to keep track of what positions you need. You'll still have to memorize 2 positionals that aren't color coated, but other than that the color coated ones make it so much easier.
Yeah I tried my best to cover what all I learned during my time with Viper and the colors were something I noticed immediately. Appreciate the kind words 🙏
I replied to someone with this but I think it will help as well for other people as well, for the basic “123” the second attack that gives dmg buff will always make it a flank next and the one that gives speed buff will always make it a rear next. From there they follow a simple path of flanks buff the next rear on the same button (if you have them overwrite) and the rears swap the buttons. So if we arbitrarily give them the monikers Flank1, Flank2, Rear1, Rear2 the path for the last hit of the combo will go something like this Flank1 -> Rear1 -> Flank2 -> Rear2 -> Flank1 etc. You have to decide which one is 1 or 2 based on your button mapping but it will always be some permutation of this pattern
And this is something I hope changes in 7.05 Definitely doing a follow up video along with future rotation guides once 7.05 drops. Not wasting my time editing with changes around the corner.
I feel like this job at first was daunting but once you get started with it it is a very simple job to understand the rotation pretty much is self explanatory with how things light up even though it is a simpler job to pick up and play it’s still very fun and I absolutely love it
Anytime 👍 yeah that took a long time to edit that in. I think there is a simpler way to have the icons move across in real time which I may try doing in future rotation videos.
For the single-target positionals, the end positional is based off of the second ability hit in the combo. For instance, if you just keep hitting Steel Fangs (ignoring the combo action for potency increase) the final action will always be a flank and vice versa for Dread Fangs. After performing one, it always seems to flip flop from flank to rear to flank. Knowing this gives the Viper a GCD to position themselves. It's weird compared to other melee classes where you always know where your positional will be based on the skill (also I still miss Kaiten, gone but not forgotten).
Yeah so when I FIRST started Viper at release (early access) I hated it... almost gave up on it after hitting 86-ish. I just wasn't vibing with it at all. After giving a another try and really focusing on the rotation I started to love it. Level 100 really made the Job exciting for me as I love extremely fast gameplay (in any game that I play). Right now I love where Viper is. Once I hit 100 I hit record immediately and started going through what I learned along the way. I never look up guides or read reddit etc on what everyone else is doing or what the "agreed meta rotation" is per se. I just felt that I had a solid enough understanding of how this Job works for a Guide. Depending on how well received this video garners, I just may do an entire series of Level 100 Rotation Guides - will take me a while to get them all to 100 and edited but it's something I'm considering going forward.
@@KitsuneFloof Which is why I never once talked about the gauges - either one of them. The 50 timer is nice but I just look at the Reawaken Action Icon. I don't even look at the gauges. In fact, I may even remove them as a test to see if I really "need" them.
I bounced between Dreadwinder and dread fangs often to test. I found myself going back to Dreadwinder more often as I felt it got what we needed a little faster. This is all subjective imo but for me Dreadwinder works best. I'm sure the elitist out there who dedicate their time to min/max will definitely have more definitive data to back up their claims.
depending on mechanics during savages it might be better to save uncoiled for other mechanics in which you cannot be near the target, or you need to hold a spot but still throw out good dps
Just now reading your comment! It's been so long now but iirc it was one from one of the level 91 to 98 gear sets you get in the DT MSQ. I liked it and kept it. Think it was from the new dungeons.
I wish new Classes started at level 1... 80+ is crazy, you get so many abilities at thr start it gets overwhelming.. at level 1 you get to learn the class
Honestly if they fixed when you get abilities and how they explain tbem in the topl tips and in game. It probably would be considered a average difficulty job. Quite possibly might also be a ping related issue with the way the buttons change and how many you have to go thru
Ping is definitely an issue - I tend to clip actions with this current rotation sometimes. A little frustrating but manageable. I'll make a new video once they drop the changes 👍
@@obviousaddy gotcha - I hardly ever go to the Lodestone - glad you all mentioned this. What a crying shame.... Viper is so easy. Oh well, I'll hold off on Rotation guides until these updates. NGL this kinda pisses me off they are doing this.
@@oxfordking Same here, idk why they wanna change Viper, he's actually fine and ultra easy to play. They complain about positionals he has btw, as a monk main i laughed so hard reading that lol
One problem i have. and it seems to be again in this video. Everyone mentions the color of the skill. But that relies on you constantly staring at your action bar which makes paying attnetion to fight mechanics at same time very difficult. Most jobs you can get a idea of their flow over time and not need to check skills nonstop. But with Viper i either need to check which sword is lit up on the gauge or which skill on my bar is lit up and its causing me issues. What is best way to know which skill to hit/positional without staring at my action bar 100% of the time?
Completely agree with you on this - and I'm keen to learn more from the team once they make the changes to 7.05 - I will be doing a follow up video on that rotation immediately. For me, I use Gamepad on PC which allows me to mimic the Flank and Rear icons - I do this so I know which one is next in line for that positional so its less looking down. I am currently at 99MSQ and I can see how the job in its current iteration can be overwhelming - almost like how ninja is but this seems a little busier than that.
as far as I understood your first positional depends on which finisher you used in your first combo: your "left" side will give you a FLANK attack on the third hit of your next combo, while your "right" combo will give you the REAR. Depending on what you start you have to just remember to follow what the gauge tells you to press and remember that the positionals always alternate between flank>rear>flank etc.
@@dracopo8862 yeah the second action dictates your thirds positional I know that. The problem I have is. Which if the 2 skills you press. Since it can be 1 of 2 regardless which positional your at. Every other job you can get it down to memory. But viper it feels very random so I need to constantly check my action bar to see which of 2 is glowing/check which of my swords of my gauge is glowing to know which of the 2 buttons I need to press this time
@@Zenotar1 I had to think about it for a second but I realized something with the base combo that helps with that. If you go through your 123 and go down the dmg buff path first, whichever flank attack you use the next rear attack will be the same button. That rear attack will then make the next flank the opposite button. So it’s Flank1 -> Rear1 -> Flank2 -> Rear2 -> Flank1 etc.
I'll be doing all of them - almost done with the MSQ and then I'll be hitting the leveling hard - right now I have VPR and RDM at 100. Also waiting on this 7.05 patch to see what the changes will bring as I will already need to udpate this Video here. Definitely making more FFXIV Videos.
I know how you feel, for some reason if I can't level up during MSQ I get bored. The remedy for this is to level up another job on the side, but then you lose focus on progressing the MSQ a bit. So prolly' best to not rush and just play at your own pace tbh. If you have too much fun all in one go you wont have fun left to be had later on, it's a bit weird but that's how I feel too.
