Small thing I forgot to mention: - You can only get the Fury Stack from Dragonkick if you have Opo-opo Form active. Simply pressing Dragonkick without Opo-opo Form will not give you a Fury Stack. This why Form Shift is used at the start, since it allows Dragonkick to give the Fury Stack without needing to be in Opo-opo.
Also, both Fire's Reply and Wind's Reply are ranged attack (10 yalms for Wind, 20 yalms for Fire), giving more opportunities when you have to move away from the enemy ;)
Honestly these are the best guides out there imo. I’d rather know what everything does than just blindly try to follow whatever rotation The Balance mathed out. I feel like half the fun is trying to figure out how to optimize yourself
Thank you for the guide! I played MNK back in ShB but I completely was lost at what it did throughout EW and DT. This guide helped me get back into it, thanks!
As a long time monk I've seen the job change so damn much over the years. I kind of liked the feeling of being an engine of death changing gears with every combo, but now it's all there as a passive from the get-go. I also liked being all frantic running circles around the boss to get the positionals. Things are a lot simpler now, which makes things easier for raids, but I have mixed feelings about the overall direction. Good explanation of the basics of monk and all the new stuff he got.
Thank you so much!!!!!! I used to play monk but left it at 62 hadnt touched it in awhile, I decide screw it ill get a boost and get it to 90 since I already did the story and all that on RPR , and OMG IT CHANGED SO MUCH!!! This video was a life saver in helping me figure things out better. I went to go to a striking dummy, and literally was like.. where are my combo actions?! it didnt make sense until your video, so thank you so much!
You say this because you just havent played monk in ultimate when there are so many downtime in so many different portion, every fight, every phase you use a different rotation, optimal drift was the single most fun thing in this game, and now its gone, with nothing else to replace it
I'm fine with the removal of timers personally and thanks to the devs adjusting the fury stack count in 7.01 it plays more or less like EW Monk with new and stronger abilities. I actually played and finished DT before those adjustments though so that was fun.
There is something I noticed about brotherhood and six sided star, and its that SSS now uses all the chakras a d gains +80 with each chakra and that now you can have up to 10 during brotherhood, I always use it on the last and man it hits like a truck, I Don't care if isn't optimal and whatnot, hitting or 100K in a single move with the artifact gear is awesome
Only issue I see is that the recast time means it is probably less than just not using it. It does 1510 potency at max stacks with a ~4s GCD (dependant on speed buffs and all that) In that space of time you can do 2 regular GCDs where dragon kick (weave forbidden chakra), twin snake (weave forbidden chakra) would be the only combination of GCDs that would be lower than 1510 potency. Plus you generate more chakras faster this way and many other benefits. SSS seems to keep its niche as the move you use to dump damage when a boss is about to leave and this change makes it better at that. Plus it gives you a speed boost for incoming mechanics so yeah, great in that usecase but its still better to do you regular combo for raw damage
Concise, informative, and to the point. Keep up the good work, these are fantastic videos! I love how you cover what you want to use each skill for and how they work without taking too long. Don't take this the wrong way, but it reminds me of a concise, sparknotes for lvl 100 vs the wesk alber leveling guides (which i love dearly but have a slightly different focus on rotation at each expac level cap). Keep up the good work! :D
Starting to try mnk again from lvl 90 last night after the significant updates. Definitely gonna need to practice again the rotation. Also that extra bar was a bit confusing and didn't understand what it meant till after this amazing video. Thank you! 😀
Out of all the videos I've watched about this job, which I utterly loathe because of the (at least it feels like to me) completely random feeling rotation and almost didn't want to level from 90 to 100, this is the only one that makes me understand any of it. The one thing that has always bugged me about this job is trying to remember what form is what and why I should care. Just feels like more stuff to remember on top of 'what do I hit next?'. I'm sitting here putting every ability under a microscope looking for the dot that they apparently removed and looking for the buffs you used to get from dragon kick or twin snakes or whatever it used to be. Makes me feel like a jackass. But you simplified it a lot. I'll go see what I can do later after dealing with our raid tonight.
MNK was my first class when I started waaay back in 2.0. I picked it because I didn't see Monk or a punchy-class in many games/MMOs, so figured it'd be fun. It was kinda fun, but through either getting tired of the upkeep with the -multiple- positional attacks and timers as well as trying other classes out more, I found it wasn't quite worth it and swapped over to something else. Still dabbled with it, but never really kept it up to speed much. Skill issue? Maybe, but it was also a "me having fun" issue. Then I recently heard that 7.0 did away with those timers, with the positionals mostly gone long before, and have started to pick it back up. It has begun to be fun again... Now to level it up to the other main classes (it is currently 86 or so). The vid has been a nice refresher on the older stuff, as well as giving a better understanding of the new stuff. Many thanks! One things to add; would one not be able to use Six-Sided Star and then go into Limit Break? While it wastes the movement speed buff, it could be a good way to have "less wasted GCD" as well as pop any chakra if you are between 1-4.
This is why I play samurai lol I like the aesthetics of monk cuz I wanna hit stuff with my bare hands but I have small dps brain so Samurai scratches my monkey brain
I feel kind of confused with monk right now, and sorta don't know what I am doing wrong or if you tips are not full? cause even though you say it with be Form>Dragon >Twin>Demo, It will on the flip side go even with me using Form, it can randomly goes Dragon>True>Demo, Dragon>Twin> Snap, or Dragon>True>Snap. While something like Viper has a similar thing, it is actually easier to control or reset, Monk on the other hand seems to be far more unpredictable and I have been constantly staring at the hotbar more than looking at what I am fighting.
youre guide is great, its just too bad itll become outdated in a few months when they update the game and change monks rotation or skills again lol, I speak as monk main btw

This might sound a bit stupid.... but do you have images of your HUDs for your combat jobs anywhere? Your button layouts make so much sense in my brain that its honestly made doing rotations way easier for me, hell its even made Dragoon finally click for me, but you of all people know you have blurred sections of your actual gameplay so I- embarrassingly must admit- that for the ones you Haven't yet made readily visible I've been recreating my layouts by matching the game icons with the blurred footage you have. It's a frankly unnecessary amount of effort and dedication on my part that I could be minimizing by... asking.
The new Riddle of Wind and Riddle of Fire follow ups have me confused about when to press them. If I want both of my Blitzes to finish with in the Brotherhood/Riddle of Fire timing, I'm not able to hit Fire's Reply before it fades. Or if I hit Fire's Reply, I lose my damage boosts before I finish my second Blitz. Not sure which to prioritize...
It does seem like Monk’s growth in the future is definitely rather flexible. The possibility of evolving other moves while also maybe adding more of those stacks to Fury (since it was previously 1-2-3 but now is at 1-1-2). Either way, been using monk a bit more since I’ve been playing Samurai (and since the two share the same armor, it makes sense to give the armor worn by Samurai to Monk). It is becoming a favorite class for DPS for me, but I still got a long way to go since I’m starting to get close to the end of the main story of Shadowbringers. Still got endwalker before I finally get to Dawntrail.
I don't know about the job being "ruined," but I do wonder why they changed it. Like, they already reworked the job for Endwalker, so why do it again for Dawntrail? It's not as if the job had essential flaws or anything.
It was changed for less timer babysitting on buff management as far as I know although we really only had two to worry about. Either way it's a little easier to play and does great damage now with the potency fixes.
People are whinging that SE is slowly ruining the job by "stripping away the MNK identity." Because maintaining a DoT felt so much like how a monk job should play, right? 🙄 Like, I know this is Final Fantasy, but how did that work in the past, exactly? Did we dip our fists in venom before every fight so that our fists could deal DoT? I dunno, I think using techniques to increase the raw potency of our strikes *feels* a bit more monk to me. But there's other stuff. I've seen serious complaints that MNK no longer has a positional for every single attack, which is something we lost a while ago, and I think was for the best. It maybe wasn't as fun as the people complaining remember it being.
@@CakeorDeath1989 I feel like the idea with demolish doing a dot was like 'demolishing' a foes bones or body part so that it would start bleeding from the attack. Like a concussion or something resulting in brain bleeding.
