While standing on my head, I had thought the lower 5- 3/16" screws were rivets before, I watched your video. Thanks for enlightening me!

Thank you for these excellent videos.
Today I was hoping to easily snap off that door seal to facilitate some much-needed deep-cleaning.
It's not worth removing an otherwise perfectly good door though so it's scrub brush and a headlamp for me today.
I'm sure I'll be back. This channel is one of the best.

Highly recommend buying the magnetic nut driver. Also the taping method didn’t work for me as when i closed the door the lower door deal would shift slightly anyway despite using the tape. I had to take the door fully off to drive the 5 screws in properly. It was a pain getting the door back on. I learned a lot. My back got pretty beat up in the process. Good luck.

My problem was, DW was working fine, started leaking left corner, replaced the rubber seal (all one piece for sides and top), fixed as mentioned further below. If I had to do it again I would have replaced the rubber seal and bottom seal at the same time.
(FYI - Watching with the front panel off and setting it to the side plugged in and start the wash, you can see the stainless steel tray fills with water when the spray arm is active, Looks like the insulation on the door is supposed to absorb any small splash or leaks. If they would have made the tray 1/4" higher I don't think there would be a problem).
Fix - The bottom seal (and probably the rubber door seal) worked for me however, make sure you push the tabs in and tighten as you go and go back and check/tighten each screw again. Do not over tighten and strip it out.
While trouble shooting after replacing the rubber seal (all one piece for sides and top), I removed the old bottom door seal, reinstalled it and it leaked worse, I noticed I didn't have the tabs in. Put them in and tightened up the screws and there was hardly any water coming into the stainless steel tray (designed to hold water). but when the sprayers started it filled the stainless steel tray (like it always does, almost to the top) and would splash over at the left end.
So I thought the spray arm was bad (bought a spray arm and this bottom door seal, just incase... to save a trip.). Replaced the spray arm, still had splash and leaking. Replaced the bottom seal, verified tabs were in, tightened all screws snug, then checked again and tightened again and not any leaks.

If you replace the outer and lower door seal and still are getting leaks it can be clogged filtering from food hair in the dishwasher drain filter, clogged hose, a new drain hose is on backwards, or most likely is the lower spray arm.
Take out the spray arm and try cleaning it , soak it in some Lyme scale cleaner. If still leaks replace the spray arm as may have become warped by heat of the heat cycle
And tip to work on leaky dishwasher. Take them outside and hook up to an outdoor hose so don't get leaks in the house while trying to figure out what's going on.

Ok guys, so i finally figured out what else may be the issue here. See that black rubber gasket? The ends are bent inwards. One of the ends in my dishwasher somehow got straghtened out, and so whenever i closed the door the plastic lower seal would overlap the rubber, thuse creating a gap - hence the leak!

This was a good video, but we have replaced every part on our Kitchenaid, the motor assembly, the spray arm, all 3 door gaskets and it still leaks. Like other people in this post we had our last Kitchenaid for over 20 years. Bought this one with the extended 5 year warranty and it is a piece of crap. We are going to try and take the door seal off again. We have always bought the top of the line Kitchenaid appliances, to replace this dishwasher it would cost us about $2500. After spending over $600 on parts and labour I will never buy another Kitchenaid product. I think I will buy a Samsung or LG even if it doesn’t match my other black stainless steel appliances. If anyone has any other ideas for a fix, it would be greatly appreciated.

This is actually just part of the problems. Most of the times, there is a lot of dirt collected in front of the tray which has to be removed. That seal rarely breaks. Cleaning would be the best choice other than just starting to replace expensive parts (40 bucks for this plastic seal is clearly too much).
BTW, watch out with your fingers as the door has sharp edges when you try to clean the tray (I myself got few cuts).

3 1/2 year old Whirlpool and it's suddenly leaking like a sieve! Just started last week. There's some kind of soft material at the bottom and it's soaked well before the wash cycle is done and water is steadily dripping. I didn't see anything wrong with the bottom seal you replaced, other than some build-up that looked like it could have been cleaned out and reinstalled. Why should this be happening on a unit this new? My previous dishwasher was 23 years old and the only reason I got rid of it was the front panel was starting to rot out at the bottom. Whirlpool quality must be nonexistent!

    • @kevinrussell5099
      @kevinrussell5099 5 місяців тому

@@MBNB85 yes, it was caused by the dish detergent I was using. I had a big tub of powdered dish detergent and started using it after running out of the liquid stuff I'd used for years. Since the leakage started when I ran out of the liquid, it made sense that the powder might have been the problem. No more leaking.

Check the spray arms, take a toothpick or something small to clean out the holes in them. If those are clogged it can cause the unit to leak.
