Still no custom wallpapers. Why do they continue to keep this locked? Other than that these are some great improvements.
I like that the entire dashboard is designed by apple and not just the radio, it gives better continuity.
This also means it will have full communication with the cars CPU. Which can be great for EVs. I Hope Hyundai signs up for this support. I might wait a bit before getting my EV then.
Driver picks the music. Shotgun shuts his cake hole. 3:31
Can you revert back to Hey Siri? Having to say “hey” is no big deal and I don’t wanna deal with the false positives.
Yes.
Yes there’s an option for that.
@axelly they can’t possibly ignore accidental “Siri” commands….. because I get accidental “hey siri” triggers now.
@@gitarzzan1 I haven’t used the new way to trigger siri, but Brandon butch said it was pretty good at detecting when you were and when you weren’t talking to it
There’s a setting to toggle to just say Siri it’s set as hey by default
Great content. Again thank you for adding chapters Andrew much appreciated.
We want our own wallpapers
Here's my thing... if you put in a destination on a map, it should automatically download that map unit you get where you're going... you could have the option to turn this on or off.
I'd love to see an option to just auto download a certain radius around you and auto update it every night when on the charger
There was an option in Waze to do that before Google bought them. Basically let you download tiles of the area around the route in case you accidentally get off course for any reason.
Really like that off-line map for both CarPlay when driving to some of the places we hike, and my Apple Watch when hiking.
Offline maps! Finally! Been waiting for ten years.
So how does CarPlay iOS 17 work? Does the car update or is it via your phone being in iOS 17?
Via your iPhone
No passenger of mine is gonna control my music. The driver gets to chose that stuff lol hand off!
They should have a weather app!
Your narration’s much improved. Well done. 😊 👏
what is the display you have the background?
Will the saved maps also reduce battery drain?
If you use a Carlink device, will we get the upgrade?
I want weather apps in CarPlay looks like iPhone but still no 😂😂
Google maps already has offline maps 🤔
Here’s my one thing about the offline maps (as someone who lives in Arizona and makes frequent trips to and from the valley/Tucson): do they automatically update or do you need to redownload them?
yes they automatically update when connected to wifi
Thank you, kind internet stranger! That makes me feel about better about using this.
I have android infotainmamet system but it supports apple car play so will it support this version?
iOS 17 beta stable enough to install?
Does CarPlay maps navigation support dead-reckoning, when there is no GPS signal, such as inside a tunnel?
Any chance of Apple allowing Netflix or UA-cam, accessible only when car is stationary or parked.
Offline maps is pretty much the main reason I still keep google maps installed
Will iOS 17 work with a iPhone XS?
Will iOS 17 ev maps support the Tesla supercharger network? I understand that Tesla doesn’t support CarPlay but with Tesla’s deal with GM, Ford, Rivian, etc for their North American Charging standard (NACS) it means that many other vehicles that support CarPlay will now be able to use Tesla Superchargers starting next year. Accordingly it’s imperative that CarPlay show the Tesla Supercharger network so that EVs can see the number of chargers that are available in route.
Thanks man
I miss the possibility for trip planing with several unlimited „via“ setpoints on the road to adjust the course l want to drive or POIs which I can named myself. In addition such trip planning must be availble in iPad or Mac and be stored upfront in my cloud drive.
Well, downloadable maps sounds like an Apple Maps feature, not really a CarPlay feature. (and one that Google has had for years). What I was hoping for is less intrusion into my maps screen when making calls, or using Siri, or adjusting the volume. If I'm in an unfamiliar location, I need the map information to stay accessible at all times!
I'd love to see a review of CarPlay in the Polestar 2!
Ya know I use a iphone as my personal for work , and was getting ready to move my personal over as well... I assumed downloading maps has been a feature its been available on google maps for so long I would have never known I always download a map of my state for when im out camping / off grid.
I have a question what if I have Volvo I got like 5 month ago will this feature notify me through iPhone or through a car ? And how can I customized it. Through iPhone or car via settings ?
Offline maps would have been awesome for me last week when I was driving around Yosemite National Park.
Does that mean the new generation of CarPlay will only be available in new upcoming vehicles and not current vehicles?
Still no way to upload your own wallpaper???
EV Charging info. Finally
Can use carplay with android phone?
Question: will offline maps still track your phone via satellite GPS?
Yes
Any chance Carplay will display current speed along with the speed limit (like Waze or TomTom)?
I thought maps already shows the speed limit?
Why don’t your Find My Friends people show up on CarPlay maps? It’s very annoying to have to hold my phone looking at FMF when picking people up.
The microphone quality and setup in a car impact the Siri experience. App,e should add a CarPlay Siri tuning option to make sure it’s set up correctly
It varies by vehicle but sometimes a vehicle will use the bluetooth to use the microphone instead of using the pure digital connection via CarPlay.
Some vehicles depending how they have the microphone setup for the infotainment system will require you to use bluetooth and when it does it uses a compressed audio that sounds like a phone call and in some cars it will show up as a phone call on the unit. It comes down to poor OEM support usually
I love carplay, it was one of the requirements I set for myself when I was looking for a replacement vehicle and I got it in my 2020 Nissan Rogue! It's not wireless carplay, but it works really well!
Wired is better
@@jaysmokin Oh definitely. Faster!
You have an iPhone with latest iOS - Carplay just duplicating your iPhone and display in a bigger screen .... what is the big deal with CarPlay ?
will all current cars with Carplay adapt to the new carplay as long as our phones are on ios17? Or will this be something we have to go the the dealer with for them to update in the system..?
all current cars will work already
The actual electric chargers infor it has been in apple car for the past three updates. I've been using it for almost a year now.
I think though with the new integration and with support by the automakers, the mapping functionality will also know your EVs state of charge, and avg consumption, so it can properly route you to what chargers you should use.
i'd love to know what's the car at 1:10
Kenwood??
What is the compatibility between iOS CarPlay and the corresponding Communication Plug-In , etc al, on the vehicle side? Trying to understanding what might require a vehicle update to handle future iOS CarPlay functionality.
I had the same question. How much of this is handled by data from my iPhone and how much would require a firmware upgrade to my car entertainment system
looks like this new gen of full carplay OS is only coming to brand new cars instead of existing ones.
@@MahomeboyMyGOAT thank you for your response! I was actually asking about CarPlay in general and how it get updated, not specifically about the next gen version of CarPlay that's going to integrate with the car's systems
There are two improvements I would like to see to Apple CarPlay:
1. Full integration of Apple Music Classical. We waited long enough for the darn thing in the first place, and I spend a lot of my time in my car, so I want to use it!
2. A bit of explanation: My iPhone 14 Pro Max is running iOS 16.5.1. When I'm using my iPhone and a call comes in, it only takes over the dynamic island, leaving the rest of the screen visible. And that is not much of a problem. But in CarPlay, when a call comes in, it takes over the whole screen! One time I was driving an unfamiliar route, so I had to consult the map so I could decide whether to turn right or left, and signal that turn, and my wife phoned me at that exact moment, wiping the map off of the screen. That is a BIG problem. (And it was not my wife's fault!)
To me, these are infinitely more important than the new wallpapers, whoop-de-doo.
Great Point and totally agree!
I have found that maps remains in the side bar when the phone rings. After answering, I just touch the maps icon and it switches back to maps while I talk.
@@MegaMAWG I don't have a touchscreen; my control is a dial that I turn and push. Besides, the problem is that the map goes away immediately, and I may need it at any time.
I’ve found that Siri is broken in the Dev beta. CarPlay is very flakey at the moment.
Can car manufacturers be able to update their firmware to support the new Apple CarPlay?
They will use it as selling features lol
offline maps has been in google maps for years now, they are just barely getting it now.
The best example for the car in this use case would be the Lincoln Nautilus 2024
I’m surprised not to see BMW on there.
Maybe I’m the outlier but my car doesn’t support CarPlay or android auto. How much of an improvement is it? I have used it on occasion in rental cars and I’d didn’t seem to make much of a difference to me.
I specifically waited for Honda hrv 2019 to get CarPlay. So convenient and easy. And I had to wait for that car till January 2019 due to flooding of a factory in Mexico. Still. Worth it.
5:17 wow…
GM is coming out with some great new EVs, but I’m really bummed they aren’t planning to support CarPlay. I hope they back track on that decision.
I was just thinking, a consumer has multiple factors when choosing a car. To not support CarPlay can be a real disqualifyer. Especially if you’re lifestyle is already heavy Apple. It’s hard to believe manufacturers still don’t understand that.
@@apok1980 GM is hedging their bets on it not affecting sales. But given they also can pull metrics and stats on who does and doesn’t use it (wifi equipped and maybe CarPlay?) I wonder if Apple provides that data to the manufacturers so they can see if people are using it. CarPlay can pull and send more data than many realize. Its the simplest information about what a user does with their car or iPhone in a car can make decisions like this happen.
@@NCXDesigns I have no stats on users in cars, but working in IT, I know that Apple and Android owns something like over 90% of market share on mobile devices. I think there are a lot of users (mostly older) that use their phones all the time, but have no knowledge about CarPlay or android auto. But I think if they rented a car or had it demoed to them, they would insist on it since they are very familiar with their phones and would like the idea of a similar interface. To me, a really good infotainment system blends the CarPlay or android api throughout the car. I’ve see some good examples. But some car manufacturers seem to be fixated on their exclusive infotainment system. I’ve personally been burned 2 or 3 times, when they actively stop updating or developing on it. I’m not sure if they have to pay a license fee or something and that’s why some avoid it. I’m still curious though why a lot of them don’t think it’s a priority.
I can not wait for SharePlay! No more having to disconnect my phone so someone else I the car can “aux”
Off-line maps Google is saying welcome to 10 years ago 😂😂😂
Heh. But remember the days when you could use maps.... printed on paper!!! 😮
@@coyley72 Thomas Guides for the win. But I off road we still use paper maps along with actual GPS devices.
So you think saying “Siri” is A LOT easier than saying “Hey Siri”. Wow! It may be preferable but in what world is it a lot easier.
Doesn't the manufacturer need to have this new version of carplay added to their car, or can I upgrade the car software to this new version?
Generally no update needed on the car side. Except for the coming features that integrate directly with car data. Or other dashboard screens.
Siri still won’t be able to understand you inside CarPlay no matter how slow you talk….
I just dont get, why Google Maps and Apple Maps only offer this "area download" and not like any other navigation app, that you can download entire countries.
Will we EVER get to use our photos as wallpaper in CarPlay? continues to give us very boring choices for wallpaper, and each “update” brings nothing of note in this area.
How did you type the apple logo?
It’s so stupid that we can’t just use whatever background we want as the wallpaper.
And the new CarPlay UX is called Verbose? Did I hear that correctly?
My car is 16 years old now and is begging to be put down. But I don't want to upgrade until electric vehicles with next-gen carplay is avaliable.
I don’t want to save an area in maps, I want to save the state. Just like I could do a decade ago on other maps apps
I just want Siri to give me an answer. Not here’s 10 websites I found for you. Yeah that’s really helpful when you have your hands full
I’m waiting on custom wallpapers, that’s literally all I want. It’s 2023, why don’t we have this by now?
@2:42 Even still, don't use Apple maps in Iceland. it does not have correct road and routing and frequently sends tourists along closed and impassable roads.
CarPlay randomly disconnects now, I can’t imagine what would happen if it were the on the main console…
I don’t think it works like that 😂😂😂
Me: “Siri play next track”
Siri: “I’m sorry, I can’t find ‘play next track ’in your Apple Music library but here are results from the web I found for play next track”.
🤦🏼♂️
Try: “hey siri, skip track”
Apple really needs to upgrade the CarPlay bitrate which Apple limited to 16bit/48㎑. Bypassing CarPlay and plugging the device directly into the head unit on iPod mode unlocks the full 24bit/192㎑ [or higher] Hi-Res Lossless audio quality. I know the excuses: most people can't tell the difference, the car is too loud to appreciate it, 5G networks can't support the data load....whatever. All I know is when that 24bit/192kHz Clocks by Coldplay hits -it makes 16bit CarPlay sound like an 8-track. And I don't want to go back.
Prospective iPhone user here. Been looking to switch from Android to iPhone so I'm doing some research. Can I just say that it seems carplay is stuck in time? The android auto driving features seem much more driver friendly and up to date.
You probably have a better car than my friend lol she bought a new Kia and I was trying to introduce her to the world of, in her case, android auto, cause I love my apple CarPlay. It was so glitchy with her car. Continuously disconnecting and jumping to a different display window, native to a car system. When I connected my phone to see if it’s a car problem, or an android problem, it worked fine. 🤷🏼♀️ it still might be a car problem for sure. I’m not a fan of Kia myself lol but…
I do wish Google maps or Apple Maps would show current speed on CarPlay. I know Google does it on android auto. For now it’s Wayz for me.
only for few cars
Pay wayyyyy to much for a Jeep Wrangler to not be getting it smh
I don’t understand why I can’t just download the entire country.
I just want streaming apps available while the engine is shut off 🙄
I thought Apple just threw under the rug this new CarPlay
Can anyone explain to me why is in my car with carplay google maps acts much smoother than the apple maps. Apple maps have a very bad FPS, is that a case to any of you also?
Well nothing to get excited about
IOS17 broke my carplay wireless. I had to delete my phone and reinstall to make it work again.
Can you say a thing, then finish with “Siri”?
Saying the name first is the weirdest thing. I only do that when my kid’s been ignoring me for ten minutes…
i thought Renault didnt support apple carplay?!
they are supporting it since 2017🤦🏻♂️
I don't think we're ever going to see the next-gen version of Carplay in the way they showed it off. It's not reasonable to design an interface for hundreds of car models, if anything we only ever see the full set of features they want on a handful of cars that most people can't afford.
This is not true. You’re looking at it the wrong way. Apple isn’t doing to design an interface for hundreds of different car models. That would be absurd. The car makers will pull from what CarPlay does and adapt it to their specific vehicles. The way you see it displayed is precisely how it will look in cars that support it. Apple is working directly with manufacturers.
Apple maps and music are two things most Apple users don't use. So many better choices in the app store. Even with the new upgrades i wouldn't use apple maps
Major issues with this kind of approach is that whilst it's sometimes convenient to have your car I tegrate with your phone, not everyone and not every time may they want their personal data blasting all over the car displays in front of passengers. Also data privacy is a big concern and cars sharing info back and forth is only going to get worse. Giving up all private and personal data to these company in exchange for some courful and pretty icons on a screen is a bad move for the consumer.
Only with Apple Music? No Spotify? Do you have to use a playlist? Most kids don't make playlists anymore they just jump around. Siri, I never use it because like all Siri searches it's way too broad or only shows items that have paid Apple unlike Google that lists everything. Also Siri HAS to have internet even to dial a number in your contacts. Plus it's not a good assistant. Talking to Siri has already accepted just telling it what to do without saying Siri BTW. Basically the new Carplay is just incremental rather than great. Same as iOS17 and MacOS Sonoma. If Apple improved Siri then maybe the experience would improve.
Spotify has a CarPlay compatible app.
Highly doubtful. If it works. Hey good for them. But apple doesn't play well with others.
And most of the time. Car manufacturers have their own system that works the way they want it to work with all the buttons and tech inside the car.
With apple's closed system it's hard to get it working from both sides.
Hmmm... I think you're misinformed on CarPlay my friend. It is currently installed only roughly 98% of all new vehicles. Additionally, many manufacturers, like Ford, have openly praised CarPlay as one of his customer's most asked for features. FCA just last year or so released a new version of Uconnect with updated CarPlay that finally works wirelessly and has been rolling out to all Jeep, Dodge, Ram, and Fiat vehicles.
CarPlay isn't only wifely available, but quite popular and only gaining traction.
That’s sort of the point about the next versions that will fully integrate in supported cars.
So... zero new features.
Do people actually use Siri while driving? Voice controls are so useless. It never works right.
I use it to send short messages. Like “Hey siri, send a message to X saying I’ll be there in 10”. I do it because with messages my navigation screen disappears and this is the option that high jacks the screen for the short period of time.
I use Siri all the time to shuffle my music, or play a specific artist or song. So much easier and safer than taking my eyes off the road.
I use it to disarm my cameras and close my garage. Pretty useful
Great video! I pay for youtube premium. You override that, resulting 👎
This dude is far right apple should deplatform him.
Are you referring to the person in the video (Andrew O’Hara)? What’re his far right views?
Google maps is useless non USA and EU countries. I travel throughout Africa a lot for work and google works just fine. Even when I have 5g cellular and drive in a popular city, Apple Maps refuses to work.
CarPlay is one area Apple is heavily gambling by ignoring the competition and will continue to have a hard time getting widespread adoption. Apple is hoping carmakers will comply due to user demands. However more and more carmakers are straight up going to google for their underlying software and as we know with the death of AM spectrum, in-car ads are going to be inevitable
Ignoring the competition? In what way? First. CarPlay adoption is at an all-time high with more than 800 vehicles touting support. That’s roughly 98% of new vehicles. Also, 80% of users say CarPlay or Android auto are must-have features when buying a car. Other than GM, most other auto makers, like Ford who is the biggest in the US, openly love Apple CarPlay. Sure, they create their platforms on Android but support CarPlay and there’s no data shared. Take the new Uconnect system that uses Android and is MUCH better than the prior generation. Plus has over the air updates, wireless support for CarPlay, and is a lot quicker. Android as a base for the app in-car isn’t a bad thing for CarPlay users. It’s simply an open-source operation system to build on.
Finally, Apple has a whole next-gen version coming this year that will blow anything else away right now. They aren’t stagnant by any means. No reason to build the existing version out when they already have a whole new system coming in a few months.
Ignoring the competition? Name a competitor a part from Android auto which is mediocre at best anyway, that is a threat to Apple? I’ll wait… (Gonna be waiting a loooong time). Apple Car Play is so far ahead of Android Auto let alone manufacturers own in-car software 😂
Even some carmakers that are adopting the google automotive OS, still, support CarPlay, like Volvo and Polestar.
@@AppleInsiderIPadOS 17 can work on this CarPlay
This may be one of the worst takes I’ve seen on the subject. Hard time getting widespread adoption ??
Apple has reached the pinnacle of market domination as they're now poised to make their followers actually purchase a new car just to experience their latest version of Carplay. At this point we might as well just go ahead and make the White House an Apple remote branch.
Same s*hit of truncated and non scrolling song titles ... Who cares about the rest when you cannot read what is the featuring or the composer, or the director ...
