This song came out in 1987, which was the year I graduated high school. I remember driving around in my 1975 Camaro just jamming this song and whole album, which I think is one of the greatest debut albums of all time...great times!
I was just about to post this! Then i looked its been almost a month since this was uploaded. lol
Me too
I was 15 years old that year my sister finished high school that year and my younger sister was born that year.
I had a 76 camaro but I jammed out to the whole cassette tape lol
That is so funny, me and my friends rocked out to GNR's Use Your Illusion II in our Senior year also in a Camero but this song we rocked out to during indoor soccer practice when I was 13 years old and was starting to appreciate music
The hair is "teased". Popular style among rockers in that time. The Jungle was L.A.
But Axl didnt want it at all.
@@brianouellette6903 yeah, this was their first video and Axl was styled that way against his will. He never let it happen again.
Every girl in the eighties had teased hair!
@@jawbone78 WTF you talking about?? Axl had teased hair for years! Just go search UA-cam for GnR 1985 or 86 etc. He dropped the teased hair around 1988 when GnR Lies came out.
@@fionnmaccumhaill3257 yes we did lol
The Jungle = L.A.
The lead singer (Axle Rose) had just come in from a small midwest town and stepped off the bus, and entered literally a different world for him. Someone referred to L.A. as a jungle. But the song is also metaphor for the whole fast life style of a rock star compared to his simple upbringing - the parties, girls, drinking, drugs, bright lights etc.
This was the lead track on their debut album which was pure fire. Along with Boston's debut, this is one of the greatest debut showings of all time.
Two more must listen to tracks off this album: Mr. Brownstone and Night Train
Absolutely! I remember he talked about being strung out and how he met the members of the band. Good times.
Also rage's first album could be put up there.
Michael Jackson's "Dirty Diana" had Slash as lead guitarist!! ❤️ 🎶🎸
Its about the drug game/selling drugs/hustling in the streets in LA to get by to make it as a rock star "if you got the money honey we got Joe disease" "you can taste the bright lights but you won't get them for free" "you can have anything you want but you betta not take it from me" (like rob him for his drugs/money) "when you're high you never want to be down" talking doing drugs here obviously. Drug game in concrete jungle o
1987, not 2009! This is the opening track on their debut album, I still remember sticking on the vinyl for the first time and my tiny mind just blowing up. It was so raw in comparison to their metal contemporaries at the time. Still one of the best debut albums ever.
Lol, I swear Every Reactor says every song gets released in 2009
@@wickedwitness1007 I think that’s cause people confuse the date the actual video was made with the date it was posted on youtube and most older videos were posted around 2009
@@idonteperfect6943 I understand I just find it funny how many people say that
@@wickedwitness1007 Same like especially when you see the video and like the era and everyone in it, but also have you heard their new single, it’s really good and has a very 2000s industrial sound to it, don’t listen to it thinking your getting the 80s and 90s Guns try to remember how inovative they were in each release and you’ll prob like it😂
I know!! I was like 2009??!! 😆
Axl's hair, was teased and sprayed specifically for this video. His hair is normally straight and silky😎🎵🎶🎵🎶💜 What a voice, and Slashes guitar playing is amazing!!🎶
@tracy ingram most beautiful ginger ever
Paradise City is a must listen. 🎧
Lots of party music.
Also Sweet Child of Mine..
Yes, the best!!!
Slash is the most underrated guitar player listen to his riff in November Rain. Damn. Just amazing
Funny story, Axl hated the big hair sprayed up hair but for this video he told them to do it up big because you’ll never see me do it again and he never did! I remember when the album for Appetite For Destruction dropped it put Guns & Roses on the map, rock fan’s were like who is this and been a fan ever since, they just blew other bands out of the water!
What up yall, this was their debut hit, they got so many good ones November Rain is a must off the second LP....1987...wasnt nothing like them when they came out, they rejuvenated rock
I agree. November Rain was so far ahead of its time when it came out. Love love love that song. Crazy that it was 9 min long! Weren’t many 9 min long songs out back then. Badass
@@tommyfey1735 Agree 100%
November rain was on 3 album in 91
Yeah, November Rain was released in 1991 off their 3rd album. This song "Welcome to the Jungle" was released in 1987 off their first album Appetite for Destruction
@@mset510 Yeah I know and I see why my comment is confusing...spaghetti incident I never took seriously
Still the greatest selling debut album of all time. Also they just released their first new music with Axl slash and Duff in 30 years period And I don't care what anybody says it's awesome. fight me.
Amen
Maybe rock but the greatest selling album of all time is Michael Jackson's thriller.
@@chriswildhaber35 mistake, he said DEBUT album, and yes in all music styles.
i will fight you baby, if you take me out to a drink after >.>
@@-.NYX.- lets go out before we fight, bloody bottles, bloody kiss.
Loving the smile on Asia’s face as she’s watching / listening!
This was a spectacular first album. They took the world by storm. It was quick…they fell apart before they got to release too many albums but their impact was huge. A lot like Nirvana right after then.
This song always reminds me of my life when I was in WORST of my ADDICTION, this is best description in song of TRUTH of addiction, no glamorizing. Thank God now 11yrs clean🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
CONGRATULATIONS SWEETIE! CHOICES! 😊
Axl’s hair was teased to the gawds. Slash has a black mom, so he gets his curls naturally, and they are still poppin’.
Actually they hit at the end of the 80’s & hair metal era but damn they hit like a nuclear bomb. Everyone in the group was super talented. The debut album was 🔥 but going from nothing to top of the world split them apart. Had a chance to be an all time great but need more than album & few other songs.
Illusions are masterpieces. Give them some damn respect
@@nachocheez9690 Probably had too high of expectations as I was hoping for next Led Zeppelin. They should’ve stayed a dirty, out of control RnR so in my opinion Illusions was a little too polished. I don’t hold grudges on musical opinions if we all liked same songs it’d be boring. Glad you appreciate their obvious talent.
@@TrojanRabbit521 I agree, they should have kept that " Still hungry" sound and dominate the world, but for me they dropped the ball somewhere along the way.!!! Still love appetite for destruction
Slash (the lead guitarist) put out an autobiography probably a decade ago. I'm not big on reading biographies, but this was one of the BEST BOOKS I've ever read. The telling of how the band came together and fell apart was more legendary than imagined.
Yep, a very unique voice. Check out "You Could Be Mine" which was on Terminator 2 if you want to hear his voice at the top. Love you guys!!
And, I saw them live back in 1992 and to be honest I did not expect much with how he sings. But he kicked butt and sounded great live!!
I think that "Mr. Brownstone" and "Civil War" are my favorite songs
"Civil War" is probably my favorite GnR song. Also, like "Coma" and "Don't Damn Me" a lot.
Civil War gets to my soul...Music just doesn't hit the same anymore.
They came out of nowhere and dominated the rock scene , still unmatched today.
Axels meaning behind the song was that the JUNGLE was a place that offered fame and fortune but also addiction and poverty to the young musicians who gathered there to satisfy their rock star ambitions.
Is that Miss Asia singing in the beginning? She's so gorgeous, I could picture this being her singing voice.
This song is about Los Angeles. It exposes the dark side of the city many people encounter when they go there to pursue fame. ... They explained that a famous lyrics from this song originated when Axl Rose spent a night in a Queens schoolyard before joining the band.
When GNR came out I was in high school. They absolutely EXPLODED onto the scene with their album Appetite for Destruction! Every single song is great! Pure perfection and I had the honor of seeing them play live! The chemistry between Axl and Slash was electrifying! Absolutely Amazing memory for me! GNR FOREVER!!!
I was at a G N R concert in 1989, he told the story of a small, older black man that came up to him when he got off the bus in LA, the man said to him "Welcome to the jungle baby, you gon die" and the small, older black man laughed and walked away.
This was my junior year, so 1987. They were huge immediately. One of the first cassettes I bought. LOL. The hair is teased and lots hair spray. I had big hair too. It was a daily process. Haha ha ha... So funny to reflect.
I was in 8th grade when this came out and was my gateway drug to metal \m/
What a time to be alive. 80s rock was it. Especially for us young people living in the jungle at the time. It was wild af.
The jungle was a reference to the gritty and seedy Los Angeles music scene in the 80s, filled with predators and prey alike. Axl referenced trying to survive on that scene akin to trying to survive in a jungle of sorts.
Omg! I went to several of their concerts back in the day. They were amazing and put on one hell of a show!
This song came out in 1989 and it was a song about him arriving in LA from a small town in a midwest farming state.. the culture shock he got from home to the streets of LA in the late 80s
I have come back I cannot tell you how many times to watch this ! I love this song !!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE was the first Guns N Roses song I ever saw of theirs. It popped up on TV and I just froze as I watched it. And when it finally finished, I literally said ..... "What the f### was THAT!!!!". HUGE fan ever since. Their APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION album is a timeless classic ..... the whole album is good. Their music is still good TODAY.
I was in high school. When it came out. Changed the way I play guitar forever
The entire album is AWESOME 🤩
The Cincinnati Bengals played it in there stadium originally because there stadium is called The Jungle...now its played at all sporting events...
When I was in high school my drama teacher said a woman in her book club's son and his band was about to hit it big as a rock band. The next year this came out! Turns out he was from Lafayette, IN, about 40 miles from me!
Came out in 1987... off the album "Appetite for Destruction" which is definitely worth exploring further.... lots of bangerz.
When someone asks what the greatest Rock song of all time is, tell them 'Welcome to the Jungle' by Guns N' Roses.
I love you Kids!! I so remember hearing this tune for the first time. It created a shift from mindless headbanging BS back to Rock and Roll.Throughout the years and all of the member changes, they remain the perfect example of chemistry and art. Thank you for bridging the cultural differences. In our hearts, we all are the same.
God I remember buying the cassette tape when it came out LOL. That was so long ago. But it's an amazing album. Every single song. My Michelle is my favorite song off of that
Love this song. Still remember when it first came out. Was in my 20s. And you two are just cool as hell!!
"The Jungle" was referring to two things mainly in the song. It was talking about LA and the harsh reality of living there, especially during the 80's, and also the lifestyle of sex, drugs, and rock and roll. It's all about how that lifestyle and the city can and WILL abuse you and spit you out if you're not ready.
Seeing you liked this song so much I can almost guarantee you will both like, Sweet Child O' Mine. It has over 1.2 Billion views.
this entire album is FIRE!!!
also November Rain doesn't suck, but it aint all that either...;)
November rain was good but the album it was on wasn't nearly as good as the second one. Use Your Illusion 2 was way better than 1 imo.
@@joshuas193 I agree
Classic song, not sure what you mean?!?!
@@joshuas193 use your illusion 1 is so much better than 2
November rain is fire!!! 🔥🔥🔥 do the music video
They made part of my youth school days. Now react to "civil war ", "don't cry", "you could be mine". So many good songs from them
I wanted to share this little tid bit. Guns & Roses and Eazy E & NWA had mutual admiration for each other as music artists. During a concert in 1988 Axl Rose sported an NWA had, showing them admiration & support. They met and partied together and became friends. They were supposed to go on tours together. During these times, it was unheard of for rock/metal groups to associate with rap artists, with exception to Run DMC & Aerosmith. It would have been awesome if they collaborated on a song or two together.
When music sounded fawkin GREAT ...Oh i miss those days like the desert misses the rain....
This was the first song played on the movie "Lean On Me" with Morgan Freeman
Good movie
1987. Appetite for Destruction. Every song on that album rocks!!! High school dazes…. 💕💕
This song is played around the start of the 1989 movie starring Morgan freeman Lean on Me.
My first concert Guns & Roses opened for Motley Crue still one of my top 5 concerts
I saw them perform live in late 80’s. I was in high school. Every girl was in love with Axl Rose! GNR is one of the GOAT!!! Electricity was in the air seeing them live. Unforgettable!!
Growing up in the late 80s and 90s, Guns N Rose's was my favorite band. I'm a hip hop head now, but this kind of rock has a special place for me, since I was forced to listen to it by my mom back then lol
Paradise City, Sweet Child o mine, November Rain!!!
can't wait to see y'all dive down the Guns n' Roses rabbit hole. too many great songs to mention here.
There first album is sweet child of mine/appetite for destruction Aloha from the paradise love you guys timeline keep the faith stay in good spirits and best of health ciaos
The only hair band from the 80's to survive Nirvana, cause they were OG fire.
Hahahaha "survive Nirvana" ... Preach!
What is your age goofy?
Bon Jovi? Def Leppard? Also, GNR weren’t a hair band.
Listen to bon jovi great band
@@wendellwright3152bon Jovi is garbage
If you were referencing the lead guitarist curly hair with the top hat, that's slash, his hair is natural, he's mixed
Per WIKIPEDIA::::: Saul Hudson was born in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire on 23 July 1965. He was named after Romanian-American cartoonist Saul Steinberg. His mother, Ola J. Hudson (née Oliver; 1946-2009), was a black American-born English fashion designer and costumier whose clients included David Bowie (whom she also dated), Ringo Starr, and Janis Joplin. His father, Anthony Hudson, is an English artist who created album covers for musicians such as Neil Young and Joni Mitchell. Of his mixed background, Slash later remarked, "As a musician, I've always been amused that I'm both British and black; particularly because so many American musicians seem to aspire to be British while so many British musicians, in the 'Sixties in particular, went to such great pains to be black."
This album took the listeners by storm, visceral and authentic rock and roll. Legendary, though i admit i didn't listen to them in the late 80's, but everyone where i worked was playing it.
I have an ECHL hockey team here in my city that play this song all the time as their entrance theme when they get introduced
Recorded and released as their debut album in 1987
Not too many people know that when MTV was just starting ,1987 I believe, MTV said they weren't looking for hard rock and would not even consider Guns and Roses. Somehow their manager or someone got MTV to change their mind and gave them one slot 3am Mon morning (dead zone). When they played Welcome to the Jungle 10,000 calls came in at once and their switchboard got fire🤣🤣Also in Sweet Child of Mine, at the end of Slash's solo Axl said I don't know where to go from here and that became the lyrics.
Patience,paradise city,November rain,used to love her,crazy,night train,Mr brownstone,knockin on heaven's door,get in the ring,etc !
This was the 80's! Maybe someone put the video up later....but this was big time late 80's
besides perms and curling hair, there was a lot of back combing back then to get the messy level
the song is about moving out to LA and what it Jungle it was on the streets and trying to make it
Man this is a great song. Axel Rose has definitely got killer vocals and well heck you don’t have to say anything about Slashes talent. Hell, that’s a gimme!!
Guns and Roses own the bestest debut album ever. Even if Boston and Pearl Jam and N.W.A. have something to say. The song itself is about the URBAN jungle of Los Angeles.
Bringing me back to HS.. loved my Hair Bands back in the day! Still love them actually.. it's sad what happened to the band and Axel but when they were good... they were fire.
I remember this song from Lean on Me when they transition to the run down ruined school.
Entire Album is MUST!🔥🤟
Let me put it to you this way, I was born in 81. This song came out in 87. I was jammin to this song at 5 yrs of age. ;) You're welcome.
best and nastiest rock song ever, I was 10 when this came out, a shock.
I remember where I was when this song came out in 1987. We had never heard anything like it. I was born in 1965
Slash is a badass...period. Appetite For Destruction is a legendary LP...not a bad cut on it.
In 1988 they were the opening band for The Cult. GNRs went on to overshadow The Cult. IMO I am a big Cult fan too.
This was in the movie The Dead Pool with Clint Eastwood 1980s. Jim Carrey had a bit part where he played a rock star that sings this song.
This song is from their first album which came out in 1987. It's their best album. You should review each song from it separately 1 at a time.
Everyone always misses that crazy scream at the beginning Axl does
Awesome jam yeah MTV days 🎸🎸🎤🥁👌😎🤘
Love this song!🔥🤘🏽🥃
80’s rule- especially Live. Music was literally falling out of the sky. 🎼❤️🤘😎🔥
Nothing better than this song playing before Kickoff in the Jungle for the Cincinnati Bengals Home Games!!!!! #whodey
FREAKing yes!!!! such an amazing song!!! BJ rockin hard to the song!
This came out in 1986 or 87 bcuz I saw them on tour promoting their first album in later 1987....great show n def great 80s rock song !!
This was my reaction when i got this tape in 3rd or 4th grade. Blown away! Saw them in Fenway Park last week. I'll love GnR forever!
1987 this came out best debut album ever
Axel rose the lead singer has teased hair the Lead guitar slash has natural curly hair
Word jungle in this song is used as a metaphor for city. He is trying to say that you are not safe here in city like you are not safe in the jungle.
I love the drummer Steve Adler
Great reaction guys!! Do more Guns N Roses please!!😁 Their whole Appetite for Destruction album is 🔥 🔥🔥
Such a great song! Thankfully he got did of the crazy hair pretty quickly
You guys probably gonna love Its So Easy or Mr. Brownstone, different vibe but still bangers
Video was put on UA-cam in 2009. This song dropped back in the late 80's.
I was in middle school and my buddy's big brother came to pick us up from school. He had this blaring on the car stereo. I was blown away. I was a big Iron Maiden and Judas Priest fan back then and GnR was something completely different and new. They really did change the face of the rock scene. They helped transition rock out of the hair metal era.
2009 is when THIS copy of the song & vid were UPLOADED to UA-cam. The ORIGINAL release date was WAY BACK IN 1987
Appetite (1987) arguably the best rock album of all time. 🔥
I’m reliving my childhood & teenage yrs thru ur alls vids today. Haha
You may have heard this before from the beginning of the movie "Lean on Me" with Morgan Freeman I believe. Which of course also featured the song Lean on Me haha.
Ahhh. The 80’s. Loved it. Glad I grew up then. L.A in the 80’s Lot s of drugs sex rock n roll. Awesome times
His hair wasn’t permed it was teased up. In the 80 a lot of people with straight heated used Aqua Net hair spray to get that big hair teased look.
Slash said he accidentally shop lifted the hat and it became his signature. Said that on howard stern
WINGER-- HEADED FOR A HEARTBREAK
This song came out around 87 or 88 not 2009. That's probley when this video was posted. The jungle in this song is LA, but back in the day any big city was called the jungle.
