It was the 80's..it was excess in excess. Lots of fun. You can't really get it from videos. You had to live it. Most younger people don't understand that. Rock On!
"Welcome To The Jungle" is an all-time classic, to be sure, and GnR's debut album, Appetite For Destruction, is the best-selling debut rock album ever. And the album is almost like a greatest hits album, as most of the songs on the album are classics today ("Mr. Brownstone" being my favorite).
In the 80's there was a trend that became synonymous with 80s metal bands, and that was that small town people would come into LA from off the bus, thinking they would make it because of their talents. However, the city ended up eating them alive because they have never been in a city before, let alone a city like LA in the 80s. This song was a very accurate depiction of what those unsuspecting people had to look forward to. Everyone was out for themselves or to make a quick buck, no matter the consequences or at whose expense. There was rampant drug abuse, exploitation, and homicide, but everyone wanted to go to LA because it was the epicenter of 80s metal.
I was born in the very late 70’s, very late! And as soon as I heard the first notes, in my early, of the first song, of theirs debut album just knew this was no ordinary band, with an ordinary run of the mill album! It gets put around far too often but it’s was, is a total game game changer! Appreciate For Destruction is truly legendary all the way from Welcome to the Jungle to Rocket Queen!
Just watched this. I loved guns n roses I'm from the UK but was instantly hit by Axl's artistic take of inner city LA compared to being a jungle. The dog eat dog world of desperation and criminality was something he found himself trying to survive. Even his voice and his screams show that he's become the animal. In his real life he came from the country to LA and lived homeless for 2 years fighting everyone and his own childhood demons. Axl was honesty and true raw emotion, I loved that in his vocal style..
Always think of the movie "Lean on me" whenever I hear this song. Probably the best song for that scene. Its probably like 5min or so into it. If you've never seen it I highly recommend it Great movie
This song was written in response to Axl Rose's experiences after moving from a small town in Kansas to Hollywood and encountering the drastically different culture there.
The concrete jungle. His interpretation of the city streets. Slash is one of the most famous guitarists in the world. His iconic bolo and hair made up his iconic style. Guns and Roses was on of the most popular rock bands of the 80's. They were crazy partiers and were known for destruction. They still tour today to a packed house.
Narrowly speaking, it’s about surviving the Hollywood rock scene of that era. A lot of these people came out to Hollywood in the late 70’s-80’s to find their rock stardom and this song captures that energy perfectly. 🤘🏼
Axl's inspiration was clearly Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant, like so many other heavy metal lead singers. Even Slash's guitar sounds a lot like Jimi Page live in The Song Remains The Same movie.
I was in my mid teenage years when this was released, loved it. I just took my teenage son to a GNR concert, and he loved it. Although axl cannot reach those high notes anymore they, still put on a good solid 3 hrs performance.
I seen this in Headbangers Ball, and the next day I bought the album. Which back then was a cassette. By far the best music I had heard up to that point, and it stands up to the test of time! Great album, great band! edit. By far the best contemporary music. I hadn’t heard TOOL, yet, and at the time I had heard better music, Led and Floyd.
The guitarist is Slash. One of the greats. He was later in the band called Velvet Revolver (they did the song "Come on, Come in" that is in the 2005 fantastic four movie).
Lex, you are into metal with a capital M. I was at a Metallica concert where the fans burned a gins and roses hat and everyone cheered. Others may have commented on this already, but I like the song because it gives you a very specific idea of what a large city does to you, especially if you're there looking for fame. I have to say, I love the lyrics because they are powerful, sleazy, sexy, and everything you'd find along your way tot he top, only to be chewed up and spit out by the city itself. It's pretty hardcore, for me anyway. Great lyrics. I hope you take time to analyze them. Love your videos! Rock on! \m/

One of the best opening songs on an album ever
Best opening track from the best debut album ever!!
Civil War by GnR, would be a good convo piece for you two
Great song
💯
Late 80s and early 90s hit machine. Axl has an amazing voice and Slash shreds
“Paradise City” should come next
Ooh Yes !!!
They did paradise city, sweet child o mine and rocket queen last night in the live chat. Hopefully they will post them all.
Civil war is a great
@@christym82 thank you 🙏🏼
@@christym82 no November Rain?
One of the bad ass rock songs of all time . Inner city life
GNR reminds me of being a kid in the late 80s! Good memories!
Still remember when my brother brought the casette tape home and I played it when he was out with his friends. It was a pure wtf is this moment. Lol
Me, too!
I just rewatched that movie last week! I forgot it was in that one.
That scene is downright epic. Great movie.
This song is about him first arriving into LA in his early 20s
To REALLY get a full sense of Guns & Roses, do:
• Paradise City
• Sweet Child O Mine
• It’s So Easy
You don’t need anything else.
I think November Rain has to be on any GnR shortlist.
Rocket queen
Not Nightrain? Cmon
My Michele is a fuckin rocker too
Pretty much this whole album.
This song was written in response to Axl Rose's experiences after moving from a small town in Kansas to Hollywood and encountering the drastically different culture there.
Indiana
@@peterraczynski7157 You're right Lafayette, Indiana. Thanks
He talking about he’s life in LA and how hard it is. You should watch he’s documentary.
Yes it's a real shame they can now only pack out a house, i remember the good old days when they could pack out a stadium.
aXLE rOSE WAS TRAINED IN HIS VOICE BY A WORLD FAMOUS OPERA SINGER
Narrowly speaking, it’s about surviving the Hollywood rock scene of that era. A lot of these people came out to Hollywood in the late 70’s-80’s to find their rock stardom and this song captures that energy perfectly. 🤘🏼
You could literally do this whole album. Not a bad step in the whole thing
Guns N’ Roses you definitely can go down the rabbit hole with them. They have so many great songs and some epic ones at that
Axl's inspiration was clearly Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant, like so many other heavy metal lead singers. Even Slash's guitar sounds a lot like Jimi Page live in The Song Remains The Same movie.
But way better
Not heavy metal. Rock ‘n’ roll!
I wish I could explain how it felt when GnR came on the scene. We knew instantly how special this band was.
This was the song played at my High School Football games.
Check out GNR- Paradise City
"his voice is very distinct, i dont think any amount of mastering is gonna change that" 😂😂😂😂 Love this
Iconic rock album!
Its about his first time in the streets of LA. Welcome to the jungle ...welcome to the streets of LA.
G&R one in a million reaction with lyrics. That will definitely get the comment section talking.
Check out: November Rain, Patience, Civil War
Lex was 100% right, Axl wrote this about his experience of hitting the streets when he got to California for the first time.
You really want to hear Axl's range, listen to It's So Easy.
This has gotta be one of the best songs in rock history
Slash, the guitarist, played on "Dangerous" *edit*. He's played with a lot of artists.
Slash played on “Dangerous.” EVH and Steve Lukather played on thriller.
@@mysteriousbeaver666 That's right, I forgot. Lukather played the rhythm and Eddie Van Halen also played the solo on "Beat It".
A young Axel was a site to behold. So much energy and life.
Lex, you are into metal with a capital M. I was at a Metallica concert where the fans burned a gins and roses hat and everyone cheered. I like both but you are obviously on the Metallica side 😃
Keep up the reactions guys and Lex, don't let them tell you to not go crazy, do you think everything is calm at the gigs, no, go for it! I always smile when you get into it Holy wars Megadeth reaction is my favourite 😃
Her facial expression when she first seen Axl Rose dancing is priceless.
Their cover of Knocking on Heaven's Door live. Axl has about 14 different voices. They're all fantastic
I hated that version sorry
This song is like an unofficial mentor or a pro giving the newbies a run down of the place they just came to. Like a hard core Onboarding. Lol. My favorite line is 'u can have anything u want, but u better not take it from me'.
If you got the money honey, we got your disease. Classic.
Rock on! \m/
Guns and Roses - "Mr Brownstone"or "Night Train" 😉👍
All he Best and keep up the imaginative and highly articulate descriptions of these tracks you are right more then you are wrong
Long Live Brad The Ballad Boy & Lex The Rock Chick
You Always Turn it Up More too 11!
Axl has one of those voices you either love or hate imo, like Bob Dylan, Billy Corgan or Dave Mustaine.
Except Axl is a better singer than those guys, in my opinion of course.
