Great first instalment, looking forward to seeing how rest of of it goes! Looked like a tough couple of days and love your honesty. Hope the baboon butt clears up! 🙈🤣 Genius idea using the lip balm - just don't get them mixed up! 😳
That's some distance you two trek'd out in they two days Robin nae wonder you have got blisters and a sweaty you know whit! Some beautiful scenery right enough @6:47 looks brilliant what a view!!! Looking forward to the rest of the walk 👍
Excellent stuff Robin. Good plan to take the ferry across at the start and save some road walking. Its a worry when you get blisters as it plays on your mind throughout the trail. Looking forward to the next episode. I think Ian is the real brucie bonus, looks like a character to keep you amused over the trail. ATB.
Arghhh, you've made me think about distance hikes when I've just got my mind onto the Munros again 😂 There's just so many options for outdoors in Scotland and this has to be one that I tick off. I believe that you're well versed in outdoor gear but honestly look into the North Face Ultra Fastpack boots for trails. That's the vibrant green ones I use. They're goretex, light weight and honestly the comfiest things I've worn for hills in years! Great to see so far and looking forward to seeing the rest (even better when there's no stinky wrap in sight 😉)

Cracking video Rob some amazing countryside blisters on the first day and ring sting on the second day I hate to think what's going to happen on day three 🤣🤣 looking forward to seeing your next video mate atvb Jimmy 😎😎👍👍
Enjoyed that one Robin. Looks like a stunning trail and a very challenging one from what I’ve read. Shame about the blister but looks like you got the compeed on it in time. Always seems to take a lot of trial and error to find a shoe/sock combo that keeps them at bay. Look forward to following your journey on the trail
Cheers Anthony. The blisters were annoying as both Iain and I have hill walked for years and hardly been bothered by them. Then you try and change things up a bit. 🙈
Great work you guys! Nicely put together video...so impressed that you have the energy to do the filming as well as the hiking! Really enjoy the hyperlapse footage...great addition to the story. Hope the bum cheeks recover soon...could possibly be caused by having three layers down there?...Looking forward to the ongoing adventure.
Cheers Steve. It got difficult at times to keep focused on filming when you're tired, but I think on the whole it worked out. 🤞🏻 I think you're spot on, it's only really guys that wear shorts over running tights and I think the shorts I used were too warm on the nice sunny days.
That looked so beautiful, but so tough! Munro-level elevation on Day 2, carrying all your camping gear and food. I did half of the West Highland Way a couple of years ago carrying my tent. It was bliss, but the weight of the food was the biggest problem, and that was only for 3 days and nights. I had metatarsal numbness for about 8 months afterwards, and I wore walking boots. And despite all the food I took, it still wasn't quite enough - I was starving when I got home!
I know what you mean, we had 4/5 days worth of food to begin with and you're aware of the additional weight from a weekend backpacking trip. Like you when I got home, I was starving too and couldn't stop eating. 😋
I’m so thankful for this video, I’ve always dreamed about walking from where I live in Glasgow to my home in Lochinver. I’ve always had a few ideas as to how but this would definitely be the best route! Thank you! (I can take the west highland way to Fort William)

Excellent stuff. Great weather for it. This series is gonna become addictive 😕 Can't wait for 2nd installment. Looking forward to hearing about the kit.
Cheers Gavin. We got pretty lucky with the weather. Missed the worse of all that cold weather that came in. Will do a kit break down too at some point.
Minteid. Thought you'd been quiet with the videos but this is class! Weird seeing all the paths you cross or walk a short way on when doing Munros and Corbetts. You got a cracking spell of weather too.
Cheers Iain. Weird how you mention that as I noticed and enjoyed how the CWT linked up many of the Munro/Corbett routes, almost like filling in blanks. 😁
Good start Robin, despite the blisters and err... 'other problem' 😁. I've attempted the CWT twice and still haven't completed it for one reason or another. On both of my attempts (the first time was in 2000) I used the original North to the Cape book so the route you did was all new to me, the two routes converge in Glen Dessary. If/when I get around to having another go, I will try the Glenfinnan route. All the best, Gary.
Cheers Gary. Iain has that book too. Been a few updates since then. Even my version of the Cicorone guide had been updated. The Great Glen variant doesn't look as appealing.
@@WalkWithWallace The original North to the Cape book goes across on the ferry and then follows the road alongside Loch Eil for around nine miles. It then crosses the road to Glenfinnan before passing close to Gulvain en route to Strathan. The road section is tedious after the first couple of miles but the route is shorter. I've done it twice over the years and got to Shiel Bridge in four days both times without pushing it. I don't fancy the GGW option either because for me, Knoydart is one of the highlights. ATB 👍

Interesting start Robin and not all in a good way, looking forward to seeing how it all pans out. Blisters are a right pain in the arse (pun fully intended).
My mate had to bin the West Highland Way 2 days in after a wrong choice of footwear, which crippled his feet. Must admit the sound of the river would keep me awake (light sleeper). Bad news about the blisters, makes it a painful hike and not too keen on that adder mind. I had a strangulated hernia once but never a strangulated ankle😂, nothing better than a good scan mind and I bet burger and chips hot the spot. That was an awesome sight at 11.10, what a view that was and taking about a views, thank goodness your spared us the details😖. I dread to think what the next day will bring😂😂. Cheers Alan
Aw what, you can't beat the noise of a gentle steam. 😁 Ouch with the hernia Alan. 😦 My ankles and feet survived this one. Where you off to next in the Lakes, did I see a new vid pop up? 🤔
@@WalkWithWallace we are back next week for 5 days celebrating our Ruby Wedding Anniversary. Unsure how much walking we will be doing but there will be plenty of eating and drinking 😅
A class video with funny bits,! Your blister issue I use baby lotion on feet after years of foot problems, I find a thin base sock helps as they are a tight fit so less friction! I always use a baby type creame not as thick as sudacream for bum lube and have no rash issues! Keep up the great video's. Mark.Shaw.
Cheers Mark. I was using Gehwol foot cream to begin with as a lot of hikers rave about the stuff, I didn't get on with it though. These blisters were human error for me. I didn't tighten my laces across the whole foot allowing a bit of heel rub. School boy error. Sudacreme is a bit thick now you mention it. 😄
There must be a few lost walkers stuck in that bog, some seriously deep bits. 😅 @ bidet. Not seen one of them for years, my old Italian mate, his parents had one! 😅
Class wee watch Robin👌 look forward to the next part....got delivery of the Easton stakes today aswell and must say your spot on cracking bits of kit 👍
No way..... blisters day one..... what a blow, I so hope it's just a wee one and stays that way..... should have packed the Vaseline 😂 CWT just testing you both so early on 😩 At least the weather was kind..... fantastic scenery colour. Thank you both look forward to the next episode 😄 👍🏔
Both of us are experienced hill walkers and never get bothered with blisters , yet that happened on Day 1. 😳 I tried that Gelwol foot cream, but found it gave me a heat rash on my feet.
Blister and arse-chafing are never a winning combination but at least the weather has given you a good springboard for a positive start. Looks a fantastic walk already and looking forward to the next instalment. Cheers, Chris
Really enjoyed that Robin, aye the blisters and sore backside bits, I love watching other folks pain😁I’m sure you’ll keep me entertained with a lot more of it before Cape Wrath. Only joking, I hope the journey goes well for you😇
Watched this last week and never got round to commenting - chuffed to bits part 2 is out tonight, a week is far too long to wait Robin - but I sincerely hope your bottom is on the mend. Either wear no pants or breathable cotton ones. We get a similar condition at work - it's called 'chef's arse'... too much heat and friction and the results are catastrophic! Ouch!! Great to see you doing the Cape Wrath, out of all the Scottish trails this is the one that seems the most hard work and rewarding. TFS :)
Hey Donna, cheers for dropping in again to comment. I know what you mean about the one week gap, I suppose I'm just letting the first video bed in before firing up the next episode. That was the first time I've had 'chef's arse' in a long time 😂 I think it was all the layers, underwear, tights, shorts and a tucked in baselayer. 😁
Fantastic start to the series, looking forward to the next one. I've got a multi day trip planned later this year, will hopefully pick up a few tips and learn from your mistakes 😄 Seriously though, looks like a fantastic trip, hope it went a bit smoother than the first few days
Enjoyed the first instalment, Robin. I've not yet seen anyone walk it from the south. A shame about the blister and your bum(!)... Hopefully it didn't ruin the rest of your hike. Looking out for day three and more. All the best.
Cheers Olly, I think it's more common starting from the south. Finishing at the lighthouse is more appealing than Fort William. However getting the logistics out of the way first does make a northern start advantageous. 😁
Nice one mate. Enjoyed that. 👍👌 Looking forward to part 2 next week... Good memories of ma walk from Corryhully to Sourlies. Poorer weather tho 😏 2 mins in, Hermit camp there?
Cheers Kev, the next vid will jog your memory even more mate. 😎 Did Hermit camp quite early on then? I remember he caught a later ferry. I'd have to watch it again.

Thinking about the TGO Challenge for 2022.... Be safe out there guys!
😳 Should've worn your faithful Montane trousers! Not ideal getting a blister on the first day either, hope it didn't cause you too much trouble. Enjoyed the first video of the series 👍
That crossed my mind, the old Terra pants tried and tested over the years without any issues. The thinking behind the tights was keeping ticks right out as I'm not a fan of gaiters these days.
Loved the vid Robin. I wouldn't blame you if you only went as far as Sourlies the next day. I found the stretch from A'Chuil to there more challenging than expected.
Good stuff so far Robin. Shame about the blisters and the dinosaur* so early in the trip, hope both ease as you go.
@@AlanMETALMAN have a good one Alan and Mrs Metalman. You got married a few months before I was born. 😲 She must be a keeper. 😊
Nice, looking forward to this series Spotted a Flex Capacitor - really enjoying mine. Cheers
Cheers mate. Yes, I'm really enjoying the Flex Capacitor too, just couldn't get used to the Osprey Levity, even though it was a comfortable pack.
Great footage looking forward to the next one. The CWT is definitely a good challenge.
Cheers Eddie. It certainly is, glad I finally got on the CWT after years of talking about it.
Get ready for the CWT blues
@@eddiefitz1970 aye back to work this week, bang to reality. 😣
HULLO , HULLO 😂
Good wee vid Robin , i enjoyed that.
Good background music to
😂 Haha. Cheers mate.
Glad you like the music as it features throughout. 🎶
Nice one Robin. Shame about the blisters and know that feeling well.
Cheers Ray. I was a bit worried the first night. Didn't want Man versus Blisters like you, as there's only going to be one winner.
Great stuff Robin , blisters sore arse I hope they both ease I mean get better lol . Onto the the next one atb Dave
Cheers Dave. Not the best start ever, but not show stoppers either. 😁
Awesome robin, that boggy patch near a'chuil is pretty mental am scared of it. get a bidet if u don't have one they are luxury for 'the condition' 🤣⭐⭐
There must be a few lost walkers stuck in that bog, some seriously deep bits. 😅 @ bidet. Not seen one of them for years, my old Italian mate, his parents had one! 😅
Ha, i nearly lost both shoes in that cursed bog. Uyicoo backpacking bidet, gamechanger😇😃, looking forward to part two
Good start Robin, I am sure you will work it out as you go.
Cheers Bob. Aye nothing too bad so far. 👣 👍🏼
Magic video, roll on next episode, ATB 👍
Cheers Raymond. 😁 👍🏼
Good stuff mucker , excellent ..nothing worse than a sweat rash on the cheeks ...chub-rub lol ...Looking forward to the next part ...cheers Stevie
Aye, it was stinging like a stingy thing mate. Thank god for that spare balm. 😁
Class wee watch Robin👌 look forward to the next part....got delivery of the Easton stakes today aswell and must say your spot on cracking bits of kit 👍
Cheers Scott. The Easton nails are excellent. Did you get a mix of 6" and 9" ones?
@@WalkWithWallace aye I bought both the 6" and 9" on your advice. Came in time for my planned camp on Saturday aswell 😄
@@Scotts_Scottish_Adventures nice one mate, my only gripe is I wish they came in packs of 6 not 4. 😄 Hope your trip goes well mate. 🏕
@@WalkWithWallace defo a marketing ploy to make you buy 2 lots of 4 with each 😅cheers 👍looking forward to seeing your next couple of days on the CWT
@@Scotts_Scottish_Adventures definitely. Highland Dancers. 😁
No way..... blisters day one..... what a blow, I so hope it's just a wee one and stays that way..... should have packed the Vaseline 😂
CWT just testing you both so early on 😩
At least the weather was kind..... fantastic scenery colour.
Thank you both look forward to the next episode 😄
👍🏔
Both of us are experienced hill walkers and never get bothered with blisters , yet that happened on Day 1. 😳 I tried that Gelwol foot cream, but found it gave me a heat rash on my feet.
Walk With Wallace 👣Hi Robin, tried many things over the years and found compeed to be the best for me.....
Good weekend mate.
👍🏔
@@discoverydave8541 definitely, normal plasters don't cut it. Have a good one yourself mate. 👍🏼
Blister and arse-chafing are never a winning combination but at least the weather has given you a good springboard for a positive start. Looks a fantastic walk already and looking forward to the next instalment. Cheers, Chris
Cheers Chris, the blisters were a worry to begin with. Glad I nipped them in the bud quickly. But the weather was a Brucey Bonus. 😁
Really enjoyed that Robin, aye the blisters and sore backside bits, I love watching other folks pain😁I’m sure you’ll keep me entertained with a lot more of it before Cape Wrath. Only joking, I hope the journey goes well for you😇
Haha, cheers Russell. Don't want to give too much away, but there's other wee things we have to deal with along the way. 👣 😁
excellent first couple of days looks an awesome trail hope the baboon butt clears up, look forward to the rest of the series.
atb daz
Cheers Daz, aye the lip balm worked a treat. 😂
this trail is on my bucket list , prob gonna attempt it next yr..looking forward to watching yr adventures!..ATB WJ
Cheers Jay, I'm hearing the trail is really busy now. Next year might be a good option. 🤔
well done guys, blisters & baboon arses, I can only imaging whats coming next.
Haha, steady there. 😆
Love it, can't wait for next upload
Cheers. RS. 😁 👍🏼
Fantastic start to the series, looking forward to the next one. I've got a multi day trip planned later this year, will hopefully pick up a few tips and learn from your mistakes 😄
Seriously though, looks like a fantastic trip, hope it went a bit smoother than the first few days
Cheers Ricky, where you heading to yourself? You've usually got decent plans under your sleeve. 😁
@@WalkWithWallace An Turas Mor, an off road cycle route from Glasgow to Cape Wrath. I reckon it'll take 7-8 days
@@rickyhynd7784 sounds like it's got the makings of a classic. 👌🏼
superb robin looking forward to the next part (y)
Cheers mucker. 😁 👍🏼
Cracking series. What month did you do this?
Cheers Glenn it was over late April / Early May. Best time to do it in my opinion. No midges and good chance of some settled weather.
@@WalkWithWallace thanks for the response! Great to hear. I’m heading out on March 26th, hopefully not too cold but guess we’ll see it all!
@@WalkWithWallace Am sure he Camped by the River Cona at that exact spot. Early oan aye
Excellent stuff Robin, looking forward to the series. I was thinking you were gonna do a Renegade Scot and destroy your feet completely... Hopefully this is not still to come!
I know, both of us were worried it was going to become man versus Blisters, only one winner on that one. 🙈
Great video, I want more :-)! I've done the stretch up to Glen Affric, hope to be on the trail again this September with my son.....
Cheers mate, next one up on Thursday. 😁
Are you doing the whole route again or picking up from Glen Affric?
@@WalkWithWallace Looking forward to Thursday. I'll be picking up from Glen Affric. Taking the bus to Glen Shiel, going over the pass to Alltbeithe and then on, not quite sure how far we'll get in a week (being Lowlanders :-). But it will be great anyhow. Thinking about the TGO Challenge for 2022.... Be safe out there guys!
@@Kievit22 I know where you are, just having a look at the map. 😁
@@WalkWithWallace Interesting, how come you know :-) ?
@@Kievit22 just looking at the map, I can see the route to Alltbeithe the east side of Ciste Dhubh starting at the Cluanie.
Great to watch you doing that Robin. Excellent stuff, glad it’s not me 😀
Cheers mucker. 😁 👍🏼
Great filming guys! Awesome effort.
Cheers Adam. 😁 👍🏼
Cheers mate. The walk to Sourlies and towards Barrisdale is tough, you don't make up quick time either.
I ll stick the CWT on my bucket list 😇😇😇
Worth it mate. If you can get yourself a spare 15-18 days. 👍🏼
What's the tent you're using here mate ? .
I was using the Tarptent Notch and Iain is rocking the Hilleberg Akto. 🏕
Good stuff so far Robin.
Shame about the blisters and the dinosaur* so early in the trip, hope both ease as you go.
Off next week myself, so planning a couple of shorter nights camping locations tbc maybe assynt or some of the lochness 360, need to recondition the dog back into it.
*megasauras... Say it. I write this stuff for free you know.
Haha, cheers Andy. 🦕
Hope you enjoy your trip too, I think Assynt would be my choice. 👌🏼
Very enjoyable stunning scenery 🌌
Cheers Robert. There is some cracking scenery to be had. 🗻
Such a great video !
Greetings from England
Thanks Saz. 😁 How's tricks in England? 🏴
Hello Robin. Looks a great walk. Shame about the blisters and well well what about the bottom 🤣🤫. They say problems come in there's. Well done. I'm enjoying watching this walk. Atb Steve 👍. Ps did you use the Sony ZV-1.
Cheers Stevie. 👍🏼 😁
Yes I used the Sony ZV-1 for the bulk of the filming. The hyperlapses I done with the DJI Osmo Action.
bottoms up. 🤫🤣👍

Great vid. What are the fingerless gloves you’re wearing?
Cheers Chris, they're sun gloves that I purchased from here:

@@WalkWithWallace cheers!
Socks play the biggest part in blisters imo. I've never had a blister since I moved to merino wool blend trail socks.
I use merino blend socks too in my boots, more recently Alpaca wool. On this occasion it was user error, I didn't tighten the laces enough through all the eyelets.
What on earth are those stockings made of? I hope you'll be able to sit down comfortably after a good night's sleep. Cheers.
😂 I reckon the shorts were maybe a bit too warm, should have went with sport shorts instead.
Fantastic! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Jonny. 😁 👍🏼
Ambitious trip.
One of the best though. 👣
Super.. Bum Balm... Braw!! :-) Looking forward to the next days.. 😀
I should patent the bum balm. 🍑 😂
Everytime you said bothy the subtitles picked it up as buffet I had visions of lots of hot scran at the days end
Haha, if only. Could have done with a lot of hot scran. Those freeze dried meals are okay, but don't quite cut it.
Talking of food, a good Embra lad always has broon sauce on his chips. 😁
Excellent- got me hooked for the rest of the CWT 👍 Think I’ll give the shorts leggings combo a miss 😉
Ha yes, I reckon the shorts were maybe a bit too warm. I'll pair them with lighter sport shorts next time. 😁
Solid effort how many days you doing the whole trip
Cheers mate. 15 days plus a rest day.

They're just cheap Gerry shorts out of Costco. 👍🏻
