Some of the best walks are one’s with a pub halfway. Great video, 👍
Cheers Vic. A pub at the end is welcome too. 😁 🍻
Lol, definitely. For a big plate of steak & chips washed down with some pale ale
@@victormonster4658 now you're talking 😋
The Pentlands are very impressive Robin so many different routes to attack them from including the full Pentland Way which I have never done looks good buddy 👍
Cheers David, yes so many approaches and your day can be as short as long as you like.
Superb Robin. I can smell the phone box from here.
Haha, cheers Stewart. 😁
I got a wildcamp in on Scald Law on Friday night. You're correct about no water at all on that ridge line. I did drink plenty from the rain streaming off my peaked hood right enough 👍😂
Aw naw, bit of a wet one then. 💦😆
got a beer in one hand and the vaso in the other!! lets get this trail erotica started!!!
🤣 🤣 🤣
@@WalkWithWallace Your adverts at the start are for Durex ??
@@BorderRambler no idea mate, we don't have control of what ads pop up? 🤔
Great video, as always. I’m just back home after doing this walk in one go.
You had the right idea by having a partner with you. Trying to get a bus back to Dunsyre to pick up my car was an absolute nightmare! 😂
Ha yes, did you have to walk from Dolphinton?
@@WalkWithWallace Yes I did. Another three miles back to Dunsyre 😂
Hiking and camping amazing
👍🏻 Cheers Dadan.
A very enjoyable video, Robin. Thanks very much for capturing and sharing.
Cheers Olly. 😁
BTW, jumping to the dark side, giving the OSMO Action a go. If I like it, the GoPro will be punted.
@@WalkWithWallace Haha, you just couldn't avoid that front-facing screen, could you? ;-) I look forward to seeing and hearing how you might get on.
@@WalksWithOlly that, the easier mounting of external audio and the more natural colour. 👌🏼
Everything is so open out there really different than where I'm from. Thanks for sharing
Cheers N&R. 😁 They're nice hills to have on my doorstep anyway. 👌🏼
Definite success with pulling the birds there..
🤣 You can't bottle that success.
Looks like such a nice route to take across the Pentlands. I see you got the rain too on your camp in the night. I was surprised when I heard it coming down on Capelaw Hill. Hope the Helm Compact performed well for you. Thanks for sharing Robin👍 ATB gaz⛺️
Cheers Gaz, you fancy the route yourself? Aye it got right windy and wet, was it about 10-11pm? 🤔 The Helm bossed it no bother. Great tent. 👌🏼
Walk With Wallace 👣 Never heard of the route until you done it if I’m honest. I was planning a couple days backpacking trip around the Pentlands in October, but I’d probably make my own route probably starting at Flotterstone. Yes it was around 11pm when it got windy for me. I was beginning to regret the summit camp on Capelaw at that point but thankfully the weather calmed down. At the moment I’m thinking of doing a Munro summit camp and I’m hoping to walk Ben Lui with a mate from work this Friday (weather depending).
@@GazTheExplorer we were going to come off the route and camp high, glad we didn't. 😁
Enjoy your trip this weekend mate. 👍🏻
Brilliant matey, brilliant walk. Until the next time buddy! 👌🏻
Great company mate, even without the #wrapoclock. 😂
great video thanks for sharing, makes it less scary for me to think about
Nice one Lisa, glad you found it useful. 😁
Amazing video, bud! Thanks for sharing!
Cheers buddy, appreciate it. 😁 👌🏼
Nice one Robin and enjoyed the Premiere! Looks perfect for a wee weekend adventure! Cheers!
Aye cheers for coming onto the chat, I thought premieres were a bit knaff. 😂
Brilliant Robin! Enjoyed watching and the video and colour quality is excellent! Cheers again.
Paul.
Cheers Paul. 😁👌🏼
Good hike Robin. Looks a good one. Enjoyed watching 👍
Cheers Steve, had this one planned just before lockdown, so it was good to finally get it done. 😎
Beautiful hike
Thanks S&D. 👌🏼
Nice trip lads on ze local Pentos 👍 Got something similar planned on ma new local hood. A wee backpacking trip on the Berwickshire Coastal Path.
Cheers Kev, missed the old mackerel wraps on this one. 😁
Berwickshire coastal path is mint. 👌🏼
Loved watching you having a conversation with the burds 😂 great video enjoyed watching!❤
Hehe, I loved the geese. 😁
This is lovely my friend thanks for sharing
Thank you. 😁 👌🏼
I look at these (or at least I did) every day from my office. Done the hills but not the way. You have convinced me that this is well worthwhile..... cracking video as ever Sir👍👍👍
Ha, I used to see them from my office too, well the hill we finished on anyway.
Maybe not the Highlands, but still a worthy walk that I'd recommend. 😁
Robin. loved the colour of that water and it tasted like beer :-) A cool trip and camp. Definitely lots of variety along the way and it looked like you were both going at a fair old pace.
Ha, I was a bit surprised when I scooped that water up, full trust in the filter. 😁
Think that pint slowed us down a tad. 🍻
always a cracking video mate.those views were just stunning.
Thanks LT. Not too shabby for being our local hills. 👌🏼
A wonderful hike with some lovely scenery and views from the Pentlands. I hope you enjoyed your cat food! 🤣🤣🤣
Cheers Tony, the cat food was fine. 😁
This is going to be my first wild camp ever, getting the gear together at the moment.
Brilliant mate, when you hoping to do it?
We get water that colour along some coastal regions. It is stained by tea tree. Water tastes fine, just like having a cold cuppa.
And the watch dogs with wings...lol
Great watch as always 👍
I think that was due to a lot of heavy rainfall, it stirs up the sediment. Tasted fine through the filter. Tea tree flavoured water though? 🤔
An enjoyable watch! Its really nice up there. I was up there on Sunday and we had really nice weather. The Pentland Way looks like a nice way to join it all together and enjoy all the views :)
ATB,
Dave
Cheers Dave, it was nice to see some of the SW Pentlands where I haven't ventured before. Definitely recommend it. 👍🏻
Cracking walk that, you missed a lovely waterfall just past the run down bothy at the bottom of the hill to the left it's the Glencourse reservoir run off. Great spot for a photie! 👍
Cheers Levi, I know the waterfall you mean. I found it by accident last year. 😁
Great little hike and video, added to my list of potential future hikes 😀
Thank you and it you ever get around to it, you'll need to let me know how you got on. 😁
@@WalkWithWallace will do, although my list is ever expanding with little time to get out there, thanks again for the vid
@@lairyal8298 I know what you mean, so many things to do and work gets in the way. 😁
Lovely walk 😁💖
Nice one. Love them pentos on the doorstep. Never really thought of doing bottom to top but seems a nice route. Cheers
Cheers Leon, yeah I'm always in the top half of the Pentlands. So it was good to see some other parts of the place I haven't visited before.
Great video Robin. Will certainly put that walk on our list. No mackerel wraps though 😳 🤣
Cheers Simon, good walk if you're ever passing. Mackerel wraps are on hold until Kev's back out. 😁
Got my Popcorn 🍿 ready 🤓
No pressure. 😁
Did Turnhouse Hill from Flotterstone couple of days ago. Couple of steep bits but enjoyable walk. Enjoy your vids thanks.
Cheers David, yeah there's that boggy section then it's a steep pull up passed those trees.
West Linton...why is it 36 miles walk from East Linton?!? 🤣😂. I used to cycle down to Carlops & down towards Biggar from Edinburgh back in the early 80's 😍😊👍❗️Yay!! You cannot believe how big my grin is that you showed the rocky promontory at Carlops, that's really the all I remember about Carlops itself😊👏👏👏. Ha! ha! me and my pals got chased off that reservoir fishing without permits & we had to hot-hoof it 'Rob Roy style' back across toward Bonally reservoir, almost walked over the scree cliff at Torduff Reservoir in the mist 😯😆🤣👍. Cheers for for stirring old memories, safe travels ⛺️🤠👍.
Haha, Davie was saying witches were killed on that big rock in Carlops. 😁
Some class memories Billy, sounds like you had a hoot. 😂
It gets a bit more bizarre, apparently the rock at Carlops has some good geological stuff like agate banding in it - another bizarre side-road of information from my childhood 😯😏. The rock certainly has that 'pulpit' thing going on with it, wouldn't surprise me to hear it had been used for services during that whole reformation / John Knox stuff. Witches?! I'll need to jump on google to see what info there is online. 🤔👍
@@billyaitken1713 popular with climbers too I believe. 🧗♂️
Nice tour. Thanks my new friend. Stay connected. Full support. Greetings from Vietnam
Thank you. How are you doing in Vietnam? 🇻🇳
This looks like a nice varied walk Robin, you are lucky to have the Pentlands on your doorstep. Loved the birds they definatly had a lot to say to you ; ) The views from the hills looked great and that village at the end looked very nice . I imagine the properties there cost a fair bit ? Thanks for sharing Take care :D Teddy
The geese were fab eh. 😁I could have stayed longer. I would imagine a cottage there would be rather pricey, you're only a mile away from Edinburgh.
Nice one lads , i'll need to visit they hills sometime ..good video Robin enjoyed that mate ..cheers Stevie
Cheers Stevie. Good to hear you're back home. Need to get you out again. 😆
@@WalkWithWallace hopefully mate , that's my intension this time home , a comeback to the hills
@@ootnboots we keep saying that eh, but getting a decent weekend. 👀
Great adventure, very informative 😁
Cheers Keith, you fairly local to the Pentlands yourself?
@@WalkWithWallace Glasgow, so not far at all 😁
@@Johnson_KB I've yet to head up the Campsie Fells. You do tend to stick to the local hills if you're not heading up north.
Maan you flew over them hills Robin. It was over before I knew it. Good times. Mark
Cheers Mark, it was a bit chilly on the tops at the weekend, too cold to hang about. 😂
@@WalkWithWallace A pleasure Robin. I bet it was mate - starting to get that way down here and we're low.
@@WyeExplorer summer losing its grip and autumn is official I guess.
@@WalkWithWallace Yeah, winter will be upon us soon but first a fantastic autumn.
@@WyeExplorer aye, let's lot rush autumn. I love those golden browns. 🍂
I like your little friends 😂
I loved the geese. 😂
Bonnie country 🏕 and a pint in the Allan Ramsay 🍺🍺 Nice 👍
How was the popcorn? 🍿 😂
Nice hotel isn't it, we were tempted to pitch somewhere nearby and have a few more. 🍻
Walk With Wallace 👣 I managed to sneak in a hot dog 🌭 by the time you got to Scald Law 🤩
@@steveflett8379 😂 making me hungry and it's almost bed time.
Good work Wallace, watched a few of your vids. Keep it up, I think there is market for route finding vids in Scotland. I am always looking for info on munros and walks and there is little info about. I am all over the pentlands every night with my wee dug. He's too young for the munros but he's in training!
Cheers Davie, yeah I try to include route info and give viewers a better idea of the terrain etc.
Pentlands are great to have on your doorstep. Glad you're building up your dog slowly, see too many people rushing their dogs into big hills.
Enjoyed that hike Robin , looks like my type of country rolling hills galore... No LS on this on this trip . I did Scaw'd Law on Saturday obviously a different one . Is turnhouse not the name of the airport also ? TFS atb Dave
Yeah, that's right and Turnhouse golf course behind the airport. I believe there is some history with Turnhouse Hill and Robert the Bruce, I'd need to get my Pentlands history book out again.
I had a feeling, it was going to be windy, so opted for the Helm. 😁
Wow! I have Katady BeFree too, and when i was hiking in Pentlands, I constantly thinkin' why i did'nt fetch it, I am cuious of the taste of your waters. Is it absolutely OK to drink it with that stuff? Thanks!!
They’re handy filters, tbh I’m a little nervy drinking water near agricultural land. Given sheep graze all over the Pentlands, I would only drink it filtered and or boiled.
Grand wee day out .....
ATB
👍🏔
Lots of Daves on the comments tonight. 😁 Cheers mate. 👍🏻
Where did you camp? I firstly thought scald law but that was still ahead of you…I’d like to do a wild camp in Pentlands on some point but can’t figure out where to camp - no Bonaly or around reservoirs.
This was just after Nine Mile Burn, you can camp on just about all the summits they're all grassy enough. I've got vids on Allermuir and Scald Law.
@@WalkWithWallace 🙏 Yes that’s right they are I guess I’m worried about winds 😅
@@evachjourney just use MWIS forecast for wind speeds. 😊
Sad that the Alan Ramsay in Carlops is closed now.
Surprised nobody took it on, suppose it's a difficult climate for the hospitality industry. 😔
Lovely walk - and interesting subtitles - made by the same folk as the lift that doesn't do Scottish accents...
ELEVEN!!! 😁
Done this today it’s great
Good day for it with some snow?
@@WalkWithWallace yes had some snow ❄️
@@Aidenyoung261 👌🏼 😎
I'm late but I'm here now..
Haha, better late than never. 😁
Nice video
Just wondering what tent you used as an in the market for a two man tent that’s light weight for back packing. Cheers
Hi Mario, the tent in the video is the Wild Country Helm Compact 1. They also do a 2 man version. 👍🏼
Great looking route that - one to try. What filter bottle do you use? I'd be scared to take water that colour
Cheers Paul, it was the Katadyn BeFree filter. It's mostly peat and sediment from the rain water. Just as well I trust the filter. 😁
Great video. How long did it take to get from Dunsyre to the spot you camped?
Cheers Stuart, it took us 5 hours. I've put the detailed stats for both days in the description too. 👍🏻
Walk With Wallace 👣 Magic, thanks. I should have looked in the first place.
@@stuartharris7087 haha, no probs. I was meant to include them in the video, but forgot to add them.
Was it just clever editing or were there hardly any other people bar you two? Did the Pentos ages ago, and individually R might manage for rehab?
We hardly seen anyone until we reached the geese, seen dog walkers and golfers there, then really quiet again until day 2 when we reached the Kips.
If he bossed the 7 Marilyns, he should manage some of the Pentlands too.
