Thank you for making this video , I just got into the hobby , and I hate having to go to my hobby shop to just solder some stuff together , awesome video
Jus dope brother I’m loving rc 101 tips most people forget the basics
Thank you Mark! We did what you said and it WORKED!
Awesome. I run 5mm bullets on my 1/8 scales. You'll love it
Nicely done
I had Dean's connector melt on my Arrma Granite 3s BLX. I switched to EC5 and have had no problems after that. Good video. Thanks for the advice.
Deans are not that good ec5 or xt90 way better
Nicely done.
Thank you so much. This video helped me a lot.
Damn bro you're tips wayyy hotter than mine, I definitely I have to invest in a new one. The Amazon special ain't doing the job lmaoo
Haha There are some quality rigs on Amazon.
Good Info brother
RC soldering is so much easier nowadays. Back when I started racing in the 80's, we had to struggle with crappy low wattage irons trying to solder packs of matched cells together. If you didn't have a hot enough iron, you could cause NiCad and NiMH cells to vent because of how long you had to heat it to get the solder to melt on.
Oh those were the good old days... NOT! I don't miss all that bs...
Cool video keep them coming
Just a tip, shrink tube works best to cover the alligator clips and don't take from the surface area of the clips.
Always tin your top before putting it in it’s cradle as well.
Hell yea bro i smashed that like button
Thanks. I needed that info bro.
Buy a Weller solder station clean both parts to be soldered. Use flux if needed tin surfaces been doing it that way. Since RC10T that rc been with me since i was 6 years old.
Hi Mark
Ich have learned by a soldering lesson by kurz ersa that you should have solder on your tip when it is in the station. The tip will be last longer.
When I raced back in 2000 we soldiered the esc directly to the battery so you had to do it every time just to run !
SHT ME TOO! an str8 to the brushed motor !
@@Ruthless-1699 yep if you didn't the tamiya connector would melt !
I switched to XT90 this season. Got tired of having to zip ties or tape my connectors together every race.
Great video. Would u please be able to do a how to shorten servo wires with
a crimping tool?
Use QS8 anti spark connectors on everything and be done with it and you will never want to go with any other connectors again.
Hold on , No Flux. back to square one.
separate flux is not required in RC, i've never ever used flux when making RC connections to ESC/motors, batterys etc. never ever had one issue.
I've never seen any video for rc soldering use flux including folks that build motors
Rosin core solder I believe has flux in it I’ve tried to use some solder for plumbing because my rosin core wasn’t available at the time but it did not hold well and resoldered it with the rosin core
Do they make that jig anymore ???
which hakko tip is that? thx
great vid, do you also heat up your soldering iron to 800 to solder connectors on to batteries. I wanna solder these connectors to all my batteries, but I don't know if I'll risk damaging the battery with a really hot soldering tip
Witch solderstation do you use?
i heard those aluminum jigs arent soo nice because they heatsink vs steel's slow dipensation?
What is favorite soldering iron?
Great informative video!! What degree temperature or what setting are you using to solder in this video? I have the same Hakko as you and id like to start practicing.
I know how to solider just need a Fresher learning because I'm have a choice of EC5 or EC3 or traxxas connector
But your solder joints are excellent and is this That Tekin wire?
What it do bruh!!!!! What watts is your solder iron the guys I run with have going to propane like solder iron I still have two electric one 60 watt and a hobby grade 80 watts
Well made (seriously)... but... why not show us with a battery that needs connectors replaced? That's what I need help with.
Soldering connectors to a battery with wires already connected is what I need to be a pro at. I can do one solder beautifully. My trouble is doing the second lead when the battery and the wire to the already soldered side up the difficulty level. Hardly anyone on UA-cam takes on this challenge. I'm guessing that it's because they don't want to look bad so go the safe route of using loose wires or making a loop connector.
I soldered 4 XT90 connectors yesterday. My negative leads were beautiful since I did them first. My positive leads look like I switched hands to do them. I had to redo one so often that the pin pushed out from the heat. Thankfully, I had spare connectors. Basically I suck at soldering the second wire when it's connected to a battery.
Could you give that video a go... or point me to one that is really good?
I feel you right now I'm looking for video to help me be better
ua-cam.com/video/KQYrSUVUr70/v-deo.html. Here’s one that might help.
If anyone has or knows of a good.video for soldering bullets to my pos and neg wires on my ESC would really be helping me out. I was also wondering which do I use for my esc wires a female or male bullet to plug into my lipo. And please save the ignorance I am new to the y
Maybe I missed it? But ya didnt mention at what temperature you had the soldering wand set at?
Tim i forgot to say it but i added in the captions... 800
Is that FX-888D? :)
Deals suck hard.theybare so melty on modern 1/8th or bigger electronic s
I know how their starters someone on stuff
I need practice
Mine looks like bird sh_t😎
Looks like shit but does it still work tho? If u put to much
all my Rc are Traxxas and I dont like Traxxas plugs ...will xt60 be ok to replace them with on 2s ans 3s batterys or should I just go with all xt90?
Xt60 will be fine

Great, great video but it was a ton of fluff talk that somewhat dragged out the video a bit . discussed stuff like flux but never used it nor explained what flux is used for to the newbies and a lot of your work was almost off camera then just kept downing what other folks do not due and just kept tooting your own horn. Once you get past that great job man.
Lol Alot of guys that are into DIY or any kind of
engineering, Mechanical or Electrical, always have that “Tooting of their own horn” thing .. Especially in the UA-cam community because they are pushing their “brand” of course
Huge Egos…Fear of being criticized etc
Im an American and I worked in Germany for a few years as an Engineer for Siemens(tooting my own horn i guess lol) , and in Germany they have a very different culture, where solving problems is a more of a COLLABORATIVE effort and there is no room for you and your ego….its all about testing and The most efficient way is pushed to the top and its never a personal thing involving status, personal gain or your seniority/merit…Which is possibly one of the reasons German Engineering is usually a certain level above rest (they do make alot of rubbish too lol , but they are undoubtedly Titans of Engineering and Heavy Industry )
Solder is cheap....says the guy using 30 year old RS solder lol!!
How to solder like a pro? Pay a guy to do it for you! ;)
