- My thoughts on what you need to know about your existing health history when joining the military. Talk to your recruiter about your concerns.
List of disqualifying health issues: www.military.co...
I was in a wreck a while back when I was 19. I'm 23 now. Whenever the wreck happened I was drunk & a girl had my views of life all cocked sideways. It's my life goal to enlist. However, the wreck caused me to have a criminal record. A felony nonetheless. I'm trying & doing everything I can to get it taken off of my record. It seems so far that I'm fighting a good fight. If you could reply or address this in one of your next videos, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm sure a few others would too. love your videos & Thank you for your service. Hopefully I can join the brotherhood of an Infantryman as soon as possible. Again, thank you & I hope to hear from you soon.
yeah bro, that's a tough break but, it isn't necessarily an impossible hurdle to overcome. you have been talking to a recruiter about the situation, yes?
How did you make out? I want to enlist but I have a past of drug abuse and criminal record
I have eczema. I got 31 on AFQT. Qualified for 92G. Haven't done physical. Pray for me please.
why wud that disqualify someone? i just dont get it, eczema is not a life threatening disease that could impede performance on the battelfield.
ThaGVPSon they literally want the most "perfect" soldier they can find. I got waivered for having mild acne on my face.
how did it go?
You qualified to be a cook?
David Joe im super late but I have eczema as well but it’s potentially disqualifying because if someome has it reallll bad (cracking and bleeding skin) it can be an issue because you may not be able to deploy
he looks like he chews tobacco for a living....
Vivca McCoy nailed it!
Apparently this person has never had a grunts breakfast lol 1 can of Copenhagen, 2 cans of Rip It, and 1 pack of Smokes.
+The Infantry Life hey man great video I have a heart surgery when I was a baby about 5 months old. everyone of my family and close friends are saying that because of my heart surgery that I had when I was a baby I can't join but I have no heart problems and it doesn't bother me in my everyday life. im about to tlk to a navy recruiter but great video and God bless.
Sound advice suggested here.
I'ma save you 8 and a half mins of the video "Talk to your recruiter"
Mena Nightshade seriously!? 😂😂😂 I was scratching my head after watching this.
Mena Nightshade yeah I know it's true though man watching that video makes me want to talk to a recruiter and do some chew.
I really wanted to join the military but I have bipolar and ADHD and depression... I will never be able to reach my dreams and join my favorite branch, the Marine corps D;
ZJM 897139 adhd can be waived if you’ve been without medication for over a year I think. Depression is sometimes waived as well.
Just lie dude
@@flyeaglesfly1994 they can’t check your records?
Will you get turned down for having surgery after breaking bones
AJC 413 no. my son broke his arm when he was 10 and is leaving next month for basic. I broke both my arms and went through in 2002.
could you do a video on the army's policy of criminal history?
Thank you 💖
Hey man! Thanks for the video. I'm looking for 11B or 11A (I'm in college and may go the ROTC route). I've already done some research on my medical condition and the results are...inconclusive. I'm curious what you think: I have a diagnosis for anxiety (GAD, which is *not* the type that causes panic attacks; I'm just a worry-wart). I haven't taken medication for it in years and I've never had to have school accommodations for it. Do you think they'll let me in?
same here and I'm joining the Navy I'm already in he process
have a ig?
the*
Have you gone through MEPS yet?
What's ig?

I've talked with a Marine recruiter. He is saying chances are slim Where I'm from its hit & miss to get an Army recruiter. Even though an Armed Forces Career Center is 1 of 3 stores in our abandoned mall. I really, really appreciate your reply man. I'm gonna keep plowing through & hope for the best. I'll keep you updated. Looking to start my own channel up soon. Thanks again. Keep the videos up. You help with the do's & don't's. While at the same time keeping myself & tons of other future Infantryman inspired.
+Cam Hanvy thanks bro! keep your head up, things will work out!
Not eczema but scars because of dry itchy skin will dq me?
I had a guy named Angel a dude from LA in my Basic and AIT back in 86.This guy was a sleep walker. He came into our company after he was in FTU (Fitness Training Unit) for 3 weeks before he went with our company at Reception. This guy used to get up at night and walk around the bunk and open his laundry bag and speak Spanish to his mom with either eyes closed or open and get back to sleep in his bunk.We would ask him about it but he would never remember what he did??We never said shit about it and i never saw him after AIT because i went to Jump School and he was supposed to go to the 25th Infantry Division in Hawaii.
I thought they were pretty big on the no sleep walking policy in the Army?
The Infantry Life I thought the same too.Anyway Angel was in FTU and the Drill Sergeants there did not say shit about it.We even brought it up to our Drill Sergeants and they said they would look into it.Well Angel only did this about 4 times in the barracks not in the field.Like i said he graduated Basic and AIT in our company and went to the 25th Infantry.Angel was a cool kid and nobody fucked with him.We asked him about it and he says that he did not know about that he walks in his sleep. If i remember right is you never wake a sleep walker unless he does anything harmful to anybody or himself. He could get off the top bunk and walk, talk, and even get back up in his rack.Very strange but our Drill Sergeants never bothered about him because he was a good soldier....
+reddevilparatrooper guess that's the most important part.
The Infantry Life Yep this guys was a good soldier.I'm still trying to track him down to see what came of it after these many decades...
+reddevilparatrooper that's the hard part. haha.
if i had a 3 day stay at mental facility 1 year ago for depression can you enlist ones your fine
I told my recruiter about past diagnosed depression/suicide attempt at 14 and he says that since it doesn't affect me anymore to just lie about it.
Downpouor I'm in a similar situation what ever happened?
Downpouor im in a similar situation as well
Downpouor NO DONT DO THAT! BIGGEST MISTAKE! They can find things, closed things and if they do, they can jail and fine you. Lying to the military is a crime
m yeager great comment and very sad that they do not give people with. Mental disorders a chance if they seem fit enough.
m yeagerWHAT ?
I noticed on the army website there are weight requirements. I'm 6'2 and weigh 134. According to the site I'm underweight for my height. Will that stop me from enlisting?
Not necessarily. If you are healthy and physically fit, that shouldn't stop you. I knew candidates who were underweight who were able to enlist. Just like Infantry Life says, go speak with a Recruiter so get a more accurate answer ;)
JayTClark
Holy fuck, you're skinny af.
David Joe I know it's a curse, and can you imagine, I wanna be a cop. I really got to put on the lbs.
Donuts eat lots of donuts
JayTClark Do you work out if I might ask? If so, try bulking up some weight in muscle. When I first tried to join, I was overweight. So I started hitting the gym daily, busted my ass, and got down to my weight requirement. Maybe try that?
Could you join if you have depression and anxiety?
I tell the recruter of the army I got tourrette sindrome and obvious anxiety. He tried to enlist me but his boss said no. But next tine I'll not going to tell them about my condition in the marines corps, go to meps so obvious not to say anything or about my stupid condition and not to do anything stupid. Then I go to the basic training in 200% control.
Because those peoples are so stupid and annoying, example If you have a mucus inside of you're nose, a broken nail, 2% of alchohol or other things isn't you're fault. The doctor is gonna to discualified you.
I talked to my recruiter and he said I'm not a doctor, its what you write down and they will ask about.
Yeah, they like to keep their hands clean of all that.
lol I notice thanks for vid man
had renal cell carcinoma(kidney cancer) had surgery to get left kidney removed am I disqualified from joining?
I respectfully disagree, I’ve heard of people having adhd , the most over prescribed diagnoses that they would get disqualified, if you’ve had a concussion in the past that will disqualify you . If you have a shellfish allergy don’t tell them .
I was diagnosed with a minor case of depression and social anxiety back in 2012. I was prescribed medicine only once 4 years ago but never took any of it. Is that disqualifying ? If I decide to join should I mention it ?
Noz I would say don’t, only if you really think you didn’t need the meds. A minor cases of depression are really dumb little phases some go thru. And being diagnosed for social anxiety is BS, some just aren’t social ppl.
Jackie anxiety is not just " being shy " or " not being social " a lot of the times it affect people's lives so much they dont want to get out of the house. It can be triggered or just the chemicals in your brain.
I would bring it up...they will look up all that
got small white scars on my thighs, do you think I can pass meps?
Karen Vargas probably
Karen Vargas Karen I saw you posted this on multiple videos, if you're worried get tattoos.
I went into the military with scars, I don't see how they could be an issue, unless it was like they were brought on from self harm. If that's the case, I would talk to them about that
I have bi polar disorder but im going to therapy so if it doesn't affect me when im ready to join the marine's can i still be able to ?
You can't join if you have bi. Polar disorder in most cases but I would still talk to someone
Dude I have a broken middle finger it wasn’t even my fault though I want to do armored (M1A2 abrams) division
Do what you want bro!
Scoliosis and acid reflux problems? I can out PT some of buddies currently in the service and just gotta watch what I eat so I don't get too much acid buildup in my throat. Ever met anyone that got waivers for that type of medical issues ? Should I continue to weld ?
For say what if someone has a history of depression or bipolar disorder can they still join? Thanks
As of right now it's a PDQ. I took anxiety meds for a couple weeks when I was 14 and I'm just not going to say anything to them because I know it will not affect me anymore. If it still affects you I wouldn't lie to them but if it doesn't affect you anymore and you really want to join, I just wouldn't mention it.
@@jimmyfontana5229 similar boat but no medicine just anxiety during a year when I was 9 because of my parents divorce (seen some crazy fits which probably caused it) but anyways did it work out? Going to meps on Monday
I had a bought of depression when I was 14. Took meds for it until I was 15. I'm healthy, functional, and have been off meds for the last four years.
I want it so fucking bad. I want to be a soldier. I'm gonna try to get a waiver, but I'm screwed right?
its hard to say, have you talked to a recruiter about it yet?
The Infantry Life No, but it looks like that's the first step.
Even if they DQ me, I'm going to keep trying for a waiver. Even if it takes years, I'm not going to stop trying. They'll have to ban me from service before I give up.
Appreciate your vids man, good information.
+Navy_blu77 thanks homie, go and talk to a recruiter about it and see what they have to say.
Navy_blu77 what happened??
Navy_blu77 How did things go?
I have some wrist problems. Haven't been diagnosed with any medical conditions by a doctor. However, my wrists are in pain daily and are a big issue when trying to even do a push-up. I can only assume that if I were to see a doctor I would be diagnosed with Carpal Tunnel or Tendinitis. Is this going to be an issue with enlisting? Or should I just pick a different path in life?
doesn't hurt to try and see what they say.
Ive been processing for almost a year also because i was too nearsighted and was DQ'd. So i ended up getting PRK eye surgery and (according to my recruiter) says i can resume enlisting right where i left off once my 3 month healing period is done and i no longer have any LASIK follow up appointments left. So I will see in a month if that is true.
Oh and to add to this story i was initially only temporarily disqualified because MEPS said they would setup a vision consultation (which took 2 months to schedule) and if necessary apply me for a waiver. Well i needed the waiver and after 2 and a half months of waiting ended up getting denied. So yeah its definitely been quite an ordeal for me as im sure it has for many others. Perseverance does pay off though so only give up once you have exhausted all of your options.
yeah man, sometimes ya gotta dig deep and prepare for the long haul.
Oh i wanted to say congratulations on the speed at which your channel is growing. I think you had like around 200 subs when I subscribed so im just sitting here like damn his shit is growing *thats what she said*. Keep it up man. You help out alot of people in a fun way. And you actually take the time to respond back to people so it makes it feel like a community basically. People tend to gravitate and stick to that kind of thing.
I 've got a hernia repair surgery in the last 4 months now I m ok but should I mention it
Just ask your recruiter.
my brother wants to join but has two felonies that i and my family know he did not commit he fought for 2 years and gave up he is 25 very good guy his where for stealing 2 vehicles now that being said i hired my own investigator he told me that all it was was a rental truck that failed to tell him that the truck was not meant to travel out of state but he told him that was what he was doing this happened two times before i helped him move it was a terrible situation and we all know he did not do what he was accused of would that stop him from joining the army he is very fit solid minded guy with 2 years in college and is a very good dad
this happened back in 2015 and 2016
I have a blood disorder and it doesn't really affect me now at all but it did 22 years ago. I'm 27 now and want to get into the Guard (I have been pretty much waiting on myself to be mentally prepared to get to the point where I know I won't give up and basically mature) but I am terrified that it would DQ me. I know there are some blood disorders that will DQ you but I don't believe that mine falls under the specific ones they do not allow. I've been scared to talk to a recruiter about it because I don't want to hear the bad news and, like you said, become depressed that I cannot join (I've wanted this my whole life, just haven't been mentally ready). I had to have my spleen removed when I was 5 because of this disorder but it literally wouldn't affect my capabilities to become a soldier.
Apologies for the rambling, I guess I'm just airing concerns and hoping someone can give me some sort of hope lol
Can u join the army with not perfect teeth?
I got disqualified for 2 fucking scars . It sucks I got them from punching a window now I cant join
if i had taken ADD medication 5 years ago is that disqualifying ?
you haven't used it since then?
no I have not used them at all since
+Natalie Newberry I would think you'd be fine but your best bet is to talk to a recruiter, and ask hypothetical questions about it to em.
Don't mention it if it was 5 years ago. They can still DQ you.
Natalie I had the issue, no shit. If you are no longer diagnosed ADD, and if you are taken off the medicine then chances are you're not, then don't even mention it because it is no longer on your record. I had it in middle school and I mentioned it like a dumb ass and I wasted everyone's time by making them search for medical records that didn't exist. Don't listen to Chirstopher John, he pulled that answer out of his ass.
I got weak eye sight can I join army
sir I have a big question for you i put no if I ever have been suspened from school so at that moment I wasnt sure cause i didnt remember so I decided to go for the no But i was looking at my school calendar and i have got suspended once but its nothing bad just a stupid suspension of 2 days would that be a problem since im in dep
Sebastian Marquinha bro chill out. Being suspended from school won't stop your enlistment
thanks man and yeah i was freaking out for no reason
Hey, 'know noone will read this, but I had a pituitary imbalance years ago, nothing overly-serious, but I did treatment for a few years, but haven't since. If I go in and want to be a non-combat MOS, could I have a better chance of qualifying than a combat support MOS? I'm an average size now, just like everyone else, and no serious medical issues, could I have a chance still? Thanks.
I was diagnosed with Autism when I was 5, I dont got Autism, I havent taken medicine for 6 years. Im 20, theres no official diagnosis paper because we cant find it no one can, maybe the guy I had therapy with at 10 can, but thats it.
The sad part is every time I went to the hospital for a fever my mom sheltered and babied me and told the hospital I have autism.
Also my recruiter is fucking stupid, he doesnt know what to do, I've been to 3 army recruiters and now im on a air force recruiter, hes saying get a doctor to say i dont have autism and try or just push for it without a undiagnosis.
What do I do?
The Chugger bro my mom was the same way 🤦♂️ try to get it misdiagnosed. Earlier this year I told my mom how I felt and, me, my mom , and my dad went and talked to the doctor I had been seeing for a long time (not the same one who diagnosed me) and I told him I strongly believe it was a misdiagnosis (my dad has always believed it was bullshit too) he agreed. I played football in high school and ran track. But the only problem I have now is finding out if it’s still on any other records, cuz like I said my mom had to tell everyone for some reason 🙄
my son have adhd and take medication for it can he enter the military?
Anybody that sees this I need help, I was Diagnosed with atrial fibrillation when I was 19 and had 3 cardioversions by the time I was 21. But it’s been 2 years now I’m 23 and haven’t had problems with it anymore but I have no idea my dad who has served says I should lie and say nothing about it but my recruiter says be honest idk what to do. PLEASE HELP
They can't look at your medical records. This comes down to you homie. If you feel good, then you feel good. Nobody knows your body more than you.
The Post Infantry Life thanks brother for real I appreciate it !
I have 6 disqualifiers, surgery may help but it won’t completely eliminate the problems.
Chances are I won’t be able to enlist, which absolutely sucks.
What ways can I still be involved in the protection of the country?
Law enforcement. Corrections.
Hey man I have poor vision I want to know if I can qualify and I also want to know what the qualifications are for infantry
this video doesn't tell you what heath problems you shouldn't have. and what i mean by this is by not telling you what divisibility you shouldn't have.
ASK YOUR RECRUITER.
Just enlisted as 11x and I leave for Benning in August. Two questions....I am 24 years old and will be turning 25 during Basic. Am I super old by Infantry standards. I'm already prepared to deal with a bunch of 18 year olds, but it would be nice not to be the oldest one there. Second question....I have a wife and a child, what kind of family life can we expect? We're ready for whatever is thrown at us. The wife and I definately are aware of what we are getting into. Would be nice to get some insight though.
hey bro, you mind if I make a video for you about it and post it tomorrow? would that be cool?
+The Infantry Life that would be awesome!
I'm 22 and going in during the same time frame. Hope to see you there.
Speaking with your mouth full is rude.
Can you join the military without a degree and enlist for a 4 year bachelors degree
u need a ged or hiset diploma to enlist
I'm pretty young right now...but I already know I cant ever join it's been my dream to but things happen hey? Edit: because of serious health conditions
I have paranoid schizophrenia can I join I take a monthly shit and two meds at night
I'm a US citizen but I'm studying abroad can I still enlist?
only if you can find a recruiter... I would call your hometown recruiting center and ask them, I would think they could get the ball rolling at least.
+The Infantry Life thanks, well I'm from San Francisco CA but I'm currently studying in the Philippines in High School and I can't contact my recruiter abroad because the telecommunications hereafter shitty
+DSCIRE 128 I would try and look up the office and try and email one of the recruiters then.
+The Infantry Life thanks sir
+DSCIRE 128 glad to help.
Wassup man.i have a quick question, hope you see my comment and give me an answer if possible, before I ask the question, I would like to think you for your service, there is honor in fighting for your country and I would like to let you know that I trully respect you for being an honorable hero. Here's my question... I was watching a video on UA-cam and this guy said that if you have cavities on your teeth you might get disqualified or temporarily suspended from joining the military... is that true??? I am asking because I have two cavities in the back of my teeth and I am truly concern. Am I worrying for nothing or... lemme know
I wanna join the air Force I am a armed guard for the county of SD
But a few months back I got diagnosed with severe anxiety never took medicine for it bc in honesty It was weight related went from 252 to 210 feel great !
Should I bring it up I'm only asking bc if they check medical records wouldn't I get introuble?
Do not bring anything up unless they ask (tell the truth do not lie)
If I have attempted suicide and hostpitlization on record Is it even possible I really want to join
Freestyleliving I would say that's depending on how you were hospitalized. Was it a volunteer commitment, or did you get issued a police warrant for psych eval? Also, do you have a history of mental health issues? If so, did they prescribe you a medication? Are you still taking the medication for it?
I have the same question. Im not taking meds, and i dong consider mg myself depressed
I have this question as well. I voluntarily committed myself as minor
would having a mitochondrial disease and a lazy eye disqualify me from the military even though it doesn't effect me much?
I heard the army removed the waivers.
have you ever heard of someone getting in with a cashew nut allergy?
What do you dip lol
That is so gross.
Nathaniel Diaz May I ask what is gross?
Chris Harpster the chew obviously
Do they check your medical records
Lord Vader No
Lord Vader unless you say stuff, then they will
medical records are checked if any surgeries/hospitalizations are disclosed.
@@budgetfamilyadventures8391 I went to the metal hospital when I was way younger but hopefully they don’t find out
If I was little with asthma should I
tell the recruiter I mean I really want to serve when I turn 18 but I don't want to get me or someone in trouble by lying.
You can get a waiver for asthma under the age of 13.
Jimmy Fontana what about over the age of the age of 13
Bad looking teeth??? No pain but just not really appealing but I can eat and chew and no problems
Brandon Toler you can probably join my friend who had hideous teeth got in his front teeth looked like a arrow head pointing at the back of his throats and had tons of terrible looking teeth if he got in I bet you could
Y Yeezyy I got some missing and need to get replaced would that be a problem?
Hey, I never got a solid answer from my recruiter on this, anyways whats the deal with self harm? my cousin decided he wanted to join and he had scars from 3 to 4 years prior from self harm. he found out that he got BLACKLISTED for it. i dont understand that and i have some on my thigh so if you could explain that to me that would be wonderful.
The reason behind this is the fact that it shows potential problems where in you have a history of harming yourself and it's a precaution against you being a danger to yourself and others. Personally, I'd take his advice and tell your recruiter. There's no point lying because I'm pretty sure you go through a physical at MEPs
Monterey Devon what do you mean blacklisted? could he get a waiver from a psych?
If you are causing self harm in the states, why would our military put trust in you with potentially you watching your battle buddies get blown up, shot, or just handling the everyday grind and suck of the military..
I was 15 when I was arrested for 4 misdemeanors no drug charges all non violent just theft I was on probation until I was 18 and didn’t have one screw up or one probation violation I’m almost 19 now getting my GED soon and have had no run ins with the law I really want to join the army. I read that they are looking for a lot of new troops. Do you think I’d be able to get a wavier. If not I’m willing to get my 15 credits or even my associates degree. I’m in good health and will most likely be able to score high on a ASVAB. I really need an answer to this I didn’t want to talk to a recruiter yet because I don’t have a GED yet
waiver my friends father said. he was a recruiter for a decade.youll be gucci, according to the guy
Jeremy Rivera wordd I was so worried about that I ran into another issue I found out I had a heart murmur when I got mono when I was young but I believe I just have to go to my doctor and have him say it’s never been an issue and I’ve done sports and martial arts all my life but thanks man
i was honorably discharged in basic bc I had stress fractures in my legs and "depression" after I got out I was on anxiety meds for a bit but I'm 100% now they said I could come back but what do you think?
An honorable discharge is enough for some people, but if you're crazy enough you should go for it. I actually have some mental health issues but I want in. There's some obstacles coming from all sides and it may take some time but that's where I want to be. Of course I know nothing about stress fractures. Maybe more calcium? ;)
Did you get a waiver and were able to enlist? same happened to me
What about smoking weed ?
Sogy Gaming if you never got caught don't tell them but stop N O W
how about missing teeth?? lol
I have the same question I gotta get some replaced
As long as you have more teeth then not and have less cavities than cavitys you're good if that makes sense
