  • tinyurl.com/pft... Here I show how to make a quilted blanket, make up a square, then S.A.Y.G to close the sides, stuff with quilt batting, close up top end, you now have a quilted square (or other shape). At my site, I show the baby blanket I finished up, 3 rows of 4 squares worked up with the intarsia carriage

      Thank you. I just try to make things as easy for another the ways I found easy for me. I use to be upset when some teased me of my New England accent, but then it occurred to me that I should be proud of it. I understand my ex comes and watches my videos just to hear my voice. But he wanted to rob a cradle, cannot have both.

      +lilfawn83 If you go to my site www.hobbyknitter.com/files/patterns/quilt_blanket.html I have pictures of working one up with the intarsia carriage that sort of worked up just as fast, but think next time I will do just a solid color for each section lengthwise. Already gifted the one from my page to a dear friend that had her baby a few months ago. She loved it and sure the baby is loving the warmth. Berda

      +lilfawn83 Or just do strips or stripes but mark how many rows are needed. It was fun to use the intarsia carriage to make the one on my site compared to the small blocks done in the video. But to add that little quilt batting helps make this somewhat a puff quilt.
      As always, your welcome. Berda 8-)

    Hi Roberta - Just watched your video above (quilted baby blanket) fascinated. I am an avid knitter aged 70. For some time I have been thinking about buying a knitting machine. Would you mind recommending the best machine for me please? I live in Sydney, Australia. I loved the look of your machine, for instance, and could see that I'd be able to cotton onto that (excuse the pun), watching the intricacies of your work.
    Secondly, I have a whole collection of pure 8 ply (DK) wools with several projects in mind for friends and family. Would I be able to use those with a machine, please? They are all of reputable brands.
    Hope you can help and I look forward to watching more of your videos.
    I have knitted and tricoted several baby blankets & wraps while I was recuperating from 7 operations - by hand, sweing up my least favourite part. Interesting to see how relatively easily that could be done on your machine. Thank you, Roberta.
    Cheers for now from Sydney -
    Norma Martin.

      Sorry for delay, google is not telling me about things that happen here much. Maybe they will fix that but it worked before, so why try and fix something that isn't broken.
      So first of all, What yarn do you like to use or want to use. For me here in the US and most of us, we like the Worsted Weight yarns, I think that is the same as your 8 or 10 ply yarn. For that I would recommend a bulky or maybe a mid-gauge machine. Then next is what do you want to make with it. Some machines will do many patterns with punch cards or the electronics, they may cost more but sometimes worth it. If you are thinking of doing just plain knitting with a little patterning here and there, one of the plastic bed machines like the Studio LK150 (LK140) that the 150 is still being produced today. The other one would be the brother KX350 but some of those can be brittle and may not be that good. All depends on how it was taken care of and how it was stored. Most will need a new sponge bar or sponge strip, some may need new needles, won't know until you get to see one.
      Now the standard machines, they are good for some DK yarns but more of the little thinner ones also.
      Then the metal bed machines will have a ribber that you can get and double up your fun and also some of the work easier. I was just asked on a brother bulky ribber and noticed one on ebay that they wanted 600 for it, that is not a price I would pay but if it were the knitter and ribber, then yes I would pay that.
      Hope that helps. Berda

      Norma, if you’re on Facebook, there are lots of knitting machine groups. There’s one called Machine Knitting Network Australia & New Zealand, you’d find lots of help there. Good luck!

      +phoozchic This is a fun project, I am just finishing up using my intarsia carriage to work up 4 blocks wide by 3 blocks but one has to double up the work with no SAYG but hanging sts to form the row pockets with the quilt batting in it. No video of this one but will get up a page with pictures of what I did as I went along.

    would it work well to do this on a ribber doing circular knitting do the 40 rows stuff it then do a new zig zag row and keep going every 40 rows putting in the batting and doing a new zig zag row. Make as many strips like that as you need then sew them together?

    • @RobertaRoseMeads
      @RobertaRoseMeads  8 років тому

      +John Fowler That would be better, I only did it on the knitter only as the one that asked me only has the knitter, no ribber. But as many stitches and rows as you want, but I do like the idea of a zig zag row at the end of each section. Maybe I will work up a different one on my bulky double bed when she is out again.

      I really enjoy your videos and very much appreciate that you have several on single bed as well as with a ribber thank you for your generous work.

      +John Fowler Thank you for viewing them. When I do them up, it is more for the one person but I know it will help others also. I do like to use my double beds but sometimes I just cannot get the camera just right but most people that request to see something from me only have a knitter. So I do try to help all that I can and maybe someday I will record up using the double bed to work this up as you say as that would be so much easier then to do the SAYG or sew the 2 blocks together. And then the zig zag to close off at the end of one section. In the end what I would do is transfer the ribber stitches to the knitter and bind off there, or sometimes take it off on WY and then hand knit bind off. We all have our favorite ways to do things so even though I show one way, others will ask or let me know of how they do those things a different way. Which is good as those that read the comments will read the other ideas.

    On your quilted baby blanket, how do you start the square off. Angie

    • @RobertaRoseMeads
      @RobertaRoseMeads  7 років тому

      I think I worked up one square first, then as shown in the last one, SAYG. Then stuff it with quilt batting, get ready to bind off and then hang the previous square to the needles to bind off but this also sews the previous square to the new one.
      At first, I did measure my stitches and rows per inch, then multiplied that by I think 3 to make a 3" square. Then the math showed me how many stitches and rows to work up for each square but then we have to double that up to hold the batting.
      Hope this helps, Berda

      Hi Roberta, it's me again, thank again for your reply about the baby blanket, but on reading your reply again I realise I don't know what SAY means. could you explain please. Angie

    • @RobertaRoseMeads
      @RobertaRoseMeads  7 років тому

      Sorry about that, sometimes I can get ahead of myself Angie. Sew As You Go is what the SAYG or sometimes with the period after each letter.
      I am pretty sure I did mention that in this video but sure there are others out there, not just mine, just search for that in UA-cam and you will find them. Maybe one shows better than another. Hope that helps, Berda
