    Your vintage Bernina is so beautiful. My dad was abusive. When my mom went back to school and then to work; the FIRST thing she bought when she had her own money was a Bernina 830 (it was 1979). She ended up selling it a few years later for pennies in consequence of post-divorce poverty. She has sewn on horrible low-end plastic machines since. My siblings and I just acquired a used Bernina 830 in pristine condition to give her for her 80th birthday. I am outfitting it now with all of the vintage presser feet that will fit it that I can find. I hope it brings a sense of restoration. ☮

      So very thoughtful of you and your siblings ❤ When my Mom passed away I cleaned out her home and found all sorts of treasures that we kids had made for her, she saved drawings, silly handmade cards, tiny trinkets. Many of those little things I had forgot about, it was a revelation to me that she’d kept all those things for all those years. I was so grateful that I was able to help her in her last years in different ways, it made me feel like I was able to give back to her some of the work, money, time she spent on me throughout my life. I imagine your mother will be over the moon with such a thoughtful gift.

      I agree. It really is such a shame how so many useful life skills aren’t being taught in schools these days. We had cooking, sewing, ceramics, calligraphy, typing, stenography, Spanish, French, wood shop, metal shop, and mechanics (probably a few I’m forgetting), in my high school back in the early 80’s. My boys had mechanics, wood shop, Spanish and Home Ec at their high school in the early 2000’s. I believe that’s a big part of the issues with youth in this generation. They aren’t taught the basics of life skills. I had to teach my Grandson (13), how to thread a needle. I then taught him to sew. He loved it so much that he asked for a sewing machine for his birthday.

    • @rachelkeller6378
      @rachelkeller6378 2 місяці тому +2

      Same here. I hold the hook in my right hand and move the yarn with my left hand.
      That is a true shame that these skills aren't being taught. We should volunteer to teach them and bring them back.

    • @marionsworld24
      @marionsworld24  2 місяці тому +2

      I think in the 'olden days' you were just expected to learn with your right because no-one wanted to think how to show us lefties how.... I remember it taking me ages to get my right hand to do it. But all these years later it's just so quick, even if I seem to be holding the hook a little awkwardly. It is a shame crafts aren't taught anymore. Without being on a soapbox or anything, I do think it's part of the de-valuing of what has been traditionally been seen as 'women's work'

    Just discovered you Marion and your work is lovely. I lived in Yorkshire for nearly 20 years and it’s lovely to hear your voice, and that you say “crochering”, just like my mother-in- law did, instead of “crocheying” -we who pretend we’re French! Sometimes I say “crochetting” because I’m musical!
    I really love that duck egg, eau de nil cotton yarn, it’s my favourite go-with-anything colour. Why on earth would anyone discontinue it!
    Right, I’m off to delve into your other videos! Thank you

      You've got me thinking now 🤔 I do say cro-shay... But I put the t in when adding the ing...😂
      I love the colour too..did you notice my dress is virtually the same? 😊

    Just line (with cloth) the crochet hook case you have already. It is lovely! My daughter just had a little girl and I made the bedsheets for her crib. I have fabric left from making the bedsheets so now I know exactly what I’m going to do to make her a quilt to go with.

    I love this idea of joining quilting and crocheting together. Both of my grandmothers did quilting, and I have been crocheting for 60 years. My mother also did crocheting. Although I gave my sewing machine to my granddaughter, I have a friend who has one I'm sure I can use. I really would like to give this idea a try.

    I live in the US, am 60 yrs old and could follow you very well, thank you, you are a lovely instructor of this method. I have always thought about whether there was a way to do your quilt blocks and just use crochet to attach everything together. I have never tried looking it up and your video just popped up. I now have a desire to actually make a project using this method. I had completely forgotten about using the blanket stitch and needed a refresher anyhow. So thankful to see your video and I am a new subscriber too. Thanks a million!! ❤😊
