    Such a great explanation! I have attempted this myself in the past, and found that doing two identical passages with the carriage with each color, changing cam settings only between colors, ie right k/t then left k/t, then with other color right t/k then left t/k, created a mostly indistinguishable fabric from hand knit two color brioche. It was good enough for my purposes and so much faster on the machine when the color changes stay on the same side.

    This is exactly the information i was looking for! It is validating to see that it really is a lot of work even when using the machine. I always feel like im doing it wrong when it takes just as long on the machine as to hand knit! (Once you account for all the frogging and rehanging :)

    Loved this video so much!!! Thank you for showing us this technique. I have a white/superba 1502 that I “inherited” 2 months ago, and to tuck I just hold both the circular and the tuck buttons together. So easy and a lovely fabric.

    I have a question… some knitting machines come with a double yarn feeder attachment. Wouldn’t that solve the problem of have to switch yarn each pass?

  • @donnadehardt5728
    @donnadehardt5728 4 роки тому +3

    I kept trying to explain this to people who swore it was just as easy as any stitch. What hey were referring to was 2 color/2row rib. It looks similar to real 2 color brioche but has ripples & it is shorter, more compact, thicker. And wider than regular handknit 2 color brioche.
    I had 2 toyota 901s & ribbers & I always intended to use 2 sets of carriages with lace extensions on both ends. It would still limit the width (2 sts of carriages would be at 1 ebd EOR. But I sold the extra machine and the ribber, leaving me only the 1 bed. I only did lace on it anyway.

    • @ClaudiaArnold
      @ClaudiaArnold 8 місяців тому

      That was what I was thinking - what if one had two sets of carriages? There are extension rails for the Brother, as its lace carriage is extra. Sadly not for the Silver Reed that I have, though.

    What about tucking two rows for each color? Then you change colors more easily. And you get a more exaggerated and wider fabric with depth of two colors

    Great video and channel. What machine would you recommend for me I am trying to make little 1 inch to 4-inch size little dolls and wants very close or tighter type stitches that normally you can get with 2.5 knitting needle size but that's very hard on my hands so I thought this machine would work just don't know which machine I should get. Can you recommend some to me? Thank you

      @@theknittingschool on these two machines you mention can I get equivalent to like a size 2.5 to 3.5 knitting needle at least? Like as if I'm making fine or extra fine gauge on a sock loom I think would be close to what I'm trying to achieve cause of how small my dolls are? I rather spend the money upfront getting a versatile machine something gives me more finer closer together stitches and rows. Also, your website Id like to have a machine your using in the classes to better be easier for me on learning too. Being you have the expertise and know more about things I think maybe it best I just get something like those two or what you teach on

      @@EsteeDarla In the classes, I am mostly working with standard gg Brother and Silver Reed as mentioned in my first comment. Not familair with your knitting needle sizes but you can get about 7-8 stitches/inch with a fine yarn on a tight tension. There is a finer gauge machine but they are rare, no longer made and hard to find.

    Thank you! Good mental exercise with two colors although I'm not sure I could focus as well as you. One question, could you use the plating accessory or color changer instead of manually changing the yarn?

    • @theknittingschool
      @theknittingschool  6 років тому +1

      You could use the plating feeder but it would not give the same effect - both sides would look the same and the tuck wouldn't be a different color.

    Your machine is beautifully clean. I love that swatch book. It would be a good idea to do that for myself if I can. Also, Im thinking unfortunately it would be impossible to create the fancy patterning that you get with brioche, ie the increases and decreases?

    This is amazing! Although more complicated with two colours than I think I care to attempt. Can you please explain or show the honeycomb brioche stitch that you said can be done with a single bed machine? Does it need a punchcard? Can it be done with two colours? It looked beautiful!

  • @OzSteve9801
    @OzSteve9801 4 роки тому

    I do mine the Passap way. Knit/Tuck for 2 rows colour A, then Tuck/Knit for 2 rows colour B. Tuck/Knit means tuck on the main bed, knit on the ribber. It's still not automatic like on the Passaps as you have to change settings every 2 rows. I don't think I'd knit a scarf this way unless you have a lot of patience. If you lose concentration and forget what colour, just look to see what colour was knitted last on the needles. Another stitch I like to call double English rib (single colour) has 2 rows knit, 2 rows tuck on the ribber and knit all the time on the main bed. If you do the tucking on the main bed there's a chance some stitches will jump off the needles so you can't use a punchcard. I have knitted garments with this though the going is also a bit slow.

    • @MaraschinoPenguin31415

      How do you deal with the end stitch, which has to tuck twice in a row?

    • @OzSteve9801
      @OzSteve9801 Рік тому

      @motherofjohnsdoppelganger9654 It's like doing full fisherman's rib but you're alternating which bed tucks every two rows instead of every row. You really can't do more than 4ply but the machine handles it fine. End stitches knit for 2 tows, tuck for 2 rows unless you want to knit them every row.
