The end result was AWESOME, don't worry about it! Super helpful tutorial that I will definitely be using. I can't believe I'd never thought to just let concealer hang out for a minute before blending it.
1: hydrate + squalene oil 💧 2: then face base - blush, bronzer, contour etc. 3: tiny dot of green color corrector if blemish is red - pat with finger 3: put tiny amount of concealer on blemish with applicator brush and -wait- 4: pat/press concealer into the blemish with finger 5: use small brush to blend the edges 6: 🔁 as many times as needed 7: press setting powder over the area of breakout with powder brush 8: take small brush and press more powder directly onto blemish 🔑 : layers and blending around the edges each time writing this for myself! ❤️
I wholeheartedly appreciate this video! As someone who has severe cystic acne, I always struggle to not only spot conceal, but to also keep the product in place. This was truly helpful
If you can afford it, get the Laura Mercier secret camouflage concealer. The one that comes with two shades in a compact. Most concealers aren’t for spots. The LM one sticks and doesn’t fade like others.
I’ve been doing this loads lately and it really is a game changer! If you have fair skin, I recommend using a yellow corrector, instead of green, as sometimes putting green over red will create a darker spot on pale skin. (green+red=brown, yellow+red=pale orange, which tends to blend into fair skin tones better!) You can also use eyeshadow mixed into concealer just to tint it slightly yellow/green if you don’t have a colour corrector xx
I second this, I’ve always used yellow as im warm/neutral but very fair and green looks horrible on my skin!! yellow is light enough to not make it darker but still colour correct
I can’t imagine doing this every day, but it would be great for special occasion makeup. I used to break out whenever life was stressful and couldn’t figure out how to cover the blemishes when I needed to look my best despite what my skin was doing. Thank you!
I learned this from Lisa Eldridge too. It's been a game changer especially for my clients who have good skin but just has a random spot like yours. 😘👌🏽 You nailed this, as always. And yes, i agree with what you commented about a slightly lighter concealer on the forehead spot. But nonetheless, still 👌🏽💯💡!
My skin was getting better (been suffering from acne for the last 2 years) but a couple days ago I got another break out, so this is soooooooo good timing, thank you 💜
Only thing: maybe swab the concealer on the back of your hand first and apply with a small precise brush of your choice (I love super small eyeshadow brushes) instead of touching the wand directly onto the acne/blemish. This just unnecessarily introduces more bacteria into your concealer tube. But still love this. Reminds me a lot of Celine Bernearts' old video on concealing, and it's just the only way to get it done!
I needed this so bad!!! After almost five months of flawless skin I now have not one but three volcanoes on my chin, and I have a job interview soon...thank you!
Wow! THANK YOU! I don't get breakouts often, so I get very little practice covering them, which is then disastrous when I DO get one. This is going to help a lot, especially since you convinced me to get a set of makeup brushes.
I have really dicovered a difference after I started "over-hydrating" my skin instead of letting it dry out if I break out. Looks like my sports is screaming for hydration not dryness :)
Wow, this is super helpful! I've been struggling because of acne for about 3 years already and when I use both foundation and concealer the red spots are still visible :(((. And I don't even have hard acne that is hard to cover all over my face, just spots. And now the problem is solved, thank you sooooo much! xx
Absolutely LOVED this. I have cystic acne. I’ll get a cyst and pick at it (I know I know…) and it will protrude from my face. I always have trouble concealing them well. Now I know I was using too much product at one time. I also get acne where I contour sometimes. So now I will be using a darker concealer in those areas! Never thought of that! You’re the best 👏🏼🥰♥️
If you pick up a gel face mask (I like the Peter Thomas Roth cucumber one) and keep it in the fridge, either before bed or when you wake up put a dollop on your acne it helps bring the size and redness down a bit 🙌🏼
@@AlexandraAnele I used to love that one but I never picked it back up for some reason. I usually apply ice to the area but it just swells back up a few hours later. I’ll have to get it again and try it! Thanks girl 💗
Fabulous information!!! Spot concealing is waaaaay harder than one would think!!! Less can definitely be more!!! Alex, you're the best!! Blessings to you!! ✌️💚🙏
Great video! I think I was almost there with this technique, but using the little pencil brush to diffuse the edges and setting lightly with powder I think will really bring it all together.
i love thisss!!! as someone who got breakout a lot this is really helpful but i still have to wear my mask and everything just move around. i might try this method and go out to see if its moving around underneath mask. ❤❤❤❤
Masks and makeup are tough 😑 Honestly, if you really don't want the coverage to move under your mask, try hairspray 😂 Just don't breath when you spray it
When I absolutely have to cover a blemish-like for a job interview or something, I use Mac paint pot. It is thick but dryish, so it sticks really well and matches my skin tone perfectly. It also doesn't migrate around my face. I use a precision brush and work in small areas and thin layers.
Your face is so freaking gorgeous, I could look at it all day. Sometimes I zone out and I don’t hear what you’re saying and have to rewind 🤣 I painted quite a few portraits at college (I love faces, people are so interesting) and yours is definitely one of my favs in the world. Thanks for this video, by the way, it was exactly what I needed xx
I've been using a flat concealer brush (actually my eyeshadow brush lol) to spot conceal and it works wonders compared to using fingers when it comes to coverage! Also I ALWAYS end up moving the product when i put on blush over the concealed acne ☹️ I wish you had shown how to conceal over blush on cheeks.
If you need to layer up concealer in thin layers, a touch, a smattering of powder in between give the next layer something to grip to instead of putting cream on top of cream. It has always worked well on my clients. Also using a thicker concealer like LM secret camo and a pin point brush, using a creamy thinner concealer you've got much more chance of movement.
Omg, what perfect timing! I've got a celebration coming up and a big fat spot right in the centre of my already very prominent schnoz. What would we do without you??
i saw your face on the kosas website! and was like "that doesn't seem like the right color..." so i wanted to see what you really were as i found your channel since you were talking about olive undertones like what i am. i wish there was a way to more easily know colors online, or have a return options. i'm paralized with indecision because of this.
Super helpful. Spot concealing It's one of the things I could never get down. I usually always smear the color corrector everywhere & color correcting that entire area instead of just the spot
Dang helpful video in so many ways Alex! Like you, get just a few of those "spots" & just a smidgen of concealer on top of foundation just doesn't seem to last/work. 🙏🌺❤
Hey Alex! Have you ever considered filming your skin care/hydration routine in a kind of vlog style fashion? I feel like many of your tutorials nowadays include making sure you're hydrated and primed with a usual skin care routine, wether it is you're or ours. However, I feel like it would be really helpful to see what you do before you proceed with the makeup since it is such an essential step. Since I know there is a waiting process between alot if skin car steps, that is why I suggested the vlogging type style. So you just kind of film a clip of the process and edit ilthe clips together instead of having to sit in front of the camera and wait. Hope this helps and I'd love to hear from other commenters if they'd like to see that.
Love this video! I've never worn foundation in my life, so spot concealing is my regular go-to. I'm new to powders, though. Could you explain/show the differences in the types of powders and their various uses?
I was just trying to figure out what to do cause my skin also isn't too bad and I don't like fake, but just want to cover or improve a little bit here and there .. spot conceal wohoo 😊 Thank yooouu ♡ I too like my piercings in almost the same spots like yours.
I've been doing this exact method for years! I've been struggling with acne for about 7 years but I've always disliked the way foundation felt all over my face. So I just have some concealer, an elf color corrector pallet, and an eyeshadow that matches my skin tone perfectly. Slap that on my red spots and eye bags and done. Literally takes me like 3 minutes to do max. I agree with how you said it makes you look like you have flawless skin. To me, putting foundation over everything makes it look too artificial, but spot correcting makes it look like its your natural skin (I mean it is, just with some doctoring lol).
This is what I've learnt from Desi Perkins a few years ago for a flawless spot conceal (changed my life): Cover your spots the exact same way as shown in this video BUT instead of translucent powder use a *Powder Foundation* in your shade! If you keep building up the concealer for more coverage it can look ugly real quick. So use a *Powder Foundation* instead 1) it gives you even more coverage, which is perfect if you want to conceal a spot 2) it looks flawless/no cakeyness 3) it sets the concealer in place. :)
Do you reckon you could do a tutorial on making ice pick or box scars less visible, and potentially what products work for these issues? Your skin is near flawless, so maybe a model might help!
This is basically my process but I use a super small eyeliner brush to put the concealer on (Chloe Morello had a video on this ages ago). It gives me extra control and is a bit more hygienic than putting concealer directly on a spot. The product doesn’t go as far around the break out because you’re putting only a small amount directly on top of it. It’ll take a bit more time to build up coverage, but if you’re doing the process in this video anyways you’re likely doing it because you have the time. You can also adjust the coverage a lot easier. Sometimes I’m ok with going out with visible acne but I don’t want it to be RED red. In that case I’ll make a small X or + on my zit with the eyeliner brush and blend there. It’ll give the whole area around the zit the same level of coverage to look more seamless.
curology is my holy grail but it’s been failing me for a little while.. so i definitely needed this quick makeup question: could you make a video touching on how to blend face makeup (cream blush/bronzer/highlighting concealer) without it disappearing? it seems like i can only blend out any lines after it’s GONE 😂 thanks sis
Hi Alex! Can you make a video on powders and when you would use different ones and how you would use them? eg loose powders, setting powders, pressed powders etc. I get so confused on when to use what powders
This was a perfectly timed tutorial! Waxing gives me INSANE breakouts (and redness/texture) so I've been considering covering them with makeup and lo and behold, this tutorial drops! Hey Alex do you have any post-facial hair breakout/redness tips (makeup or skincare wise) ?
Another tip for large breakouts: if the pimple is protruding it can cast a shadow, and no matter how much of a coverage you apply you can still see it. Add a tiny tiny tiny bit of lighter concealer with a tiny tiny tiny liner brush on the bottom off the pimple (crescent shape) and try to keep it there when blending.
I sometimes use eyeshadow primer under concealer if I don't use color corrector so it stays longer. I find spots can be so greasy the concealer doesn't stay on that well always even with powder.
I have vivid, pigmented scars that I find pretty much impossible to hide no matter what. I wonder if I need to focus on colour correction rather than swamping my skin in products
Color correction can help. But often the issue is that the concealer is not full coverage enough or it doesn’t stay put. If you can afford it, get the Laura Mercier secret camouflage concealer. The one that comes with two shades in a compact. The LM one sticks and doesn’t fade like others. There is a reason why most MUAs use it for spot concealing.
If you don't have a concealer that's your exact skin tone, do you think it's better to spot conceal with a slightly darker shade or a slightly lighter shade?
Any advise for larger areas of redness? I have rosacea in the classic areas and it covers most of my face but I hate the look of a heavy foundation/concealer since I need to conceal so much skin, my current solution is just having redness but I hate how much it pulls my face down and ages me ugh
Do you use sun screen even if you don't go out in the sunlight or daylight? Just curious I don't. It's a good habit to get in, but people think they have to use it at night. Anyway thanks for the tips!👍💞
😂 definitely don’t use it when the sun goes down… but yeah, my apartment gets a lot of light so I try to put it on in the morning and reapply throughout the day
I'm not sure I would use the concealer applicator directly on a spot due to bacteria from the blemish going back into the whole tube. I would put a dot on the back of a clean hand and apply with a really small brush
"..I threw it away because it expired..." is not in my vocabulary!😂 Up until around a year ago, I had makeup that was older than the niece I gave it to!! I know: gross. They were just powder eyeshadow pallettes and pencils, though; nothing liquid. I sprayed them with alcohol, and wiped the top layer off each pan. I should have just thrown it away, I've given her tons of brand new stuff, too, but she really wanted these ones, too. Although, while I was going though and tossing old stuff out, I found some products I've had since highschool, and a cream eyeshadow palette that I bought at the beauty supply store WHILE I WAS IN HAIR SCHOOL, which was in the early-mid 2000's. !!!!!!!!! THAT was pretty disgusting, and I totally yeeted it. By "yeet" I mean "scraped out all the product into the garbage, cleaned out the components, broke them down, and recycled the separate materials. The latter was a metal compact, so I felt bad just hucking it in the trash. Now, the oldest product I have is maybe almost 2 years. That's really good, for me.
I just discovered your channel/subscribed, I love your tutorials! You give so much helpful information every time. Do you have any tips for doing makeup/concealing for dry skin?
When texture shows up I feel like adding another thick layer to my face with some foundation-goo is the absolute last thing I need. I just wanna spot conceal and I try not to fret about the imperfections peeking through here and there. It somehow appears, cleaner? Idk
You know if you wrap an ice cube in a cloth and set it on the breakout it will shrink it for the day Before you spot conceal. Also at night before bed, put a washcloth soaked in hot water and let it set on the breakout, and that will also help to get it to heal faster. lol
Ok in retrospect I do wish I used a slightly lighter concealer on my forehead....but like....you get the idea 🥲
Do you have to use a powder with color or can you use a translucent powder?
Also, can you do a video about how you choose foundations and concealer shades?
The end result was AWESOME, don't worry about it! Super helpful tutorial that I will definitely be using. I can't believe I'd never thought to just let concealer hang out for a minute before blending it.
We do lol
1: hydrate + squalene oil 💧
2: then face base - blush, bronzer, contour etc.

3: put tiny amount of concealer on blemish with applicator brush and -wait-
4: pat/press concealer into the blemish with finger
5: use small brush to blend the edges

7: press setting powder over the area of breakout with powder brush
8: take small brush and press more powder directly onto blemish
🔑 : layers and blending around the edges each time

Do you use sun screen even if you don't go out in the sunlight or daylight? Just curious I don't. It's a good habit to get in, but people think they have to use it at night. Anyway thanks for the tips!👍💞
😂 definitely don’t use it when the sun goes down… but yeah, my apartment gets a lot of light so I try to put it on in the morning and reapply throughout the day
@@AlexandraAnele Oh ok that makes sense! Yeah I noticed you have great natural sunlight 👍🌞love your videos!💞
“Look how cute they are, in a line” lol SAMEE 😭
Saving for future me who will FOREVER be getting spots just before date night or "I want to look nice" days 🤦♀️
I'm not sure I would use the concealer applicator directly on a spot due to bacteria from the blemish going back into the whole tube. I would put a dot on the back of a clean hand and apply with a really small brush
1. You're beautiful. 2. I need to know where to get those hoop earrings
"..I threw it away because it expired..."
is not in my vocabulary!😂
Up until around a year ago, I had makeup that was older than the niece I gave it to!!
Yes!
Can you tell us how long does that last? I do the same method but I find it melts off súper quick 😂
You put green coverage what color should put people who has olive skin tone?
I just discovered your channel/subscribed, I love your tutorials! You give so much helpful information every time. Do you have any tips for doing makeup/concealing for dry skin?
When texture shows up I feel like adding another thick layer to my face with some foundation-goo is the absolute last thing I need. I just wanna spot conceal and I try not to fret about the imperfections peeking through here and there. It somehow appears, cleaner? Idk
Perfecto!
Thx alx 💖
You know if you wrap an ice cube in a cloth and set it on the breakout it will shrink it for the day Before you spot conceal. Also at night before bed, put a washcloth soaked in hot water and let it set on the breakout, and that will also help to get it to heal faster. lol
Hey 👋🏼 .. you’re awesome !! Squallllie oil 😂
