How to get a flawless base without foundation

  • Soooo basically since I've reached a really good place with my skin AND sunscreen has been my priority day to day, I literally stopped wearing foundation.. SO I wanted to show you how I do this. It's essentially a really clean, no makeup makeup look that you can glam up or down depending on what you're going for. Anyway, hope it helps! It's been my favorite base for a while now 🙌🏼❤️

I think that blush gives you a slight sun burned look, but in the fresh "I've been outside all day on a sunny day" way. I like it and it's really fitting for this base. 🙂

Yeah that’s usually the point. Wayne goss talks about this on his channel a lot too. It’s for the fresh out in the sun/garden look and on pale skin it gives it a cosy winter vibe if you change the placement 😊
Wayne uses blush on his nose and forehead to look sunburned

Love that you mentioned those 15 min rules between moisturizer-sunscreen and sunscreen-make-up! Very helpful for those who rush and find their base is breaking apart/there’s pilling etc.
I always felt like commenting this when watching your videos, if you’re leaving enough time for your products to sink into your skin, since most of the times it looks so wet and… just prepped! But I guess it depends on the individual. Didn’t want to sound like a know-it-all so I refrained from asking, but again, glad to see you preaching it!

YES! And not just waiting but washing your hands completely before sunscreen and then again before makeup. It's not just what's on your face, which is usually smoothed out and absorbed but what's left on your fingers which can be dried on without full absorption.

Please do more of these no foundation looks! I cannot be bothered with foundation anymore and I keep seeing other people feeling the same way! Plus I love how you use powders that look natural. So many people think they have to be all creams to be natural looking. We all went too hard with the creams lol 😂 powders are most of what I want now because they are lower maintenance generally.

I recently switched to a BB cream and it is a total game changer. Seeing your channel where you embrace having a simple base that still shows some imperfections feels really refreshing as someone who started watching beauty gurus in the mid 2010 where everyone had a full face of make up that would NAWT look that good irl without a filter or a ring light. You genuinely look stunning with this type of base.

I have been watching your videos daily since I discovered you. I am 71, and can't apply everything you do but I still learn from you! From watching your videos I realize that we have so, so much in common and that is exciting! I am of Lithuanian and German heritage, I am an artist for all my life, working in pastel and graphite, you are an artist also! You have done paintings, now makeup. I was a Nurse and now concentrate on landscapes and portraits in my retirement. I was always a loner, walked to my own drum and so do you! You remind me so, so much of my younger self and therefore, bring me happiness! God bless your journey in this life! Love your videos so much, even if they do not apply to me. I still learn from you and I thank you!

I’ve had a good skincare routine for a while now and I finally feel like I actually look worse with a full face of makeup, foundation, tinted moisturizer or powder foundation. Everything just eventually separates or settles into my lines and I’ve found that just using a primer, a lil color corrector under eyes, maybe a lil concealer if needed, some lil highlight and blush or something to add some life/color and translucent loose setting/finishing powder looks much better without the full base first. My skin is clear enough and looks like skin, doesn’t look cakey and fine lines aren’t shown off. It’s like a revelation because I’ve always felt I NEEDED the base if I’m gonna do my makeup and I feel so much better like this.

Coal miners from northern England in the 1930s truly had it rough, but one could recognize them among society by the striking blue scars on their faces. This was the result of an open wound below in the shafts, then letting in mineral and dust from the Earth that would react with your blood and create a blueish hue, the cut then healing over and leaving this color permanently in place. Of course these men and women were not primordial beings, but rather lower class workers usually forced into a life of severe labor and poor wages.

So most of my face stays bare. Anyway, it’s so nice to be able to do this. I live in TX so I can’t wait for this summer!!! Work on your skin! Take the time to figure out what it needs and what your concerns are. 95% of My skincare comes from target. Plus a prescription tretinoin. You don’t have to break the bank to get results. Just get a routine and stick with it. Wash your face AM & PM. Don’t get lazy. Invest 10 min twice a day to your face. You won’t regret it. Love this!

Yes, to you doing a future video on pin-point concealing tips. I enjoyed this video, and your not simply applying layer after layer. Everything that you demonstrated, had a purpose and a confidence to it: your skin wasn't lost nor camoflaged. Yup, if there is one bit of skincare advice that I could have relentlessly trolled my younger, New Zealander self with 35 years ago, it would have been: layer and reapply the sunscreen, and def skip on the baby oil 'glow'. I found myself being awarded the melanoma 'badge' far too young - and that one is a really unforgiving punch in the face. Thank you for keeping the wearing and application of makeup, real.

I cocktail a drop of foundation, moisturizer w sunscreen and squalene oil (to get a more cohesive color btwn my face and body). Then I do the rest of my base similarly to how you did yours here. Brows, tightline, (lip liner and blush if I’m feeling fancy) after = my polished day to day face if I wear makeup

hey alex. i’ve been following you for years and i really LOVE your videos, you’re the makeup artist that taught me the most about makeup, so thank you for you amazing content! also wanted to say, i dont remember in which video you asked about that recently, but ive seen that suva beauty has made a black primer called « prime + paint », for smokey eyes for example. if you could try this product to let us know how it works, it’d be awesome! have a great day

As a person who does not wear foundation almost at all (for special occasions only. Like fancy dinner or something), my tip would be: opt for cream products. I find them more fluttering on foundation-less base, because they kind of melt into your skincare (which is vital), instead of sitting on top. If you are on the oily end of a spectrum, just apply powder product on top.

Do you set your face with a spray or anything or do you just go out like this? How long does it last? Imho this is the ideal amount of makeup. Very classy and effective. Thanks for sharing!

I hit the like button before even watching the video cause I knew it would be bomb!! 💅🏻💯 I love that this is becoming a trend slowly, having never really worn foundation or being able to make it work!
Ps. Isn't it funny that I have a ski jump nose, and have always wanted a straight nose and you have it yet want to make it look like it's has a ski jump 😂

Hi Alex, could you do a catwoman/Zoe kravitz inspired make up? She looks gorgeous in the one still where she’s wearing a white tank top and I think the makeup style she’s wearing would suit your taste!
