i saw them 1985 in a cinema in Bremen live. There were three other people and me and they played if there are were 50000. I will never forget them...🙂🤩
ABOUT a yr before this performance my younger brother Chris and I were ringside at Maxwell's Club Nov 1984 on a bitterly cold night. The LR's were headlining. Griffin (and me BTW) drunk out of his mind came down into the first few row of SRO there. Put his National electric around my neck and asked me if I could play along with Steve. I did rather sloopy but the guys were great and played thru. Insanely good time. Forty yrs ago this year. Ciao baby
Hadn't ever heard it until a couple of weeks ago. It was played on NPR's World Cafe. Been listening to it on YT since then. Commercial radio is an intolerable wasteland of repetition. College and high school stations are the places to hear (literally) anything on. Used to be CBC Radio was pretty broad in what they played, still a better choice. Real people playing what they like. Programs, no programming.
I saw them in Liverpool on the tour that Andy Kershaw was talking about and they changed the lyrics from 'Harlem after dark' to 'Toxteth after dark'. They also put references to other Liverpool areas in their live act. I expect they did this in the other cities they played in but it was impressive that they bothered to go out and find some local background.
I wouldn't say they fell out so much as lost hope in a music industry which by any measure did them raw. One can only batter one's head against a brick wall so many times before moving on.
Absolute amazing to see them live tonight in Manchester, Band on the Wall.Great music lives on.
Brilliant. After all these years, one of the best songs ever.

Sweet Jesus, that was absolutely amazing.
One of the very first things we recorded on our video player, so of course we watched it over and over again...what a great performance!
Ferocious
Amazing... these guys had lyrics like Dylan, they looked kinda Country - but the played with Punk rock energy!
Love this - energy and attitude, with some damp fine harmonica
Syd and the boys rocking it
doesn't get any better than this.
love this song love this band.. too good for the eighties...

I saw them in London that year , they were absolutely incredible.
Could it have been The Town & Country Club, Kentish Town? They did play there one year and it was one of the greatest gigs I have seen.

still thinkin about the late tim hardin...
Ten years later and at half speed, they would become Oasis...
.....without the great lyrics, though. I mean, would Noel G. even know who "the late Tim Harding" was, let alone namecheck him?
Do YOU know who Tim HARDIN was....?
Fuckin brilliant!
