The Long Ryders - Looking for Lewis and Clark

- Опубліковано 23 гру 2024
- Filmed in the Summer of 1985 to accompany The Long Ryders' first UK hit single. Filmed in London, see The Long Ryders play before an assembled crowd at the Mean Fiddler, get the law called on them in Harlesden (not shown), and have tons o' fun in the process. Stiff's Dave "Robbo" Robinson intersperses all of this with archival footage of uniquely American historical imagery, including the kind your grandparents knew well and self-styled moralists still clamor to disown. Fun for the whole family!
16 years to late but I found it Thank you Tom
They don't have tunes like this comin' out these days. A true classic!
KROQ Hit, Rock of the 80's Pasadena
Loved these guys and Rank and File, and Del Fuegos, and Beat Farmers, etc
RIP Tom Stevens
Sid Griffin went on to form one of L.A.'s great psychedelic bands...the Unclaimed.
I just found a CD of Native Sons at my local Salvation Army today. For a Dollar! A good day indeed.
Still one of my favorite songs of the 80's
Those sideburners!!!! WONDERFUL!!! I loved this song, and still do!!!!!
Great Great song. I saw the band Slobberbone cover this song one night while opening up for Cheap Trick in 2002 or 2003 in Laredo Texas. It was an awesome surprise!
Heard this tune on a college radio station about twenty-five years ago and thought it was fantastic. It's amazing to see this now!
Still rocking my socks off in 2020... done good boys! Thank you!
Have just come across this little gem whilst indulging in one of my online trips back to the 80s. I remember hearing this song for the first time and rushing out to buy it the next day. Can't believe it's 30 years old now. I'd forgotten just how good it was.
Saw them in a basement off Wardour Sreet London in the mid 1980's, fantastic sweaty, electric gig, unforgettable................
I can't believe this is the first time I've seen this and I was actually there. I heard on the radio that they were filming the video at the Mean Fiddler that afternoon so I went down there. Fun afternoon and I met the guys after the shoot.
Always thought they'd be bigger.
This was during my "cow punk" phase when I was into these guys and bands like Green On Red, who I would later meet in San Francisco when their side project, Tequila Mocking Birds were playing at the bar I was working at.
Good times, good times.
Great story about Green on Red. What bar? Lived in SF for many years
Always been a great band with excellent songwriting and, explosive live shows...from the early 80s though the 2020's
CALIENTE 🔥
Its brilliant
The best of The Paisley Underground scene that included Green On Red. Lone Justice and some might say REM.
Absolutely bloody great band, saw them many times.
met him and the boys in Atlanta reunion show in 2010. Yep.....really cool bunch of guys.
I love these guys have all their albums, seeing them live is still on my bucket list.
Great band! Top 5 in my all time Favs!
The Long Ryders were a great band and one which deserved better.
bought this as a gatefold 7" single on release...played it to death..thanx for posting
I never knew there was a clip for this song. I wore out side one of this cassette. Yes, I said "cassette"
Been a fan of The Long Ryders since the 80's, saw them in Madrid in 2004. Absolutely amazing night!! Tremendous band, with a superb collection of really good songs. Excellent blend of country-rock-folk-psyquedelia with taste, personality and attitude...very hard to find new bands of this quality today...LONG LIVE THE LONG RYDERS
This song and video kicks a**!!!!! Ive loved this tune since it came out. thanks for posting it.
Great lads, cool band. The crowd was really into the music.
They don't make bands like this anymore. Opened for them in Chicago at Metro during the 80's. Gonna look for some video of the show......
I was there too at this gig and loved the band. Fortunately they are appearing at Patterns in Brighton England on the 25th. May 2023 and that's now my home town. Guess where I'll be on the 25th.
Great band one of my favorites
Great song - and a BRILLIANT show in Nottingham tonight Tom! Hope to see you guys again soon.
Bottle the spirit/energy of this song/vide0, send it around the world...don't know what would happen but they'd say this is Rock....
Stunner!Brought here tonight by Mark Riley - Parallel Universe, 6music.
GREAT, Great video!
Now I'm looking for more Long Ryders videos! ;-)
Saw them live in Neville's Cross just outside Durham, UK, in the 1980s. What on earth were they doing playing there? Talk about an obscure venue!
I saw the band in 84 at the gallery in manchester and the following year at manchester international, they reformed for a farewell show about 3 years ago and i saw the gig at The Fleece in Bristol,They were as good as they were back in the day.
Always loved the Mabuhay Gardens reference. Saw many punk shows there
Used to love dancing to this at the Barrel Organ and also Burberries in Birmingham when I was a teen living there!!
OMG i saw this guys live in a 1985 night @ the Slego club Italy! unbelievable...its like 40 years ago. and yeah am this old.

Long Ryders, Minutemen...long live the originals of the 1980's!
Seen in Belfast in eighties as recommended by my mate who compared to REM, no contest the Riders were brilliant.
Ryders.
Lurve these guys , awesome mispronouciation of Mabuhay . They never played there though maybe upstairs at the Off broadway
Great song, thanks for posting this.
brilliant
Great footage of a fantastic band at the very top of its game. Combine the urgency and aggression of good punk with the melodicism of good country, throw in a heaping helping of distrust of authority from the 60's, and you've got a real taste of what the Long Ryders are all about.
REM good but the Long Ryders always my best.
You know what. I was thinking the same thing and then I scrolled down and read your post.
Great song with maybe some Gene Clark influence.
I'd have said a mixture between Gene and Guy (Clark, that is) and did you know that after Gene's abortive get together with Hillman and McGuinn he got in contact with Guy and offered up a duo recording? Just imagine that! (Guy turned it down because he thought he wasn't good enough!).
this used to be a real favourite at the Fishes in Kingston. obscenely loud , of course !
thanks for postin this
The Incredible Sideburns of Sid Griffin, as immortalised in music by Granddads Don't Indicate. And this song's a proper anthem too :-)

Nice chapter in John Doe's new book about the band. "More Fun In The New World"

I laughed outloud when I read your this, Classic!!
I totally agree, was lucky enough to see The Long Ryders in Bristol just after Looking for Lewis and Clarke came out. They were superb and had high fives with all the band as they left the stage.
I ain't a Kaiser Chiefs fan either!!
@ArranRodgers that is a Shure 520DX "Green Bullet" harmonica microphone.
@ArranRodgers It is a harmonica. It just has a mike taped to it.
If you like these try the Faith Brothers another underrated 80s band
Be sure and check out their.new 2019 record”Psychedelic Country Soul” - really good!

Thank fuck ive been looking for this for years

madnessssssssssssssssssssssssssssss...
I never realised the lead singer of The Long Ryders was none other than a young John Cleese.
Was this filmed (The Clarendon?) Hammersmith Broadway?
Saw them, there.
The dogs bollocks!
Not too long after the Brixton (UK) riots... Cos they used to sing "Looking for Lewis and Clarke IN BRIXTON..!"
Good drinking song.
lou-a, lou-a, lou-a, lou-a, lou!
Hey maybe we should tell Anton Newcombe about these guys !
Can't get this on i-tunes..... :(
They're touring in 2012 (allegedly).
fuckin brilliant
Not Variety. At The Earl. HOLY SHIT!!!!!
Very Byrds-Buffalo Springfield Influenced
rip
If you like this check out the band The Barracudas
this has a different ending than I'm used to
that fade out at the end is bad
Should have read..if anyone gives a care...Someone called me a snob in Reno...I was brought up in damned Yankee country in Eastern Connecticut...I think the culture is not unlike the Southwest except nobody talks. Anyway this song has a religious significance.
Great video great song...phrophetic...hacker trash still messing with volume...did someone change any of the video content??? This great age of photo shop and hackers just great.
2 people don't want to look for Lewis and Clark. (sigh)
Love this song but I can't play this one as loud as I could ...not my equipment since other youtubes blast loud. Disappointed. I was recently in Reno due to a series of misadventures...from the NE can't you tell??? Someone called my a snob. Really.
This should have been a hit, song went on about
30 seconds to long, and they should have taken
out the corny "louie louie lou". Sid has another band and I cant recall it's name. He's done some writing
too.
genuinely great band live - given how crap music was in the late 80s they should have been big
A bit Dusty.
