Jeff Healey - 'See The Light' - Night Music 1988

- One of our all-time favourite clips of the early days, Jeff Healey in 1988 on the Jools Holland/David Sanborn hosted, 'Night Music'. Dr. John on piano, Marcus Miller on bass, Omar Hakim on drums... quite possibly one of the hottest bands ever assembled! This clip screams pure joy. It's a blast watching Marcus lose it as Jeff takes it to another level. Dig! ~Rog

2024 and that still is one of the most incredible live performances I've ever seen. What an amazing talent.
😂😂😂😅😮😮
No doubt.. Healy is by far one of the most underrated musicians of our time. Rip legend
Estoy totalmente de acuerdo contigo,es increíble este vídeo! Algo único !
Comme je suis d'accord!
In 2124 they'll be saying the same thing.
One of the most devastating performances on the electric guitar ever given by mankind!
Absolutely Insane.!!! Made me want to throw my Strat into the damn fireplace
Marcus Miller & Omar THROWING IT FUCKIN’ DOWN!....
Absolutely agree! and with Marcus and Omar it could not be any better!
@UCDB_EqVAwpw4EhNk77OEpuw
Astounding performance. Threw my Strat in the fireplace . Useless piece of shit wouldn't even burn.
😅
Yes, yes, Jeff, but don't ever ignore Dr. John piano, Marcus Miller bass, Omar Hakim drums. What a power group.
Nothin' but the very best there without a doubt! 🙂 ~Rog
Kick ass backup band. No questions
Did someone ignore them? 🙄
The rhythm section is wildly overplaying in my ears.
They are the best!!!
Learning guitar can be hard, but being blind and becoming a legend as Jeff was is mind blowing , died before his time .
It bums me out when we lose such legends so early. What would THEY have done?
saw him live on acid
@@curtiseverett1671I screwed your mom on acid. See what I did there? Ya, no one cares except you.
No one's guaranteed tomorrow, but I appreciate that he didn't let his " disability " keep him from being purposeful.
It's hard to fathom how Blessed I was to see Jeff live, twice. ❤🙏🏻
This still feels so amazing.
The ever famous saying "Nobody can play like him" is most applicable in Jeff's case. What a fantastic unique player. RIP
because nobody learned like him...he plays the chords like a piano
He was amazing totally a confidence man
look up thumbs carlileua-cam.com/video/7ecl93TsmaE/v-deo.html
He plays it on his lap because at age three that's the only way he could hold it. He has said that he doesn't understand why others don't play that way because your fingers can do so much more
@@mateo98100At age 3it was the only way he could hold it but you're right about playing like a piano
Jeff Healey was one of the greatest guitarist bar none. R.I.P. Jeff
Playing in such an intense way is the proof that nobody needs drugs to feel things... Yeah Jeff I can see the light: Thank you!
This guy has more talent in one finger than in most peoples whole body.
I have come back and watched this countless times, and I still feel like I cannot quite believe what I am seeing and hearing. Jeff Healey needs to be in the GOAT discussion for guitar - PERIOD!
Bravissimo bello ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️😊🎸😊
This is probably the most unbelievable thing I've ever seen and heard, in my pretty long life. The late great Jeff Healey, deserves to be mentioned among the all time great guitarists. He played in his own unique way, and I think a talent like this only occur once or twice in a century.
Fully agree!
@Bob Whiting RnB no pal the blues.
@@garethbrearley6484 I mean R&B is usually more funky and this ain’t no shuffle lol. Rhythm AND Blues 😆

Holy Fuckkkkkkkkkk!!!! Oh my God, this is just absolutely badass!!! I came out of my chair cheering for him near the end.
Yep... Balls to the wall. When he stands up, why doesn't he drop the guitar?
I've been a sound guy for 24 years. That is a show when you get to say" II witnessed HISTORY "
35 years ago today this album came out. The shoe told me to go and catch this Cat. he plays it on his lap. Saw him 7times. miss you Big man you are still the Best
Omar Hakim on the drums, that's the ultimate groove armada. Dr John, Marcus Miller, the hell of a band
I know not a weak link absolute power!!!
Tellin the TRUTH!
And Jeff made them work hard this night
Man - they wuz fuckin’ THROWIN’ THAT SHIT - DOWN!!! Good LAWD...
Yeah I saw that, he was gettin Marcus hyped up!!
Jeff Healey is an absolute inspiration. I'll never forget the day he came to visit our classroom in Toronto, Canada when I was in grade 7. To take time out of his busy schedule to visit some kids in public school was so nice of him, it will stay with me forever. Thanks Jeff. You gave me a happy memory of a lifetime. Forever grateful!
Really he came to see you at school I'm 7th grade ? Wow you are one lucky kid lol adult now but you know what I mean I love Jeff he is awesome what is your favorite song bye him mine is angel eyes I love that song it means so much to me
@@joycemitchell6954 Yeah, he really did come to see our class in school in Toronto. It was around 1992 or so. Was super awesome of him. Angel Eyes is a great song. I loved his music from Roadhouse (I was also was a Patrick Swayze fan).
Yes I got to say angel eyes is my favorite song bye Jeff and loved loved Patrick as much as Jeff may they always be remembered in our hearts and souls and minds rip you guys much love bros

Un canadiense dando las gracias? Eso es muy raro.
When this guy came to England I went to see him in Portsmouth. The venue was full of biker guys and long haired rockers. This is about 1990. I was 24 , stapress Levis' , Ben Sherman, loafers and a sport's jacket. They all snarled at me 'till I lit my fat joint, then we became friends. What a guitar player this guy is. He brought the fucking house down when he did 'see the light'.
Jeff Healey had a gift he could play that guitar that's for sure
Holy Mother of God, what a beautiful moment. Thank you for sharing- the music lives on.
Man.. 3:03 was just nasty. I’ve never heard anything even close to that level. He’s got soul and speed. That’s the rarest of all the gifts.
Blistering speed.
Yeah, that's what happens when you are blind and determined to get good. Damn, but what a big sacrificial exchange tho.
when I saw him live, he reminded me of Hendrix......I'm an old guitar player, and grew up on Hendrix, and I would never even say that, but.....his spirit soared like an eagle......man it was something to see and hear
It’s just nuckin fits how fast those runs are using his thumb. He was just an amazing player, I think his unusual style was partially because of the way he played… on his lap. Awesome.
I will never tire of seeing this. Astounding!
I actually saw this when it was first broadcast on tv. Night Music was a great show with fabulous guests and a fabulous band.
If it wasn't for Stevie Ray Vaughan for finding Jeff Healey we might have never seen the light of Jeff Healey Great singer and guitar player !!! Fire ✌️🔥🎸💯...
This must have been his night off at the Double Deuce.
"...and I thought you'd be bigger." (lol...great line!)
.".the name .. is Dalton"..
Hahahaha, classic man!
Nice one ! Dont need chicken wire here though!!
I think you mean the Double Douche.
I went to see Jeff play before he was famous there was only about 10 people at the gig at lunch time. After he played I told him your going make it big soon. He said thank-you! A year later he was playing sold out shows. It was in Vancouver we had to pay see him about $3 dollars the cashier said some blind fellow that plays blues. When we came out of the pub we were speechless!
you're*
You are lucky,man....
I saw him at the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto one summer. I don't think there were 20 people in the audience, but he played as if he was in a stadium. Incredible!
Was that show at The Lamplighter? I think I saw him there once about 81’, or 82
Yeah, I guess there's no guarantee of any artist making it big, but Jeff created that 'buzz' wherever he went.
He seems like such a pure guy, like he could play on any stage with any band and land on his feet so well. That's who he was. The popular songs and albums were great too but he was a devoted musician principally. He's so Old School that way, like he's a jazz player. I believe he owned an insane amount of old records.
Oh wow, I did not know Jeff knew David Sanborn! May they both rest in peace. We just lost David Sanborn on May 12, 2024, and Jeff Healy didn't get to live long enough.
blimey, i never appreciated this fella when i was a kid. Revisiting it now in my 40's and i am blown away
as a former guitar slinging singer who fronted a club band with a continuous and tight road schedule for a large portion of my life,I feel compelled to speak about a few other accomplishments by this young fella just in this one single performance..first off- Marcus and omar are grinning right out of the box..thats something to be proud of on its own..secondly, wow, what a vocal Jeff is laying down...amazing VOCAL...two verses in Jeff says " come on Doc, I got the blues..." wow..what an honor...This had to be a highlight in Jeffs career, one of many...then,able to keep marcus and omar smiling during a pretty wild solo, another amazing accomplishment..Listen to marcus and omar here- laying it DOWN,and having a ball....shows how much respect these dudes had for what Jeff was laying down..then....wait for it....The very young Jeff gets to tell marcus and omar- "way down...." what??? the balls on this guy...lmao....
last but not least- the killer lick and performance on the guitar at the end absolutely made marcus break down in smiles, from ear to ear....what an amazing performance...I mean, truly amazing. So glad this is out there for people to remember what a talent Jeff really was... and my goodness what a band behind him this night....my goodness...
and i have been priveleged to have some of the very best behind me...Johnny Gayden,Micheal Doster...I know what it means to have this kind of talent behind you...such a blessing..these cats do not grow on trees..
Yeah alright, calm down mate.
@@paulgordon6949 lol.. i know., Listen Mate, I have been blessed to play with some of the best, the absolute cream of the crop at times when I was working enough to attract the cats.
I am telling you straight up for a cat as young as Jeff to get that kind of performance and respect from those veterans speaks very loudly to me. These cats absolutely laid that shit bra.. love this cut. And the coolest part of it all, is Jeff deserved the respect they gave him. performances like this are so rare my friend. I bet that room still smells like mojo
Jeff HEaley is in a league of its own...Marcus and Omar are barely keeping up - blessed to be there - they are great , I am a fan of both, but this is supernatural power on display - leagues above...you can't learn that.... Even SRV, the absolute brute force in blues, had to take a step back and admire....jaw open...
@@levondarratt787 ya man, any player would be standing back and jaw hanging watching this performance
@@tedarndt6254 If course he knows they can keep up, but Jeff is sure on a par with these legendary musicians, he is just making that point,
He is the definition of "nothing is impossible". The precision is impeccable.
Marcus Miller can’t believe what he’s seeing.
Jeff was such an incredible player. This performance blows my mind every time I watch it.

Simply one of the sickest live guitar performances of all-time.

Jeff was so talented. That rhythm section was smoking too!
Miller and Hakim look like they absolutely loved that. How could you not??? Talk about a great day at the office!
Damned good band
This should have 50 million views!!! One of the Greatest Blues/Rock performances of our times and all the Greats would agree, especially Jimi. Thanks Jeff for your life expression, twas a Real Treat.
Ain't much music greater than this
RIP Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jeff Healy
He turned a so called disability into an amazing ABILITY!
Jeff had them all jacked up,you are witnessing something spiritual and supernatural
The way Marcus Miller was looking at him with Incredible admiration and satisfaction
Wow, thanks! If you ever come Seattle I would sure love to play bass with you.
I'm not saying I can play like Marcus Miller anything but I would sure try my best to be a good Rhythm Section player
That says it all dude
Yup. If only Jeff could have played regularly with Marcus and Omar. What an ensemble.
Most of these Simps wouldn't even know who he is
Man his reaction when the crowd cheers warms my heart. Guy's a legend.
R.I.P. Jeff !
Lets all just be thankful ....
Just incredible, never mentioned enough when discussing the great electric guitarist. Frank Marino another Canadian guitarist that was light years ahead of his generation.
Frank is my favourite guitarist ever.
Definitely one of the legends on guitar out there! Truth Jeff Healey should have gotten more recognition for his playing and singing. I was first introduced to Jeff Healey in Patrick Swayze’s ‘Roadhouse’
Just looked up this track so I could comment (and link this) on a review of Roadhouse that failed to mention him. :)
He's on the Canadian Hall of Fame!
Just discovered him. Guitar playing is up there w any of the greats. But his singing absolutely sucks. Guess I need to explore more.
@@aloeup2121 how could you say his singing sucks? It's maybe not the best ever but it's perfect for his style. I think he has a pretty top-tier voice
Yes! My man you realy need to!@@aloeup2121
Some people clearly need more Jeff Healey in their lives...
Man.... These guys were cookin with gas!!!!
gas? these guys were cookin with plutonium!!
Kookin' with NITRO, baby!!!!!
I've watched this performance several times, but it gives me goosebumps every time! Not only is Jeff tearing it up, the whole band is phenomenal. I think Jeff was one of the greatest blues guitarists ever because of his technical skill and his incredible phrasing and feel.
The combo, the song, the performance.. Simply magnificent!!
What a performance by all involved. Even better considering they undoubtedly had minimal rehearsal time together. The mark of true professionals. They were all feeding off of Jeff's energy, very cool to see. The look on Marcus Miller's face was hilarious. I had a very similar reaction the first time I saw Jeff Healey play.
44 thumbs down?? Seeing a musician being moved like that, whether blind or not, is a thing of rarity and beauty.
44 lost souls.
I'd say!!!!! Amazing.
if you gave a thumbs down, your probably leagally deaf!, I have hearing aids and this has been one of the purest performances ive enjoyed since i first seen this, on vhs, back in the late 80"s...."cause I didnt have cable at home and a buddy recorded it"...!!!...oh yeah, if thumbs down, your an ass!!!
Great Band
Yes! Miller is grooving so hard here. 🙌❤️
Such ass kicking musicianship all around. Devastating rhythm section with Miller and Hakim. Beautiful rollicking piano solo by the legendary Dr. John, and then of course the young phenom tearing it up with his unique approach to the fretboard. I sure wish they would would have late night TV like this again.
i wish
jack white was pretty great on snl last weekend
Someone once said of Franz Liszt, "It was as if nature herself had created a pianist," and that's what I think about Jeff Healey as a blues guitarist and singer. The man was incredible. Love this performance.
Wow! What else to say? One of these cats you can't copy man! Unbeatable : he's got FIVE fingers ON the fret board... we humans only have four of them. And that band really stands out. And Jeff, that blind blond genius he stands up and plays like Hendrix with his teeth, but with that hand sitting from top up on the neck... WOW WOW WOW!!! Unbelievable and unforgetable... How come he isn't among the most revered players? He is the stuff legends are made of.
Jeff had a couple of things that kept him from stardom. There simply weren't many blues players in the late 80's or 90's to carry the torch. Stevie's untimely death martyred him and Grunge's arrival (1991) did the rest. Blues was old and stale for radio play by the time Roadhouse introduced Jeff to the mainstream world.
It's an absolute shame, because Jeff was an unbelievable talent who should have been a household name.
Totally UNDERRATED,,,should be top ten guitar player..??
There's just so many awesome guitar players. But after seeing this again I'm almost inclined to agree with you. Jeff's was able to allow pure creative intelligence to flow through him.
WrOiWp.......✌
Maybe not in the Top 10, because his style is not that so original (musically speaking), but his technique, crazy! Top 100, for sure.
Four people were blinded by the awesome and accidentally clicked thumbs down.
Now 12 who need to make an organ donation
Maybe their thumbs down is for that useless fucking drummer. He is missing more beats than a rented mule. Jeff and the others save the song from his damage.
hahahahahahhahahahahahah nice comment
tyme4mike No, you just can't count. That's Omar Hakim. He didn't miss a thing. You did. Womp womp.
tyme4mike Do you know who Omar Hakim is? FAR from "useless".
I think that if Jeff Healey were to appear on a talent show today, the judges would pass out before he finished the song.
Jeff is my number 1 blues player.ilove to play the blues but I cannot duplicate jeff.he is and always be in the the top 5 of blues greats
When you have Marcus Miller, one of the THE session bassists in NYC walk over to you while you are playing out the end solo to see WTF this guy is doing on the fret board....when you have Omar Hakim, one of the baddest drummers on this planet with an ear to ear grin shaking his head in disbelief....you know you just made an impact. Jeff Healy, gone far, far FAR too soon.
Thevdr. Was born again on that one

Saw him live at a Belgian festival late 80s. When he got up to solo the crowd went crazy. It was fantastic. RIP Mr. Jeff Healey, you are missed :'(
And THAT,
ladies and gentlemen...
is Jeff Healey !
This is hands down one of the most impressive and inspirational musicianship performances you will see. If you happen to be unfamiliar with this band without Jeff Healey sitting in, like I was, they are absolutely world class tight and talented. And at this point in their careers they were at their height. They are they are the cake. Then Healey absolutely crushes it. He is 2 inches of icing on the cake. Easy to say, but forget for a moment the inspirational element of Healey's life story and just listen. They simply just ROCK! Absolutely slay. And Jeff is 20 or 21 at this point??? This video clip is the absolute pinnacle of funk from a makeshift group of 4 guys without a minute's thought of their age, race or physical hurdles.
March 2, 2019 will be the 11th anniversary of Jeff's death. How I miss this extraordinarily talented man. I know he, Jimi and Stevie Ray are having a great time together. Rest in eternal peace, Norman Jeffrey Healey.

I used to work for a medical company as a delivery driver in the early 90’s and I used to see Jeff on a regular basis. I always said hello to him and he in return. I didn’t want to overwhelm him with what a fan I was off his music. So a casual hello Jeff was good enough. 🎸
