If you do the hot glue in a bucket of water instead of on a flat surface you'll get the 3D rounded look immediately which will make it a lot quicker and easier for you
I've been searching high and low at tackle shops trying to find non-glittery, black leeches for months. And you guys come up with the idea of making them with hot glue!? BRILLIANT!
An easy way to 'age' paper and string, make a bowl of very strong black tea (no milk) a small piece of sponge, with your sheets of paper, lay them flat separately and gently sponge the cold tea to give aging effect. Leave to dry thoroughly before stacking and printing on. Unravel the string and immerse into the tea, leave for a few minutes utes depending on desired colour, then gradually take the end and put onto a wire rack to dry. Roll back up for future use. It's messy but good to keep in a craft box. If you want a ripped effect paper, rip and dab extra tea over the ripped area. Hope that's useful
this is awesome... Leeches is one of the first potion bottles I did I actually used black plastic warms from the dollar store one halloween but I really love this LOL although it reminds me of the little micro worms in the aliens prequel
Thank you so much for giving mm measures it means the world as I am based In the UK inches confuse me so thank you makes these so much easier to recreate xx
I’m a nurse on a plastic surgery unit and we keep a big jar of these little guys! We change their water and keep them alive in case we need them. I’ve used them a few times.
Love all of these jars! QUESTION: I want to make these to be a recurring Halloween prop. How do you store jars with liquid or a substance like this? Have you had any problems with leakage? I’m wondering if I should seal my jars shut with glue and if anything changes about the look over time. Not that looking more aged is a problem 😉
@@CookingandCraftChick So good to hear! I do tubs in the garage for storage, so I guess I should just peak in on them during the summer months. Thanks so much!
Cooking and Craft Chick I was just hoping yesterday that you’d start your Hween props for the year. I really want to just go full-on Fall in August. I don’t think that’s too soon, and my mental health needs Fall right about now. 😉 🎃 🍁
I was watching another video of yours from a long time ago and was wondering if you could make a vid where you show and briefly explain your potions, you could even do them in parts (if you want... just a suggestion) love ur vids ❤🔮
I see that this was made a year ago, but I am just now stumbling upon it. My son and I are going to make this with a long twine "rope" so it can hang like a cross body bag for his plague doctor costume this year. Any suggestions I should have?
Thank you for actually showing how to do that string and knot at the neck of the jar. I watched another youtuber say that there are instructions to do it on page 3 of her book and then proceeded to move the jar out of camera view until she finished the knotting portion. Not cool, not going to buy the book either. I was going to google it but here you are and you're showing how to do it and how to make leeches. I never thought I'd see them again....interned as a pharmacy tech and thought they were messing with me, telling me to fill an order for some leeches. The way you placed them against the sides of the jar was perfect, they seemed to like to be around the sides of the jar. Nasty little creatures....lol
The book your talking about is actually my book, and I do show you how to wrap it in my book on page 3, but I’ve also shown how to wrap the top in like 100 or more of videos too. 😉 I’m glad my leeches are close to real ones, and ewwww I still can’t believe their still using them. But I guess if it works it works. Lol.
@@CookingandCraftChick I just found your channel today, so I haven't had a chance to watch many other videos of yours purposely (glad to know there are a lot to watch) - I just was preparing to set up a witches apothecary and needed to make some potions and stuff. I put about 40 or so videos in my queue to watch. I probably skipped out of 10 of them because the creator was speeding through stuff he or she probably knew how to do in their sleep but was new to me, if I don't get to learn it, why watch? Maybe that's just me, but that's why I watch videos to learn to make cool stuff. So potion making and potion bottle prep are the videos I've been bingeing -- many different creators. I have to add your jellyfish stinger video to my queue because that sounds perfect - I live in a beach city and that's going to fit right in. My apothecary is going to be 'sea' themed. Think Mermaid scales, Anglerfish lures, Nessie's whiskers, Kraken teeth and other mythical and real sea creatures. Dang, now I may have to buy your book - what's it called and is it on Amazon? Regarding pulling the leeches to fill an order, at my hospital, we used long handled hemostats. The leeches were in a gallon sized jar - like those Costco pickle jars, with holes in the lid and covered by a brown bag.
Love your videos and this is another great potion! I am making a tiny jar of faerie tea and wondering how I could attach a spoon so this gives me ideas. Many thanks!
do you know any technique to get rid of most of the air bubbles in the gel? i'm new to potion crafting and wanna try this out :) mica powder and other stuff is ordered. just haven't had the chance to pick up some cheap gel yet and would be bothered by too many bubbles in the gel
You could use actual fishing lure leeches, sometimes halloween stores have bags of leeches, or you could try coloring regular hot glue with a permanent marker.
Hi, so I made hot glue in water leeches and they look great. But, they keep gradually rising to the surface and don't stay down! Anybody got any suggestions...
Rosie Wilkin I’m not sure why they would be rising, unless maybe your gel is not thick enough to keep them in place. 🤷♀️ the only thing I can suggest is that you try thicker gel, or suspend them in resin. 😕 You could also try clear elmers glue but I think they’d either all float or sink. Sorry I can’t be of more help 😞

One video at a time you're helping me make my gameroom the wizard's lab of my dreams! Thank you!

Yay!!! You used my idea!! Im Robin 😁ur leeches came out cuter though! I didnt 3D mine!! Im so happy you did it!!!
Tracy Skywalker thank you for the idea!! 😘
Fantastic video. The best Potion channel on UA-cam. 👍👍
This is an awesome idea! I never thought to use tweezers as part of the display. Definitely going to try this one out!
Fishing tackle actually have really cool little worms, salamanders, frogs, and fish that would look cool in a jar like this I think :)
Can't wait to make. As a plastic surgery nurse, we used them on traumatic wounds
I seriously had no idea they were still being used in medicine today! That's fascinating to me.
Jackie Remis when I was researching to make this I couldn’t believe they’re still used today! It’s fascinating!
I've been watching Botched, and they use them to reduce swelling after a nose job. Creepy, but cool.
This is a really cool idea, but I think I would make the "water" a little murky looking.

This would be perfect for my plague doctor costume this year
slightly_murderous_sorcerer Awesome! 🖤
This is creepy cool!! Leeches freak me out. When I was little I remember coming out of a lake and my mom freaking out cause I had a leech on me lol.
Purpleshoes Purp they freak me out too. Yuck. I’m ok with fake ones though. 😂
Wow, this one is astonishing and awsome!
I just wanted to tell you thank you for all your great videos about Harry potter potions. They all are so amazing. I have done a few already.
😊 I’m so glad I could help 💜

They store really well, but try to keep them in a space that is not too hot, it will increase evaporation.

I love the ending result, very cool!!!!

I know the video is "old" but I hope you can answer. I have a pressure pot, do you think it would help clear up the bubbles so its more clear?
Probably. Some of this gel has less bubbles than others too. I liked the bubbles so I chose an extra bubbly one.
@@CookingandCraftChick thank you for the reply. I'll see about trying it out... I can always add the bubbles back if it doesn't look good 😊

Some gel has less bubbles than others, even in the brand I use. I like the bubbles in some potions but not all of them.
I'm thinking you could use Hot Crayon wax As well I Don't Have Black hot Glue
That might work too. 😉
They're still used in wound care now. They restore blood flow in toes and distal feet, helping diabetic ulcer patients keep their feet.
Might to a version were the twine makes a handle, so I can carry it around in my plague doctor costume OWO
Is there something i could use instead of hot glue? Or can the glue be painted?
You could use actual fishing lure leeches, sometimes halloween stores have bags of leeches, or you could try coloring regular hot glue with a permanent marker.
Ok, this is suitably creepy and gross. Definitely gonna add it to my potion collection! You should do a jar of toadstools next.
The bubbles look like mini leeches
Honestly, I'm like 16 so for the age bit I might dry paint on brown paint

@@rosiewilkin9117 I used shower gel, and had the same result. Came her hoping for a solution.

Where can you get black hot glue?
Amazon. Sometimes hobby lobby will carry it too.
Thank you!
So I made this a couple weeks ago and just showed my daughter last night, she actually thought I had a jar of real leeches 🤣
That’s awesome
