One of the best issues. A complete brutality! Surge getting stronger, the poor Kit being even more unstable mentally and poor Whisper losing almost all of her wisps. This one was certainly wild!

This is such a dangerous situation brewing.....
Surge is descending into madness with a Wisp-Hungry weapon and a hallucination-based Starline.
Kit is a broken mess.
Belle's Zeti Zapper was probably destroyed in her efforts to keep Kit from escaping.
I mean, the situation is rapidly becoming a disaster and it isn't even over yet!
Side note: I will give props to the writers for giving the Wisps some semblance of a personality with their translated words (Pink sounding cocky and rash while Orange sounds like a sophisticated genius (Kinda like Transformers' Blast Off or Perceptor)
If I had to wager a guess , surge may start seeing a ghost of her former self as the Dynomo cage dose increasing damage to her psyche
The writing can be intense and beyond dark, the writers do not pull any punches, big wow!
Poor Whisper she lost her Wisp Allie to the crazy Surge and also poor Kit because he believes his purpose is to be used as a tool.
At least we got a moment of Kit being cute around Sonic and Tails.
Both Tails and Sonic can easily see another Tails in Kit, thus they have been able to handle him, at least without Surge's presence. Starline may have brainwashed Kit that way, but that's how he is now. Tails knows what it's like to have confidence issues; and Sonic, having helped Tails, has experience helping people with confidence issues. Honestly, this is one of Sonic's better character moments in this comic.
I'm glad they found a way to keep Starline around (especially in this way since I love the "Imaginary Enemy" trope).
I still think it was a waste to kill off a character with such potential so soon (and without Surge and Kit being the ones to off him) but oh well. It is what it is.
I was kinda hoping starline would come back. But honestly it’s much cooler to have him just be a ghost haunting surge.
This issue of sonic was epic. I appreciate that it acknowledge the tangle and whisper mini series and it feels like the issue has it's fancy of saying that history repeat itself in a sense and with that said, If the cyan wisp survives in the next issue, then it's possible that whisper will use blasters similarly to her fellow teammate slinger as way to honor her group since slinger was the last of her group she has seen though it was mimic in disguise but still. The way whisper used a piece of her broken wispon was cool and it shows that she really lives up to her group's name both figuratively and literally. I feel sorry both surge and kit as they're victims of starline and even if he's gone, his influence lives on which goes to show how starline's powers have effected surge and kit. I like that belle takes care of kit for a short while and It shows how far she has come as a character. In conclusion, this is a great issue and I can't wait for what comes next.
Surge having hallucinations of Starline is similar to how Cloud had hallucinations of Sephiroth in Final Fantasy 7 remake.
If I had Mr. One-Winged Cringel invade my head space, I'd be as crazy as Surge too!

This was an incredible issue. Surge's new gadget makes her an almost unstoppable force of nature, that I wonder if Shadow was in the area, would she be able to absorb his Chaos Spears?
That panel where we see her assaulting Whisper is, no doubt, one of the most brutal things we ever saw on the IDW era - her thrill of destruction, her desire for more power and her quick thinking make her a real danger to anyone. I really wish her presence in a future Sonic game.
Sonic is still too weak to fight at full strength, and Kit is coming. This might sound strange, but I want Kit and Surge be reunited and fight the heroes...

Though if Shadow were here and used, say, a Chaos Spear on her, given how the Power of Chaos turns positive or negative due to positive and negative emotions respectively, I imagine the energy she gets would turn negative almost immediately. And since positive Chaos Energy acted as an end-all vaccine against the Metal Virus, I imagine negative Chaos Energy would make the modified strain Surge has worse.
as you said weak I can sense that one Sonic fan can't accept the reality that even Sonic can get weaken , because they are so use to seeing Sonic being a god while myself don't mind this because it show's that Sonic is not always invincible all the time ,

Huh…surge and kit already had a backstory similar to androids #17 and #18 but now surge can absorb energy like #19 and Dr. Gero (#20) makes me wonder if getting stronger via absorption was the original idea Akira Toriyama had whwn writing what would eventually become the cell arc
I hope the Sonic universe has professional therapists because Kit's gonna need one.

Man, I am NOT used to seeing Whisper with her teeth on display like this. Most characters can show grief, but since Whisper is a wolf, her sharp teeth really tell you how much pain she’s in. I was almost worried she was about to lose her cool and do something insane.
Poor wolf has suffered enough Zombots, leaving the restoration, and now this. So upsetting to see her cry. And I was scared half to death that the wisps were gone, until I remembered they’re energy.
What a great story.
Cept remember what happens when wisps get drained? Nega-wisps may be on the way.
You forgot Mimic helping Eggman kill the Diamond Cutters; that's like the foundation of all of her stress!
True. I know that incident left the biggest scar on her, and this fight probably reopened that wound.
The wisps are like her family (so I hope we get to hear their dialogue more soon)
@@nemohegdehog8944 All three; Zombot Tangle, Mimic free, and this; were linked to that original incident in some way. Honestly, all three, among other things, wouldn't have happened if Sonic never let Metal Sonic get away in Issue 12. Because of that, Mr. Tinker became Eggman again after laying a hand on Metal Sonic. This allowed Eggman to create and distribute the Metal Virus, which turned Tangle and most of the population of the world (or the continent; it's not very clear) into techno-organic zombies. It also gave Starline the opportunity to work with his evil hero and find out he's not quite all he thought him to be. This lead to him freeing Mimic from prison and capturing, weaponizing, and brainwashing Kit and Surge; leaving Whisper on the run again and Surge on her rampage. Of course, Eggman's return also meant and Mr. Tinker's "death". Starline was also responsible for bring the Deadly Six to the planet, as well as having Surge start that Forest Fire and the initial confusion in Central City. The Metal Virus also is what made the forest vulnerable to fire to begin with. In short, nearly every bad thing that has happened starting in Issue 12 happened because Sonic let Metal Sonic go. Meaning it's just as much HIS fault as it is the villains involved. Honestly, it's kinda sad.
@@videogollumer That's one reason I'm really scared of an arc where Whisper resents Sonic for this. We know they can't go around just axing main villains in the franchise and the story needs conflict, but in universe things wouldn't have the same excuse. Yipe.
Surge Using The Dynamo Cage On The Wisps Kinda Reminds Me Of Mega Man' Copy Ability
You know, I’m really curious to see a fight between Silver and Blaze vs Surge and Kit.

I know Surge is a victim, and I hope she gets help, but I also hope she gets her a$$ handed to her for daring told hurt Whisper's whisps
Eggman wasn't WARNING Surge about anything; he was just insulted that Surge was using the Dynamo Cage in a way that HE didn't intend for it to be used! He could care less if Surge killed herself with it; he just had his ballooned ego hurt again! It's like in new DuckTales, when Gyro's hyper-pedantic nature made him angered at Fenton for using the Gizmoduck suit in a way that he didn't design it for, except the new DuckTales Gyro's not evil; he's just egotistical.
Just to let y'all know this dude is a total Troublemaker he start fights for no reason and likes to support people who do bad stuff like lewe_ed art on underage characters and when somebody confronts him about it he likes to make dumb reasons that he's good and everybody else is bad don't even talk to this toxic person
This is the first time in a while I've been truly interested in the Sonic IDW comics. Also I bet that if (in the next issue) Kit was to appear to help Sonic and then find out Surge is alive she won't take him back for trying to help Sonic (or at least not destroying him). I really hope something like that happens because if Kit teams back up with Surge it will be wasted potential (again).
When Surge slams Whisper onto the ground, does anyone else does notice she looks like Aggressive Retsuko?
Also, maybe Tails can upgrade Whisper's Wispon to fit more Wisps.
She still needs to have a Jade Wisp. I hope someday the writers will think of it and give her a chance to have one.

Looks like ringing bell is the new villain hallmark. The whisp capture is setting up for a bad time. In a trauma vs trauma match everyone loses.
Does the Dynamo Cage look similar to the device from Imposter Syndrome Issue 3?

(At 10:30) I sure HOPE not. Let's be honest, Kit may be better off without Surge. If Sonic, Tails and others from the respiration can help him learn common sense. Because this boy is still acting like a slave.
Surge with the power of the wisps is almost a scary though, can you imagine surge becoming a void?

This could be an awesome action tv series.
Kit will definitely not be a happy Fennec when he sees that Sonic had lied to him about Surge’s death which will only in turn side more with Surge than Sonic because nobody likes a liar. Though Sonic will probably say to him that how was he supposed to know that Surge survived the fall in Eggperial City while not knowing of the repurposed Metal Virus by Starline to ensure his creations don’t meet any sort of death. Kit hopefully will tell Sonic about that exact enhancement that allows them to survive such things that would end in a death to explain how Surge survived, though Hallucination Starline will not be a very happy platypus when Kit tells them about it while he’s of course continuing to taunt Surge during her 2nd bout against Sonic. Kits decision as to who he sides with will be the defining factor of where his loyalty’s lie in and in the fight between the two speedsters. He can’t choose both that’s for certain, only one of them as much as he does not like having to support one over the other. He just wants to support both gosh darn it Ian and Even.
Eh, he told him something that wasn't true, but Sonic didn't know she survived either. Then again, Sonic's sense of judgement in this comic has been quite abysmal. Regardless, there is a good chance that Kit will conclude that Sonic DID lie to him, possibly even thinking Sonic was deliberately trying take Surge's place as his Supportee.
Sega: "You can't make the game characters suffer! Do what you want with your own, but leave ours- What's that twinkle in your eye?"
Starline out here living in Surge's head, rent free
8:15 - He's not wrong; continual electrical shocks to the brain WILL cause serious damage to someone's mind.
Well... there go the paddles for this upriver trip.
I guess its just fitting that the second issue of this arc may as well as the same subtitle as the latter so let's get ready for "Plot Convenience the story part 2".
So just a few more things:
- Makes it really sense that Surge is capable of imagining Starline's complex word choices?
- How convenient that Surge not only imminently did go to the right City were Sonic and Tails currently are but also that she did do so before Tails actually could run any test of Kit given his clearly messed up body after that whole "pull a cable on the backpack switch of the fox" deal from issue 50.
- How oddly convenient that from all possible Heroes the one to be around to arrive before Sonic is the only ones whose whole equipment is energy blast-based Aka the stuff that Surge can use. Better yet its Wisp based which is what the Dynamo charge was designed to be used on. Especially given how Whisper is usually portrayed as a loner that stays away from big masses of people to prevent Mimic from taking advantage of any of them against her.
- Pretty darn convenient that the news report is wage enough for Kit to not know its Surge but clear enough to make him believe they need help.
- Isn't it interesting how the Starline vision appeared exactly so that it would save Whisper but not in such a way that Whisper or Sonic could use it for a counterattack
I don't count the Starline visions as they seem to be linked to the Dynamo cage interacting strangely with her.
All in all, does it ones again feel like Evan is Rushing the story to get to certain beats faster.
A few more not convenience-based things:
- Does is really make sense that Surge imagination would even be able to replicate Starlines fancy way of speaking?
- I'm a bit unsure on Surge letting Eggman life on the 1 hand did she want to kill all the Heroes and villains on the other could it be that she let him life so that she can steal more of his stuff should her current plan fail which however would require for Surge to even being able to imagine losing again and I'm not sure if that is really in character for her.
- Why does Kit even just believe Sonic like that. Like he knows by now that he and Surge may as well be immortal thanks to nano machines. So, he should absolutely know that what Sonic described couldn't possible have killed her. Like he is supposed to be the smart one of them.
And why is he even so attached to Sonic now all of Starline's conditioning that we saw was directed as Surge in particular not any of Surges character traits that would make Sonic appear similar.
- All they did with Motobud was pull a single wire so why is it shown to be such a hassle to get him fixed.
A lot of the same things I thought. Especially the starline visions. If don't give the right explanations it'll make no sense... To add on is whisper having multiple broken ribs and possibly a bruised or broken spine and hips and yet she kept getting up like she isn't the equivalent of a normal swat officer vs surge or those cops fleeing from Chaos in adventure. She should've been wrecked AND decked! Nonsense I tell you. The body slam cracking pavement should've been it. Talk about plot convenience? Whisper had the plot armor and it continues in 54.

I can deal with Whisper being able to take the hits mostly because the story at the very least attempts to show that she already can barely stand anymore. Realistically should Surges hits properly have knocked her out already but I can deal with a big of plot armor so long as it doesn't get stupid and as Whisper was rendered by the time the next issue starts pretty much incapable of fighting any further is that enough to not be too stupid for me.
@@rynobehnke8289 I personally didn't feel that communicated strongly enough with the art and she didnt fight anymore because why bother when tails and sonic are there? And she just sits in a corner at tails place instead of laying down in a bed or on the floor with an ice pack or something. To me it is just her mind bruised. Haha.

I think we shouldn't forget that there are properly a few limits to which extent that are actually allowed to show battle wounds on characters.
So, I think they didn't show Whisper in a Hospitale because they can't really show much of any real injuries.
The most we had so far were a few scuffs on Silver during Metal Virus and that was supposed to be enough damage to justify him collapsing for a short while.
@@rynobehnke8289 I definitely can't forget that. I meant more like whisper hunched over with a stick or pipe to stand or have her arm over tails' shoulder with shake lines around her body to show her legs could buckle at any moment with her gritting her teeth from the pain. She should be in more visible pain than sonic is after what was probably just 5-10 min since she had such a beating.
Especially since by then her relaxing would cause her adrenaline to wear off and have her feel the full effect of her injuries. Have surge's savagery felt like it mattered on someone who is effectively normal. Man, you notice how sonic not really bothered at all at whisper getting wrecked? Where's the consequences? Where's the emotion? It's not just the wisp that should matter. Speaking of the wisps, shouldn't surge be draining them to death and not just holding them against their will similar in colors when Eggman was doing that? Would definitely add tension to things. Maybe make the wisps inoperable for a while and make whisper realize she relies on them too much..? Is that too much to ask?
But noooo... Gotta have the new tangle whisper team up as soon as possible. Just give her a senzu bean and her friends some electrolytes and she right fixed up. Hahaha. You can see how this book bothers me.
I got a feeling that Surge might go after Shadow next and toy with His emotions (mostly because Shadow is an emotionally damaged character)
If anything shadow would damage hers. He's been damaged but is not fragile. Chaos control with kick to the back of head. Especially this callous version of shadow in idw. Surge's school yard bully level of intelligence wouldn't phase him.
I'm curious about what happens to Kit when he arrive on which he chooses Sonic or Surge. I still think Kit will join Sonic being able to make his own choice. Looking back on I.S.#3 (Starline's hacked records) Kit have less hypnotic sections with 33 unlike Surge over 200 which maybe the reason she didn't eliminate Eggman and go after Sonic still trapped by Starline's past hypnotic commands (with or without the effects of Dynamo Cage).
Surge is really going crazy while using that device, she thinks she using it right, but she is using it wrong, the starline illusion is still stuck in her mind like acting like a bully and she may end up like starline like few issues ago
It is kinda scary that Surgre would have kill Eggman right there on the spot so he's lucky Surege cares less about him , grown man must have wet himself

I might create a remake of the s factor with surge as a Scorge replacement, as the cd spindash would fit her.

Can somebody please explain this to me I commented on Silver Sonic video awesome guy by the way about this those pink wisp have the ability to give you super strength or is it that surge is just stronger then whisper because I just got that pink wisps makes you a little bit faster and sharper literally and figuratively and can somebody comment if I make it any sense because I feel like that's a little bit of a error
the pink wisp's power when absorbed willingly is to make you into/surround you with a saw like being capable of sticking to walls
but because the absorption is not willingly and via the dynamo cage it just boosts surge's physical capabilites

Not gonna lie. I'm truly tired of Whisper crying in literally every single arc since she was introduced. We get it, she's emotional. I mean crying is okay, but dang... EVERY arc?
Lol. She's boarder being a sympathy sue or already is one at this point. This issue had a chance to make whisper look cool even if she lost, but to me this issue wasn't it. Maybe next time.
I don't think you mention it,but the storyline being call “overpowered“ link to various ideas.

Evan Stanley took me away with this issue. It was amazing, well placed, and for just a single issue, it felt like a lot happened. Thomas's art is amazing, especially with Starline's appearances.
When the writers are allowed to mess with non video game characters, it clashes well with the steady video game personas.
Even Stanley's improved a lot since Chaos Races & Badnik Bases.
This is going to end in disaster. Surge is liable to blow up and kit split in two. Poor Belle, they really got to stop tormenting her.
First she's gotta realize that reactivating Metal Sonic was a brain-dead stupid move on her part.

Yeah, no, I'm with Kit on this one. There's really no reason for Belle to keep from joining Sonic when he's both willing AND able to help! Besides, until she openly concedes that fixing Metal Sonic was the ABSOLUTE WRONG thing to do, I don't think Belle even has a right to say who does and doesn't matter; because clearly Metal Sonic mattered more to her than Sonic and Tails! I hate to be hard on her; but that was a REALLY DumbBelle move on her part!
If belle isn't allowed to grow she'll keep making the same mistakes.
@@Snaaaaap Don't i know it? I don't expect her to be perfect, but she's clearly taking after Sonic by deciding to re-enable Metal Sonic! And that "You already matter!" line she got STRAIGHT from Sonic, and is using it in the WRONG CONTEXT! Sonic didn't exactly use it in the right context himself! When she said she was foolish to think that she could have made a difference, she MEANT in bring Mr. Tinker back out of Eggman. Sonic said she HAS made a difference, but he was talking about her helping them and others. As for Belle, she really had no reason to try to stop Kit from leaving when he wanted to help Sonic. He's both willing and able; why keep him their? I mean, he's gonna encounter Surge again; but Belle had no way of knowing that, so she has no excuse for trying to stop him from helping Sonic. She just comes off as big a whiny-baby as Sonic is when dealing with people with moral issues!

@@justynhill4814 Yeah, but did Belle know that? No, she didn't, not until AFTER he went mentally destabilized and tried to kill her. She was trying to stop him BEFORE that, so she was initially doing it for no good reason.

@@maxgundamvsgundam743 he's op with time stop and teleportation. Haxx will beat out whatever power up surge got from a logical standpoint. The fight ends quickly, making the story anti-climatic. If otherwise happens then the story would just be forced with fake tension knowing what shadow can really do but he isn't doing it just because the plot says so. So that's why I say using him breaks the story.

I'll keep this short. I liked some of the kit stuff and seeing surge in action but:
Whisper lasting as long as she did against surge was nonsense because she is way weaker, slower, and most of all dumb with her approach to fight surge, as she relies solely on her wispon and nothing else. Some secondary weapons like a regular pistol, flash grenades, smoke bombs, frag grenades. Jeeze, she didn't even have a combat knife like mimic. What kind of mercenary is she?
She sees her wisp get stolen and continues to fight with them only making surge stronger. Also, how does whisper not put together her weakness when surge literally shouts it out loud for her to hear? The editor should've had that changed to thought bubbles so she wouldn't look dumb for not listening to that. If the comic didn't force a big ear wolf not to hear anything or had functioning eyes whisper would've figured out what the device was doing and aimed for that with the shard instead of surge's face to be smart or at least have a functioning brain. The fight is really dumb even for comic standards and basically ruined the issue for me with all the stupidity for whisper. Does the comic really like her to treat her like this? Idw sonic can't make good fights. Adam's art is wasted on a bum script. What is it a first draft? Feels like one. I wish editors actually did their jobs these days.
The Starline hallcination is nonsense unless there is a actual good reason for it other than the dynamo and she's running on "overdrive".
