It's ironic that it's a hallucination after the person's death that makes Starline feel like a threat, he died without being recognized by anyone.
And the development where surge tortures Sonic himself with Sonic's power-up method reminds me of Wario in Mario Land 2
I don’t know whether to feel empathetic towards whisper or surge
For whisper: losing her wisps was very heartbreaking for her, since they were there with her during her time with her team, the neo metal sonic takeover,the metal virus saga, and even before she met tangle
For surge: she might be doing horrible things, but it was the amount of abuse she suffered with kit from starline, she even doesn’t know if she even volunteered for starline or got kidnapped by him, starline had no files of surge and kit’s pasts

Whisper for me. Surge had the chance to turn her life around when she found out about Starline's plans, but she didn't. And while somehow understandable it's still not okey. Plans while she is a tragic figure, her entire backstory is still unknown, so it remains to be seen if she is tragic in "Oh, if only" kind of way, or in a "Yeah, you brought this to yourself, girl" kind of way.
@@valentinkambushev4968 issue is, surge literally can’t turn her life around. In fact, the only reason she’s continuing her plan is because of the core programming of needing to destroy sonic. she HAS to do it regardless of any other goal.

Like you said, for now. As soon as Kit sees Surge, he's going back to her side; what's worse, he may think Sonic was just trying to trick him.
Maybe he'll become so conflicted and confused, he'd end up doing nothing.

@@Bentus0000 I believe It's because he (or his programming probably...) sees Sonic as a substitute or replacement for Surge. Especially with the similarities the two share. And I agree, Considering on how seemingly dead set Kit is on protecting Sonic, I kinda doubt that he's gonna go back to Surge THAT quickly...
He doesn't. Kitsunami just wants to feel like he's needed/wanted by someone. Sonic is just a substitute for Surge.

Seems like Kit has latched onto Sonic. Which makes sense all things considering... It would also make sense for Kit to be fiercely protective too, after he “apparently lost” Surge. But I can’t help but slightly fear what will happen next when Kit arrives and sees Surge alive and will have to choose either her or Sonic...

I’m fairly certain when he sees surge he’s gonna think sonic lied to him. He will then lose his cool like surge is right now. That’s gonna put them at equal levels of insanity.
He is probably going to choose Surge and then unleash a watery inferno on Sonic.

I honestly expected him to be more attached to Tails after their conversation in issue 50 and how Tails saved him in issue 52.
holy shit Whisper just tries to straight up murder Surge there. that was like a drunken bar fight maneuver, she grabbed the closest and sharpest object and just went straight for the jugular....my lord this comic is getting kinda twisted...I like it

This was honestly an amazing issue, I'm glad they actually managed to give enough screen time for both Kit and Surge. And Surge's halluncnation being caused by the Gear she equipped is a really smart writing in my opinion ! But Thank you again Silver_Sonic !✨

Perhaps this starline could be the old memories that got erased being brought out by stress and the gear. His abusive will that Surge's mind has constructed because of all the brainwashing she endured.
Afterall this starline is not helping her, mostly taunting her ego.
Otherwise the other theory would be an A.I. that Starline created to keep them in check if he was no longer around but that theory would require massive foresight.

It might very well be preprogrammed into her. Starline may not have considered himself getting killed, but it's possible he anticipated Surge trying to go rogue at some point and this is his way of reigning her back in.
Given Starline’s track record for making contingency plans, it could be possible that Starline wanted to find a way to “live on”, if his plans ever backfired. Surge could still just be losing her mental, or Starline had done something to both Surge and Kit’s subconscious, that lets him carry on his legacy. Just a theory I saw someone point out in a previous video.
I think it's because she has such a Vendetta against Starline that she hallucinates that he's there when she's feeling emotional peaks. Whether it be anger, joy, and so on. Likely related to her brain releasing chemicals and whatnot and the dynamo machine noticeably taxing her body to keep it running.

4:41 I never noticed this but I like how Whisper’s mask-eye-thing changes color to suit which ever wisp she’s using. I think that’s a nice touch.

He... both is and isn't a ghost. He IS a ghost of Surge's recent past, but he ISN'T the actually ghost of Starline. The real Starline's psyche was shattered just before death. If it was really him, he'd be a jibbering lunatic instead of his usual smug snake in the grass self.
Another one that dosent reads , Starline himself says he is not real and its on Surge head
Of the two characters Kitsunami has the best chance of going hero to me. However considering he was told Surge was dead, he may think Sonic was lying to him, and that may bring him back to Surge.
Or Kit will stick with Sonic, and Surge will be a solo villain showing the diverging path two tortured individuals can take that can make an impact on their behaviors.
With Kit growing more independent and valuing himself, and Surge growing dissatisfied despite the great power she achieves. It’ll be interesting to see how their story continues in any case.
This was pretty darn good. And I'm interested to see where they take Kit's inevitable confrontation with Surge.
Boy can that kid wrap himself into a tiny ball though.
That he identifies Sonic as the one he has to "protect" raises alarm bells. Given he was designed as Starline's answer to Tails, and Tails already fulfills the role Kit would naturally seek, if Surge rejects him that might put him into inevitable conflict trying to replace Miles.
I... never thought of it like that actually. Now i'm scared for Tails.
that would be actually great idea for a plot, really hope that this is the direction in which evan will be taking Kit's character
Surge and Kit have a lot of trauma related to the starline... and even dead he can leave more problems
I think we all expected the Eggman plot armor despite the fact Surge said she was gonna eliminate him along with Sonic and Starline 😅

I expected issue #53 to be brutal, but definitely not THIS brutal. I even thought for a moment it was a little too much for a Sonic comic… and that’s why I love it
I would say it's too much when I see blood.
An intense chapter and now Whisper is gonna need therapy along with Surge and Kit when all this is done. Seeing her Wisps get stolen and used against her was heartbreaking to watch.
I had a feeling Kit was going to see Sonic like his new partner to support after the events of the last chapter. It’ll be interesting to see what happens when Kit and Surge meet up. Hard to say what will happen, but with Surge seeing Starline as an indication of her mental state there’s no telling how she will react. She might say she no longer needs him thanks to her new power up or even see him as an enemy for allying himself with Sonic. Things are definitely going to get more heartbreaking before they get better.
Or worse, what if Kit concludes that Sonic LIED to him?

I love how Starline looks when he shows up, majority of the time he has shadows covering him, especially his eyes, really adds to the creep factor
Despues de ver este comic, me surguieron algunas ideas, teorias, etc. Sobre lo que podria ocurrir en el issue 54.
Opcion 1: que Kit al ver a Surge cree que Sonic le mintio cuando le dijo que habia muerto y se enoje mucho.
Opcion 2: que Kit al estar "programado" para ser el apoyo de Surge la ayude de todas formas en la batalla contra Sonic.
Opcion 3: que Surge al ver a Kit le diga que ya no lo necesita (porque esta enloquesiendo a grandes niveles) y lo ataque haciendo que Kit se ponga del lado de Sonic y Tails...
Por alguna razón siento que va a pasar la primera pero después recapacite al ver la locura de Surge

Yo la verdad si Kit decide irse con Surge me enojaría 😂 pero por lo menos estaría “justificado” si lo hiciera (ya saben, por su programación). Por eso ruego que lo que ocurra sea la tercera opción porque, seamos sinceros, en el estado en el que Surge está no sería descabellado que incluso amenace a Kit con freírlo vivo si le vuelve a ver la cara por irse con Sonic

This issue was amazing. The battle between Surge and Whisper was incredible. ABT’s artwork is phenomenal as always.

I loved how kit is being cute towards Sonic and trying to be useful for him. It’s disheartening to see surge and how even now Starline still has control over her and making her mad.

That Whisper vs Surge fight, the art was amazing can’t wait to see more, swear Adam Bryce Thomas’s art work has that dark/anime feel to it and it’s always a welcoming feel for the comics
Not putting down issue 50, but I say with no exaggeration that 53 blows it out of the water. Holy Cow! Gotta pick this one up for myself sometime.

everyone's saying how Kits gonna react to seeing Surge is still alive BUT no one seems to point out how Surge is gonna react to seeing Kit siding with SONIC and helping him an Tails out. I think that's gonna send her a little off, especially if the Starline hallucination has anything to say about it (mainly towards Surge ofc)
Esto está apunto de ser muy Caótico con Surge y Kit, y aunque Starline no está vivo, eso fue aterrador de cómo traumo a Surge.
Whisper needs a hug. This is the 2nd time she's had to relive her trauma and she even actually tried to STAB Surge. Combat is usually just lasers, mechs, etc vs super powered animals in Sonic media but to see something rare like this actually written well into the story is both crazy and pretty solid.
Kit's brainwashing is way more severe than I thought. The kid wasn't just made to serve Surge, he was basically stripped of any free will. He constantly needs to be told what to do or he just starts apologizing out of fear. And now with Sonic it begs the question, does he want to help Sonic cause he genuinely doesn't want to lose another friend or is it his programing telling him to help Sonic cause he's the closest to Surge?
I'm glad Starline is kept dead tho. Just makes his "ghost" seem more creepy and disturbing.
In the end I'm sure we'll get 1 of 2 outcomes. A full on 2v2 match where Kit gets angry thinking Sonic lied to him about Surge and he joins her OR Kit tries to convince her to stop because Sonic showed him true friendship and it'll be 3v1. If it's the latter then it'll come down to Surge and Kit possibly killing each other in the end.
This is some S rank writing combined with S rank art. I can't wait to see more of the Surge rampage arc. The idw team just keeps setting the bar higher and surpassing themselves after almost every issue.
It had better not come to the latter; the last thing this comic needs is more children dying!

@@EddyBinxEB I was referring to them; teens are still children from an adult perspective, and Smith was still a year under the age in most countries. My point is that the diamond cutters were all in Sonic and friends' age range, save for Mimic who's SIGNIFICANTLY OLDER.
Dr. Starline has now become the personification of twisted. He brought back Eggman without a second thought, admitted it to Belle, took Surge and Kit and holds no record of them before his experiments and conditioning while inadvertently changing their personalities in the process, and now haunts Surge from beyond the grave the more power she takes. What’s next? Some insane plot twist of him somehow coming back as a Frankenplatypus? (Just me rambling at this point.)

Btw just finished reading the whole thing damn Kit is sooo broken, it’s going to be interesting to see if he actually goes back with Surge, join the heroes for sure, or if something ends up tragic happening to Kit
The fight with Whisper and Surge honestly pretty devastating and shattering. Whisper quickly losing her Wisps leaving her defenseless and in tears trying to get them back.
Now I’m afraid Emerald absorptions *will* make her Fleetway Super Sonic crazy.
I absolutely love what they’re doing with Starline, how he’s a hallucination for Surge cuz of the mech she has now. Its so cool and eerie at the same time.
Kit is probably gonna feel terrible when he realizes that Surge is alive. Betrayed, I mean.

Sonic's leg isn't broken; he can walk on it now just because Tails put a bandage on it. Being that, his leg was most likely just bruised in the crash; and knowing his durability, it's not surprising that that would be the case.

Kitsunami is like those poor kids that have gone through so many years of extreme child abuse. He doesn’t want someone to help him, he “needs” an owner, someone to force, and use him. Poor baby has gone through so much… :,(

I was so scared for whisper, im glad she's "fine", like not really but it could've been worse
If they killed her off, the comic's entire fanbase would be OUTRAGED, including me!
She is a game character (sort of) so she is safe for the most part.
i can't thank you enough for these edits, not only are they amazing, but they also allow me to experience something i can't really get in my country.

Considering how broken these two are, Surge and Kit, I actually feel like this says alot more then any words could how messed up Starline was with them that even now, Surge's own self doubt is Starline. However, something seems fishy... why are they hiding Starline's eyes? Is it meant to symbolise that he is dead? that he's not real? Or is he something else and his eyes would give it away?
Did anyone else felt a little bit uncomfortable seeing Kit latched on to Sonic like a slave?

Las fichas están echadas para drama a un nivel genial, y genuinamente veo tragedia sin importar quien salga victorioso, Surge no merece el horror que su mente es ahora pero todo el daño que está causando me hace preguntarme si ella y Kit tendrán algún final feliz o el legado the Starline sera aún más caos y muerte...no puedo esperar a ver más de esta historia!

Wow, that fight between Surge and Whisper was insane! And i wonder what's going to be happen between Surge & Kit in the next issue, are they going to be a team again? Or is there going to be a big drama between them? Well, we all have to wait and find out in next issue. And i honestly can't wait for issue #54! 😊
I can see drama between the two, but I really do hope Surge does understand,and forgive him for that, because without that,kit is gonna be walking into one raging thunderstorm,I’m just saying it right now,because I see it happening. Both of them can’t get a break.
I can’t wait to see Sonic and Tail’s reactions to what Starline did to Surge and Kit. We’ll most likely get them in issue 55, seeing as how we return to Starline base sigma.
I can't wait to see their reaction to them finding out that THEY were the tipping dominoes in it, among other things.

There was something that occurred to me yesterday long after reading this issue.
Kit knows that he and Surge have a healing factor (thanks to Starline modifying the Metal Virus to safe cellular upgrades), so why didn't he deny that she was dead and tell the heroes part (if not all) of what they (Kit and Surge) had discovered about themselves?
His brain is a mess, I doubt he can think rationally.

Whisper has been through enough already. Like give her a break for Chaos sake. She lost her friends, her team member and friend betrayed her, her friend Tangle got turned into a zombot, and now she's losing her wisps friends AGAIN! WHISPER DESERVES A BREAK ALREADY! LIKE SHE'S BEEN THROUGH TOO MUCH! GIVE WHISPER THE WOLF A BREAK! AND GIVE HER THERAPY TOO WHILE SHE'S AT IT! GIVE WHISPER THE WOLF A BREAK! And also Surge has a lot of trauma because of Dr. Starline. Seeing Dr. Starline and Surge like this reminds me of the episode of the Teen Titans. When Robin sees Slade when he's not really there because on the impact on his mind. It's the same thing for Surge and the impact on her mind and Dr. Starline. Since Dr. Starline used her and took her life away along with Kit's. That's something I needed to point out. But still GIVE WHISPER THE WOLF A BIG, FAT BREAK AND GIVE HER SOME THERAPY WHILE SHE'S AT IT! GIVE WHISPER THE WOLF A BREAK!
Mimic would need to die for that to happen.
Surge getting in that Groovy line immediately made me think back to Ash Williams with the chainsaw moment
Was It Just Me Or Did Surge Getting The Wisps Remind Anyone Else Of Mega Man' Copy Ability.
Guys, something tells me that once this story arc involving a rampaging surge finishes. I think there will be a four-part arc involving in the reconstruction of whisper's variable wispon. The fact that we see it broken means that we will have a loose end to tie in, after all. Do you remember the last lingering loose end of the metal virus saga? It was fixing omega. It took a four-part arc to be rebuilded, who's not to say we might have another four-part story arc that involves around rebuilding something, in this case the variable wispon. I can Imagine It already. Belive me folks, we will see for sure a four-part story arc involving the reconstruction of whisper's variable wispon.

Oh so many conflictions for next issue. Kit choosing between Sonic and Surge, Surge wondering if Kit is even worth keep around anymore, Surge seeing her friend back up Sonic and friends, and much more. Totally loved the art in this issue and Shows that even Whisper probably would have been enough to deal with Base Surge, never mind Sonic. Feel so sorry for the Trauma Pup. Whisper can never seem to catch a break in these comics.

This issue was +10/10, The fight bewteen Surge and Whisper, Surge slowly taking all of Whisper wips, Kit being depressed, Surge having hallucinations and of course, Tails with his game setup.
I realized how Surge was about to remove the Dynamo Cage, until the Starline hallucination said she was "better off without it" in a sarcastic sense, then saying without it she's _beaten_ _weak_ and _alone._ He seems to be attacking some insecurities she has. But she shouldn't have insecurities, as she had her memory wiped and has proven to be an independent and self sufficient individual in her current state. This makes me think Starline knew more about Surge's past and perhaps he is taking a jab at insecurities she had before her memory was wiped and this bothers her subconsciously. He would be doing this in order for her to keep the Dynamo Cage on so she wouldn't end up in previously said state, but to ultimately keep the hallucination present, as it can be inferred Starline put this in as a fail-safe in order to 'guide' her, in a sick way.
There was extra emphasis put on the word _alone._ This makes me think once Surge sees Kit siding with Sonic and Tails, her mental state may begin to become even more unstable.
EDIT: If you look at the panel where the hallucination says she's 'better off beaten, weak, alone', it seems like the first time we see true emotion portrayed in Surge's eyes; a wistful look.
If you look back on issue 50 as well, you can see Surge state the two most plausible ways she may have ended up in Starline's grasp and also added descriptions for each one, (potentially not quoting word for word)
_"If I volunteered to work with Starline, I obviously didn't have anything good going for me."_
_"If I was kidnapped, nobody has tried to find me."_
If we look at Surge's whole reason for being a villain, it is because of events indirectly caused by Sonic failing to stop villains from continously doing bad things. This is a reocurring theme in the IDW comics and the last major consequences of this was the Zombot arc. Which leads me to think that perhaps _both_ situations may have applied. Because imagine this situation,
*_Surge loses her close family and/or friends due to the Zombot episode and they are still missing after the fact, which leaves her on her own/or vice-versa where she was turned into a Zombot, and once cured she was lost. With seemingly no good future, she is either kidnapped by Starline and sees no reason to put up resistance, or Starline offers her a way to forget her pain and the tragedy she went through as a whole. Eventually, she may wanted to stop the process she was undergoing after realizing the full extent of what he was doing and what she would become, but it was too late._*
Relating to the Zombot portion of this theory, something that has stuck out to me is how in Imposter Syndrome 3, Surge states while in Central City _"Weren't the Zombots just here not so long ago?"_ But there would be no real reason for Starline to give her knowledge of this, so she must have remembered the event subconsciously, regardless if the idea above is true or not.
All of this makes me realize she still has memories of her past subconsciousl and who she was. And this also means her memories and her former personality may return over time, which could lead to her ending up being a good character, as the ultimate reason she is upset with Sonic is because he let other people potentially get hurt by not directly handling villains, which means she may care for others in a subconscious form, or at least she did.
Either way, I am going to turn this idea above into a Fan-Fiction if I have the time.

Surge is just high on power right now. Whisper is definitely putting Surge on her hit list after this. I knew Starline would come back in some way and I'm glad he is back.
Seeing Whisper and Surge facing each other is interesting. Both are suffering from severe trauma do to mad men. I writer made a good quote. “A hero and a villain have the same backstory. Their backstory is pain. The difference is how they respond to it. The villain says the world hurt me so I’m going to hurt it back (Surge). The hero says the world hurt me so I’m not going to let it happen to anyone else (Whisper).” Of course Surge and Kit are also following a programming which isn’t helping. It shows a lot in the later volumes

Yup Kits gonna get his ass kicked. That “never betray me” line that Surge said to him is about to haunt him. I still hope they don’t become good guys

Man, I can't stop saying it. It just keeps getting better & better. And I had a feeling that Sonic & Surge's battle was merely postponed, so to speak. And I hope they can save the Wisps too.
I love the choice here of Whisper being the selected adversary to Surge. The two are very clearly polar opposites of each other. They both had everything taken away from them. Yet while Whisper channels this defeat into a sort of quiet reflectiveness, Surge channels it into bold anger, and a desire for revenge. They echo each other perfectly into too seperate views on loss.
Do you simply accept defeat, and continue on, or do you risk yourself in the quest for revenge?

Starline took a page from Slade’s book and is messing with Surge from the grave.
I can see why Surge let Eggman go . She wants the last thought in his head before she flash fries him to be that she did what he never could.
She probably left him because she knows she can do away with him anytime she wants after hoe she beat down Metal Sonic (with help) and those robots around him. Plus, if she takes down Eggman first, then she would end up doing Sonic and the world she hates a favour, which she would detest even if they are dead before they can realize she did the deed.
First Whisper lost her team and family, then she lost her closest friend to the metal virus, now she lost her wisps and Wispon. How much pain and suffering does she have to go through til she gets a happy ending
Til Surge is stopped and Mimic dies.

Also like the contrast between surge and whisper, when whisper loses power she tries to gains control, when surge gains power she seems to throw control out the window
