A tank truck, gas truck, fuel truck, or tanker truck (United States usage) or tanker (United Kingdom usage), is a motor vehicle designed to carry liquids or gases on roads. The largest such vehicles are similar to railroad tank cars which are also designed to carry liquid loads. Many variants exist due to the wide variety of liquids that can be transported. Tank trucks tend to be large; they may be insulated or non-insulated; pressurized or non-pressurized; and designed for single or multiple loads (often by means of internal divisions in their tank). Some are semi-trailer trucks. They are difficult to drive and highly susceptible to rollover due to their high center of gravity, and potentially the free surface effect of liquids sloshing in a partially filled tank.
Fruehauf Trailer Corporation, previously Fruehauf Trailer Company (1918-1963) and Fruehauf Corporation (1963-1989),[1] was an American company engaged in the manufacture and sale of truck trailers, and other machinery and equipment, with headquarters located in Detroit, Michigan. It was founded in 1918 in Detroit, after August Fruehauf created the semi-trailer and launched a new industry. The Fruehauf trailer company introduced revolutionary inventions to trucking and transportation with hydraulic dump trailers, bulk tanker trailers, and automatic fifth-wheel couplings among their over one thousand patents, including the shipping container in 1956. Expanding across the country, Fruehauf had 16 plants and over 80 distributorships for parts and service. Globally, the company expanded into Europe, South America and Asia. Following a proxy battle in the late 1980s the company filed for bankruptcy protection in 1997. International divisions became independent, U.S. subsidiaries like Kelsey Hayes, Pro-Par, Budd Wheels and Hobbs were sold; Wabash National acquired the crippled company in 1997.
Sunoco LP /səˈnoʊkoʊ/ is an American master limited partnership organized in Delaware and headquartered in Dallas, Texas, that is a wholesale distributor of motor fuels. It distributes fuel to more than 7,300 Sunoco-branded gas stations, almost all of which are owned and operated by third parties. The partnership is controlled by Energy Transfer Partners.[1]
The partnership was formerly known as Sun Company Inc. (1886-1920 and 1976-1998) and Sun Oil Co. (1920-1976). It was formerly engaged in oil refinery, the chemical industry, and retail sales, but divested these businesses.
Chris singlehandedly keeps Rust-oleum in business
Hahahaha!
🤣🤣🤣
Aren't you glad you didn't have to deal with the "seam" on top of that beautiful chrome trailer. Looks great!
This looks like the easiest trailer kit I’ve ever seen but one of the coolest
My brother had a Sunoco station from 75-79. Back when you had 190, 260, and Unleaded. The 190/Economy, and 260/High Octane, were blended to create 200/Regular, 220 and 240 mid-premium fuels. When we received a gas load, I had to climb up and look in the tanker to make sure it was empty. Back then the drivers kept these trucks spotless. Cool build.
When you build up that International Transtar you should put this tanker on the back of it
Yeah!
Really great results on your tanker! I still have the built up original release I built when I was a kid. Had it hooked to a blue and yellow Peterbuilt, gave it to my son, it’s on display at his house. Pretty sure the original had a long blue stripe decal with logo and lettering attached. I like your version though! Love to relax and watch your videos. ⛽️ outstanding job!!
Thanks for stopping by!
Brings back memories. I just got a Lindberg United airlines Caravelle.
Thanks for stopping by!
Ohhhhhhhhh, these tankers are FUN to build!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for stopping by!
I've got the shell version of that as well, going to be hooked up to a Freightliner Cab Over when I get her done. Great looking build!
Thanks for stopping by!
I can't wait to get this and turn it into the 7up tanker from the road warrior Chris you do amazing work sir
Thanks for stopping by!
Wow Chris that really turn out nice! I really think like u alot, I just got a Gulf tanker of e-bay for 40 dollars... Well I glad u did one because u help me out big time when I'm stuck on somthing buddy. Bless u and keep them coming.
Right on!
Nice job! You can shave your wiskers in the mirror finish while assembling this one.
Nice build Chris. I need sunglasses to watch this video since the tanker is so shiny!
You and me both!
I like the way this guy builds models. He doesn't worry about being perfect and super detailing everything with perfect paint jobs. He builts for the fun of the hobby. .... I need to get back to building like this. Building kits should be fun not stressful
Couldn't agree more!
I just finished mine, and it seemed together a lot easier than a dry van trailer I did.
At first I thought this to be a "fuelish" build. But as I watched I realized what a gas this kit is. For a complex LOOKING kit, you've demonstrated the relative ease that experience brings to a build. TANKS.
kinda punny - but genuine sentiment
LOL, thanks as always!
Like what they've done in refreshing this kit. Those rubber bands would definitely have helped when I built mine in 2005 because the tank halves were a bit warped, and then the holes in the wheels weren't deep enough to hold the metal axles. But this one is looking sharp!
Well Chris....THANK YOU for wearing your green shirt and pants for the review. The reflection was your friend!!!. I am back into modeling because of your inspiring videos. THANK YOU for taking the time to share the joy of modelling!...
Thanks for stopping by!
I built this as a kid and your right, it is big. You did a great job on it and the model looks beautiful. Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks for stopping by!
Built an unplated version long ago - all went together well. Was leary of all the chrom in the plated version.... Chris you always make it all seem soooo easy!
Thanks!
Gotta wear shades to look at all that chrome in the sun. They did a very nice job with the chrome, very smooth. I use to see milk tankers that were chrome IRL.
Thanks man!
When I watched your mail call I was eagerly waiting for this build. Beautiful trailer, great work. I hope to get one this year.
Thanks for stopping by!
Great build, love the 1970s look of these tanker trailers😊😊❤❤👍👍
Thanks for stopping by!
More chrome on that tanker than a 1950 Buick!!! Very nice build!!!
Thanks man!
I be began assembly on mine a few months ago, have it set aside. What I did to the tanker was used Plastiweld then thick CA along the internal seam. Then I took a 50/50 mix of epoxy and denatured alcohol, spread it along the seam and covered that with a thin strip of cloth medical tape allowing the epoxy to soak in stopping a 1" from the ends.. Then when dry re soaked again with 50/50 epoxy. A trick from building or converting model boats (two piece hulls) to RC.
It seems like overkill but I like that the tank is nearly indestructible. Plus I'm thinking of installing a internal bottle filled with my choice of,,,, "Jet Fuel". 😀 .Ya know, nothing super extravagant, just enough for a few shots to add to a cool frosty beverage.
I just ordered 2 of these trailer kits one is for a peterbilt COE I built and one for a international transtar I just ordered. I think these trailer will make both models look outstanding
Looks spectacular, Sir ! I just finished ( well, COVID time - a few months a go ) the Shell Tanker which is identical but for no chrome. Dropped it behind a vintage International Cabover which has just been re-issued. Both were fabulous builds and now I want a chrome one to haul behind my new Ford Semi re-issue from AMT !
Thanks!
NICE 👌 TRAILER I SEEN IT AT THE MODEL SHOP' GOT THE OLD TRAILER" THANKS' scoop that up.10-4!"
Thanks for stopping by!
I seeeee you lol . Great build once more. You keep making them I'll keep watching.
Thanks Bob!
Thanks for this vid just in the process of building it now
Awesome looking tanker trailer, job well done.
Incredible quality build! Your presentation on the monster of chrome is spot on!!! Really nice👍
Thanks for stopping by!
Your willingness to share insights with less experienced builders is commendable.
A+ on the trailer build
Thanks for stopping by!
Lots of peeps must be happy this is out. It's pretty nice. Not something I'd personally do, but pretty sure it's awesome in person. And yeah, keep your pants and shirt on when you work with a camera. There's a member of the Canadian parliament that has been caught naked while video working with the rest of the members not only once, but twice now! lol
I've seen that guy, more than I cared to.
I wish they'd make one of these tankers with an elliptical tank instead of this round tank! Cool looking trailer,I've built the Shell tanker.
Revell did one year's ago it would be grest if they rereleased theirs.
Thanks for stopping by!
you should totally try to make a custom model car!
If you look around the web, you can find scale accurate reflective stripes for all the big rig models
I have the Texaco version of this taker and I had make supports out of syrofom and place them middle ways to give the center of the tank the correct shape
A five compartment round body tanker is pretty rare. I really wish they would retool and do a more common tanker...
As Mad Max would say ....I'll drive that tanka! You have built a few cool trailer kits ! This one looks very impressive ☺️
Thanks!
Tanks for the video, looks like a great kit to build.
No problem 👍
Nice update. I'll be watching
Beautiful trailer
Excellent build of a nicely updated older kit. I find your tips useful. Thanks
Thanks for stopping by!
Just need your apportioned plates and your 1203 chemical placard, and get her on the road. Love to see this fifth wheeled to a great truck in your collection. Tankers are cool but you are right, they are very dirty. Yours almost looks too clean. Love your builds. Keep up the great work. I wonder what year vintage this tanker is?
Thanks for stopping by!
These kits were first issued in '70s - so that's the era we're "stuck" in - whether "golden age" or not....
Chris what can I say, SWEET.😁😁🚛👍
Thanks for stopping by!
Nice build I just thought of the duel tanker only a little cleaner.
Yeah!
That is an impressive amount of chrome , great build Chris
Thanks Ian!
Makes me want to clear off a shelf to make room for one. Thanks.
Thanks for stopping by!
Chris that my friend, was an excellent build and review of a tanker trailer! I have an AMT Texaco tanker kit in my collection and I'll have to pick this one up as well!
Thanks for stopping by!
Freaking hilarious Chris. 🤣 😆
Thanks for this one bud I am interested in getting one of these
I enjoy watching you work. Awesome build looks amazing. Have a great and safe weekend.
Thanks for stopping by!
I remember those tankers as a kid. Was so into semi trucks as a kid and those tanker semitrailer trucks were AWESOME !!!!!
For anyone who finds "box stock" beneath you - how's about tackling a "cow & calf" twin tanker combo? I'd enjoy if you could add a "Viewers Gallery" for your followers to show off their builds Chris!
That's what the FB page is for. Post away.
Don't pet the sweaty things.............. OK, we can put that in the list of "Chris isms" Great build, was concerned about how they would conceal the seams. Great video.
Thanks for stopping by!
Really enjoy your videos, you have a lot of good techniques for making these builds look realistic. I have learned to paint all of my chrome trees with Future floor polish before touching any of the parts, it prevents finger prints. Beautiful build!
Thanks, enjoy!
I have the same kit, except it is the Texaco version. I picked it up at my local Ollie's outlet store. It currently is hooked up to a Mack R685ST tractor truck.
Thanks for stopping by!
Came into the office to get a lot of things done. Thought to myself, lets put on some UA-cam Music. See this upload. 40 Minutes later, now I am ready to work!! Excellent build.
Thanks for stopping by!
My boy bought the same trailer, but mine is a vintage one. It has only one style of decals and include the blue stripe that goes down the side.
That trailer would work out good for the war rig from Mad Max.
Yup!
Beautiful gas Tank Trailer very beautifully done! I have been wanting to build a Milk Tank Trailer for year,s!!! I'm going to take the gamble and buy the kit and try making it as closes to a milk Tank Trailer than a gasoline hauler! P.S. has anyone made a milk Tank Trailer out of one of these kit,s let me know I'm curious. They almost look the same but there not! some milk Tank Trailer,s have 2 ladder,s on each side.
Chris+ I am working on this same tanker trailer mine is the shell tanker trailer looks great not big on the chrome tho
Thanks for stopping by!
sweeet , I want that
RJ
ps Thanx 4 wearin' shirt & pants
Welcome!
That is a beautiful trailer! Love the colors! Thanks for all that you do!!
Thanks for stopping by!
WOW really awesome finish looks cool with the yellow decals have to get me one
Thanks!
Great job as always Chris.
Thanks man!
Man, I like this. What an inspirational build.
I appreciate that!
Here’s something funny or interesting, I usually like how the chrome looks and how bright and shiny it is. But on this trailer, it’s way too bright and shiny. So I’ll either dull it up or paint it a different color all together. I will be pairing it up with that International, for my version of the 1984 Terminator semi truck.
This trailer an an AMT Mack tractor for a sweet Mad Max setup!
Thanks for stopping by!
You for got the Flammable placards on all four sides.
They are on there, just small decals.
When you look to find fault with others it tells more about you than them.
Nice trailer I did the Texaco trailer
Thanks!
Beautiful
Thanks for joining the fun!
Those frame pieces that come up the side are actually called outriggers believe it our not.
Thanks!
Oh man, that looks so awesome! You are really tempting me to start building truck and trailer models!
Go for it!
Very nice build and review Chris. I picked up a couple of the AMT tankers at Ollies last year with the Texaco logo on them. Have a great weekend Chris.
Thanks for stopping by!
Looks great
Thanks for stopping by!
Based on this video, I'm subscribing! Awesome presentation. Thank you!
Great build Chris. The kit trees look really good for there age

Thanks for stopping by!
Wow, what an amazing looking tanker ! Great build and video ! GOD Bless 😇👍🏼
Thanks, you too!
Very nice I just ordered mine🤘
Vary helpful info
Man this was a killer kit! And it loox so real!!
Thanks for stopping by!
I like it 👍
Sweet...got to decide which truck I need to pull it thanks for a great video can't wait for the next
Thanks for stopping by!
Wow, Chris! Too awed to speak.
So, I will have to type. I had wanted several of this kit.
In my teens through my late twen- ties, I would see a similar tractor-trail- er rig. The cab was a Mack DM-600 (if I recall) in a fairly dark blue. (I think AMT makes a kit of this vehicle.)
The tank, however, was strikingly elliptical in cross section, in propor- tion roughly 1.5 wide and 1 high. They were a metallic colour, though not glistening chrome; the finish was gen- erally dull and uneven, though they were free of heavy soil or wear.
Would you know if such a kit exists? And if so, where one might find a few?
Alternately, would it be possible with polystyrene sheet stock to scratch-build a tank to modify an AMT tank kit to such specifications?
Awesome job as usual Chris
Thanks for stopping by!
That’s prob the best looking model i have seen you do !hope the cab over truck is next i also think round 2 HAS THE BEST KIT DECALS ..
Thanks for stopping by!
You should build your International to go with this trailer.
As always
Another awesome build Chris.
Thanks again!
Great build as always...so much I have learned from your videos...may I ask what type of cement you used that was in the plastic bottle
Red bottle? Super glue from the dollar store.
I like this trailer. Have an idea for a gulf trailer 🤔. Maybe in their racing colors.
Thanks for stopping by!
Fantastic work my friend. Always entertaining watching you build 👍
Thanks for the visit!
Looks awesome!!! Be picking one up soon myself along with the car carrier!!
Thanks for stopping by!
@@hpiguy you bet! Like watching your vids!!
Great 1 Chris please 👏 keep them coming lol 😆 enjoy your videos 📹
Thanks for stopping by!
When are you going to tackle that new reissued AMT International Cabover?
It will get built, there is no specific date.
@@hpiguy Great you can hook it up to that Sunoco tanker. Maybe find a paint scheme for the tracker that goes with the trailer.
the trailer looks great
Thanks for stopping by!
When applying decals...
For good conformity and long-term adhesion, make any difference whether you use tap water, filtered water, or pure water?
I use tap water, no idea if any other type of water makes a difference. My personal guess is that it won't make any difference.
Dayton spoke looks late 60s early 70s
I remember seeing those as a kid in the 80s.
Do they give you extra decals for whatever tractor you hook it up to? It would be nice on any trailer kit if they did. Love your work. Looks great
All parts and decals are shown during the beginning of the video. :)
I have to get this trailer and build it. OOH-RAH.
Thanks for stopping by!
@@hpiguy Really love your videos, they give me a lot of great ideas.
