      I love this, your tutorials are so easy to follow too. Even though you use US terms I just convert it in my head now I've come a long way from learning from you granny square tutorial and I'm currently making this blanket for my friends first grandchild but I'm using emu classic lemonade (lemon) & white and the stitch pattern doesn't seem to show as well as yours, do I need to change my white to a cream or something or do I need a bit of a darker lemon even though I love the colour I'm using? Any advice please robin?

      Thank You so much for this tutorial-❤ I am totally obsessed with it, I have made a beautiful baby blanket with baby sport yarn 🧶 worked up so drapey and soft. I have also used a worsted weight scarf in this stitch and it is very pretty too! I think 🤔 that it would look great with any type of yarn that one can choose! Thank You again 😊
      BTW I called it a diagonal spike stitch, lol 😂

      I'm curious about the elongated strand. Would babies' fingers catch in those? We're frequently cautioned to avoid patterns with holes for fear of those tiny little fingers. What's your thought about those double crochet stitches in the row below?

    • @lovealwaysmom
      @lovealwaysmom 9 місяців тому +1

      I would use this stitch for the exact reason you mentioned. My adult daughter fidgety with her fingers. Anything I make can't have holes.

    Love your tutorials but u dont say crochet hook size on any of them is it a 5 mm or 5.50 or 6mm or 6.5 i cant start till i know or is it use your own judgment if so what do other people use thats watching it.

    • @HookedbyRobin
      @HookedbyRobin  8 місяців тому

      It all depends on what yarn you choose to use! Your preferred yarn will have a hook size recommendation on the ball band :)
      I only talk about hook sizes if I am using something different than what the yarn recommends.

  • @marilynharrison346
    @marilynharrison346 9 місяців тому

    You don’t say how much yarn is needed

    • @HookedbyRobin
      @HookedbyRobin  9 місяців тому

      Hi Marilyn, This is a very tricky question to answer as there are so many variables! How much yarn you need will depend on which yarn you choose, the thickness of that yarn, your tension and how large you want your finished project to be. I suggest making a small sample first so you can gauge how much yarn you'll need. If making a crochet square, you can weigh your finished square to work out how much yarn it used.😀🧶

    Brilliant!! I made a baby blanket with this spiked sedge stitch before, but in a solid color - it was pretty, but frankly, also pretty boring. It never occurred to me to alternate colors! Whoa, what a difference!! Your version is soooo much more interesting. I can see all sorts of possibilities- using a self striping yarn to alternate with a coordinating color, for example.
    Woohoo, I’m off to dig in my stash. Thanks very much, Robin!! You are always inspiring.❤🎉

    Nice pattern, however I'm curious if baby fingers would catch in the elongated double crochet stitch in the row below. We're frequently cautioned to avoid patterns with holes as babies' fingers can get caught in the holes. Robin, what's your thought about this?

    • @HookedbyRobin
      @HookedbyRobin  9 місяців тому

      Thank you, I’d make a sample and see.😃 It depends on the yarn you use, hook size, tension etc.

    I love the look of this!! I’m pretty new to crochet but your instructions seem super easy to follow. How many skeins of yarn do you think it would take to make a small blanket for a baby/pet?

    • @HookedbyRobin
      @HookedbyRobin  Місяць тому

      This is a very tricky question to answer as there are so many variables! How much yarn you need will depend on which yarn you choose, the thickness of that yarn, your tension and how large you want your finished project to be. I suggest making a small sample first so you can gauge how much yarn you'll need. If making a crochet square, you can weigh your finished square to work out how much yarn it used!😀

    now this is so much better than its sister/cousin? the sedge stitch . just as squishy but replaces that unsightly gap from the dc-I am sooo tempted to frog the pocket shawl I'm working on in sedge stitch but already 4 skeins down. maybe I'll go half& half because you just make everything so easy and fun to try. this one's no exception and just in time for holiday gifts.
