Lyrics
[Verse 1]
You need your stars; even killers have prestige
Access to a living you will not see
24 hour boredom, I'm convicted instantly
Gorgeous poverty of created needs
[Chorus]
Slash and burn
Kill to live
Kill for kicks
3rd world to the 1st
Kill to live
[Verse 2]
Worms in the garden more real than a McDonalds
Drain your blood and let the Exxon spill in
Look around here, and you see nothing is very real
Chained to economy now famine has been
[Chorus]
Slash and burn
Kill to live
Kill for kicks
3rd world to the 1st
Kill to live
[Post-Chorus]
That's all you need
That's all you need
That's all you need
That's all you need
[Verse 3]
Madonna drinks Coke and so you can too
Tastes real good not like a sweet poison should
Too much comfort to get decadent
Politics here's death and God is safer sex
Uh uh uh uh
[Chorus]
Slash and burn
Kill to live
Kill for kicks
3rd world to the 1st
Kill to live
[Chorus]
Slash and burn
Kill to live
Kill for kicks
3rd world to the 1st
Kill to live
[Post-Chorus]
That's all you need
That's all you need
That's all you need
That's all you need
My 71 year old Grandma showed me this song and I'm proud she's my Grandma.
i want your grandma
what?? what has grandma been UP to?
I showed it to your Grandma
Your Grandma is cooler than me!
That is amazing 👍🏼
It’s like he was born with a voice that instantly cuts the mix. Superb musician and literally hasn’t aged.
James was a machine in 90s i have seen them in 97 when they came to Italy He sang one song after the other , very angry and cold in some ways , it was after Richey disappeared. So the band was already in another phase. But i remember He had a powerful voice
This band deserves golden medals
@madisoncathcart5265 Holy Bible though
As Marxists, they would not want gold medals. I certainly would not anyway considering the dangerous working conditions of gold miners, shitty pay and violent managers.
Can't understand why this was missed off their Greatest Hits album (Forever Delayed). It's one of their best.
An out and out rock song, practically non-existent nowadays. A band with passion, balls, looks, charisma and ability to write quality tunes
So true . No one writes like this The Manics before and after Richies dissappearance the 3 continued thier styltsh pioeeremg way of u of language and hope they will be around aslong me.
Hearts!XXXX❤❤❤❤😢😢🎉🎉🎉😅😅😅😅
Seriously trim and slick as James on stage looks as fit as a fiddle ....mmmmmm Oh ffs!! Cant take my eyes off f him as he does Roses In The Hospital in white jeans and white t shrt ..feel like stipping him of his guirar and pinning to my bloody bed right now and more besides ...❤❤❤❤❤😂😂🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Listening to the early stuff, you can really hear their Guns 'n' roses influence. The big riffs, cocky swagger, in your face attitude....... total G'n'R.
I know they've said that Generation Terrorist is supposed their appetite for destruction, but i just don't hear it. maybe it's cos the voices are just too different for me to hear it/
Rylee Strange
i think they were talking about the pomp and attitude rather than being mimics
Not to mention the inclusion of the word Slash in this song’s title
Except more brains and thoughtfulness in this single tune than in the whole G'n'R discography
@Big Bob c’mon, this riff could’ve been on appetite!
Sean Moore is the best drummer on planet earth
I just can't get over how bollockingly heavy and thunderous it is between 2:45 and 3: 00 mins. Stupendous mix.
Started working through this album by the Manics...hell of an opener...just read the lyrics on the sleeve notes while listening...it makes all the difference...
holy shit, those abs; dude's fucking ripped.
Alyssa Emiko haha. Yeah, its not like I browse UA-cam for dudes abs, but it's something you can't ignore about this video.
Pedro Albuquerque he might have worked out with fellow welshmen Kris Gethin and Neil Hill (of bodybuilding.com fame)
Well yeah also he's in his mid-forties.
Richey is so beautiful
Look at the abs on JDB. He wasn't kidding when he said everything must go.
Why'd he get fat anyway?
Alianger i remember nicky saying that james and sean are real into food and cooking and all that so that’s probably why
@@Alianger He got old. It happens very easily, believe me.
@@pandapopchart4950 also JDB is not as tall as Nicky, so it's pretty easy to let yourself go.
Ah, it does alright 😅
Nothing beats some baby manics(:
if this band was American they would have been bigger than guns and roses
sad because they were and are brilliant
Hahaha yeah ok
American wouldn't be able to handle the Manics. They don't exactly appreciate complex narratives in music 😅
Doesn't really get better than that does it. Manic street preachers at their finest.
In the 90s when I was a wee young lassie I would go to the record store for hours looking for CDs to buy. Generation Terrorists is one I bought while browsing. Amazing album. I’m mid 40s now but I will never forget those days. $5 would get you a used cd and I’d buy a stack of them. Now you go to places like Ameba Records or online and it’s $30 because it’s rare.
This 'First Preach' was a legend. So impressive.
James Lean Bradfield
/cough edit the typo /cough
from one typo monarch to another :-D
Was it a typo or an AMAZING PUN?!
Damn I have no way to counter that you sod :-)
😂😂😂
Dermacrosis r/whoooosh
A friend of mine introduced me to these guys and I said to him I would have JDB anyday of the week and he was "Why?". I told him to check out this vid and he came back "I would too". He was too late I had first dibs. :-)
I hope Richey is still alive somewhere x x
I'm sure youve heard the whole Goa, India rumors by now, but quite a number of people swear by it him living in Goa somewhere.. I believe it to be honest. He was a cultured man. I could see him wanting to get away from the mundane of Cardiff to go to India or some islands somewhere. Most of all though, I just don't think he committed suicide. Seemed out of character.
Absolute nonsense, he had already attempted suicide at least once before he finally disappeared, Goa as James Dean Bradfield said is ' b movie terrority' who are you to think you know more than someone who grew up with him...
@@mojopin70 Get over yourself
I think he was in so much pain, he wanted to stop that storm in his head anyway anyhow. I cry to think about it. Nobody has or hasn’t got the temperament for it-whatever a temperament is. The guy was seriously ill.
@@basedsouljah Now there's meant to be evidence that he's married and living in Australia.
"Hello world. We're Manic Street Preachers. We're so clever that it'll kill you. I'd tell you to buckle up, but our car doesn't need seatbelts. We're far too fucking intelligent to die. Now listen as we annihilate rock and then rebuild it in our godly image. Fucking hold on to something because we only have one speed: GO."
wow thats right
You spoke to my teenaged soul. ❤️
are u on madge
Jdb = lush, that body though. Love the manics soooo much xxx
I know- lush. 28 years have passed, but i’d still like a crack! Oh 28 yrs have passed for me too..if he is ever up Treorchy way .......
Proper Rock! one of the best tunes from the Richey era!
I love this band. But I was too young to appreciate them back when these amazing songs were first released. They were so beautiful back then 😍😍
James had some muscle! Lol
They still are, very handsome men to us oldies 😂
They still are 😍
JDB rocking the body builder look :)
dont think he dedicated much time to eating food back then
Kris Charlton He made up for that the last 15 years
What a bastard of a riff to play
If I looked like that, I would never ever wear a shirt
James 😍😍
I mean its easy to look ripped when you are the size of a middle schooler
Looks like a lot of work
@@nesfan8 it's easy if you put effort in. Most people no matter what size look like shit today
@@Gabriel-zk9gb I just meant the daily commitment, an hour or so, people with good jobs tend to not be able to make that kind of time for an unsociable diversion.
Phenomenal band, adore them, all songs are excellent!!!
they looked amazing.
4 gods, one religion
Truly inspirational, immortal , beauty. Bravo the boyos
i wish i was there.damn their performance are always perfect.and slash&burn is so my fave
2:48 I love the riff soooo catchy!
Facts!
From a time when James had the confidence to take off his shirt, he wouldn't do it now.. Great song great band...
I think the loss of Richey caused him to let himself go a bit.
And Sean somehow got in shape Lol
Sexiest band on the planet!!!! Hands down! 🙏
Bought that cd album for 50c on ebay back in the day Changed me
Unlikely,.
This is the song and vid that got me into MSP. THey had been around a while before I saw this and so off I went on a musical journey of listening to all their stuff. It was not a wasted one.
richey edwards was so awesome
love the fact there are no dislikes!!! After all, how could you?
First track I ever heard of theirs & was immediately hooked. Saw them a couple months after GTs release - the only time they played Toronto with Richey. 30 yrs later still a fan!
Their finest hour.... Brilliant!!!!
God save the manics!
The best song they ever did by a country mile.....
They came just at the right time, the way things are now we may never get an act like this............ well probably never.
What a bloody classic ^_^
James was well ripped, didn't realise, even I fancy(ied) him!
How ripped was James?!
Rather ripped
James Dean Bradfield looks HOT!!
Remember them performing this in 1992 like it was yesterday!! Great song.
Very talented Welsh musicians .
Wow... James really used to work out then!
2:45 oh my god
ikr hhh
i can’t breathe
girl boner😂🍆
Awesome jam. I first heard this album in 1991 or 92 when my bro Steven bought put it on trying to impress his new girlfriend Jane at the time, lol. Mind you I was trying to sleep next door at the time and all I hear is him blasting "Motorcycle Emptiness" I was like what on earth is that he's playing now, but when I heard Slash 'N' Burn I thought it was pretty cool.
Immer noch sooooo ein geiler Sound unvergessen ✌✌✌
So glad I saw them in the era never same after Ritchie went walkabout 😭
Wales greatest ever rock band ever .
カッコ良過ぎぃ~~!!リッチーーーーー!!!
this needs more views!!!!!!!!
I love the Manics. I need to meet you! Wish I'd gotten to in Folkestone when I was "a kid". I wasn't told you were playing there. Wasn't allowed out unsupervised by the "u*** sisters". Beautiful Bois, so talented, so sweet ❤
What a track
Great song and a great video :)
Proper 🤘
Slash 'N' Bernard Butler.
I Love the humor !!! imagine that combination on stage
Best version of this I've heard by a mile. Always loved the lyrics here especially the opening verse.
You need your stars, even killers have prestige
Access to a living you will not see
24 boredom, I'm convicted instantly
Gorgeous poverty of created needs
Fuckin cmon!!!!
Richey come back to us :( we love you!
so underrated yet so good
The riff on this is cool
my favorite band in the world
Saw them only a few weeks ago opening up for Bon Jovi. MSP kicked serious arse. Still going strong.
Oh yay. Had GT on loud in the car today👌
Bon Jovi? Eww...
@@andrewdevine3920 noe, both were really good.
Sound Like Amazing🍃💫🎭
MTV - 1992/93 - Good Times
Sorry but this is one of those songs where I say lyrics whatever its all about the guitar riff its an absolutely belter.
4REAL
25 years ago... how did that happen?!
Ayesha Asma now I feel old
I think I was 13 when I heard this for the first time
They played A Design For Life on a late night radio show and I wanted to get the album it was from. As a surprise, mum bought a Manics album for me, it was this one
So thankful she bought the wrong one lol, this was a massive part of my kidulthood! So many road trips were made so much easier
Some say this album influenced me...
I wonder if these guys like Cheap Trick. A lot of their early stuff kinda has a Budokan sound with the huge catchy hooks and shit
It is true that Welsh men are the best (in the biblical sense)...
Jacqs T yes
The most indie non indie band going
Is that Mark Radcliffe getting a playful walloping at 1:54?
I think its Phillip Hall their manager who died in '94(It could have been '93 can't quite remember)
Maybe! That’s not how I pictured him in my memory but then I can’t say I’ve seen a photo in 25 years.
For this Song you have you have to have it on full volume!!!
Best era
Superb
The drums sound like this on the original album
The vallys!
GOSTO DE TODAS AA FASES
God! James Dean body
That's all you need.... that's all you need....
love
Phwoar- I’ll ‘ave some of that. I wonder if JDB ever goes up Treorchy way?
You'll be disappointed if he does as he is not built like that now, though I still would. :-)
I know, but i still wouldn’t mind- like
As I said so would I. Looks like claws at 10 paces who gets him............who am I kidding I would stand a chance :-D
LOL. We can dream......me first though
Me first as I bet I am older, dear god I can't believe I played the age card :-D It is my only trump card and as the saying goes age before beauty, god I wish :-D
Very good album this song is very KISS like
I wish the UK version of Generation Terrorists had the real drums. Could have been an even better album
White 501s eye lining them was the days xx
It's funny, the best Guns n Roses album, by some considerable distance, was actually Generation Terrorists. This album shits over everything Axl Rose has ever done. #4Real
+Laine Tisdall Oh please get over yourself.
+Laine Tisdall I honestly wonder how I (or anybody for that matter) listened to G N'R. Axl's voice is fuckin horrendous.
GNR are my favourite band, 4real. No one needed your opinion.
Beth Bowen
Nor yours.
+Laine Tisdall Yeah, I wish MSP would have stuck with the Guns N' Roses-like hard rock sound of their first few albums, instead of their current post-punk sound.
I'm confused by the recordings of this album. I had a promotional tape (black n' white cover of a very GnR tattoo design,) and the recording was top notch. The drums were present and booming and the guitar clear n' loud.
Years later, I purchased the CD and was let down as the songs had different recorded versions. The drums didn't have their presence and the lower end of the mix was weak.
What's the deal? It sounds like this video's version is the one from the original cassette tape I once owned.
A few of the songs were remixed and had actual drum tracks added for a U.S. release named 'Stars and Stripes'. Makes you realise that Generation Terrorists could have been a musical H-bomb with that kind of mix.
I know I'm not sure what happened with the original recording or mixing but the version on GT lacked the ooomph you hear on this. Did they ever correct it? Didnt they replace the live drums with a drum machine as well?
MSP use a drum machine???
Where the inferior (to me) recording sounds, it is a very stiff, soulless drumming. I would not be surprised that it is a drum machine.
jonanjello
Pretty sure Sean Moore decided to use a drum machine on that first album, not sure if it was for the whole album mind. The drums do sound quite synthetic on GT. Surely someone can clarify this.
J'adore !! :D
Hanoi Rocks 👍👍
OMG he's so HOT !!!

Yes okay well done gold star
