It was called the Melbourne when I lived in Cromer. Wonder if something subliminal was at work as I moved to Melbourne for work 25 years ago. Looking forward to trying it in July (if it’s not too busy)
I absolutely love a cup of tea with a fish supper, it's the best drink for that food. Great videos, just started watching your fish and chip reviews. Just binge watched my way round your Welsh seaside towns and your worst rated videos are so addictive. Keep up the good work Tim.
Hi Tim, I thought it was only me that has to have a cup of tea with fish and chips. Don't know why but to me the chips give the tea a different taste. The last time I went in that restaurant my wife got a fish bone stuck in her throat. We have been in it since.
ALWAYS have a cup of tea with our fish and chips! Whilst we were eating here on Sunday you were doing a live in Great Yarmouth! Gutted we missed you. Love the films thank you
The aesthetics of the place went well with their pride in great fish & chips, Tim. Loved the menu... and now I've got to pop off to my local chip shop in Helmsley; you've made me hungry. 😅 Cheers for such a tasty vid! 👍
Proper strength tea there, Tim! 😀 I’ve been to this chippy and it is some of the best fish and chips I’ve had but that might have been the view as well!
I am never sure why fish and chips seem to taste so great when eaten out of newspaper, with a wooden fork, by the raging North Sea and with a gale blowing!!!! Great idea Tim to do a fish and chip review because YES, they do vary dramatically from one place to the next. The price seemed good and the restaurant looked pretty clean and grease free! I know Cromer from childhood days out and TOO RIGHT, CROMER CRAB is something to write up. Thank you for sharing the flavours of Norfolk with all.
I prefer chippie around the corner Mary Jane I think it's called , there's always a queue down the road in summer , can't wait for nicer weather to do some crabbing x
Oh Tim I wish I hadn't seen this now. We are moving to Cromer in just a few weeks so that fish and chip shop will be my local. I haven't eaten all day and now all I want is what you've just had. I absolutely can't wait to move! My life long wish is happening! 😁👍
lol im happy for you .. you will be very happy in cromer! make sure you get to see a sunrise in the summer too.. remember to subscribe as im always about here
Went there in 2012 and it was a lovely cheap pub you could take the dog in. Went back in 2015 when it has become No 1 and we had to leave again because we didn't have enough money for the family! Went around the corner to Mary Jane's, which was delicious and affordable. Well worth a try next time you are there if you haven't already!
Hi Tim all the food looks amazeing ,and filling ,yes cup of tea always with fish chips ,or dandy lion and burdock pop, milk and sugar ,always last ,to make up to taste ,less or more ,cheers Tim 🥠
Oh my God they looked gorgeous! It’s got to be a nice mug of tea with fish & chips, nothing else will do. Mushy peas looked spot on. Never thought of adding a bit of butter to mushy peas I’ll have to give that a try. Did you manage to finish them all? It was a feast!
can't imagine why its so quiet Tim - that weather is beautiful lol I have had Cromer crab in the past - it has a beautiful sweet seafood taste You may have secret Northern DNA - fish and chips is always paired with a cuppa up here Not a skimpy portion that is it? Shame the chips weren't 100% - maybe that sea salt would be better mixed in the batter? When I made dumplings my wife's verdict was "bland". So next time I put salt and a pinch of pepper in the mix - a transformation !!
Got say Tim I've been there for fish and chips absolutely brilliant well worth the price last time I was there last year you had to wait in cue for a least 35 min but the wait was well worth it but got say you must be only person who been to every single fish and chip shop in England 🤣👍👌
Mary Jane is the number one fish shop you can’t beat up and going there for years. The fish is always crispy and delightful fried and beef which is preferable to horrible oil. You can’t beat it.
Wow that fish and chips looks good, I'm not a mushy pea person though. Lovely menu, would love a Cromer crab and new potatoes yummmmy! Thankyou for the video.
It's great watching you eat fish and chips... I am actually with you all the way on each bite, and my waistline is not hurt either. 😊 No1 is owned by Michelin Starred chef Galton Blackiston, who owns Morston Hall just in case you were interested 😊
I didn’t like any chip shop in Cromer but a few miles up the road I had fish and chips in the poachers pocket pub it was absolutely lovely the best for me anywhere so far
I live in South Australia ( not a patch on UK fish chips here) and I’m also on a strict diet…lol…it’s an interesting method of torture watching this and pretending my crunchy lettuce is really bear-batter..🤣
I could almost taste and smell every morsel there, thank you! I've been to No.1 in Cromer, and I also got fish & chips from their takeaway around the corner on many occasions. I think both are very good. It's been almost four years since I emigrated to Austria and I really can't wait to get back to Cromer, hopefully in June. I'll be heading straight to No.1 with my partner, and if that's closed for any reason then I'll be going around the corner to Mary Jane's - assuming it's still there. And as we will be staying in Norwich, I also better revisit the Grosvenor Fish Bar too and find out if it's still as good as it was four years ago. The chap who ran the Grosvenor chippy told me that the secret of good batter was beef dripping and a high cooking temperature. I loved their crispy batter and I probably enjoy too much salt and vinegar on my fish & chips. Also the Anderson Shelter dining experience in the basement was a real treasure. I hope it's still there when we get back to Norfolk! I love mushy peas too ... I quite like mine a bit lumpy for the texture! I used to go to the mushy pea stall on Norwich market quite often, too. By the time I've been back in Norfolk for a week, I'll probably be too heavy to get on the plane back home, especially if I binge on those Scotch eggs that I have also been missing. Thanks for another great video.
@@yolizard9487 I finally made it back to Cromer a couple of weeks ago. We got fish and chips from No.1 (from the takeaway shop a few metres from the restaurant) and it was just as good as ever. Love Cromer, love No.1. Didn't make it to The Grosvenor in Norwich though ... maybe next time.
You need to pop down to The Golden Fish in Dagenham, won awards for its fish & chips numerous times, always great taste and fantastic mushy peas Tim :)
Hi Tim ! Wow this looks so yummy....... I'm on a diet at the moment this was torture to watch 😂. Thanks for sharing with us love to you as always Tracey 💕 xxxx
Great place used to go to Cromer a lot and recently went back and had some fish and chips at the place and they were great....problem was I live in Ireland now and fish and chips are not great here so whenever I go to UK they are on another level
Oh my God Tim! I have never seen or had any Fish and Chips like that! It could be in a painting! I can only imagine the taste. I have NEVER had mushy peas but I love peas and those look amazing. I will have to research a recipe and make them myself. When I had my own home years ago I grew peas in my garden. Had I known I would have made the mushy peas back then. I wish I were there sharing the food experience with you! Thanks for sharing this with all of us. Now I am craving Fish and Chips but we do not have any like that here any more. 30 years ago there was ONE English Fish and Chips place near my old home and theirs was out of this world but they are long gone. Yes a lot of food there - I would have to get a to go bag! No way I would waste any of that! Hope Gaby and the baby are doing fine.
So pleased I've come across your channel it's very good.i liked the York Christmas market you done and this one.the only problem is you make me feel like fish and chips now.
They looked very good but blimey that's expensive. My fave places (Olivers in Redcar and Capplemans in Pickering) are significantly less expensive and both blinking terriffic! Cromer is just a wonderful place and if I am lucky enough to visit again I would give No. 1 a try as a solid 8 out of 10 is pretty damn good.

Looks good Tim making me feel hungry
I think fishand chips is always nicer when at the seaside.Your Cromer No1 video was great Tim.
I like the way they've augmented the diner's view of the ocean by adding a crescent of wheelie bins. It's quite charming.
Personally I prefer ‘Mary Jane’s’ fish and chips over number 1. The locals also prefer it. No.01 is more of a tourist attraction.
:-)
Yes Mary Janes fantastic for takeawsy but No1 looks great as well

Interesting! haddock? thats why I like cod
Next time go upstairs, there trying for a more sea food restaurant vibe but you can still get fish and chips and the views are better.

I’ve been to this chippy and it is some of the best fish and chips I’ve had but that might have been the view as well!
Looked lovely. I prefer it when they offer a proper fish supper for one price - fish, chips, peas, bread and butter, cup of tea.
I may have said in previous fnc streams, but Sainburys frozen mushy peas done in the microwave are yummy, and really creamy , ty for sharing Tim 🎉

Hi Tim. In the 1960's this place used to called the Melbourne cafeteria and it was a part of a hotel.
The fish & chips are lovely when I've visited.
