Thank you so much for sharing this video, Tim. I truly love this fish and chips restaurant. I always love to go to Whitby, but I haven't had an opportunity to do it. Good evening to you from London!
I'm so enjoying these 'Best fish n chips' videos. Has to be my absolute favourite food to eat. I remember going to Steeles in Cleethorpes market place as a treat when I was a kid. I also remember getting a bag of cockles and walking the beach with my Nan eating them out of the paper bag Only thing,Tim...its not a good fish n chip meal for me unless I make a chip butty (I still do this at home)...and I must admit, I'm a haddock girl🤭🤭
Looks like a really comfy restaurant to eat in - with great service. I like how everything looks organised & they tell you where the fish is from. Hopefully they can work on their batter recipe! Really enjoyed the review as always, thanks Tim!
Yes please more Fish and Chip shop reviews. I'm in America so you eating them is about as close as i'm going to get to trying them. Can you still get Cod Roe anywhere ?
In my experience, there are no best fish and chip shops- only some that do it better. You cannot judge them like hotels. The differences are based on personal preference rather than fundamentals like cleanliness and extreme price differences (Heston Blumenthal and his ilk excepted). As with a full English Breakfast-some people will enjoy the greasy spoon, others the Dorchester. Unfortunately, much that made our collective memory of "Fish and Chips" is actually gone. For example Oils that were "unhealthier" but tastier, for example- batter cooked in beef dripping. And chips in 99% of shops are soft on the outside-they should be crisp with a soft filling. A good metaphor is the difference between oven fries and chips peeled and fried in a deep fat frier at home. Oven fries are far more convenient, clean, cheap...but those 70's chips your mum made were better, weren't they?
Place looked good, but portions very small.....and expensive! Here in Pontefract we still use beef dripping in our chippies, and my choice is Icelandic haddock, never been frozen, only chilled! At a fair price.....no chef's hats though hahaha!
All of Whitby and redcar saltburn all use beef dripping main fryers and small separate fryer for other dietary requirements my Aunt been working in Whitby fish shops for years
Been to Trenchers several times then moved to Cornwall. Francenes in Newquay or Rick Steins in Padstow everything cooked in dripping absolutely nothing better, you can smell it driving down the street.
Rick Steins in Padstow is horrendously over-priced and pretty poor. Trenchers has always been spot on when I've been there but the mushy peas are not great, which is why i never have them. But there's lots of good chippies in Whitby (Hadleys, Abbey Wharf, Silver St, Fish Box). The Magpie is brilliant to eat in but the takeaway is not great.
Hi there fantastic video like always just to say look really nice never been to Whitby looks a really nice place to visit sometime for a brilliant video
Hi Tim finally could watch this as Internet has been playing up thank you for sharing the video it was good to know about the fish and chip place your meal looked really nice did not like the look of the mushy peas if I am ever in whitby I will try there
I might actually make it to Whitby sometime, so this is useful. It's also making me excited because I just made a dinner reservation at our local Irish pub for tomorrow night. It's a really nice place. They literally shipped authentic antique bars from Ireland for the interior. It's beautiful and they have amazing fish and chips. I'm so lucky to have a great place for fish and chips in Charlotte, North Carolina. It's usually so abysmal in the US that I'm afraid to chance it. If you every make it to Edinburgh I hope you will give Bertie's Prop Fish & Chips a try. I assumed it would be a mediocre tourist trap but it was some of the best I've had.
I like Robertson's in Whitby they cook in vegetable oil which is great as I am pesctarian. The Moon and Sixpence also do a good fish and chips in vegetable oil.
Love these videos and run my own list - Findlays in Fraserburgh, Marshals in Tynemouth and the Wee Hurrie in Troon top my list. Trenchers was fine when we visited, Papas in Whitby probably better.

Whenever someone mentions the name Whitby, it reminds me of another seaside town, called Whitstable, near Ramsgate. When you was in Clacton on sea Tim, not far from the amusements, in the town centre, opposite McDonald’s, and next to the bank, is a great Fish & Chip shop. I’m not sure if it’s still there. The last time I was there was July 2011, with my Mum and Sister, on a day out.
Tim, the best mushy peas are served in Yarmouth market at the pie and peas stall, so you get a nice portion of them, then go around the corner and get a good portion of chips from your favourite chip stall and pour them all over, 😋😘
@@russellbradley9790 theres going to be lots of dissapointed holiday makers this summer, the council have torn the heart out of Yarmouth market place and replaced it with a shed.

I would properly go for the Whitby scampi. You are not having any luck with your mushy peas, it sounds like that service was very quick. Funny enough when the lady come to you to take your order, subtitles said garden please, when it should have been garden peas.
My dad liked to put salt and vinegar on his fish and chips.I just liked a little bit of salt.I always liked the curry sauce and a sausage with my fish and chips.

Mr chips also worth a look at in my opinion better than magpie ,will have to try this next time I'm in Whitby
thanks Steve
I would properly go for the Whitby scampi. You are not having any luck with your mushy peas, it sounds like that service was very quick. Funny enough when the lady come to you to take your order, subtitles said garden please, when it should have been garden peas.
Love seaside chips, they have got a taste of their own
oh yes!
Never understand people who cover the fish in vinegar, salt and tartare sauce from the start rather than first tasting the fish with nothing on it.
One thing ive learned never ever try to understand people and their habits,it really is a time waster...🤣🤣..we are not lemmings thank goodness 🎉🎉
My dad liked to put salt and vinegar on his fish and chips.I just liked a little bit of salt.I always liked the curry sauce and a sausage with my fish and chips.
Very. Good tim. Chippy
yum yum
@@WalkWithMeTim Yes very nice
@@WalkWithMeTim Are you doing Blackpool again
Should of went to the Quayside
lol
I always thought the Magpie was more highly rated than Trenchers! Either way, good unbiased review. There are much better in the area for me. I love Capplemans in Pickering and Olivers in Redcar.
Totally agree!
I love trenchers. They do gluten free and they’re so nice.
:-)
Yum 😋
“Can I get”, x. Please may I have ☑️
lol
I thought Australia was expensive,by you can get a good sized cod and chips for $10.
lol
Why are the chips at fish shops always undercooked.
Have people forgotten how chips used to be brown not white and pallid.
They’re not undercooked.
A 4 from me. I've caught Roach and Perch bigger than that fish for over nine quid.
I much prefer the Magpie Cafe, Splendid cod there
