Was this worth it?
Comment below 😀
Awesome, nothing fishy about that
@@milesbrown8016 was the fish + chips fried in beef dripping ?
Ya Welcome Sir 👍👍 oh try listening to a band called Sleep Token 👍👍
You looked like you were enjoying it! Fish and chips are one of those things that there's plenty around that aren't very nice, but if you find somewhere that does them good, then it can be amongst the best food in the world.
Great video!
@@chiscoughlan5221 That's my long standing bugbear. Around me they all use that shite veg oil stuff. No ta. Only when i'm half cut will i risk 'em.
Does anyone else just like fish, chips, mushy peas, salt & vinegar and none of the other sauces etc or am I the only one?
its fine sure but i always want curry with my fish, maybe thats more popular in ireland all my life when i got a fish supper it always came with a tub of curry. I was in liverpool last week and it was the same there, but about half a year ago i was in london and blackpool then and they did have curry with the fish but it was odd curry kinda tasted like it was from a packet in a supermarket, maybe its a bit more hit or miss in england.
Never wanted curry sauce on my fish n chips either. I might try it on chips as I'm curious as to why it's popular 🤔
Sometimes yup! Depends what mood I'm in! 😅
I don’t have any sauces either or salt. Just fish chips and mushy peas x
No curry sauce or gravy on a fish.
I live 10 miles away ,it’s the only place I have fish and chips ,both in restaurant and take away ,you missed out on the Gerkins and Pickle onions ,the beauty of the restaurant is that you are not rushed out of your chair,
Another fantastic video - thank you so much for this! thoroughly enjoyed your review as always.
Thanks 😀
Back in the day we used to go to Murgatroyds as a treat and then take our food to watch the airplanes land and take off at the little car park at the end of Leeds/Bradford airport runway. Great times! great chip butty they do also
I should have done that with my takeaway
@@everydayimeating3407 it's at Yeadon cemetery car park around a 5 min drive from Murgatroyds , the cemetery is right at the end of the runway (daft place to put a cemetery) it's a great spot to watch the planes land and take off though. I highly recommend it, popular amongst plane enthusiasts🙂
On reflection, the cemetery was probably there before the airport! 🙄
Hi from super warm Los Angeles 🙋♀️
Now THAT, was a plate worth the money! Gorgeous! It was especially nice to see proper chips instead of fries!
The whole meal was fantastic!
When you say fresh tartare sauce, unless it says homemade tartare sauce, the sauce they give you in a ramekin is out of a jar, exactly the same stuff as in the sachets
Not always, we have a chippy that makes their tartare sauce fresh and you can tell the difference from home made and “😊shop bought'
CORRRR .. that looks amazing! I'll have to try it sometime! I'm actually thinking of taking my Dad who had a stroke a couple of years ago. Mainly wheelchair bound now. Looks like they have reasonable disabled access and a good car park! Thanks for the video! Love how you added the curry sauce to the butty! That's something I would do haha! Now I am salivating!
I noticed right away it was a fish knife. A bit of a rarity these days. EvenTom Kerridge at Harrods at £37 for fish and chips doesn't give you that.
That Harrods fish and chips is becoming a legendary tale now. The Qatar owners do not care
And he only gives you 6 to 8 chips with his rip off prices.
In America that's a butter knife
@@mindysuarez1699 In the UK a butter knife is something different again. A butter knife has just has a very rounded tip. A fish knife has more of a point.
I'm a vegetarian of 38 years so I don't know why I like these shows but I am addicted. Keep it up mate. 🙏👍
Living in the Midlands I miss proper Yorkshire fish and chips done in beef drip. That looked great.
"Beef drip" sounds like something from the hip hop world.
Looks like I have a 4 hour return journey ahead of me just to try this monster of a fish. The fish I buy from the local chippy is more like the size of a sardine in comparison.
I had this from here last week for the 1st time ever and I can confirm it’s definitely the biggest fish I’ve ever had . Was very nice but enormous
About 13+ years ago I visited Egremont, Cumbria and had cod and chips in the small High Street. The cod was twice the depth of this one but not as wide and similar in length, same style of chips, yet only around £5 or £6. It was to die for 👍
watching with captions it priced at £262 lol , looked so good , must have a trip across and try that out , thanks as always for the balanced reviews you do such a good job
That looked delicious thanks for another great video mate hope too see some £50 challenges now the weather is picking up 🎉🎉
Thanks 👍
Yes I like those too 👍
😮😂The only thing missing was oval shaped plates to accommodate the fish so it wasn't hanging over the edges! 3 slices of bread too and 2 or 3 cups of tea. Really that was 2 meals in one. Order it and go halves with a mate. 😋
That what i would do next time lol
Lovely Venue, Fish & chips one of my most favourite of meals & this one looked absolutely amazing!! Lovely crispy batter to fish certainly the largest I've ever seen generous size portions with everything! Pleased you managed the butty , well worth what you paid.Lovely to see you as always, thank you for sharing take care 💜 XX
We love it at murgatroyds, their fish and chips are to die for.👍👍
They're some of the best I've ever had!
In New Zealand back in the 60s on Fridays for 1 Schilling or 10 cents you could get 2 fish a scoop of chips + scraps (the batter that came of the fish) the fish & chip shops in those days, that's all they sold and u helped your self to the vinegar. 😀😀😀😀
Hi from Christchurch 🎉
There's plenty of fish and chip shops in my town but it's challenging to find one that really hits the spot. That meal look absolutely delicious.
We are looking to go there in August the day before going on holiday from leeds Bradford airport and I will be getting thay big whopper. Hope to finish it as well and I will definitely go in with an appetite. BTW, did you book a table as some reviews say they had to wait a long time to be seated.
Looks amazing x
I had the giant Cornish pasty from Philps bakery Cornwall around four years ago. Judging by the video it was approximately the same length of the haddock and cost £25 at the time. This meal is definitely worth the price comparatively.
I need to try that Cornish pasty!
@@everydayimeating3407You can have them sent to you,I’d suggest Over The Top pasties, Calstock.
I wouldn’t recommend Ginster’s pasties though.
daily delivery from Billingsgate Fish Market. They open at 5pm and close when they run out of fish. As you can imagine t try here always a queue to get served. The prices obviously differ. Large or small portions, Skate is expensive by chippy standards. But a large Cod or Haddock and chips comes in at around £8, Huss comes in at around £6.50. On a Friday ? You can have free curry sauce or mushy peas thrown in.
The guy in charge of frying makes his batter the day before and is about 70+ years old. He is really old school and loves his job.
What more could you want ?
That was some portion of haddock with a crunchy batter look delicious. What intrigued me was the Premier whitby scampi at I believe £18.95p, Id like seen Premier whitby scampi dishes up as rather expensive I thought. My fish man supplies me Whitby scampi which is very nice but I haven't considered it as Premier. Like see you try that another occasion EIE to satisfy my curiosity how it's served up in what is very nice looking restaurant. Unfortunately I not local to Leeds area as id certainly head there .
Personally i dont think you can beat Mother Hubbards, I know its a chain. The large fish & chips costs £11.95 and the smaller Traditional costs £9.95
Even though the curry sauce, mushy peas were extra. i think it was good value, the big fish&chips was more than enough for me, in fact i´ll probably share them with my wife next time i go!! The fish is die for, and the chips are pretty good to!
Having said all that, as i live abroad, its unlikely i´ll ever get to visit that place in your video.
Great video anyway, keep up the good work!!
I visit occasionally living 10 or so miles away. I tried this and couldn't finish it ! But absolutely delicious
That looked sooo good ! Im not sure I would have gone with the curry sauce , maybe another pot of mushy peas , but the huge pot of tea and the bread and butter meakes it . haddock is a fantastic replacement for Cod tho. Only down side ....whilst its "salt and vinegar" everyone knows that vinegar goes first so the salt sticks to the chips rather than being washed off .
Where was this place again ?
Top Vid my friend !
Mouth watering review!
I don't know how you managed it but it looked delicious
They look lovely
Love this channel Bro ❤️ 👍👍
Thanks 😀
It looked a nice restaurant, nice and bright and clean with nice decor. The fish and chips looked amazing, I only have a couple of comments, i would have preferred a bigger plate plus the batter on the bottom looked a bit soggy
That looked yummy, the fish was huge ! Abit pricey but as you took some home then maybe not too bad. Ty for staring 🎉and glad it was a butty and not a sandwich, that just doesn't sit right 😂
That looked delicious....nice mushy peas good looking chips. That fish! Enjoyed this vlog a lot. I think the price was worth it.
It was!
Looks amazing but I would always go for cod - I prefer the much bigger flakes of fish that fall away when cod is cooked well. Haddock is OK but is generally a thinner piece and the flakes much finer. This was a huge piece though!
That's a proper fish and chips as Murgatroyds is a top notch place. Miss the in-car food reviews, though and would like to see them again.
That looked amazing, last time I had a piece of haddock that big was years ago in Whitby. A bit pricey for me though being on a forces pension of 350 quid a month.
I live 1000's of miles away😂 and went to Murgatroyds and DID NOT DISAPPOINT!! 😋🥰 Yummmm, had fish, chios and my favorite mushy peas!
Go to Drake's in York (Lower Petergate) and ask for "The Jumbo". Haddock.16 inches long. Great chips too.
After over 40 years in Australia still miss my Yorkshire fish and chips hope to be able to pop in later this year
Great video! We're starting to review Fish and Chip shops on our channel! The Roman Fishbar in Mexborough had rave reviews on a video we did last week!
I always have takeaway at about £10 now, well worth it they are the best for several miles around.
That fish WAS so amassing, hope YOU had a good time. 😊😊😊👍👍
That looks very nice, making my mouth water. Recently went to Padstow and visited Rick Stein's chip shop, the fish was'nt that big , but everything was cooked to order and it was probably the best cod and chips i have ever tasted. That said, that would happily go down a treat from how you have described it.... :)
In the 80s and early 90s, this was how most chippies in our area were. They did 3 sizes, small medium large. This size was the large and was £2.20. the small was £1.20 and the medium £1.75. And they all came with chips, scraps and your choice of peas beans gravy or curry. But now, the small from back then is what you get if you order large today, and that will cost £7.50 WITHOUT chips. They all used to cook in beef dripping back then aswell and they tasted amazing, whereas now some of the local chippy's use a mix of veg/corn oil and ghee which isn't that nice to be honest.
Well what you had was fish & chips meal for two people(it was so large) and on that basis the £26 was ok, otherwise too expensive + with the bread and butter too i would need a take away bag also or else simply order that large meal for two to eat! I could see the nice quality also. Another 9/10 place to put on my list around Leeds and walking distance to a local weatherspoons too😅
That was a HUGE fish!
It was massive!
When did curry sauce become a compliment to fish and chips? YUK!...No wally or pickled onion?🤔😁
No. Not for me either.
Unreal Combination
Excuse me coming through with me zimmer frame at nearly 60 😂... but ever since I can remember! Along with pickled onions (a Southport chippy in the early 70s) and if you're really lucky, a pickled egg! 😋
It's good to mix and match. Have you ever tried it I think it's delicious.
Curry sauce has been a feature in around Leeds and Bradford for over 50 years.
What a generous meal! It all looked delicious, although I do love a wedge of lemon with my fish as well. Also loved the vintage teapot and the fact that they gave you a proper fish knife.
It was the perfect meal!
Suppose that's the only thing they can cook😂😂😂😂😂
Yes, it was worth it!!
Excellent 😊
Thanks 😊
It was worth it I think. Perhaps 2 plates for 2 people for that fish. Great review.
Definitely too much for one regular person lol
It looked fantastic and I would say the price you paid was spot on.
The price was pretty good
I've been a subscriber for a long time and I still don't know what this guy's name is. Anybody know? I love all of his videos.
That was definitely worth the price. I reckon it could feed two people i would definitely buy it.
It could feed a small family lol
Wow what a fish that was! Envious of that fish & chip butty! All the best ….Smithy
The fish and chip butty was amazing!
that was a big meal Chris cant believe u at it all mate
Totally worth it, been here when been up north before but still a shame they have no vegan/lactose free options but have stuff for vegetarians/people with gluten intolerance!
Lovely food but many Fish + Chips cater for all people!
Why am I watching this when I'm hungry? 😀
Blimey, i was only gonna have a tin of soup for dinner, but i got so hungry watching that i had to dart straight to the chippy!
Where is this please
Fish & Chips used to be a Friday treat in the UK part of our history, can't afford it now sad.
Evening, I'm sure at least 80% of U Tube food vlogers have been to Murgatroyds. And as of yet, not a bad review 😊 But one more can't hurt, can it? Well no it can't 😊 A massive chunk of fish😊My preference is for a nice bit of cod or plaice. Or as a special treat Skate Wing 😊But your Haddock looked the bizzo. Crisp, crunchy batter gave such a beautiful soundtrack to eating. As you said proper old-fashioned chippy chips. As a southern boy, can't be doing with curry sauce, but I'll give you mushy peas. It maybe the lighting, but I thought the fish, shown doubled up looked a tadge gray😢however, top shots looked fantastic. When serving such large portions of fish, a larger plate would have been better 😊I do wish, when serving bread&butter they'd leave them uncut, better butties 😊Tea seemed a good brew. £26.20p value for money .Bit of a journey to the restaurant for a London lad😢But never say never mind 😊Allan&Family
First food blogger that I have seen at Murgatroyds at all, but I must admit that his review is spot on. I would like to add that they do have an off sales counter because they do sometimes get customers that want to dine in having to wait for a free table, but if you are willing to dine outside or in your own vehicle you can get a faster service. I live on the far side of Bradford from this location so I don’t often get to go to Murgatroyds but I do enjoy it when I do get there.
any idea how big the fish was in weight great fish and chips
Murgatroyds is one of the UKs best fish and chip shops.
Just add another portion of chips, cut the fish in half, then its a meal for 2.
So from that point of view the price aint bad.
needs a bigger plate. but £26 is a lot maybe just the smaller version would be a lot better.
Definitely worth it in today's prises
I think so
Been many times...hard to beat
I love fish & chips and the Butty is fab 👏🏼👏🏼
I live in Scotland fish and chips, brown sauce, salt. Can of IRN BRU.
Hear, hear 👏
£26 ……is a lot for a meal …….i would have probably shared it with a starter.! But it certainly looked good ! 😊❤
Do the restaurants know in advanced you are going to review them?
Good question
I live on the doorstep of this lovely fish and chip shop 💯👍
Looks nice😃Reminds me of Mobidick😂👍
Fish off with the Whitby Whaler in York I think!
My local. Shame we didn’t see you
Murgatroyds care, you can tell that by their responses to the few negative reviews. It's a rarity, a large successful business getting it right 99% of the time. Just up the road from me, they took the business away from Harry Ramsdens, a classic big business buy out failure and it's successor should learn from Murgatroyds instead of leeching off the past.
Predecessor*
You are great, I had to subscribe, what an incredible journey you have made. Just interested if you were a doctor or scholar who decided to pursue this adventure instead. You look super clever
Is the commentary supposed to sound Yorkshire Ai? Love how the guy gives a slightly lack lustre thumbs up for great, smashing and super. 😂
Love murgatroyds.
That looked greasier than usual for Murgatroyds; perhaps the dripping wasn't hot enough? Still a great meal, nevertheless. Jack and Vera Duckworth knew what they were doing when they invested in this place at the outset.
???
Only thing I would knock it on is the bread, it’s been cut into triangles and not rectangles making it impossible to make a decent butty but otherwise the food looked great 👍
is this chippy only in Leeds?
Yes
I winced at the price until I saw that fish, bloody hell that would feed me for a week!
It was a big fish!
Vinegar first then salt
I like this lad.
Hi Maria ,you can't have a cheap shop now, i'm pleased i only buy for two. The mince meat looked good quality. What are you doing buying scones, i bet they weren't as good as yours. I ordered some of the clotted cream, it came yesterday as my sister was coming to see me today, i bought 3 scones from M&S, i cheated. Well when i checked the date on the clotted cream it was up today. Anyway i phoned them up and complained and they gave me my money back. I had a thought when you were going through your shopping, why don't you set it out in order of your receipt then it would be easier to find the prices
I wouldn't of been able to finish that either, looked excellent but probs £8 over priced. Chips looked decent too, haven't had good chips from takeaways, chip shops or restaurants for decades. 😢
get this size in devon in honiton with chips and its costs 7 pounds ..
Bro this is making me hungry asf
Nice size of fish with good looking chips, but a big huge shame it's not cod.
that made me hungry
Would you be able to finish it?
I’m sure it was worth it if you can eat that much as it looked lovely. Think I would have to share 😂
Its definitely for sharing!
I am so hungry watching this
Get some fish and chips 😀
theres more than west yorkshire you know
It looks lovely from Julie
Vinegar Then Salt.😮🤷♂️🤷♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤣🤣🤣. ( if you put salt on 1st, the vinegar washes it away.😢😂😂) ps. Thanks for sharing 👍
