The interviewer asked me if I have 3 tickets with same priority which one would I work on first? 1 - monitor not working 2 - access issue 3- application issue .How would you select which one to work on?
Depends who the people are and if they need it right away. I would go to the monitor right away because it's a physical issue and the other ones are software based, they can wait. The monitor is hindering the person from working so I definitely would touch that first.
I knew this is nearly a year old, but I had a similar question in my interview for a computer tech position at a local school district. My choices were: A teacher cannot take attendance online, a student can't find his work that he saved on the computer, the school principal cannot print, and an office secretary has a virus warning popup. I then had to rank the incidents in order of highest priority and explain why. In this specific case, working on the secretary's virus pop up message is of highest priority since viruses are usually damaging and can spread throughout the network and infect other PCs. The student, staff, and guest networks are isolated from each other on different VLANs and firewalls, but still it is important to mitigate the damage as much as possible.

Did you learn a lot of these steps while on the job? Because I mean they don't really teach you this stuff when going to school. I'm talking about the stuff with office suite. Did you learn the in depth troubleshooting skills while otj?

Yep. I haven't worked strictly a help desk job. I work in IT as an IT tech at a school district. When the pandemic hit, we had to setup an impromptu help desk and we got slammed with calls almost every day all day about a myriad of issues: Kids forgot their password; they "forgot" their password; angry parents telling us we're terrible because their kid can't log in to their Google Meet when the kid is purposely not doing the work; kids broke their computers on "accident" (some had anger issues and almost ripped them apart). it was a mess.
Depends where you work and which company you work for. It pays pretty good in New York if you work help desk for a hedge fund. Really depends where you work.

Thank you so much @kevtech 😁
Dude you are so great! Thank you for this! Please continue this! KUDOS!
I went to school for this for two years and I have my AA degree but I forgot everything I learned !! I really want to relearn because I want to start this career but no one is willing to help me out . I barely can make ends meet and I have a chance to get good job ! I’m eager to learn but it really sucks no one is willing to help me or give me basic learning things to get a job
If you watch all my videos you can pretty much land a job and learn service desk.
@@KevtechITSupport I really appreciate it . Do I still need to get my certifications for Cisco n the others ? Before I can go for interviews
@@Rizzi-qd6re nope. A+ is enough to start applying for jobs. But you need to learn active directory and make your own lab at home and add those skills to the resume.
Excellent video teaching us, thank you Kevin!
Bro.... You are heaven sent.. Thank you so much
I'm 41 and have worked for the same company on multiple campaigns spanning 17 years, I recently moved to an IT Service Desk role because our contract went offshore (after I trained offshore!) But I have a tonne to learn regarding IT including hardware diagnostics, excel, pdf, SCCM, Powershell etc etc, I'm on live calls trying to learn as I go, it's a challenge. Can anyone relate? I had to choose between leaving the company or picking a contract in the same area I was in (Enterprise).
Also, thank you so much for these video's, they're helping me out a tonne.
come to discord, you missing out.
Godbless this man for his talent of teaching and understanding 🙏 ❤
Thanks
I have a question a lot of your answers, so we explain the solutions for the user on the phone correct??? I’m starting to work at a external IT company tier 1 and we have to explain to them on the phone and not physically be there only if we need too. Do you have any tips of explaining all these technical terms and stuff to the user?
You don't talk to them in technical terms. You need to be as non technical as possible. I have a video on this, let me find it. Its on this video ua-cam.com/video/-vyxDEEu4RU/v-deo.html
Thanks bro for being consistent all the time!
I try to be consistent but I'm always busy.
Did you learn a lot of these steps while on the job? Because I mean they don't really teach you this stuff when going to school. I'm talking about the stuff with office suite. Did you learn the in depth troubleshooting skills while otj?
I'm a college dropped out so yes I learned from work.
@@KevtechITSupport ahhh man that makes me feel better. I was like yo idk how to do some of that😬
@@KevtechITSupport thanks for the video and the quick reply...
You learn on the job.
@@KevtechITSupport lol and that is why I was worried as I have 2 years of college and 600 hours of IT training @ MyComputerCareer
For the printers if all of those options don’t work then the ink is dry in the printer, that’s what happened to mines, it was old and been sitting around for a long time
This is very helpful, i am looking forward to enter into IT career jobs. Thanks a lot for your vid
Really good content. Which book/books would you recommend to study these things in depth?
Comptia a+, thanks
@@KevtechITSupport thanks for your prompt response man. I'll look for that book
Hey man thank you so much for this video. It's incredibly helpful. At 17:05, what do you say? The subtitles say "System while 64" but I can't find any setting that looks like that. Appreciate it!
systemwow64 which is only found on windows 7, you won't have to do that on windows 10.
@@KevtechITSupport OK perfect. Thanks!
This is off topic but I recently found your channel and you seem like such a nice friend!

thanks bro. i have an interview on monday. wish me luck
nice, good luck man. I'm making another desktop support video on Saturday this week. Stay tune for that video.
I am currently enrolling in school for an associates in computer network technician and pc repair. After I get through the course for it, surely they will teach you all this right? Like I’ll Atleast be able to do tier 1 maybe 2 after 2 years of learning in that field right? Or is this stuff you learned on the job?
Some stuff you have to learn on your own. You won't learn everything at school.
Which software do you use the most at work to remotely access clients 'or employees' computers? Thank you
I use bomgar in my job. Depends where you work.
I use Microsoft Teams most of the time, but it can be limited on things you can access, such as Task Manager (at least on my end of things).
I have a phone interview for help desk position on Tuesday thank you!
Good luck.
love it bro maybe could do a tutorial like how to do formatting , reimage , or a process that require to go into the safe mode. Just some suggestion, thanks for the tips
Old video but people like it for some reason. Thanks for the suggestion.
Amazing video, still relevant to this day !!!
Thanks
Thank you for this video. I am trying to master the foundation... I can't wait for more videos.
sounds good.

Very good video and good training bro. Lee doing what you doing. Your inspiring us new to the game and vets.
Good tips, especially for newbies (or oldbies like myself who need a quick refresh) Thanks.
Cool.
I really hated helpdesk jobs. I am not sure if i should go back
Thank you for you video I work in the DOE and I do IT as wellyou've been a great help keep up the good work.
Thanks Victor
Hey Kev, if someone wanted to stay on the path of help desk...can someone live comfortable if they decided to be help desk management or supervisor?
Depends where you work and which company you work for. It pays pretty good in New York if you work help desk for a hedge fund. Really depends where you work.
Great Video man It was really helpful you got my thumbs up, wish me luck on Monday!
Good luck
@@KevtechITSupport Thank you Sir.
This is so helpful! You think you can post the text slides somewhere? that could be awesome
I made this a long time ago, don't have any slides for this.
Get em all new computers !!! Your approved !!!
