    I snatched myself a Help Desk Level 1 job that pays pretty great (20$ an hour with a chance of going as high as 24$ an hour after a year of working) and is a government job. That said I know almost NOTHING about computers. Literally nothing. After watching your video and REALLY analyzing it (I literally spent hours watching and re watching your video and slowing the speed down to memorize steps you took cuz I didnt even know how to properly use control panel lol) I ended up doing great on my first month on the job. Of course there were tons of times that I got lost but luckily because I was an entry level I was expected to re direct many issues to my seniors / more experience IT people but I am so glad you made this. I helped reset passwords, fix internet connection issues, a few keyboard solutions etc...Still feel like I am too much of an amateur to be working this job but most jobs are a "learn as you go" type of thing. Again thanks so much for this video. Literally the best intro to IT / Level 1 Help Desk vids out there.

      @@evelynnveleni I'm so sorry about that! Sadly I learned a long time ago that sometimes skills matter less then impressions. If you make an amazing impression in interviews then they will hire you regardless of how much you actually know. In next week i go to the job interview for exact same job. IT technical support. The company is big, it covers our whole country (small country, only 1.5 million people) with mobile, internet etc.. Big telecom company.
    Im so excited. They got so many bonuses and good stuff for workers. This job is in their HQ and when you work there you get free work schedule. Whenever you can/want and there is just 4 working days with the exact same BIG paycheck, plus the different gifts, free laptop, free phone for the job from your home, you dont have to sit in the office all the time. And a whole lot more. Amazing company.

      @@Kekmit we use service desk jira also. Its easy to use. You just have to create the ticket in jira and send it off after the issue has been inputed. All i said in the i terview was that i was familiar with remote desktoo because remote dektop is going to be something you will be using everyday. And tell them you are a very patient person, you are going to be very patient and friendly

      @@Kekmit well honestly since im new to the job, the workflow is going to be different. For me its hard to solve software issues only because i am not familiar with the job yet. Password resets are easy but i feel like the smallest things are the hardest one sometimes. Its hard to figure something out when the user does not know how to explain the issue. Other than that, its not much to it. The more you do it, the more you will remember.

    The interviewer asked me if I have 3 tickets with same priority which one would I work on first? 1 - monitor not working 2 - access issue 3- application issue .How would you select which one to work on?

    • @KevtechITSupport
      @KevtechITSupport  5 років тому +5

      Depends who the people are and if they need it right away. I would go to the monitor right away because it's a physical issue and the other ones are software based, they can wait. The monitor is hindering the person from working so I definitely would touch that first.

      I knew this is nearly a year old, but I had a similar question in my interview for a computer tech position at a local school district. My choices were: A teacher cannot take attendance online, a student can't find his work that he saved on the computer, the school principal cannot print, and an office secretary has a virus warning popup. I then had to rank the incidents in order of highest priority and explain why. In this specific case, working on the secretary's virus pop up message is of highest priority since viruses are usually damaging and can spread throughout the network and infect other PCs. The student, staff, and guest networks are isolated from each other on different VLANs and firewalls, but still it is important to mitigate the damage as much as possible.

    I'm 41 and have worked for the same company on multiple campaigns spanning 17 years, I recently moved to an IT Service Desk role because our contract went offshore (after I trained offshore!) But I have a tonne to learn regarding IT including hardware diagnostics, excel, pdf, SCCM, Powershell etc etc, I'm on live calls trying to learn as I go, it's a challenge. Can anyone relate? I had to choose between leaving the company or picking a contract in the same area I was in (Enterprise).
    Also, thank you so much for these video's, they're helping me out a tonne.

      Yep. I haven't worked strictly a help desk job. I work in IT as an IT tech at a school district. When the pandemic hit, we had to setup an impromptu help desk and we got slammed with calls almost every day all day about a myriad of issues: Kids forgot their password; they "forgot" their password; angry parents telling us we're terrible because their kid can't log in to their Google Meet when the kid is purposely not doing the work; kids broke their computers on "accident" (some had anger issues and almost ripped them apart). it was a mess.
