Hey Kev! I just wanted to reach out and thank you for your videos. ~3 years ago I got into my first IT job, largely in part due to your videos, and now I'm starting a new one at a healthcare company. I'll be starting out has T1 helpdesk but got a boost in pay and should be able to work my way up fairly quickly!
Very nicely done. See, THIS is how courses should be taught. All of them. It is practical and hands-on. Of course all the vocabulary is important, but practicality should always come first.
Kevin, you are PH.D. of IT This is really helpful I also want remote working environment Now I don't have to go to user offline to help them. Powerful tips ! Thank you
Hey Kev. Thank you for your tips. I will start this job next week after 20 years not doing it. Last year I did customer service support for an airline passengers but not related to IT. I'm a bit nervous but they will provide me with training. It should be fine.
Landed a Service Desk Technician Remote position. It will be my first IT job(6 month contract) to kick start my career. I start in July 5th, until then I will be watching all your videos!
man it's 2024 and I finally have an entry level desktop admin interview. Your video really put me on game and I'm more confident going into the interview now. I know base level stuff, but I'm transitioning into IT from sports & education. This has made me so much more comfortable
5:52 So in this case regedit is used to confirm that they are not telling you the wrong drive to remap to their computer? Also, can you remap the drive directly from regedit, or again is regedit only to find out which drive they actually have mapped? Because in this example you remapped "Janet's" drive directly from her computer, not regedit. Thanks for all the help Kevin, you've been such a blessing!
You will mess up the pc if you do it from regedit. Best to do it from mapping the drive. Yes, it's to confirm the share drive or you can type net use on cmd.
Very nice video! very helpful. You have made it easy without babbling too much. Question, do you also have a guide where you show how you set up your virtual environment at home like you are showing? I'd like to do the same. I was thinking about taking a course for IT helpdesk level 1 through Udemy but this is awesome tips , maybe I won't need them if you have more good videos like this ?
i have a windows server set up along with windows machines that are connected to the domain and it doesnt let me do anything you did in the video. didnt let me do the registry thing as well as the remote desktop in .
Hi kevTech what advice would you give newbies in todays market. It seems every hiring manager wants candidates to have entry level experience for entry level jobs and the graduate degree means nothing.

Thats cool I had issues where user doesnt know the path of her network drive. So by this regedit trick hopefully il will be able to get her network path. I usually tell the user to get the network path from her colleagues and then re map it. Kevin can you please demonstrate some tricks with outlook registries 0365 like if it freezes continuously even after quick repair mainly when user is using win7 os and having 0365. I guess it depends on the sensitivity of the work. If the machine is practically a ‘public computer’ for employees to share doing the same non-privacy sensitive work it should be fine. Blocking admin rights normally just to prevent dumb users from breaking the machine.

I know what the CPU is and what ping!. I need the job experience I have the knowledge of any IT worker has. I'm looking for remote work only thanks.

for remote drive mapping I use a bat script and copy it to their desktops.
we don't do that here because security doesn't allow it. It depends where you work and if IT allows it.

3:40 Is that allowed, though? There must be a procedure to follow- if nothing else, to check if they should have admin privileges.
Every company different. That's why it's important to ask questions.
I guess it depends on the sensitivity of the work. If the machine is practically a ‘public computer’ for employees to share doing the same non-privacy sensitive work it should be fine. Blocking admin rights normally just to prevent dumb users from breaking the machine.
